Using OneStep DVD

i just made a dvd using idvd's "OneStep DVD", it worked with no problem. the only thing is, while the movie was being extracted from my mini-dv camcorder i could see it using more space, for example (before extraction:64.46Gb-after extraction:62.26Gb. oddly enough after restarting my mac i now have 64.26Gb. is the movie that was "extracted" anywhere on my mac still? nothing in my movie folders etc... please assist, thank you.

When using OneStep, nothing is saved to your hard drive (unless something crashes )
When you quit and restart iDVD, all temporary files associated with the OneStep project are deleted.
please assist, thank you
I don't understand what the problem is.

  • Using OneStep DVD with a HDD Camera

I am a relatively new mac user (4 months) but i've navigated my way around pretty well and have used all the ilife software as well as final cut express and some other things with much delight. But I have a wife and have a 1 year old baby. The wife is intelligent but would rather not spend time editing video etc.. but would rather take our files directly off the camera and burn them to dvd.. So i noticed the onestep dvd process which would be perfect if we had a firewire type camera.. But we don't. We also don't have firewire on our new macbook. Hence the reason we bought a HDD camera that does AVCHD. Just wondering if anyone knows if iDVD could use a HDD camera with a quick process such as OneStep DVD.
    thanks
    Steve

Too late to edit my reply so I'll add this here .....
The only way I can think of to accomplish your wife's objective is with a FW minidv camcorder (example pictured below) and a Dvd Recorder with a FW input like this one (Daewoo DVR07):
The advantage in this is that all is done in real time (as opposed to waiting for iDvd to capture and encode a one step dvd) and includes a basic menu and interval chapters if you wish (not to mention the ability to record in sessions as opposed to write at once only thru iDvd).
Btw ... iDvd's One Step can actually take longer than using the traditional approach of iMovie => iDvd (just so you are aware).
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Need OneStep DVD Help

I just used a firewire plug to connect my digital camcorder (set to VCR) to my MacBook, inserted a blank DVD, clicked on "OneStep DVD". Nada.
    What gives?

    Hi pceary,
    welcome to macbook forum.
First, check if your macbook detect and able to communicate with your camcorder, by opening iMovie, and switch the button from scissor icon to camcorder icon, and if it is connected and you can import the movie, then those two are communicate each other.
Second try again within this sequence:
+To use OneStep DVD, connect your digital video camera to your computer using a FireWire cable. Then turn on your camera and make sure it's in VCR mode.+
+Click OK and insert a blank disc. OneStep DVD rewinds the tape, imports your video, and burns it to a DVD.+
    Good Luck.

  • Onestep DVD in folders, not file

Thanks in advance for any help. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get my movies from Final Cut Express or iMovie into a format that is decoded accurately on a Windows machine. I read that iDVD automatically converts to an mpeg-2, so I used Onestep DVD to create a DVD that showed great on my Windows computer. However, what I thought would be a single file like (movie.mpg) is rather a video and an audio folder; and since I need to copy this into another program that runs at my kiosk, is impossible to use. Is there anyway I can get this same quality into a single file? Neither Final Cut Express nor iMovie allow you to create mpeg-2's, and I've tried every other format to no avail. Thanks again. Also, if I need to go to another forum, please let me know.

I contacted Apple Care today, and there was a resolution for this in iMovie, though not in iDVD. Basically, there is a way to convert an iMovie project to an H.263 file. If you are interested in how to do this, please follow my thread under Final Cut Express, topic "Convert to mpeg-2" http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8164350#8164350

  • Trouble burning with OneStep DVD

I've been archiving a number of my Digital hi-8 tapes onto DVD using OneStep DVD with no problems until recently. The last few hi-8 tapes I want to archive onto DVD do not start immediately so OneStep seems to think there is no information on the tape and will not burn a DVD. I get an error message as follows: "Nothing Captured. No video has been captured. Aborting OneStep DVD creation."
I've been trying to figure out a way to "trick" OneStep DVD into not rewinding the tape on my camera all the way so it will start when the video actually begins on the tape but I can't figure out how to make it work because it keeps rewinding regardless. I have too many tapes to create actual DVD projects so OneStep is the way for me to go at this point. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

    Hi Len;
I actually tried this approach but, for some reason, I get an "out of memory" message when I take this route. It's worked fine (with other movies of the same type) when I am able to burn straight to DVD but gives me grief when I try to burn the very same movie from iMovie. Any other suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Time taken for OneStep DVD

I am REALLY new to iDVD. I transfered my video from the camera and created a movie using iMovie with about four transitions. I am using OneStep DVD from the saved movie on my HD. It has successfully made the DVD, but oh, my goodness, it takes about six hours to finish!! The movie is 1 hour and 45 minutes. Is this a normal time to process??
    Thanks for your help.

For a Mac Mini like you have - probably - especially if you are doing other things with the computer while iDVD is trying to work.
Creating DVDs requires lots of patience - especially with a slow machine (by today's standards).

  • Onestep dvd great video, no sound

    Hi,
I made a dvd using onestep dvd from my minidv. The video came out great, nice and clear looks awesome. The problem is there is no sound. Tried it twice on two separate days with same results. Anyone no why this is happening. The process seems simple enough I just don't know why the sound wont come through. Any help will be great.
    Aloha, Sean

    Hi Sean
Your original material from ? miniDV tape Camera or ?
    iDVD
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows:
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy: Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match: iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match: iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iDVD pref file resides: Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named: com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.

  • No audio on OneStep  DVD

Just installed iLife5 for the first time, so I don't really know the program yet but I tried making a DVD using the OneStep DVD. The video portion seems to be fine but there is no audio at all.
I'm also wondering if there is a way to choose the name the disc is given.
    Thanks for any help
    12" Power Book   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

To change the name of the DVD go to Project in the menu. Then Project Info. Change the name of the DVD on the first line next to Disk Name. That should change the name of the DVD.

  • IDvd - Onestep dvd from movie, not working?

I am trying to make a onestep dvd from movie - from an avi file... but every time I make one (I followed all the directions perfectly). It looks like it is burning and takes about 4  hrs. but nothing happens. it just says I have inserted a blank dvd. Why does this keep happening?

    Hi
    from an avi file
.avi is not the food for iDVD - it usually can not handle it at all.
.avi - is no codec but a container - so one must use another program to figure out what codec that's in there.
Then convert it to sometrhing iDVD can use.
My UN-Structured/sorted notes up till Yet ! (May be MANY Faulth ! be careful)
    AVCHD
    • need of Intel Mac and iMovie’08 or 09 or 11
    • can be converted to AIC via Voltaic
    Containers.
    .mov.
    .avi.
You can use MPEG-Streamclip to convert some of the AVI files so that QuickTime can play them
and then to streamingDV for iMovie.
    True file formats (?).
    .asf (from QuickTimeKirk)
Your product is based on Windows OS and the .asf files are designed for Windows Media Player.
Microsoft discontinued Mac support for Windows Media Player in 2003.
iv50 - old codec on window platform.
    • Open on a PC-Window with Microsoft Movie Maker.
    • Put into TimeLine
    • Save on ”this Computer” as .wmv
move over to Mac and open with QuickTime Pro and save as StreamingDV
(if Flip4Mac is payed then no Waterstamp and time limit)
    or
Open in FinalCut Pro as is = No  Waterstamp or time limit.
    Flip4Mac  -- //flip4mac.com
is third party software that "plays" most WMP formats via QuickTime Player. They also sell upgrades that allow conversion from WMP to QuickTime formats.
These upgrades are supported in iMovie version 6 but not for version 7 or 8 (iLife '08 and '09).
    So. What to do?
Purchase one of the Flip4Mac upgrades.
Copy the files from the SD card to your Mac and convert to QuickTime formats (DV Stream would work best).
Import the new .dv file into iMovie (any version).
    .dv
streaming DV    imports directly it is the same as from miniDV (tape) Camera
    .wmv
iMovie is by concept meant to work with miniDV camcorders . . any other 'imports' need a conversion or are not supported... a quick solution would be purchasing a plug-in from www.flip4mac.com, 49$, which allows the conversion of .wmv (a PC format) into something useful for iM (dv-stream) ...
or, ask the emailer to send it in some other codec .. mpg4 for example .. which will be converted by iM 'out-of-the-box' ...  and, to work with iM, the video should fulfill a few standards .. 720x480 pixel resolution, 30 frames per second ... otherwise, you will experience a dramatic loss of quality ..
    .mp4
container not to be mistaken for .mpeg4 which is a codec - and it’s most often could contain a H.264 encoded material (PS3 and AppleTV)

  • "Nothing Captured--Aborting OneStep DVD Creation"

I'm trying to use iDVD 6's OneStep DVD to convert Digital 8 tapes from a Sony camcorder directly to DVD. Sometimes this works flawlessly and other times I get the message that nothing was captured on the tape (although the tapes work fine) and that the process has been aborted. I can't understand the randomness of this error. Thanks for your help. mark

    Digital 8 tapes
Are you 100% sure that all the tapes are Digital 8 (DV)? Your camcorder will read Hi8 and 8mm analog tapes, and even convert them to "DV" for import into iMovie, but iDVD OneStep won't read in tapes being converted on the fly.
The other possibility is large breaks in the timecode.
Finally, I'm not a OneStep fan. Try iMovie's MagicMovie and then iDVDs Magic DVD for a two step process. At least if you have problems, you know where to start to find answers....

  • Onestep dvd help - only copying one section

I've successfully used onestep idvd to burn a disc from our camcorder. I put the 2nd dv tape in the camcorder, brought up onestep and first it gave me an error message (sorry, can't remember it) and then said it was aborting the process. Tried it again and it only copied the 1st section of my video, it stopped copying at the point where i turned the camera off and then back on again at a later time...the point where the blue screen comes up between footage. How do i tell onestep dvd to copy all the dv tape?
    Thanks

OneStep is looking for breaks to stop copying, and your break is too big. No way I know of to get OneStep to "skip" the timecode break. I suggest you import into iMovie, and then use OneStep like this:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/424.html
    or just use iMovie>iDVD normally........

  • Onestep DVD from Canopus ADCV-100

    Greetings,
I'm trying to burn DVD's from a Sony CCD-TRV22 Handicam (analog) thru a Canopus ADCV-100 and into my powerbook using iDVD. iMovie recognizes the Sony but when I try the Onestep DVD in iDVD it doesn't. I've been able to import to iMovie then share through the media browser. Trying to reduce the number of steps. Any ideas?

It does not require QT Pro. Player version will suffice and it works from pretty much any QT movie.

  • OneStep DVD from movie

Hello.  I just upgraded my MacBook Pro and I am now running OS 10.9.1  I am using iDVD 7.1.2.  Whenever I try to make a OneStep DVD from movie and I select the movie from my desktop, iDVD crashes.  It starts the encoding and a few seconds into it, a window pops up telling me that I inseerted a blank DVD and asks how I want to handle that.  When I make any selection, iDVD closes.  Please note that when I inserted the DVD earlier, it asked me how to handle the DVD and no matter what I choose, this window opens again for a second time after the encode starts.  Any ideas?  Thank you for any help.

How did you create the movie and what is its format?  How much free space do you have on your hard drive?
Does iDVD crash if you try to create a standard project, i.e. open, select a theme and go from there?
