Using older receiver with no optical input

Hello my older dlp has gone out so have decided to buy a new one. I want a a 50 + inch tv, think i have decided on plasma because led's are still to high for me. My problem is I have a Kenwood KR-V8040 receiver that has no HDMI or Optical audio inputs. The tvs dont all have the red/white out like i use for my surround sound now. Anyone know how to hook up without that or am i just out of luck?

Brewerrob, you might look for a digital audio to analog audio converter but you would have to Google that and go to another site. Cost looks to be anywhere from $60 up, so I guess at some point it's a decision whether to invest in the conversion or shop for a new receiver--looks like there are some available for under $200 that might work for you. It would be worth shopping as many online retailers as you can to find the best deal. Not sure what BB's policy is about naming names or posting links, but an online retailer based in Virginia lists several; trouble is, you can buy a new receiver for what some of them cost.
If you haven't found it already, you might search the AVS forum (avsforum.com) to see if anyone there has a suggestion.
I'm still using a CRT TV, but have started to shop for a flat panel and have the same problem. I have an older Technics receiver I like (especially since I upgraded speakers to some Polk RTiA1's), but it doesn't have optical, coax, or HDMI input. I will probably be shopping in the 32"-42" range and Sony seems to be the only manufacturer that still includes analog stereo so that will be the way I will go.
Good luck!

  • Is it possible to show a presentation from the original iPad via wireless on an older projector with no HDMI input?

is it possible to show a presentation from the original iPad via wireless on an older projector with no HDMI input? If so, what equipment is needed?

The ipad not support wireless projector yet.
The workaround is you are using computer that connected wirelessly [needs 2 wireless adapter] / via cable to projector and connected also to the wireless router.
You are controlling the computer via wireless connected to the router using remote desktop app like splashtop, teamviewer, logmein, vnc, etc. You must set the remote desktop port and app at the computer too as ipad app support.

  • Using older servos with new controller

My group has a three-axis stage controlled by an old Galil DMC-230
motion control board, Galil ESA-10-75 amplifilers and three dc servo
motors (from Galil too, I think).  The board is mounted in an
ancient computer running DOS.  To make matters worse, the hard
drive seems about to give out.  We would like to leave the stage
and motors alone but replace the controller and amplifiers.  We
are considering using an NI PCI-7344 controller with an NI MID-7604
    Motor Drive.
    My questions are:
What are the main things to consider when matching a servo motor to a controller?
Has anyone done anything similar (using older servos, but replacing controller and drive)?
Should I just give up and beg the boss to buy new motors as well?
    Thanks for any advice!
    Telemaque

Been there and almost done that. We have a legacy DOS Galil based (DMC-630 controllers with SSA-12/40 drives) system with brushed servos that is on it's last legs.
Matching servo to drive amps- look at max currents, voltages, and inductances on the motors to see if drive can accomodate. Are they brushed or brushless motors. Also check if encoders and hall signals from existing motors and limits from stages compatible with new controller.
Personally, I would suggest new motors since you may not know their history of (ab)use and depending on their ratings, may be a minor percentage of total retrofit cost. You may also want to have the stages sent out for refurbishment if time permits. They have probably seen a lot of use with little or no cleaning and lubrication. Mechanical wear also takes it's toll. On the system I mentioned above, we were experiencing loss of accuracy and repeatability- the lead screws and nuts were trashed.
Just a couple ideas to start with.
    Good Luck

  • HT1353 How to use older iPod with Windows 7 & latest iTunes?

I have ipod classic 5th generation 30g that still has a lot of my music on it.  My computer with iTunes version that synched with it crashed.  New VAIO Windows 7 laptop can't recognize the hardware.  Where can I get a driver for the VAIO Windows 7?  Can I use my iPod with the latest iTunes?  Will I ever be able to load new music to this older iPod?

I fixed this by un-installing iTunes.  Next installed latest version for 64bit Windows 7.  Opened iTunes and connected my iPod to my laptop using the USB cable.  The driver was automatically updated and iTunes was able to recognize the older iPod and copied all my purchased music to iTunes on my new VAIO.
    Yeaaa!

  • Using older OS with iPad

I am thinking of buying an iPad. I see that the specs require OS 10.5 or above. I have OS 10.4.11. What problems will I encounter using an iPad with my computer?

    it's not supported
so it would not sync to itunes which mean it would not reg with itunes which is required before you can start using it
of cause you could use another computer to reg it with itunes and start using it but it would result in no backup and no os updates

  • Using older versions with creative cloud versions

I know you don't have to uninstall previous versions of the adobe products in order to run the creative cloud cs6 versions... but I was wondering what were the pros/cons of keeping both versions on your computer? Is it the best idea to uninstall any cs5 applications or is the best idea to keep them both?

It totally depends on you, how you want to keep it.
If you wish to keep CS 5 along with CS 6, you can do that without any issues.
The softwares like Acrobat/Reader, would ask you to uninstall the previous versions before you can install the latest version.

  • I would like to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable and pass thru dolby digital. I do not have optical inputs on my receiver.

I want to connect my Apple TV to my receiver using an HDMI cable. This should allow me to pass thru high definition video and simultaneously decode Dolby Digital material with an HDMI connection from my receiver to my TV without the use of an optical cable (my receiver does not have an optical input). I am unable to decode 5.1 material and don't understand why this is not working. In the audio setting I have Dolby Digital output turned on.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Are you sure the content you are playing has Dolby Digital.

  • Wanting to connect an older G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4.11 to a Marantz SR4023 receiver amplifier with only RCA inputs to play iTunes through it on stereo speakers. Can anyone advise how to do this?

Wanting to connect an older G4 Powerbook running OS 10.4.11 to a Marantz SR4023 receiver amplifier with only RCA inputs to play iTunes through it on stereo speakers. Can anyone advise how to do this? Not tech savvy at all here, and will be happy with a simple hard wired connection.  The Powerbook is old, and I no longer want to use it for anything but connecting iTunes radio, and my iTunes library to my stereo system.

    Hi,
There were many PowerBook G4 models (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3065) with different ports (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2369).
If necessary, a manual can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#PowerBook%20G4
Generally speaking, the output of a headphone port can often be used for the connection to an amplifier. You would need an appropriate cable (typically, 3.5 mm stereo plug to two RCA plugs). Choose a suitable amplifier input (high level). Do verify the allowed amplifier input voltage levels and the impedance before you connect.

I have a pioneer 50 inch plasma + I purchased new from the company back in 2005.   I tried to hook up an Apple Tv to the pioneer receiver that came with the TV.   I can not get it to work.
The receiver has two HDMI  inputs in the back.  However they say they are not for PC's.  Furthermore they must be set up by going to the home menu.    I tried everything, but I can not get the receiver to talk to the Apple TV. I even tried a connector that uses an HDMI to the Apple TV that has the other side of the cable as 5 RCA cables.  I could not get the receiver to see the Apple TV.   I have a newer TV in the house, it has no problem talking with the Apple TV.  But this older system seems to be handicapped in its ability to talk with the newer Apple TV system.
    My Email is [email protected]
    Do you have any suggestions
    Thanks
    Bob

I could not access the Apple TV on the television.   If I put the Apple TV directly into by TV, I have an external sound system (entertainment system), therefore I worry that I would by pass the audio.
Thanks for taking your time to attempt to help!   Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Airport Express connected to optical input on receiver, but no audio

I have a Rotel RSX-1055 receiver. I recently bought a toslink cable to connect my Apple Airport Express to the optical input. The receiver seems to be getting a signal - 44.1 khz scrolls across the display when I play music - but I'm getting no audio.
I'm streaming VBR MP3 files converted from CDs using LAME on a high quality setting. I can't seem to find any reason why this isn't working.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello rjpwp001. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    I suggest trying the following:
o Connect a pair of stereo headphones to the AX's audio port. Does the audio stream play thru the headphones properly? If it does, this should verify the analog audio circuitry is functioning.
o Try a different audio source, like iTunes. While connected to the receiver with the TOSlink cable, try different audio selections from iTunes. Are you getting sound at the receiver now?
o Try a different TOSlink cable. How about now?

  • How do I use optical input for recording in Garageband 9?

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the Optical Line Input on my G5 for recording in Garageband, using a MOTU 828. I have the 828 optical output connected to the optical audio input on the G5, and I have Digital In (Optical digital-in port) selected in system preferences/sound. But in Garageband preferences, optical or digital input is not among my choices. If I select system setting or built-in audio 2, I get no signal. If I select MOTU 828, it defaults to the analog master outputs on the 828.
I am a Logic 8 user, and I'm able to select the optical input in Logic with no problem. I have my MOTU audio setup set so that the optical output is the default output, but Garageband still seems to use the analog output. I can tell by the record level, which is considerably louder for analog than for optical.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • IPad 2 + AV Adaptor + older TV with VGA input. Can I mirror?

I have an iPad 2 (iOS 5.1), the Apple AV Adaptor and an older tv with VGA input.
    Option A
Can I mirror to the tv using a HDMI to VGA cable - something like this or this ?
    Would this work?
    Option B
Or do I totally ignore the AV Adaptor and buy the Apple VGA Adaptor and a VGA cable?
Then do I also need a cable for sound? What do you call it?
Has anyone used Option A and has it worked?
I would obviously prefer Option A as I already have the AV Adaptor.

The two cables you linked to are both passive and are only meant for PC cards with digital(!) signal output on VGA. That is, in your case, they won't work.
The easiest and cheapest way is purchasing the VGA adaptor. HOWEVER, it won't let you 1, charge your iPad while playback, 2, play back DRM'ed movies (ones that you purchased from iTunes Store).
If you want to stick with HDMI (see the two problems above), you'll want to go for an active HDMI -> VGA converter. I've purchased the one at http://www.dealextreme.com/p/hdmi-to-vga-video-converter-71816 and found it, for the price, excellent. If you don't want a converter with a power cord, let me know and I list other (but more expensive) converters.
