Using old copy of FCP on v10.5 (Leopard)

I have a copy of FCP v3.0 that I want to use on a Leopard system. Apple says "this is unsupported". But can I get away with it anyway?
Gary

You can install it in 10.5

Hi the last time that I backed up my Mac Pro to my external hard drive using Carbon Copy was when I was on Leopard. I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, can I continue using Carbon Copy Cloner on Snow Leopard or do i have to format the external Drive? Thanks

For compatibility make sure you have the latest version (3.3)

  • Copy of fcp .....

I bought a computer with fcp 4.5 already on it. Unfortunately, I do not have the fcp disc. Now I want to purchase a more powerful mac. Is it possible to copy my version of fcp to an external scsi drive, then connect that drive to a new computer, then load it on new computer???

Yeah, it's illegal, besides, there's no joy in having software when you know you can't ever reinstall the OS (for fear that it'll mess up the installation of the software). Yuk. Also, if you were planning on using that copy of FCP 4.5 on an Intel Mac, be advised that it wouldn't run well (if at all—and if you could figure out a way to transfer it to the new Mac).
Go find a copy of Final Cut Express—even a used copy on eBay will do—and use that instead. Unless you're doing high end professional work, you probably won't need any of FCP's advanced features. If you have an Intel Mac, you will need the current version of FCE (3.5). You can always use an older version of FCE as an upgrade path and get the newest version.

  • Can I install OS X v10.5 Leopard on a separate HD

Hi, I have a pc running Win XP and Windows 7 on separate HDs. I have another spare HD which  I intend to use to download and install OSX v10.5 Leopard, can I do that? By the way I have an IPad4.

Hello, it isn't available legally or safely via download, but do you have a Mac that'll run 10.5.x ?

  • How can we disassociate an Apple ID from a set of computers formated from a single computer using Carbon Copy Cloner and a single image and then Migration Assistant to install their old profile? The original ID is the Apple ID for all the stores.

Here is a bit more detail.
We were replacing old teacher machines and wanted to do it as efficiently as possible. Therefore, we set up one computer, through the OS installation and ran all updates, and then made a disk image so that we can use Carbon Copy Cloner to image all the other computers without having to run all the other updates. Once they were set up to a base level and assigned to a teacher we used Migration Assistant to import all their old files and items. Everything has been fine until recently the computers became aware of needing an update for one or two apps. The machine asks for the original computer's Apple ID for all updates. We have logged out of the apple id and back in with another to test if running the updates will work with that Apple ID and even after a refresh it still asks for the other Apple ID. How can we disassociate the Apple ID from those other computers so that the individual who owns the original is not needed each time there is an update or has to give out their Apple ID password?

There are two parts to this:
    1) It may be that you should have an Apple Education Support person helping you with this. If you have enough computers for this to be a problem, you may benefit from a Server, a site license, and an occasional visit from an Education Support Specialist.
    2) The brief answer, if you want Individual Apple_IDs to control each computer, is to buy new copies of Mac OS X under those new Apple_IDs and re-download and re-Install. Mac OS X is customized to the Apple_ID before it is downloaded.

  • How is it possible to use an employer's copy of FCP?

My employer wants to buy a copy of FCP for staff usage. Unfortunately, it's an all PC office, so it would have to operate on personal computers, like mine. Is it possible to buy a license, install it on my computer while I am working here, then "give it back" to my employer so they can use it in the future?
I assume this would mean installing it with an Apple ID other than my own. Thanks!

The employer should buy it with his Apple ID, which you run on your computer to download it. It's his Apple ID so at any time he can download it on another machine. Though if he runs it on multiple machines he should purchase multiple licenses.

  • I'm looking for software for my iMac to use to copy old VHS movies onto DVD and old records (digital turn table) in CDs.  Recommendations please?

I'm looking for software for my iMAC to use to copy old VHS movies from a VCR into DVDs and records from my digital turn table into CDs.  Any recommendations?

For the VHS movies, try googling Elgato - they make a number of USB devices that are supposed to be able to do this, but check what formatting options they offer : you will want a device that converts directly into .MOV files (to play in QuickTime), or into H.264 for iTunes / iPods, etc.
As for the vinyl records - first you need a device that will convert the analogue output (phono) into a digital form and will connect via FireWire or USB. The Griffin iMic is one such USB device (if still available?). From there you can use the free Audacity download to read in the signal and convert to a suitable format, e.g. MP3. (You will need to use SysPrefs / Sound to switch to an external audio device, instead of your Mac's built-in mic.)
(Wait - you said "digital turntable" - software already on your Mac? How do you use a virtual turntable to play vinyl?? Unless what you really mean is an analogue turntable that has a CD writer in it, or a USB connection to connect the turntable's DAC output to a computer?? In which case, either use your turntable to burn  CDs, or connect via USB and the free Audacity software to convert the signal to music tracks and output as MP3.

  • HT5444 I would like to use a copy of Mountain Lion for development, but the store tells me I cannot download it because my MacBook 4,1 is not compatible! What can I do to download it?

I would like to use a copy of Mountain Lion for development, but the store tells me I cannot download it because my MacBook 4,1 is not compatible! What can I do to download it?
I have paid for it and all...

    You can't do anything. See:
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
Your computer does not meet the requirements to run Mountain Lion.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • I'm trying to update my iTunes and it says that an old copy of bonjour can't be uninstalled. Then the download just stops. Any help is appreciated.

I am trying to update my iTunes and a message comes up that an old copy of bonjour cannot be uninstalled. The download just stops. I tried to uninstall bonjour but it says I need to find an alternate route to bonjour. I'm not particularly computer technically savvy, so I'm not sure how to rectify this. Any ideas?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the thingy on the page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Using old file system backup for Cloning

I have taken an off-line backup of Oracle 11i (11.5.10.2) 15 days ago. Before taking backup of file system , I verified that all the latest Rapid Clone Patches are applied. No changes or patch work in APPL_TOP or DB has been done since that backup. Now I need to do cloning of this instance, how I can use this backup for Cloning.
Rapid Clone scripts create and generate some files/directories so I am not sure whether my Old backup of file system will work or not. What is the best way to use old backup for cloning , also what are the file and directories in addition to the old backup of file system which I need to copy to Target System.
    Thanks for reviewing and suggestions.
    Samar

    Samar,
If you have run preclone before backing it up, your backup should be valid for cloning.
2.1 in the cloning doc has to be in the backup.
These doc's should clear out yours doubts on cloning.

  • Old eMac for FCP, is it worth it?

A friend is contemplating getting a used eMac for running FCP. I'm guessing that it's too old for using the latest version of FCP. Does anyone know what version of FCP he'd need to get and what formats would he be able to cut with? Just DV?
Thanks for any info or ideas.

The eMacs were all G4 computers and were the lowliest of the low end of the Mac line. They are absolutely not designed for media processes. That said, your friend could probably use FCP v5.04 on it, assuming he is getting some model faster than 1Ghz. He should max out the RAM too. And even then, he not have a tremendously satisfactory experience. But it should indeed work, and if the projects aren't to big, he should be OK - and yes, only at DV rez.

  • Lost photos! aaaggh! (iPhoto 08). I disconnected my HDD temporarily when relocating.I synced my iphone and iPhoto it seems has rebuilt the library from the old copy

I have two ext HDD intended to ensure I don't lose my photos( iPhoto 08). I disconnected my HDD temporarily when relocating.
I then synced my iphone and iPhoto it seems has rebuilt the library from the old copy of the library (2011. I have Time Machine but I can't restore the last 3y photos as I guess Time machine does not back up the other HDD.
Any chance of finding my treasured photos somebody?

Sounds like you have another iPhoto library someplace - under no conditions would iPhoto revert a library to an older one - you just need to find and open the correct one
Depress and hold the option key, launch iPhoto and use the resulting select library to look st the libraries you have

  • Upgrading harddrive and using Carbon Copy Cloner

Hi I'm planning to replace my internal harddrive on my old MacBook Pro (August 2007) running Leopard with the following harddrive:
    Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420ASG - Hard drive - 500 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300 - 7200 rpm - buffer: 16 MB
Is it fully compatible? Also, this ST9500420AS "G" model is said to have its own G-Force sensor. How does it all work out with MacBook Pro's sudden motion sensor?
Finally, if I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my old harddrive onto my new harddrive, how can I solve the problem of the "etc", "tmp" and "var" recurring folder problem without the use of the Mac OS X Installation Disc (since I've lost it)?
    Thanks very much.
P.S.: Anything else special that I need to take note of when using Carbon Copy Cloner?

    The Random Sniper wrote:
Thanks very much. So it is recommended that I should rather for the ST9500420AS non-"G" model for my MacBook Pro to avoid conflict with the existing Sudden Motion Sensor?
If you want to stay with a Seagate, yes.
However, I've also heard that Apple has released a firmware in the past to deal with the G-Force sensor / SMS conflict issue for the MacBook Pro (while nVidia didn't)? Is that true?
Which firmware update are you referring to?
On the other hand, would Western Digital Scorpio Blue's WD5000BEVT be a good alternative? I have heard that although it is only 5400rpm, it's performance is as good as 7200rpm harddrives.
Take a look at a site which has reviews, such as newegg, tomshardware, xlr8yourmac.com. In my mind, Seagates seem to have gone downhill and quite a few people have posted here with compatibility issues. The WD 640GB also seems to have more than its fair share of problems, although I don't believe the 500 shares those issues. After reviewing tests at tomshardware, I chose a 7200 Hitachi 500GB, which was at or near the top in nearly all categories, and has very good user reviews at newegg. I've yet to choose a 2.5" SATA external enclosure (with the number of enclosures around the house, it's hard to believe I don't have one yet, but I guess not), so have not run it yet.

  • Selling a copy of FCP..

What are the rules for me transferring a license if I want to sell my copy of FCP 4 to someone?

Doing a search for "license transfer" found this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=26275
    from the above link:
"3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License.
