Using older iPod accessories

I've been charging and snycing with the cable and power adapter from the 4g iPod with my iPod touch. It seems fine but is there a chance that there will be a problem in the long run. I don't like using the cable that came with the touch because its to hard to remove unlike the ones that came with the 1g nano and the 4g iPod

It should work just fine.

  • IPod Touch - video out using older iPod Composite cable

OK so the running commentary about video output from the iPod touch is a little confusing. It seems that the only video out supported by apple seems to be from their own component/composite cables. The older iPod Photo came with a 1/8" headphone A/V composite cable that allowed me to connect it to my TV for photo slide-shows with a soundtrack. Can I use this same cable to connect the IPT with my TV or am I now forced to purchase the $50.00 30-pin cable? I cannot find anything that is definitive, and I have not tried it yet. After spending a small fortune on the iPod I am not excited about having to buy a new cable...
    Thanks

Just the cable - I was using "dock" in the sense of dock connector (which is how the non-USB end is referred to), not the Universal Dock product.
Here are links to the Apple Store for the component and composite cables. These also include a USB cable for power.
You're guessing correctly - the USB cable (with the dock connector on the other end) that you use for syncing cannot transmit video from the IPT.

  • HT1353 How to use older iPod with Windows 7 & latest iTunes?

I have ipod classic 5th generation 30g that still has a lot of my music on it.  My computer with iTunes version that synched with it crashed.  New VAIO Windows 7 laptop can't recognize the hardware.  Where can I get a driver for the VAIO Windows 7?  Can I use my iPod with the latest iTunes?  Will I ever be able to load new music to this older iPod?

I fixed this by un-installing iTunes.  Next installed latest version for 64bit Windows 7.  Opened iTunes and connected my iPod to my laptop using the USB cable.  The driver was automatically updated and iTunes was able to recognize the older iPod and copied all my purchased music to iTunes on my new VAIO.
    Yeaaa!

  • Ridiculous lack of support for older iPod accessories

After thoroughly enjoying my iPod mini through 4 years and two batteries, I decided it was time to finally upgrade to a nano. I'm starting to think that was a big mistake. Despite an amazing screen, great functionality, and excellent storage capacity, the brand may forever be tarnished now by the fact that my new iPod did not work properly with any iPod accessory I owned. Apparently, everything I owned used firewire based charging, and Apple has dropped support of this capacity. This means my neither my $200 iPod speakers nor my $200 car integration will charge my new iPod. I used to think the iPod was an icon of the industry. I used to feel confident buying accessories, knowing they would integrate seemlessly with my iPod. Now I feel like the iPod is just another scam, with Apple's only interest being to make a buck. I will definitely never purchase another iPod accessory again, and will probably not purchase or recommend an iPod to anyone unless this problem is fully resolved.

    Hey Foxhound199,
The accessories that have the "Made for iPod" logo are certified by Apple and should work without any issues. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1665
You can leave iPod related feedback about firewire charing support here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipodnano.html

  • Using "older" generic accessories with 3rd G nano

I have discovered that even relatively new accessories such as FM transmitters for iPods (car) and speakers with a base, do not fit the new nano. Is anyone aware of any potential "danger" in using these accessories despite the fact that the adaptors to firmly hold the new nano do not exist?

    It should work just fine.

  • Using old ipod accessories

Hello. I've had an ipod mini in the past and I got the 2nd gen touch for this christmas. I had to get the new adapter since I had the FireWire adapter, didn't know they took that way!
I have a griffin fm transmitter and the touch is a little too big to plug in, and doesn't support the touch. Is there an accessory to get in order to use the transmitter instead of buying a whole new one? I have yet to try out my car charger and I'm afraid that wont work either.
Any advice/help would be appreciated, thanks!

Hmmm... This adapter costs as much as a new transmitter/power adapter!
I have a griffin transmitter/power adapter. It works fine with my new iPod touch,
except that it won't charge it. The transmitter works fine. This is because up
through the iPod Touch G1, the iPods used the Firewire charging circuit.
The iPT G2 doesn't so old chargers won't work.
If you cut the shield off the iPod mini charger/transmitter that fits around
the bottom of the iPod mini, it would transmit fine, it just wouldn't charge.

  • Adapter to use older iPod docking devices with iPod touch?

Turns out that old docking devices that provide power don't work with the iPod Touch. It displays an error message indicating that it can't charge, and you're left running on batteries. I heard that Apple stopped allowing power on the old Firewire pins. Is anyone aware of an adapter that fits between the Touch and the old docking connector to rectify this?
    Thanks,
    Andreas

I am in a pinch and need a quick answer.
    Thanks to all,

You are welcome, but you should thank Apple. They made it so we could use older iPod cables.
    Thank you Apple!

  • I have an older Ipod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new Ipod Touch and cannot be updated.  Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one?

I have an older iPod Touch, I bought a new one and the Itunes on my computer is too old to recognize my new iPod Touch and Itunes cannot be updated.  Is there a creditable software program I can use to get all my old music from my old iPod Touch to the new one?  It is my understanding that the music cannot be saved onto my new iTunes, b/c I did not have iCloud. I have over 2,000 songs I just cannot part with. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help some how!!  THANKS!

I had the same problem with my iPad, i couldn't get the newer version of itunes because the computer was too old and my iPad couldnt sync with the old itunes. I got a PC from school a few months later so that solved the problem for me. Unfortunately i don't think there would be a program to put your music on your iPod, iTunes should be the only way to transfer files to Apple devices. What operating system are you running and what version of it is it?

  • I have an older IPOD that I'm having trouble getting new purchases on to my IPOD. I use to have a source list on the left hand side of screen where I dragged my purchases to and they downloaded.  Can't find place to check manual vs. auto sync.

I have an older IPOD classic that I'm having trouble getting new purchases from library to IPOD. I use to have a IPOD icon in the source list on the left side of the screen. Now that is all gone. My purchases are coming up as recently purchased but can't figure out how to get them transferred to IPOD.  I also can't find how to confirm setting is for manual not auto sync as the first computer I had blew up and am now using a different one. I haven't had any of these problems prior to the updates.

    G'day Mate,
As an avid flight simmer I bought a new soundcard my previous was
an audigy 2 platinum ex with an external module I really liked but somehow all of a sudden I was getting a screech when using FS9 sor I opted to change to the present. Well stone the crows my soundcard was auto updated with new drivers and well you guessed it the soundcard did not show in the sound video controllers window No I have just joined this forum and it looks like3 you may have the answer for me . I am now going to do as you suggest and see what happens.
I shall return with the outcome of my dilemma.
Many thanks for your sound advice ( pardon the pun)

  • Can I use my old accessories for a 40GB (4G) iPod with new 160GB iPod Classic?

    I just purchased a 160GB (7G) iPod Classic. I had been using a 40GB (4G) iPod.
The male connectors on  the accessories I used with my 40GB iPod seem to fit into the female connector on my new 160 GB. So, I am wondering if I can use these old accessories with my new 160GB iPod Classic. The old accessories I used with my 40GB (4G) iPod are as follows.
    1) Wall charger made by Apple. It has a firewire connection at one end of the charger cord which connects to  the small white plastic box of the charger that plugs into the wall. The other end of the charger cord seems to fit my iPod 160GB Classic.
    2) Dock made by Apple. It uses a firewire connection cord to my computer, in contrast to the USB connection cord that came with my 160GB iPod Classic.
    3) Car chargers that worked with my old 40GB, 4G  iPod. The car charger connectors seems to fit my new 160GB iPod Classic. One car charger is made by Apple. The other is not made by Apple.
So, could you please tell me if I can use any or all of these old accessories with my new 160GB Classic without damaging it.
    Thanks.
    Richard

  • Can an older IPod (click wheel) be used with a wireless/bluetooth speaker? If so, how?

Can an older IPod (click wheel) be used with a wireless/bluetooth speaker? If so, how?

There is no doubt you can.
When you say photos stored on it.. in what form are these photos?? Is this your iphoto library?
If so using iphoto library on the TC has risks.. not necessarily viewing photos .. that should be fine. But if you have photos you are editing and wireless comms drop out leaving the library with a file open, it is likely to corrupt your library. Please check with the iphoto people on the discussion board if you want to go ahead for the dangers of using iphoto on any network drive.
The TC is not designed as a NAS .. in particular it cannot back itself up, nor can Time Machine backup the TC. So any files on the TC are at risk. If you manage to corrupt the iphoto library without a current backup... does that worry you??

  • HT1339 my older iPod my husband wants to use and his netbook does not have cd drive. How do I down load iPod and iTunes info for this product so he can now use it?

my older iPod my husband wants to use and his netbook does not have cd drive. How do I down load iPod and iTunes info for this product so he can now use it?

Your question(s) is/are a little hard to understand.  So your husband has an iPod as well as a netbook and he wants to be able to sync iPod with this netbook is that correct?  If so, he'll need to first download and install iTunes assuming the netbook is running some version of Windows such as 7, Vista, or XP.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
As for importing or ripping music, he'll have to either use an external CD/DVD drive that is attached via USB or rip the songs to another PC you have with a built in CD/DVD drive.  Once you have imported them to the other computer, you can transfer the songs to an external hard drive or to his iTunes library via Home Sharing.
If this isn't quite what you were looking for, please clarify.
