Using OPatch for OIM patches - do you need write privs to ORACLE_HOME

We are in the process of installing OIM and have reached the post configuration step, which requires us to install a patch.

We are in a separate group that the DBA team and we dont have write privs to ORACLE_HOME. Can you run opatch as user id X when ORACLE_HOME is owned by user id Y.
Also, when we installed WL + SOA + OIM, we were prompted for a oracle inventory location and opted to use the local inventory. I tried: "opatch lsinventory -invPtrLoc /<local-inventory-loc>" but that too failed.
Any ideas?

I could upgrade to OIM 11.1.1.5 but that is only pushing out the problem. The real question is how does one patch Oracle Fusion middleware products?
Since I was able to install WL+SOA+OIM using an id X, I should be able to patch the same software using the same unix id X. But it fails. opatch obviously is a tool that was designed to patch Oracle database software and it almost seems like it is assumed that whoever is running it has read/write access to $ORACLE_HOME. These are not valid requirements for a server that only hosts fusion middleware. Infact, we dont even need the Oracle client to install fusion middleware.
Has anyone been able to run opatch on a server that either does not have a ORACLE_HOME, or the Oracle client is installed but the user executing opatch does not have write access to $ORACLE_HOME.

Well, on 6/20/2013 we had the TV down; it was said to be a piece of video equipment that went down. We could not get anything on the TV until next day. The sad part is that we were watching the Heat-Spurs game and it quit just 1min-36sec. prior to the end of the game. Then, we could not watch our daily Netflix show we watch every evening before going to bed. So in calling twice, we found out about the video equipment problem. But typically Verizon, they replaced the equipment and thought nothing about the customer that actually lost the reception!! How about crediting us for the time "off the air". You can't have the cake and eat it too. Then, Verizon sends us emails about the bill, customer service, etc. but there is no way for us to email them back!! Why do they think my time is less valuable then theirs; having to call their customer service and to wait a long time for answer by someone in "God knows where country". What does that tell you about the customer service commitment! It's like, yeah you are one of the slob users that keep paying the bills for lousy service. Perhaps it's time for all of us to switch off our TV's for one or two days a week and not pay them for "our time off the grid". Having some couple of thousand TV's off twice a week may shake them up a bit. So here is my idea. Establish an email address where we can reach anyone in customer service directly, in our own state, not somewhere 1000 and more miles away. Additionally, if something is down, does not matter what time of the day, stand up for it and give the customer their credit due. Thanks for reading

It all depends how you use it.
Once the initial break in period is over, like the first year, it should run just fine as long as you don't abuse it, don't let it overheat, keep the dust out etc.
Do get the AppleCare as it's very expensive to repair a Mac.
Some tips:
1: Avoid using the built in keyboard and trackpad as much as possible. I know what's the use, but it's these too area's, the USB ports and the Superdrive that experience the most wear and tear.
2: If you do use the built in keyboard, take off your watch and jewelry, it scratches. mars, reacts with the case and discolors it.
3: The keybord is a bit weak compared to regular PC desktop keyboards, so use a wireless one, but have a wired one around for emergencies. The keyboard collects dirt, grime, hair, dust etc, underneath, you might want to have a light cover over the keys but still let air get underneath.
4: Be gentle with the audio ports and the Superdrive, don't use your computer for watching DVD's. The Superdrive is important for recovering the machine with the installer disk which also must be well taken care of.
5: A GOOD case, like a MacTruck or a padded one will absorb the shocks if dropped while transporting.
6: The biggest concern is other people, they just don't handle things with care because it's not theirs and they are ignorant or even spiteful of the money you spent to have a quality machine.
7: Clone your boot drive to a external regularly, in fact have two, one staggered back in time a few weeks, it's hold option bootable in case your hard drive dies. Free cloning software like Carbon Copy Cloner or the commercial version Superduper does the job well.

If RuneScape uses Java 3D why don't you need to install it?

I was just wondering if RuneScape uses Java 3D, why doesn't anyone need to install it? Is it because the game is intirely server side and all the graphics and stuff is done over on their servers and not on your own computer? Thanks.

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it, including its automatic update mechanism (if any) according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise, install Java.

On settings if you activate use iCloud for Pages, then when you try to open Pages (on both iphone 5 and iPad3) the program quits instantly.

Pages does not work properly if you choose to use ICloud in Settings in both the iphone 5 and Ipad 3. In fact when you click open, Pages opens momentarily and then Quits. If you de-activate use ICloud for pages in Settings then the program works but you cannot access icloud.

Thanks David for your suggestion. However I tried this before I submitted my problem but to no avail. I think the problem could be in iCloud interface with Pages! Hope apple would look into this soon!

The answer is NO you don't have to write with clause AT ALL.
with clause is create temp table on the fly.

select * from tempTable;If you have created the Table,you do NOT have to write with clause like above.
therefore you can write like below.

He never mentioned Global Temporary Tables.
He was saying that the subquery factoring clause is used in answers on the forum where people are temporarily creating the data for the purposes of the answer, rather than create a real table. hello hernandm, you can use the method described in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences to deploy certain settings.

Can OIM Use OUD for the Repository

I am confused after reading many Oracle docs. Today we use OIM with OID. It seems that Oracle is moving towards OUD as the sole directory after they integrate OVD into OUD. We are ready to install OIAM Suite Plus 11g R2. We currently have OIAM Suite Plus sing OID and OVD. Can we use OUD as the OIM respository or do we still have to use OID as well for OIM? .

Opatch for Oracle 10.2.0.4 on Windows NT_I386

We have some SAP systems running with Oracle release 10.2.0.2 on Windows NT_I386
First of all we upgraded these systems to the oracle version 10.2.0.4 with Oracle Assistant.
After this we installed Opatch 5.
Now we installed Patch collection 30 (10204_Patch30_WIN32.zip (Patch: 9169457)
Question:
Do we need to apply also Patch 27? ( 10204_Patch27_WIN32.zip (Patch: 8932174))
Or does the Patch 30 contain Patch 27 (is cumulative)?

Bundle patch (Windows)
This is a patch collection to correct several errors (this is also known as a "patch collection" inthe SAP environment).
You must use OPatch to apply it.
You can apply only one Windows bundle patch at a time. You may also be able to apply generic patches inaddition to the bundle patch (see the "Generic patch" section).
When you apply a bundle patch, the Oracle version changes (from 10.2.0.4.17 to 10.2.0.4.18). You can use DBA_REGISTRY_HISTORYto determine which bundle patch has been applied.
Windows bundle patches are cumulative (that is, bundle patch 18 also contains all of the corrections from bundle patch 17 and the current CPU).

I am a new DB administrator and I have faced a problem in our database.
Here i will explain our architecture and i will state the problem.
In my org. we have database server responsible for keeping the DB itself. Another server which is the main server is responible to control the access to the network and making and storing DB backups using a third party software (Net Backup Software). The backups are kept in tapes accessed by main server using tapes robot.
Our backup policies is that the software makes full backup every week and a incremental dialy backups of the DB. The retention of each backup is two weeks. All servers have been shutted down during vacations.
The problem is that when we came from two weeks vacation, users found that the DB is in old state and we lost the most recent valid state. I tried all my best since month ago to do recovery. I decided the point of time to restore and I also use the SCNs but I could'nt reach a solution. I used Net backup, Rman, EM but without a result.
When i check NetBackup console I find a backup available since 28 of July 2010. Actually the changes are made after this date and now the DB state is older thatn this date. the question is: WHER HAVE THE CONSEQUENT CHANGES GONE? around one mounth of work has been lost..

Your BACKUP script does set the NetBackup parameters for the Tape Channels.
However, your RESTORE script does not specify the NetBackup parameters -- so Oracle doesn't know which channel to use for the Restore.
You need to add the NetBackup parameters in the RESTORE.
However, this is suprising :
The problem is that when we came from two weeks vacation, users found that the DB is in old state and we lost the most recent valid stateA database will NOT EVER "go back to an old state" until and unless someone has restored an old backup. If the servers were shutdown for two weeks, who would have restored the database. If the servers were shutdown, how would Oracle have automatically gone back to an old stats ? There must have been some manual actions.
