Using nano and shuffle

I already have a shuffle and was bought a nano as a gift. What's the best way to transfer all the tunes from my shuffle onto the nano?

Assuming your songs are in your iTunes library on your computer, all you have to do is plug your nano in and sync. If you do not have the songs in your itunes library then you will need a third party program to extract the files from the shuffle back to your computer so that you can put them in the itunes library and then sync to the nano. Several have been listed on here but one that pops into mind is yamipod.com. Also, in iTunes 7.0 or higher you are able to put any tracks purchased from iTunes back on the computer via itunes.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.0/en/2586x.html
Please note that although the header states "Buying from the iTunes Store with other computers" if you scroll to the bottom you will see the shaded box that tells you how to get the music from your ipod onto itunes. Again, this is only for songs on your ipod that was purchased from the iTunes store.

  • Having trouble Syncing my nano and shuffle using the same libary

I have only one libary but I have a iPod nano and a iPod shuffle. When I connect to itunes to sync my shuffle, everything goes well. Then I try to sync my nano but it does not sync. Yesterday I bought a album from the iTune store and I was able to sync the new songs into my Shuffle. I can not do that with my nano? Can someone help me understand what needs to be done? Both are carbon copys with the same songs. One my husband uses and I use the shuffle. I would appreciate any help

I get no error message. I first plug in my shuffle - everything syncs. Then I plug in the Nano, it just sits there. I go to the top and try to click on "sync ipod" but it is light gray and will not allow me to click on it.

  • Can I have both Nano and Shuffle on one computer/same user account?

I have a Nano that I use daily and also just purchased a Shuffle to take to the gym (I'm a bit paranoid about the Nano getting broken, lost or stolen). I'd like to have some of the same music on both devices. Can I do that? (I've yet to plug in my Shuffle in case one overrides the other.)

    Hi MNRobin,
Yes you can! I suggest reading Knowledge Base Document #200432. If you want, you can select which songs go on which iPod by Manually adding songs, playlists, podcasts and audiobooks.
    I hope that helps,

  • Ipod Nano and Shuffle on the same computer?

    Hi guys,
I’m having a problem. I recently connected my 2nd gen nano to my friend’s computer (who has a shuffle) and it thinks I’m her. How do I create my own “account” on i-tunes?
The problem is that now she has tried to connect her shuffle to i-tunes and it’s rejecting her!
I tried a different computer and it came up with her ipod name. How do I make it all mine and reset her settings?
    Thanks!!
    Natalie.

"How do I create my own “account” on i-tunes?"
Create a separate Windows User account for each person on the PC. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:
    Using Windows XP User Accounts
"I tried a different computer and it came up with her ipod name. How do I make it all mine and reset her settings?"
Have a look at this troubleshooting page, changing the drive letter for the iPod might solve the confusion: iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod.

  • Ipod nano and shuffle are not recognized by my computer or itunes

When I plug in the ipod, both the nano 6th generation and the shuffle, the device is not recognized by my computer or itunes.  It will be recognized by my computer for a few seconds and then disappears.  The device will show up on the right side of the screen in itunes but not on the left.  The troubleshooter tells me it is a compatability issue.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes, i have turned off the compatabilty mode, nothing works.

What displays on the iPods screen when you have it connected?  I assume you have tried another known working USB cable?
Is iTunes up do date on your PC (currently at 10.7)?
Have you tried connecting to another PC or Mac?

  • Nano and Shuffle read "synced" but aren't.

Hi, all. I'm a newbie here.
I download from two playlists to my Nano (Gen. 4, 16Gb) and to my Shuffle (Gen. 3, 4 or 6 Gb), to keep the categories of music separate. Since upgrading to version 9-point-whatever, both iPods read almost immediately as "Syncing complete. You may now disconnect," without then automatically continuing to both synch and recharge, nor to give a warning on the screen not to disconnect until both are complete (about three hours, right?).
BUT when I do disconnect and check the Menu on both of them, the newest purchases/uploads that have successfully been entered, and show up listed, in my Library are NOT THERE.
Not only that: My Shuffle has successfully downloaded only about 110 of the over 200 songs: Exactly the first 110, alphabetically.
    Remedies, anyone?
The problem should not be lack of memory, as my entire library is only 117_(? seventy-something) songs large, and just a little over 900 constitute the larger of the two playlists (for the Nano). I have no applications but songs running on either iPod.
    So: any help out there?
Any assistance or tips would be most welcome.
    Thanks.

Resolved the problem by reverting to previous software version.

  • How do I stop losing drive when using iTunes and Shuffle

You'll need to install iTunes on your laptop and restore the Phone there.

  • Help please - have a Nano and a Shuffle and neither are working! The Nano wheel appears to have stopped working - I can't get it to do anything. I've done the reset,it worked the first time but not since. And the shuffle won't sync with my library!

    Hi,
I have an iPod shuffle 4th generation and an iPod Nano 5th generation . The Nano wheel appears to have stopped working - I can't get it to play or anything. I've done the reset and it worked the first time, but now the only way I can get it to play anything is to shake it and go with the shuffle choices - I can't change volume, song, pause or turn it off.
So, I decided to start using the Shuffle which I was given as a present last year. I've plugged it into my laptop (running windows 8 and newest version of iTunes). It appears in iTunes on the left hand side, but when I click to sync (whether I tick sync all or choose artists) it says synched but has no music. It seems to not be linked to the music library - when I tick synch all songs, next to the "sync music" it says 0 songs?
Any help to fix either would be really appreciated - I'm without any music at the moment and I'm going away this weekend!
    Thanks

How can I find the location of an i-pod shuffle, nano and touch that i have synced to my account? I have had each one stolen and would be so relieved if i could track there location as I know they are still in the county I live.
Also if i cant locate them can i at least remotely delete the libraries, and lock them so they are unusable to the thiefs, and i had a sony laptop worth £2000 stolen which I had used my apple account for a year is there anyway i can track that or retrieve the contents and delete them?
Please if anybody knows reply or contact me!!!! =-)
    many thanks

You or Apple can do nothing to prevent use of the devices.
For the iPod touch if you turned on the FindMyiPod feature and wifi is on and connected yu may be ablt ot locate it and wipe it by going to iCloud, signing in and going to FindMyiPhone. However, if the iPOd is rectored that feature is deleted.

There is no way to track a missing or stolen iPod Nano or Shuffle.  You can track the iPod Touch if you had previously enabled the FindmyiPhone feature before it was lost. However, this feature also depends on the iPod to be connected to a working Wi-Fi network and not have already been restored by the thief.
Apple can do nothing to help. Sorry.

You could possibly locate the iPod touch and remotely wipe it if you had installed the Find My iPhone app on it, otherwise, and for everything else, no. There are tools that can be instaleld on PCs that will attempt to report in if stolen, but again these need to be set up in advance.

  • Sharing existing song list between Gen 2 Nano and new Shuffle

I use a desktop runing Win XP for my iTunes Library and have 1 Playlist for all songs - currently 467 song titles using 1.78 GB of memory
I have a Gen 2 Nano - all software is up tp date
I have a new car with a direct conection for an MP3 player to the sound system.
I intend to purchase a new Shuffle for the car but it will have no where near enough memory to hold the entire play list therefore I want to load the shuffle with music by "selecting" specific song titles, one at a time, from my overall playlist.
    Questions:
    1. Will I have any problem loading the Shuffle from my existing iTunes library? If the answer is that this is possibler to do then -
    2. Specifically how would I proceed to select specific song titles from my iTunes library for copying to the shuffle? I am computer challenged and would need step by step instructions.
    3. How will I designate certain songs for the Shuffle without dragging and droping them out of the overall iTunes library to a second library for the Shuffle i.e _I much prefer to keep my total iTunes Library intact and not designate certain song titles for the Nano and others for the Shuffle_.

When I connect my Nano to my computer it apparently compares the current total music list with the list in the Nano. If I have added a song(s) anywhere in the playlist it adds them to the Nano - automatically. If I have deleted a song(s) from anywhere in the play list it deletes thhem from the list in the Nano - automatically. If I have downloaded revised software from iTunes it downloads the changes - automatically. All of this is occurs automatically as soon as the Nano syncs with the computer. Questions -
    1. When I attach the Shuffle what will prevent it from trying to automatically load the entire Nano list into the shuffle as soon as it syncs?
    2. Will all of this become clear once I have registered the new Shuffle to the same name and computer that the Nano is registered to?
As it stands I expecct Santa Claus (in the form of my daughter) to present me a new Shuffle on Christmas Day so I am just trying to anticipate what I'll need to know what to do to load the Shuffle from selected songs in my computer which has never been connected to anything but the Nano.
I very much appreciate your help so I thenk you in advance.
