Using online numbers

I want to use my Verizon phone in Germany to make business calls back to the US.
If I get a US online number, will Verizon treat my calls as local US calls?  Or will I be charged Verizon's international rate for being in Germany when I make the calls?
On the other hand, if I get a German online number, are calls to the US considered international and therefore subject to Sype rates?

Remember that Skype's Online Numbers do nothing for making calls to telephones (except that Online Numbers from some countries are usable as Caller ID when calling telephones from Skype).  You would still need to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription to use Skype for calling telephones.  Click on "Online number" below for more details on these numbers.
If you are not using your iPhone's Skype app on a WiFi connection, you will probably be liable for roaming charges from Verizon while in Germany.  This may not be a big deal if your office is picking up the tab for your foreign phone usage, but roaming charges - voice and data - while in Germany can be substantial. Remember that roaming data charges include the amounts of data sent by your phone to the Internet as well as data downloaded by your phone from the Internet.
First of all, I believe you would have to show that you are a German resident in order to get a German Online Number.  There is no residency requirement for US Online Numbers.  Numbers are available for most US states and area codes, but not for all states and area codes.  When logged into Skype, this would allow you to receive calls on that Online Number without paying Skype anything else.  If you are on WiFi, then you are also avoiding roaming data charges from Verizon.
Online Numbers have no effect on Skype's - or Verizon's - rates for calling from your phone.  If you use the phone itself, and not the Skype app, then you will be billed by Verizon for those calls.  If you use the Skype app while on a German mobile network, you would be charged by Verizon for the data usage to make that call.  Skype would either charge you for the call at its per-call rates, or you would have to purchase a subscription to cover the call - for example, the Unlimited USA & Canada subscription at US$ 2.99/month or the Unlimited World subscription.  Using your iPhone on WiFi would keep Verizon out of the picture, and you would still need either Skype Credit or a subscription to call telephones using Skype.
All of Skype's rates - either paying per call (click on "Pay As You Go" below for those details) or with a subscription (click on "Subscriptions" below) - are based on the destination of your calls.  Your location when making those calls is irrelevant.  Skype would charge the same amount to call a US phone number, whether you are in the US, Germany, or anywhere else using Skype.

  • Can I have 2 Online numbers on one account?

    Hi,
I'm already using an online number for my account. I'd like to use a second online number for a home business that I'm starting. How will that work having 2 online numbers on the same account? When Skype rings, will it tell me which number was dialed? How do I switch between the two when making outbound calls?

You can have up to 10 Online Numbers on a single Skype account.
When you receive an incoming call to your Skype program or app, the program/app won't tell you which Online Number received the call.  It will either show you the Caller ID number of the phone calling you (if that information is available), or you'll see a Skype name if the call was made directly to your Skype account name.
Online Numbers do nothing for making phone calls from Skype, except that some can be used as Caller ID when you call telephones from your Skype account.  You would still need to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription in order to call telephones.  Depending on where your Online Numbers are from, you can choose to use them as your Caller ID when calling telephones.  Not all Online Numbers can be used this way.  You can choose to use a single number for Caller ID when calling all telephones, or - if your numbers are in different countries - you can use certain numbers when calling certain destinations.  For example, I have numbers from the US and the UK that can be used as Caller ID.  When calling UK phones, my UK number is used as the Caller ID number.  When calling anywhere else, I use my US number. You can log into your Skype account through this web site and make changes to the Caller ID settings.
If you don't want to make changes to your Caller ID settings all the time when calling telephones, to have different numbers show up on the phones you call, one option may be to use separate Skype accounts for each Online Number.  This would mean that, for calling telephones, you would have to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription for each of those accounts.  But you would be able to have some idea where the calls are coming from, and you can control what shows up as Caller ID easier if you use each account for different purposes.
For more information about all of this, you can click on links below: "Online Number", "Caller ID", "Pay As You Go", and "Subscriptions".

  • Multiple online numbers to one account?

I am wondering if it is possible to have a bunch of online numbers directed to a single Skype account.
For example, I'd like a UK number, and Australian number, and a US number, but I'd like them all to "point" to the same skype ID.
    Is this possible?

    Hello Bruce_zhao ,
Although a Skype Client can be set to have more than one online number associated with it.  That scenario has a major drawback, namely it can only connect with one call at a time.
A solution for your issue can be found by using a PBX with Skype Manager and Skype Connect.  For clarification, a PBX is simply a phone system what will allow you to connect to more than one phone line at a time.  I am going to give you a couple links that should answer most of your questions on the two products I've mentioned above.
    Here they are:

  • Question about Online Numbers

Hello I have a big question before purchasing my online number:
I live in Toronto, Canada and my family is in Argentina.
Online numbers are not available for these 2 countries.
    my question is:
Can i purchase an US online number for my family to call from argentina and pay international rate (as if calling to US)?
or  Does this only work if the people are calling to a local number?
They want to be in touch with me and they dont care if they have to pay as international call.  Thank you

I think this was answered in another thread earlier today:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Online-Number/Why-online-numbers-are-available-just-for-a-few-countrie...
Getting an Online Number closer to your family in Argentina, like a number from Chile, may be a good option for cheaper international calling from Argentina compared to calling a US number.  Or get them to use Skype.
    Good luck!

  • Online numbers not available in Tasmania Australia...

Many areas are available in Australia but apparently none in Tasmania where area codes are 0362, 0363 and 0364, the first of which is for the capitalcity and southern area of the state.
Is Tasmania likely to get this facility any time soon?

Unfortunately, the answer may be "no".  Since Skype doesn't tend to give lots of advance notice when new areas are available for Online Numbers, you may want to bookmark the "Online Number" link below and periodically check on it.  Tasmania is like Alaska, Hawaii, and a few other places on the US mainland that don't have Online Numbers.  Maybe in the future, but not now....

You can't do that.  With the two numbers on the same Skype account, you can't set different destinations for forwarding calls on those numbers.
If you wanted to have separate call-forwarding settings for your Online Numbers, you would need to have each Online Number on its own Skype account.  This means that, for forwarding to telephones, you would need to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription for each of those accounts.

  • Unallocated online numbers

I got this account..lets call it..  the bleh skype account.. I allocated an unlimited subscription to this account then it should expire in April...and so when April comes in I deleted this account so that it will not charge me again. Later, Ive known that this account has been renewed without receiving any email notification from skype. They charged me another $19.92 for a three month subscription and yet I thought it has expired already. I am requesting for a refund now but until now it has not been resolved yet.... I did not renewed this account. I've wasted $19.92 without even using it, without any notification that this  is expiring and that they renewed it.
Second, I asked for a chat support to help me fix an issue with an unallocated online numbers. Unallocated online numbers should never be renewed, they are of no use...I cannot even delete unallocated numbers, but I saw in the report that they charged me $12.05 to unallocated number that they have renewed, worse part is they charged me twice so it made $24.1 for just one online number. I am now asking for a refund and the customer support is just so terrible, they are saying the rule is they cannot issue a refund once the subscription has been allocated. Just look at this situation, should I not receive a refund even if they charged me twice in just one online number?renewed a subscription without sending any notification?where is justoce in this, I would say skype support should be changed..You are a service provider that is well known and yet you can't even provide even a single number for us to call or even a single email address? schat support sucks!

Is there a way to actually contact support since it seems the forums are not read?  Or do I have to abuse my position as a Microsoft consultant to go above the heads of the support team and forward my issue straight to a director?

Except for a very few countries where you can receive an SMS message at a landline number (someone mentioned Germany as an example, somewhere else in these forums), you are not able to have a landline number show up as your Caller ID when calling from Skype. You are generally limited to using certain Skype Online Numbers or a mobile number that passes the SMS verification process, and that's it for Caller ID with Skype.
    Sorry!

If the two Online Numbers are on the same Skype account, you can't forward them to different destinations.  You can set up Skype to forward calls to multiple numbers, where all of those numbers ring simultaneously, but there is no provision to route your Online Numbers to different phone numbers.
To do what you may be looking for, you would have to set up separate Skype accounts, each with an Online Number.  Then you can point them to different phone numbers without a problem.  Other than keeping track of two Skype accounts instead of one, it doesn't cost you any more to do this.

  • Can I have 2 online numbers from 2 different count...

Basically the subject is self explanatory:
Can I have 2 online numbers from 2 different countries on 1 Skype account?

You should be able to do this.  You'll have to have separate Apple IDs and it would require to go to
Settings > iTunes and App Store
    Tap your Apple ID
    Sign Out
Then Sign in with the ID you use in that country.  You will neeed a valid credit card in each country.

  • Business nand Personal online numbers

    Hi
I have two online numbers one i use for home calls and one i want to use for Business, how do i get the answer phone or the redirect option to seperate the numbers?
    Richard
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello mbandm 1,
I see you have 2 numbers.  One is Personal and the other you want to use for Business.  We are going to need more information or a senario on how you want to use them.
(Note: the Personal Number cannot be used in a Skype Business account).
1st:   Is the Personal number within your Skype Personal account?
2nd:  Is the Skype Business number in a Skype Connect or SIP profile?
3rd:  What type of PBX or SIP device are you using?
If you have a SIP enabled phone, you could create 2 SIP profiles, Purchase 2 Channels, and target each one to 2 different lines on the multiline set.
If you have PBX, you could create 2 SIP profiles, purchase 2 Channels, and target each Channel to Trunks in the PBX to receive calls.
I hope this helps you finding answers to your questions about Personal and Business numbers.

If you want to use different Online Numbers for different purposes (i.e., different voicemails for each number, or different call-forwarding settings for each number), you would want to create separate Skype accounts for each Online Number.  Then you would have access to a separate voicemail and call-forwarding settings for each number.  If you wanted to forward calls from each of those Skype accounts to different telephone numbers, you would need to purchase Skype Credit or a subscription for each of those accounts.
With a single Skype account, all Online Numbers on an account share the same voicemail and call-forwarding settings.  You can have up to 10 Online Numbers on a single Skype account, and for individuals this may be adequate.  For businesses, or for people who just want the flexibility of controlling each Online Number, this is where the number needs to be on its own account.
