Using Novell Netware

Does anyone know how to use the novell netware with java?
esp. read out all connected users and send messages to them

Novell has 'LDAP Classes for Java' that may be of interest to you.
http://developer.novell.com/ndk/ldap-index.htm
With them you can authenticate to the NDS server and retrieve user information via LDAP. However, I don't know if this will contain a list of users that are currently logged into Novell.

  • Fun experience with Novell Netware server install.

I had no clue where this belonged, since there's not a Netware Forum here...so here it is.
I just had an opportunity for a job interview today and the company uses Novell Netware, so I thought I'd install the server and network my computers with the Novell Client to refresh my memory on things. What a pain in the arse...
First of all I already had 3 OS's installed on my machine and since Netware installs in DOS, I had to figure out what I wanted to do...so I deleted Redhat 9 which I just installed, and in the process I deleted my extended partition which lost two logical drives which (my bad) I hadn't backed up yet...(No great loss...although there was some stuff there I wanted to keep I can recover it.) OK...what the heck...I figure...so I move all my partitions to the top of the drive to make room at the front to install DOS 6.22 and Netware, but alas it screwed up my Windows 2003 server (as noted in the MS forum). OK...nothing on there I critically need...so it gets nixed too! Now tons of free space and only Win98 which I don't want to delete because there is stuff on there I want to keep and backup first. (BTW - I'm using System Commander for partitioning and OS stuff).
OK...install...DOS 6.22..no probs...install CD-ROM drivers...no prob...Go to install Netware via DOS and gosh! It only recognizes 14 mb RAM available and needs 96. I have 128! What's up with that? I tried that a dozen different ways, still no joy. OK...so, maybe I should have tried my old instructor's suggestion first...Use Win98's Dos to install...OK...did it...Cool -- no more RAM issue, but I get to the Network card driver part of the install and what happens? The install proggy keeps assigning an "invalid interupt" to my Realtek Network card.
Now I have to go to my interview...that went well (I think - one can never be sure until you get the job offer)...
Come back and it's raining...that means I can't go play in my garden...that's OK though--got a thousand things to do on my computers.
In the meanwhile I bounce my idea off my old instructor to "force" the IRQ in POST -- so I changed PCI slot1 to IRQ 3 and PCI slot 2 to IRQ 5 (both were set to "auto" - I wasn't sure which slot I had my card in and didn't want to open my computer and change it so I just picked 'em both). Cool...blasted right through that part of the install. Ooops...now SYS volume won't load. Why? I don't know...I think I forgot to create the partition. So, we go back to System Commander, and get us a new partition for netware and run install again.
Now this part I couldn't figure out...made it through to the network card part and I can't believe it...it autorecognized a Kensington driver when I know for sure I have a Realtek network card. I ain't complaining...it worked...SYS volume loaded and I have a running Novell server.
Now let's see how many issues I can create trying to install the client on another Win 98 machine I need to use to type a thank you letter for the interview and get it printed! *lol
In case you missed it, there's no problem in the above post to try to help me figure out. I just thought some might enjoy the story.
It's amazing what one forgets, that he thinks he remembers...or forgot that he should have remembered...or something like that!

  • Connection error Novell Netware 4.11

Nowadays I've changed the operating system from 10.3 to 10.4. But unfortunatelly I can't connect a Novell Netware 4.11 server. The server is seen in the server list, but if I try to connect, tzhere is an error messages: "This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it."
Is the Novell 4.11 supported in Tiger?

The problem is that OSX.4.x lost the file transfer ability of Appletalk... 10.1.5 thru 10.3.9 had it!

So, if you can't change Appletalk on the Server end to TCP/IP... ?

    Hello,
yes it is possible, we are having oracle 8.04 running on Netware 5.0 with Win98 clients using D2K.
However further versions of oracle e.g. 8i,9i etc are not available and never going to be available on netware.
hence we are migratiing to Win2K Adv server.
    regards.

  • Will Xsan connect to Novell Netware from Mac?

Will Xsan connecto Novell Netware?  I recently was able to connect to Novell using Snow Leopard and since upgrading to Lion can no longer connect to the Novell.
Need to be able to get this working and have tried different methods but not successful.
    Please help.

Xsan is just a filesystem. It doesn't connect to Novell. I take it you are having problems binding a Lion client to a Novell directory server, correct? If so, that's a problem between Novell and the Mac's Open Directory client.

  • Connecting OS X Server to Novell NetWare 6.5 eDirectory as a proxy

Have anyone tested to connect OS X Server to eDirectory as a "proxy"??
Macosxlabs.org had a WebCast in 2004 (#17) expalining integration with eDiretory and somewhere during the cast Dan Sinema from Apple mentioned this aproach of connecting to eDirectory and letting Workgroup Manager add/edit all OS X specific entries to directory. I this case you should not need to manually extend schema for Novell, but Workgroup Manager would do that for you.
I haven't tested this solution but I wonder if there is any practical experiance concerning this issue?
In my case I would like to connect OS X Server (Tiger, 10.4.8 UB or later) to Novell NetWare 6.5 eDirectory and have Novell take care of PC clients and OS X Server of macs as if it was standalone Master OD. The only thing taht I would like to sync is usernames and their passwords.
so if you have any ideas or practical expereance please share

  • Install Novell Netware 6.5

As elagrew says you can not simply install NetWare within Windows (a la Ubuntu's Wubi).
If you are running some form of virtualisation software (VMware Workstation/Player/Server or VirtualBox) on your Windows machine then you could install a NetWare server as a virtual machine.
Whether a physical (wiping existing hard disk content) or virtual install you do not have all the pieces you need - NetWare 6.5 is a 2 CD set and you are missing the second (Products) CD. If you have a DVD drive then you can save yourself some disk swapping by using an Overlay DVD that contains both OS & Product CDs combined.
You also note that you download NW65OSSP7.iso - this denotes NetWare 6.5 SP7 whereas SP8 is the latest (and final) release. SP8 is available for download from NOVELL: Downloads - NetWare 6.5 SP8 e Media Kit
Also, as elagrew notes, Novell have moved from NetWare to Open Enterprise Server which is a Linux-based alternative that installs on top of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. Latest version of that is OES2 SP3 (on SLES10 SP3) and it can be downloaded from NOVELL: Downloads - Novell Open Enterprise Server 2 SP3

  • Novell Netware 6.5 monitoring

Hi everybody! I know about that there is a possibility to monitor Novell Netware 6.5 servers by Nagios.....
Could someone tell me.....Can i do it  by SCOM somelike....?

Currently, Novell netware 6.5 is not on supported list of SNMP network device which you can download the list from
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26831
This means that you should create your own snmp discovery for Novell netware 6.5 snmp and correspsonding monitor OID value. The following link may be helpful for you to discover the OID value of Novell netware server monitoring using SNMP.

  • Cisco ASA 5505, Cisco VPN Client and Novell Netware

    Hi,
Our ISP have installed Cisco ASA 5505 firewall. We are trying to connect to our Novell 5.1 server using VPN client.
I installed VPN client on a laptop that is using wireless connection. I connect using wireless signal from near by hotel and I am able to connect to my firewall usinging vpn client and also able to login in using Novell client for XP.
When I use same vpn client and Novell client at home that is not using wireless connection, but DSL connection amd not able to login or find the tree.
The only difference in two machine is laptop using wireless connection and my home machine is using wired connection using DSL.

If your remote end of the services in question support IPsec IKEv1 as the VPN type then, yes - the 5505 can be a client for that service. At that point it looks like a regular LAN-LAN VPN which is documented in many Cisco and 3rd party how-to documents.

  • Novell Netware 4.11 on Microsoft Virtual Pc 2004

    Hello,
I have Novell Netware 4.11 SP9 running in a Microsoft Virtual PC 2004.
I can not get the network card to detect or work. This looks to be the
closest support group in the list that might have an answer.
The Virtual PC creates virtual hardware for the Intel / Dec 21140 network
    card.
I know poeple have got 4.11 SP8a to work in VPC 2004 but I can't seem to
get it to work. Intel suggest I need:
    NBI.NLM v2.25 9/17/98
    MSM.NLM v3.95 5/12/99
    ETHERTSM.NLM v3.8 3/1/99
Which I now have. I have tried numerous Intel and even some old Dec lan
drivers. Here is an example of the error.
    LOAD SYS:SYSTEM\DC21X4.LAN SLOT=3 TX_THRESHOLD=4 RX_BUFFERS=5
    FRAME=ethernet_802.3 NAME=DC21X4_1_E83

DC21X4-NW-050: No PCI board found in machine!
    SERVER-4.11-1553: Module initialization failed.
    Module DC21X4.LAN NOT loaded
    Any Ideas ?
(I have loaded the nbi, msm and ethertsm files manually but still do not
    get card detection)
    Thanks

I know nothing about VirtualPC and you will find many people here who know
more about VMWare which I could recommend.
Based upon my VMWare experience, make sure the NIC is configured Private/Host
    Only or NAT.
It must be configured to appear directly connected to your LAN.

  • Mac Pro and Novell Netware

Can Mac Pro connect to a Novell Netware server/LAN?

    Naz,
There shouldn't be any issues connecting with the Mac Pro. How are you connecting today? Is your LAN on IP or IPX? What version of NetWare are your running? Are you connecting via NFA or an actual Novell Client in OSX? If it is via NFA then there is no change from how you do it today. As you know there are new 3rd party clients like the one from ProSoft.
