Using NI PCI-5640R as Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer

Hi,
The code for NI PXIe-5641R Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer demo is posted HERE for LV 2009. I want to use the same code for NI PCI-5640R instead of NI PXIe-5641R. Since I am using a 5640R, I have changed the device in the project.
Can any one guide me what else changes I have to make in this Demo code so that I can use the same code for NI PCI-5640R
instead of NI PXIe-5641R?

Hi Eug,
It sounds to me like you need to go back and re-install support for LabVIEW 2009 and 2010 through the NI-RFSA driver. You can do this through Add/Remove Programs. Select National Instruments "Change/Remove" and when the pop up window comes up select NI-RFSA and select "Modify." This will re-load the installer for NI-RFSA and through there you can add/remove support for versions of LabVIEW. Make sure that LV 2009 and 2010(if you're using it) are selected.
As for your application, if I understand you correctly your setup goes something like PXI-5600»PXIe-5641R»PXI-5610 (»PXI-5690?). If you're just trying to acquire a signal on the 5641R and amplify it digitally before replaying it on the AO port, then you could try to use the example code "ni5640R Analog Input and Output" that is found here:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\examples\instr\ni5640R\FPGA\PXIe-5641R\ni5640R Analog Input and Output\
as a base to follow, but you'll need to modify the code so that you're not providing the AO data from the host, instead you'll re-route the AI data on the FPGA through some amplification block and then feed that to the AO port. If you're including the 5600 and 5610 in this process, then that modified example will just need to include some code on the host to setup the 5600 for downconverter only mode and the 5610 for upconverter only mode. There are examples of this that you can find in their respective driver examples:
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\examples\instr\niRFSA\RFSA Downconverter with External Digitizer.vi
C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2009\examples\instr\niRFSG\RFSG External AWG (5610).vi
The addition of these last two pieces of code will make this modified example look a lot like the code that NAyer linked above without the FFT processing.

Hi Xiaolin,
NI doesn't offer Windows based Ethercat master or slave software. Only LabVIEW RT can run the Ethercat driver.
However, you could use a LabVIEW RT target as an Ethercat master and use the Ethercat Internet Card with a slave PC (note: I think this will work from the Beckhoff description of the card you are describing. The card should integrate like any other non-NI slave. However I haven't tested the setup and don't advise saying it will work until you have tried).
You can use any NI RT target with two ethernet ports as the Ethercat master. This could be a cRIO, PXI or RT Desktop.

How do i use multiple threads( very much real time), using JavaFX?

I'm creating an application, using JavaFX because one can create awesome GUI using JavaFX. I need to know how to create real time multiple threads using javafx.
JavaFX doesn't support creation of multiple threads, but i think there is another way of doing it. I need it work in real time as my application works with an hardware (wacom intous 3 tablet), and i need mutiple threads to get all the parameters from the stylus of the tablet simultaneously...
any code which will help me out or explaination on how to go about this is appreciated...

What is the best way to store data on a network hard drive using CompactRIO RTOS and Labvew Real time?

HI!
I'm starting a project in which I have a low rate stream of data to read in a real time environment. I should store these data on a network hard disk without any PC with standard OS, I just have CompactRIO RTOS. How can I send this data to the network drive? Is it possible to just “write” data like I do for a standard file in LabView?

you have to keep in mind that normally the RT OS does not map drives other than the Compact Flash that it has onboard (C:\). There are exceptions such as
-cFP-20xx which may have additional Flash Drives which can be addressed as D:\ Drive
-CVS systems with IEEE-1394 interface can write/read to Firewire external Harddrives
-PXI Controllers booted from a Floppy disk may map the floppy drive as A:\
One solution to your needings may be to write data to files locally on your onboard CompactFlash and then transfer these files to a network location using FTP, provided the network drive you are pointing to supports FTP.

Can you use event case with labview real time?

I have a real time application I am putting together and until recentally have concentrated on getting the data acquisition working as expected.
I am using a PXI-8183 in a 1031 chassis.
I am now trying to add the functionality for setting up the system in the form of a GUI remote front panel that I connect to with a host laptop. I am connecting with the host as expected and it seems to be working well in that respect.
My problem is with event cases, operating in a while loop on the target. They just dont seem to want to trigger when i click on a button I have set an event for.
I have looked through the documentation and cant see any reference to issues with event cases on rt, but I feel I am missing something fundamental. Can anyone help?

Using a Mac, Firefox does not allow me to use the vertical scroll bar real-time in Godaddy webmail. It lags and jumps. Godaddy says it is a browser issue. Does not happen in Safari with Mac OS 10.4.11 or on PC w/windows vista.

The problem is not my server (Comcast) as it does not happen on Safari when trying different websites as well as Godaddy.com or my Godaddy webmail. The problem is only when using my Mac OS X 10.4.11 (not my Windows Vista PC) in Firefox. I only began noticing this recently. I want use c++ codes on linux real time. For testing reasons I want to have a function that adds 2 values and gives the result.
I've done these steps:
1. writing a c++ file in Eclipse (see screensot 2)
2. building a shared library (.so) from my c++ project in Eclipse (with Cross GCC)
3. putting this file on myRio (path: /usr/local/lib/)
4. creating a VI that calls this library from Labview with a "Call Library Function Node" (see screenshot3)
5. Setting the properties for the "Call Library Function Node" (see screenshots 4-7)
After I run this VI i get this error message: LabVIEW: (Hex 0x627) The function name for the ... node cannot be found in the library. To correct this error, right-click the Call Library Function Node and select Configure from the shortcut menu. Then choose the correct function name. (see screenshot1)
I've tried a lot things to solve this problem but I couldn't find a solution. Would be very happy if anyone can help me. I guess that I have to edit my c++ code to export my function (symbol). But I have no idea how to make it. I also tried it with a dll file in the same folder but it didn't help.
Perhaps someone can send an example which works on myRIO.

can see it in the screenshot8 there is a function called "_Z8AddierenddPd" instead of "Addieren". I copied this name to Labview (see screenshot9) and it worked.
I'm sure that there is a way to compile the shared folder with gcc without decorations (mangling). But I don't know how. If someone has a recommendation I would be very glad!
Prepend each function declaration that you want to be available without name decoration with
extern "C" <your function declaration>
Or if you have multiple functions you want to export you can in the header file where you declare your functions simply use:

Using Vi server in real time application

I am using PXIe( 4330, 6363 and 4353) devices and I want to have executable file for the calibration program ( AI,AO verification procedure and so on). So I think is necessary to have 2 programs for each 'verification procedure', one under host (executable file) and one under target (real time application). in host program (exe file) I used VI server to call Real time application. There are some problems that I am phasing.
First I can’t select the channels which the reason is abvious because my host program is under my computer not under target, but I do not know what is the solution?
and second is, error number 7 occurred. which says : the path file is not correct , or the file is removed...
As I mentioned my goal is to have an executable file which contains Real Time application. Please specify If there are other ways to do that. I do not know wether the way I am doing is correct or is somethig impossible ?!!!!!!!

there is no specific reason why I call vi dynamically, as I said I try to generate executable file which contains real time application, but before that I need to run host vi too see if it works or not. I did what you advised and I have same error still. I think there must be something wrong with path address and vi server, but I address .rtexe file or target vi to my host and for both I have error.

We can do both.
If the pre-delivered content actually solves ur purpose by providing the exact format of data, then u should go for the existing components
If there is any change from the content provided, then u should change it and create own user defined products and components
 What is the criteria behind choosing either of them ??
Thus the criteria is purely based upon the type of data formats u have to use. Existing component always saves lot of development time

Multiple issues with PCI-5640R FPGA: DAC and Strange Execution at Host

We are working on a communications systems project using the PCI-5640R
IF-RIO transceiver and the FPGA module. At the FPGA, a sequence of bits are
being modulated through multiplication with the sine wave generator. The
next step is to take the modulated sinusoidal signal and send it through the
DAC. Throughout this project, we have been using the Analog Input and Output
example project from Getting Started with the 5640-R IF... as a template
to build this project. There are, however, several issues/questions we
have. Attached are the HOST and FPGA vis that we are working with.
1. The host only runs every other time. At the host (BPSK_TX(HOST).VI, the execution gets
halted for an infinite period of time at one of the FIFOs until 'stop' is
hit. But then at the subsequent execution, the host completes execution
of the program. In other words, the host is only receiving data from the
FPGA every second time it is run. Why is this happening? Are we missing
something at the host or FPGA VI?
2. How exactly do we send our own digitized signal through
the DAC? As seen in one of the FPGA VIs, we have tried modfiying the
output section of the FPGA VI in the Analog Input and Output project in which
the FPGA reads from the FIFO. In our case, we are modulating the signal
in a separate section, writing it to a target-scoped FIFO and then reading from
that FIFO and processing the data as in the example. This modified FPGA
vi is "BPSK_TX(FPGA).VI)
Unfotunately, we are not observing anything at an oscilloscope
connected to the transceiver. Even when we try to pass in a
"custom" signal at the HOST we have no luck observing anything
coherent. As seen in the bare_sine_wave_test (FPGA).vi, we have
attempted a relatively simple way of sending a signal through the DAC, yet
still no luck. I am guessing that this is related to issue #1.
On a related note, when
receiving the signal and running it through the ADC, what steps are
necessary? Can one assume that it is
similar to the FPGA.VI in the analog input and output example?
3. How do for loops and while loops synchronize with timed loops
and frames in the FPGA? In the FPGA we are using a for loop to
modulate the signal because the sine wave generator cannot be contained within
a timed loop on the FPGA. This will be important to us because at the
receiver we will need to know the symbol rate in order to recover the signal.
I would sincerely appreciate any feedback or help that can be provided
on this,

It may be that the FPGA Refernce has not been binded. The issue was that the VIs need to be bound to the ni5640R FPGA VI Reference.ctl control. This is an option on the popup menu when clicking on the Open FPGA VI Reference VI. In some cases, it may already be selected in the popup menu. In this case, unselect the Bind to Typedef option. For good measure, I usually selected the FPGA VI to use with the host VI, and then I reset the Bind to Typedef option. In most cases this should fix the ni5640R FPGA VI Reference.ctl control mismatches throughout the VI. In some cases, I have to Save All, close the host VI and all subVIs. Then reopen the host VI. This has always working in all cases for me.

How to install the NI-DAQmx driver on a real time target PC?

Hi, I’m painful about how I can install a PCI-6363 DAQmx on my real time desktop PC target. The PCI-6363 is directly connected to the real time PC. And I’m using LabVIEW 2011 and MAX 5.0.
The DAQmx device driver can be seen in software lIst in the host PC, but it can not be found in the install wizard. Is there something wrong with my host PC? or is that wrong to connect PCI-6363 with real time desktop PC?
I would be grateful for any advice that I could get here.

Hi Zhleo,
If you are about to use the PCI-6363 with the Real-Time Desktop you are right you need to have it installed, and then you need to deploy DAQmx driver software to the real-time target.
To do that you access your real-time desktop under Remote Systems in MAX and start the Real-Time Software Wizard. There you should see DAQmx listed.

Running joystick on real time card

I'm using PCI-7041/6040E real time daq card directly running on windows (labview and the daq card installed in single computer).How can i communicate data between host and daq card? I want to use joystick while the joystick vi can't be download in RT excecution target. In this forum says it can be done if joystick vi is running on host and the joystick data is transfered to RT target, but for my condition (using one computer), Can I do this?

the examples send data acquired with nidaq, but you want to send data from the joystick. see the attached simplified vis and read the documentation of the vis (right click on the vis->help). attached vis are not tested, so maybe you have to play around a bit.
