Using non-HP ink cartridges

I have a Photosmart C6180 that uses HP 02 cartridges - black and five colors.  My local Walgreen's has a cartridge refill program.  I have always used HP cartridges, but what would I give up if I went the non-HP route?  Is the ink status gauge about it?

I have been used replacement cartriges from Ebay on my new Photosmart B109n successfully. Removing the chips and transferring them to the Chip-extender is fiddly, and you need to be careful that the Chip-extender is properly seated and hooked into the printer carriage locating aperture -  my black cartridge was rejected first time because it must have slipped slightly when the cartridge was locked down, I can see that this must be carefully checked each time one replaces a cartridge otherwise one could damage the chip. Removing the chip with a craft knife is best done starting from the top right (with the gold pads towards you) because you are less likely to damage the printed circuit traces there. Usually the spare adhesive tape will not be required because the existing tape should remain on the chip if you are careful. I assume that eventually the printer will reject the chips after the warranty has expired - 2 years from the date of OEM cartridge manufacture (27/09/2011), according to the Printer Hardware Information page. I suppose then I shall have to buy some cheaper non-XL HP cartridges to get some more chips, unless they become available from another source. Or maybe I could try the PC date reset back a few years then re-set to current date method?

  • HP6700 officejet, Can you use non-oem ink cartridges???

Hi,  I recently got a new printer last year and I recently purchased some non HP ink cartridges.  I changed the color cartridges, the printer recognized the cartridges and went through the install process.  Everything looked good.  When I go to print, I get an error saying there is non-oem ink cartridges installed.  I click on the info button and it tells me that non-oem ink will void the warranty.  I am fine with that, I just want to be able to print.  Is there any way to get past this or can on only use HP ink in a 6700 officejet printer???
    Thanks

  • Disabling continual Non-HP ink cartridge message

Please help!I can see there have been many others with the same annoying problem, but I can not seem to stop the 'Non-HP Ink cartridge"message coming up on my computer constantly, even when I'm not printing anything! Whenever I am on my computer, the message comes up every 5 seconds. I can't get anything done!I tried unchecking the "Enable bidirectional support" box under "Ports", (as per one of the answers here) but it hasn't worked. I am wondering if I turned my computer off and on again, would that work? I have a HP Pavillion 23 computer.Surely I don't have to unplug my printer every time I'm on my computer and go through this rubbish whenever I need to scan or print something? This is beyond frustrating!Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you are getting a continual Non-HP ink message with your HP Photosmart Plus B210 on Windows 8. I am sorry for the frustration but happy to look into this for you. Are you using Genuine HP ink cartridges? Or refilled/Non-HP ink? Please see this guide, Can I Refill The Ink In My HP Ink Cartridge? As well as this guide, Ink Usage in Inkjet Printers. In the meantime, please try the solutions within this guide, HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - B210a support. Also, the HP Print and Scan Doctor, might help as well. Hope this information is helpful, and thank you for posting!

  • Using non OEM Print Cartridges.

I have just fitted non oem ink cartridges in my HP 6520 and they will only display in the ink levels on the printer front panel a question mark and through the printer software on the PC i get an exclamation mark, can this be bypassed or do i have to "guess"? "Genuine"HP Cartridges are so expensive, can anybody help?

You would need to take the issue up with the supplier of the third party cartridges.  HP has no way to tell the ink levels if they have not been properly programmed into the ink supplies or if the cartridge has been marked as previously used.

  • How do I get the "non HP Ink Cartridge" pop up to go away??? HP Photosmart 7520

After my trial ink ran out on the HP Photosmart 7520 I installed a non-hp ink cartridge.  It prints fine but EVERY SINGLE TIME I print anything I get a pop up saying I have a non-hp cartridge installed and the quality cannot be guaranteed.  It then gives me the option to shop HP online, cancel the print, or click ok to close it.  EVERY SINGLE TIME.  I print a lot of pages and this is extremely annoying.  There is no "do not show this message in the future" option.  How can I make this stop popping up????

OK, you're receiving this error because of the non HP cartridge you've installed. This message can be bypassed by selecting OK; it will not go away until you install HP ink. Until then you should be able to print.

  • C5380 - I want to print using ONLY black ink cartridge. Is this possible?

    Hi Folks,
I now understand that this model, HP C5380 and I'm guessing many others too, are programed to use an amount of colour ink even when selected to print in Black.
My question is:  Can I somehow program the printer to 'only print using the black ink cartridge' and not use the colour cartridges at all?
I have heard that this is possible with some models but need the specifics.
I am even willing to permanently disable the colour function if needed. The replacement ink catridges are so very expensive, if I'm unable to do this then I'll be looking for another printer and it won't be HP.  Thi is unfortunate because I think they make a good quality product - however they need to be on notice that their customers 'good will' and return business will not be forthcoming when they (and other compaines) continue to use money making strategies like this.
Many Thanks in advance for your time, B

  • HP 7520 -- how to print using large black ink cartridge?

Hi, I've got the HP 7520 with the two black ink cartridges, one small and one large. However, as best I can tell, it's only using the black ink from the small cartridge, even when I print only in black and white (or "high quality grayscale"). Since 95% of the printing I need to do is just black and white (text, mostly) this is kindof annoying -- is there a way to force/encourage it to use the black in the bigger cartridge.
The reasons I believe it's not using the big ink cartridge is
    1) I've had to replace the small one half a dozen times in a pretty short time; the big one I haven't not at all, and it still shows up as full when I check ink levels2) when printing in B/W starts to get streaky, I run the "Print qualty diagnostic" page, and the "Black" section shows up as streaky but the "Photo" section (which appears to correspond to the larger blank ink cartridge) looks fine.
Also, when I photocopy in B/W it appears to work fine even when printing in B/W is not, so presumbly that's because it's using the big ink cartridge then.
Thanks in advance for the help/advice.
    -Mike

The large cartridge is black, the smaller cartridge is the photo cartridge.  There are a few things to check:
Make sure the proper media type is selected in the driver.  If you are mostly printing on plain paper make sure to select Plain Paper in the driver rather than Automatic.  It is possible for Automatic to misidentify the paper and think it is using photo paper.  When printing to photo paper the black cartrdige will not be used, only the photo and color cartridges.
In the driver settings for "Print in grayscale" select "Black ink only".

  • (Cli 8 ink) Where can I find the list of EVERY single printer that uses Cli 8 ink cartridges?

I purchased a set of Cli 8 cartridges when I owned a MP510 printer, but the printer died.I am now looking to purchase an all-in-one printer that uses the Cli 8 cartridges so the won't go to waste. Or should I just purchase an newer printer model ? I looked on Amazon for printers but none of the printers listed appear to be compatible with the ink.

Hello. Here is a list of printers that used the CLI-8 series ink tanks.  Please note, since these printers have been out of production for many years they may no longer be available at most retailers. PIXMA MP600

  • Can I use the black ink cartridge only, & quit replacing the color cartridge when it's empty?

I have an HP Officejet 6210 all in one printer that takes color ink (#95) and black ink (#94).   I only want to print in black and white.   The color cartridges are more expensive and since I don't want to use them, I don't want to replace it.  Can I have the printer bypass the color cartridge (and the notifications that come with an emply cartridge) so it will allow me to use the black cartridge (#94) only and let the #95 sit there empty?  (ie it tries to print from there and I get the blank sheets...want to default it to the black ink cartridge 100% of time.)  I waste too much money on ink and wish to use the cheaper cartridge (#94) always.

Can't agree more. HP's strategy of getting more sells of its cartrige is notorious. It really drives consumers away. I am ditching my HP printer and getting a Brother instead.

  • Non hp ink cartridges

My ink cartridges for my hp photosmart 6520 lasted a very short time so replaced them with non HP cartridges which were compatible. I get the well reported warnings that I am invalidated my warranty but the main issue is that my iPad will not print to the HP printer as it states that there is no ink. all the cartridges are full and direct printing works fine. I have downloaded the hp printing app but something seems to be stopping the iPad sending the print job to the printer.
could it be that as the cartridges are non Hp it thinks there is no ink and therefore does not send print job.
    any help much appreciated

Hi!, DaveB1: The original's cartdridges have a impressed circuit, what store many information, over the printer. If you extract from printer and replace with other non-original, you cann't see the remanent ink and out of warranty. Each cartdrige have date of expired warranty. You must see, if change with other original, this date, in the external case. All cartdridge are 564XL, with the date, of warranty. Please, see ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AVba_km2Oc

  • Is there a site to find printers that use a specific ink cartridge?

I currently own a Canon MP640R printer that I LOVE, unfortunately, it is done for and I just purchased a ton of cartridges for it.  Is there a site where I can see what other printers take the same cartridges?  I have decided that of all the printers that I have had, I really like the durability of the canon and would like to purchase another one, but don't see letting all these cartridges go to waste.
    Thanks,
    Donna

    Welcome andspradin!
Another person had a very similar question to you a while back.  The trick I've found is that if you go to Canon's online store and look up the ink cartridge, it will list the compatible printers.
    Hope that helps!

If you are running out of magenta this would cause a green tint to your prints.
