Using ops$ accounts with Database Access Descriptors

Hi, I have installed and configured the Photo Album demo under 9i on Windows 2000 with no problems. I wish to use the operating system via oracle ops$ accounts to provide access to the Db through the Database Access Descriptor using the Gateway Database Access Descriptor Configuration tool. While the ops$ accounts I have configured work as expected under sqlplus, i.e. I am able to login to the Db without manually supplying a username and password e.g. sqlplus / , there does not seem to be a way of configuring the DAD to accept ops$ accounts for access to the photo album demo. Please can anyone confirm this to be the case and/ or provide an alternative solution. Kind regards.

I am pretty sure if you specify a DB username and password in dads.conf, you will not need to log in. Also, there is a tool to encrypt the password so it is not in clear text in the config file.
From the dads.README For 10:
- One or more mod_plsql specific directives. For example:
PlsqlDatabaseUsername scott
PlsqlDatabasePassword tiger
PlsqlDatabaseConnectString orcl
PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
I am on 10 now, so I don't personally know if it the same on 9. I don't use the DADs tool either, but you should be able to set a username/password for the dad so that there is not a need to login.
It would be best to ask in the HTMLDB forum, they would know better.

Servlet with Database Access!!!

I have deployed HelloServlet with Oracle Application Server 4.0.8.1.
Now I want to connect from Servlet to Oracle8i 8.1.5.
But, when I try to deploy a Servlet with Database Access, I receive the next:
"Get operation not allowed"
The URL used is:
http://host.domain:port/virtual_path/class_name
The servlet was compiled using the Sun's jdk from command line. There wasn't compilation errors.
I run a simple application with database access from command line without problems.
The drivers and JDBC libraries are operating for this simple application.
Any help will be appreciated.

If you are running OAS 4.0.8.1 and Oracle 8.1.5 on the same machine then this could be the problem. These products are not certified to run on the same machine as they give a path conflict.

I put in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/htdocs a php pages for test if this OAS versión supported php.
The test is ok, this versión support PHP, but not are configured to PHP with database access.
My question is: How I configure this OAS 10.1.2.0.2 to use PHP with database access?
I need install all PHP although my php pages is running (without database access) ??? or I only need configure database access?

I am trying to figure out how to create a DAD (database access descriptor) so I can access my pl/sql server pages which are installed on my oracleXe database.
I have searched the docs and this forum and OTN but haven't found any information on how to do this.

Open the latest version of iTunes.
Choose Store > Sign In from the Store menu.
Enter your Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

Thank you for your question. I understand that there are two devices that are logged into the Sync account. However the Android is not syncing.
There are two places we can check:
# In the Android Settings, under accounts is the attached account Firefox Sync or Firefox Sync (deprecated)?
# Do the login credentials work on accounts.firefox.com on the mobile device and are there any error messages on the Sync menu from Settings > Sync?

It sounds like you're both syncing with the same computer log-in so the sync mechanism thinks that you're one person. You need to set up separate computer log-ins so that you have separate iTunes operation.

Can I use Web Services with Microsoft Access?

I'm somewhat handy with Microsoft Access (2003 in particular), but not an expert. Macros? No problem. VBA? I'd be hard pressed to code anything from scratch, but I'm not too bad with modifying code/examples to fit my particular scenario. So, if anything about this doesn't ring quite right, now you'll know why. Some years ago I worked with another guy to develop a module that used REST(?) to query some web services at Yahoo!. If that worked, I was hoping that I could do similar things with CRMOD I was thinking, for example, I might want to get the Opportunity Sales Stage for a number of records. And since there are tools for Excel and Word, I thought Access might work, too. As a starting point, I imagine I need to use the Web Services Toolkit for Office 2003. But frankly, I don't even know where to go beyond that.
Am I wasting my time? Any suggestions for an intro to web services?

Convergence - Using External Accounts with POP/SSL

Using Convergence v. 1.0-10.01
I'm trying to use the External Accounts feature of Convergence for a POP account requiring SSL.
The POP logs on the Sun messaging server hosting the external account show:

I'm also unable to get it to POP from a Gmail account.
The Convergence pop-up error shows:
A error has been encountered while fetching the message for [email protected] account. Please check your server settings.
POP3 communication failure
This feature does not seem to work in either our local Convergence or from the commsuite.demo.sun.com site.
Any ideas?

Can you clarify what I should look for on the Convergence zone and on the MMP zone that is hosting the "external account"?
To be sure, the "external account" can be accessed via POP w/SSL using a client. Also, I am accessing the convergence client through https.

But as a sidenote, the Database access would really be no different from any standard JDBC calls to connect to and query the database.

Cannot send email in mail app. using POP account with Wi-Fi

I recently moved to an apartment that only has wireless internet access. Since moving I cannot send email using my POP account, although I can receive email. I was also not able to receive email using my .mac account, but I learned through this forum to change server port to 587 in .mac account and now I can send via .mac account in mail app. But I still cannot sent email with mail app. using my POP account. I changed no settings when I moved, and have never had this problem with cable. Any suggestions?

It all depends on the policy of whoever is the ISP at your new location and the method used by the outgoing (SMTP) server to determine whether you’re a legitimate user.
In an attempt to fight spam, many ISPs restrict the ability to send using an outgoing (SMTP) server not owned by them, usually by blocking port 25 for all traffic outside their own network, which means you cannot send with an SMTP server not owned by them if configured to use that port number. And it may happen the other way around as well, i.e. the outgoing server itself may look at the IP address you’re connecting from and refuse the connection if you’re outside its own network.
Something that often works is changing the outgoing server port to 587 (or whatever alternate port number the outgoing server listens to) instead of 25 and using some form of authentication in Preferences > Accounts > Account Information > Outgoing Mail Server > Server Settings, but two conditions must be satisfied for this change to work: (1) the ISP must not block that port as well AND (2) the outgoing server in question must listen to that port and accept a form of authentication not based on the IP address you’re connecting from.
Independent mail service providers not tied to a particular ISP, such as .Mac and Gmail, do allow authenticated SMTP access on port 587, which is the reason changing the outgoing server port number solves the problem for them if the ISP doesn’t block that port as well.
The following article, for example, describes several ways to address this issue in the case of .Mac, but can be useful for other mail accounts as well (not just .Mac), and applies to all versions of Mac OS X (not just Mac OS X 10.4.2 and earlier as the article states):

How to change my icloud account to a new email account that i own.
I have access to the Apple ID Account but i dont have access to the iCloud account in it.
The Security Question was made by the tech admin of the company not by me, so not even that way its possible.

I wish Apple improves this Security measures so that it lets remove features with both logins, Apple or iCloud credentials.
Also the iCloud needs improvements, it should use the Apple ID not some other different login. The email part of icloud should be in iCloud but most people don't use iCloud mail so the rest of the features should be in the same email credentials as Apple ID.
This way im not sure if i take the risk on Restoring the iPad, i could end up beeing locked out of my own device.
All this hierarchic credentials are confusing. I would only need the Apple ID that is being used on the iPad to clean it up or turn off options like iCloud account currently on the device.
