Using optical S/PDIF input on Digi002

Hi
I wanna use the optical in on my Digi002 for my CD player, but can't get it to work. I use Logic pro 8.01

Looks like others are having success. Try trashing the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist
And restart. See if that fixes anything.

  • Using optical mice as input devices

    Hi,
I'm doing a robotics research project, looking at the possibility of using optical mouse-style CMOS sensors for motion tracking. To this end, I'm building a simple machine with LEGO Mindstorms, and I intend to attach two optical mice to this and feed their output into LabView.
Ideally, I'd like to plug both mice into USB ports. Can anyone help me with these two problems?
    1. How to get input from two mice simultaneously? i.e. how to differentiate between them.
    2. How to have LabView process USB input? I imagine there will be an ActiveX control for them (which leads back to question 1...)
    Thanks for your help. Yours,
    Gareth.

You are going to conflict with the OS mouse driver. The OS will detect
the USB mouse and install a driver for it and you won't be able to get
your arms around that. Why don't you use two PS/2 mice with serial
converter plugs? That way you just use COM ports and the mouse protocol
is well known. If you go USB I think you will spend all of your time
dicking around trying to force it to do something it wasn't designed to
do. The real problem is that there is only one cursor so you won't be
    able to differentiate positioning inputs.
Otherwise, hook up two USB mice, glue the right button down on one and
see if you can distiguish button down moves from button up moves
    (probably won't work.)

  • Creative Sound Blaster ZxR Optical s/pDIF Surround Recording

I just downloaded and installed Audacity for Windows version 2.x.x (the latest Audacity version).
I'm recording my xbox 360 game play sound and possibly some OTA Antenna receiver Dolby 5.1 Surround through a Toslink optical cable input on the daughter card of the SB ZxR sound card.
I'm using an Intel Core i7 2600 in an Asus p8p67 deluxe running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 using the Creative Labs Sound Blaster ZxR.
It works fine for Xbox 360 dashboard System Settings, Console, Digital Audio, set to Stereo (2 channel sound), but does not when xb360 is set for Dolby Digital 5.1 output since the Audacity drop down list box for the recording device has only the options for Stereo or Mono--even when 5.1 Surround is being output by the xb360.
When the incoming audio stream of 5.1 surround is recorded by audacity, the sampled sound is a huge amount of loud almost white noise of random digital static sound.
What audio device capabilities enumeration is being used to determine if incoming AC3 multichannel digital optical signals are more than stereo since this stream could, in theory, change on the fly depending on the program material being sent by the source device?
Is this the fault of the sound card driver from Creative Labs and is being reported improperly to MS Windows intermediate level device driver layers, that are in turn reported to audacity in its enumeration of the device's input stream contents?
To see the physical appearance of the Creative Labs Sound Blaster ZxR DBpro daughter card with its gray output Toslink female socket and its black input Toslink socket, do a Google image search as follows:
"sound blaster zxr" optical in dbpro "daughter card"
    http://goo.gl/ewO6ha
Is there any way to circumvent this sad state of affairs as a temporary work around for this problem with an interim software source code revision?
Could a software layer or function be added in audacity to parse the incoming data stream to determine the streams' characteristics (possibly on the fly -- in real time)?
When in the Creative Labs SB ZxR software control for mixer, etc, I have the settings for the card sometimes set to "listen to this device" for the Optical Toslink input port, and the sound coming out of the Speaker Outputs does not get sent to the Optical Output Toslink port to go to my Dolby digital audio receiver--my default Windows sound device--so that I cannot hear any of the supposed input audio stream at all.
Why is this effective pass through functionality not working?
I have two or more Hauppauge ComputerWorks High Definition Video capture devices with Toslink optical inputs, and they work fine to capture higher level multichannel AC3 optical streams.
What is wrong with the Creative Labs Soundblaster ZxR recording capability for such streams?
Can the driver be updated to fix these problems?
I have posted a few hours ago on the Audacity software's web forums to see if anyone there has any answers as to what can be done and what is happening and what is at fault in this process...
    http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewto...p?f=46&t=84846

I noticed the following when I more closely examined the SB ZxR Mixer settings...
The Toslink / optical s/pDIF input levels, even when an AC3 surround 5.1 channel stream is being input displays level control sliders for only Left and Right channels, when there should be 6 channels.
Creative Labs Dolby is improperly being handled within both their driver and application software for the sound card, or the card itself is designed NOT to handle properly multichannel AC3 in a dynamic fashion as provided by the source optical device.
    Why?

  • Recording via Optical S/PDIF on Windows XP with Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I am using a new Macbook Pro with OS X 10.6 and XP (SP3). I am using optical S/PDIF to carry the signal from an Apogee Rosetta 200 Analog to Digital audio converter to the computer. I get signal from the converter on the Mac side, with Logic Pro 8, but am not getting any audio on the Windows side with any of my audio recording programs. Is the optical I/O on the Macbook supported in Windows on Bootcamp? What do I need to do to get it working properly?
    Thanks,
    Melissa

  • How do I use optical input for recording in Garageband 9?

    Hi,
I'm trying to use the Optical Line Input on my G5 for recording in Garageband, using a MOTU 828. I have the 828 optical output connected to the optical audio input on the G5, and I have Digital In (Optical digital-in port) selected in system preferences/sound. But in Garageband preferences, optical or digital input is not among my choices. If I select system setting or built-in audio 2, I get no signal. If I select MOTU 828, it defaults to the analog master outputs on the 828.
I am a Logic 8 user, and I'm able to select the optical input in Logic with no problem. I have my MOTU audio setup set so that the optical output is the default output, but Garageband still seems to use the analog output. I can tell by the record level, which is considerably louder for analog than for optical.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is it possible to have 5.1 S/PDIF input from the pins of Audigy 2 ZS SB0350?

LIs it possible to have 5. S/PDIF input from the pins of Audigy 2 ZS SB0350? Hello,
I took this sound card (Audigy 2 ZS SB0350) yesterday from a friend, just to test whether it can do what I intend to use it for. It is only the card itself without the front panel (the I/O Dri've Bay) and I want to connect a satellite receiver's S/PDIF output to the sound card input in order to experience a 5. sound, which my satellite receiver supports. Since it turned out that this sound card has no digital inputs but on the front panel (the I/O Dri've Bay), I started wondering whether I can connect the coaxial digital out of the satellite receiver directly to some of the pins of the Audigy 2 ZS, and in case I can do that, will I have the desired 5. sound on the analogue outputs of the sound card or just stereo?
If this is impossible, can you confirm that if I buy Audigy 2 Platinum (with I/O Dri've front panel) I can have the desired effect (no matter if the output of the satellite receiver is coaxial or optical)?
    Thank you for your answer
    Best regards,
    Zdravko

  • Sound blaster Z with no sound from Optical S/PDIF output

    Hi,
I'm trying to record music from a Denon DTR-2000 Digital Audio Tape deck. I have connected a optical S/PDIF cable from Optical Out on the DAT player to the Optical In on the sound card but I'm not hearing any sound.
I've also tried with a CD/DVD player using optical out and still no sound.
My only concern is that whilst there is a definite click when the TOSLINK cable is plugged into the CD/DVD player it doesn't seen particularly well connected in the sound card.
If I start Smart Recorder with Source as Digital-In (SoundBlaster Z) and press Analyse there is no movement in the sound level bars. Presumably there should be.
Hope you can offer some help please.

Just to clear this up. The original cable was fine but the quality of the connectors left a lot to be desired. The plugs needed to be pushed in quite forcibly.

  • Does anyone use Optical Audio out to connect studio monitors?

I am planning to snatch a Mac Mini as my studio upgrade. I am also planning on buying some studio monitors (as opposed to just regular speakers). I was wondering what people use to get great, accurate results for under $600. The Mini can achieve optical audio out, apparently. Are there studio monitors that use digital, optical audio as a means to connect? How do fellow Logic home studio users have their audio out set up?

    Scroto Saggins wrote:
well, optical is digital (right?), so wouldnt it be the only way to get the best, uncolored sound out of a Mac? what other (better) options are there? I started this topic because I dont really notice studio monitors that use optical, and I am wondering why? Whats the downside?
Because the ones that do, are way over the budget of most people on this forum.
    I have this pair :

They retail at around 1500 per pair. They are not the most expensive ones out there, rather the less expensive ones with digital inputs.

  • Optical digital audio input port on MacBook Pro

I believe that the optical digital audio inputs on the latest MacBook Pros are defective. I am not sure if the problem is with the hardware or the software.
I use two analog-to-digital converters in my recording studio: the Grace Design Lunatec V3, and the Mytek Stereo96 ADC. Both produce a SPDIF stereo signal with a Toslink output port. I use a Toslink cable with the required 3.5mm adapter.
Both of these converters work perfectly with my 24" iMac. In mid-December of 2009, I got a 15" MacBook Pro. There was difficulty getting the MacBook Pro to recognize a signal from either converter, and when the signal was recognized, the recordings were crackly, pitch-shifted, off-speed, and sometimes parts of the recording would get repeated. All of the settings were adjusted, including the bit-rate and sampling frequency, as well as the Audio Resolution (in both Garage Band and Twisted Wave).
I took the MacBook Pro to the Apple Store, and was very pleased with the service there. My MacBook Pro was replaced with a new one. However, when I brought the new MacBook Pro into my studio, there were the same problems.
At the encouragement of a technician at Apple Care, last weekend I brought one of my converters (the Lunatec V3) to the local Apple Store and made recordings on a number of their machines. The results:
Perfect recordings on the 27" iMac and the Mac Pro. This is in addition to my own 24" iMac.
The same problems - dropped connection, crackly noise, shifts in pitch, and repeated phrases - in two 17" MacBook Pros and one 15" MacBook Pro. This is in addition to the two 15" MacBook Pros that I have tried at home.
I have a case number with Apple Care, but haven't heard back from anyone in a week. I am thinking of just returning the MacBook Pro, but it is a very nice machine in every other way.
Is this an acknowledged problem at Apple, and can a fix be expected?
    Thanks,
    Mike

What a great job! I've been enjoying making very amateur "audiobooks" for a young grand-daughter recently (simply using a USB mike plugged into one of the MBPs) and emailing her mother the results. Its a great way of remembering old childhood favourites and inflicting them on (whoops, I mean 'enhancing the education of" ) the next generation. Very amateur, but she really enjoys them, I gather. Doing it for real must actually be quite a buzz.
A couple more passing thoughts on the original topic. I guess you will have worked through such things, but does it make any difference whether the MBP is running from power or from battery? The "power in" section of the MBP is located pretty close to the optical port circuitry and might contribute to interference, I guess.
Another possibility might even relate to the proximity of the Mac power adaptor or the computer itself to the other equipment. Have you tried hooking it up to different power outlets, increasing distance between the power block or the computer and the other gear, introducing some shielding, etc etc.
Finally, there can be an issue in which residual current occurs on the body of the MBP itself when it is hooked up using the "duckhead" unearthed powerplug rather than the three prong earthed power lead. I would imagine this, too, could interfere with sensitive gear. (just thoughts from an old audio buff).

  • Does the SPIF output on U330 use optical or coaxial cable?

Many thanks.  I can't find the similar in stores, otherwise I can try them out myself.

    vps wrote:
    You can use both
But I would recommend you to buy and use Optical, it's simple. The best one is the optical link with 3.5mm head and the last connector is normal optical head.
If you want to use it with coxial, you will have to buy RVC
Thank you for the advice, and I ordered the cable like you recommended,  however i still couldnt get surround sound to work.
I select the right playback device, however there is no red light coming out from the cable.
I am wondering is it my cable's fault, do I need to get a 6ft instead of 12 ft, or is it a sound driver issue.
I couldn't find any info on Lenovo documents, so I really appreciate your inputs.

  • PO creation using LSMW through batch input method

Hi, I am new to working with LSMW and i have completed a project for creating purchase orders using the direct data input method. I need to do the same using batch input method, however in the maintain structure relationship step, it is only allowing me to assign one structure to the recording that i have done, however in po creation we need separate (nested) structure for header and line item, could anybody help me past this please?

    Hi Rudra!
OK, now you just know, why you have only one line, not multiple PO item lines. To get a dynamic number of items, you need a complex program - just like standard direct input.
If you need a field, which is not part of this program, don't try to write your own program for batch input - it's just to much work before you have a good result.
You can use Bapi method instead with BAPI_PO_CREATE1. This can handle a lot of fields and there is some documentation available how to fill the Bapi.
If this looks to complicated in the first moment, think about creation of POs via direct input and a small batch recording to change your additional field(s) afterwards. (You can select EKPO table to generate list of 'wrong' migrated orders for input in LSMW.) Use field 'Item' in the bottom of ME22 to position your desired line in first screen line, just change one PO-line after one other (every time a 'save' -> no problem with different number of lines / PO).

    Christian

  • Using more than one input device at the same time

Is it possible to use more than one input device at the saem time in logic express. For example I have a fire wire input device and a usb input device can I get Express to recognize both of these at once and so have a total of 4 ins which would be great since Im transfering tracks off my ADAT and it would be less track to have to line up.
    Thanks

    Hi,
yes, it should be possible by creating an aggregate device. Google for it or search this forum. There are many tutorials how to set it up.
    Have fun!

  • Connecting apple tv2 to a projector, but need to use optical from apple tv to connect to something, to get sound.. What do I buy

Ive got an apple tv, and a new hd projecter. I've now got a huge lovely picture on the wall, but I've zero sound.... The projector has no output for sound, and is conected by hdmi...which leaves me with one option. Using the optical out from apple tv, now i have no idea.  Will this optical output work when hdmi is sending sound to projector ?  What I need is the best option to use optical out.. I would have prefered a simple phono out, and then I can plug into a big active speaker im using in the room, I owne nothing with optical connections... So what do buy ?  Ric

Ok,  I will ask the question in another way... My apple tv has one hdmi, and it goes to my hd projecter.. But projecter has no speakers, and as a result I've no sound at the moment. I am looking for a clear direction to go in, to solve lack the of any sound.. My only option seems to be, using the optical out from the apple tv.. I don't have  any equipment with this conecter. And I've never used optical before..   If i buy an, optical to twin phono converter and then I can plug into a large powered speaker I've got in my living room. And I will have big sound easily..?? Do I have any other reasonable options for optical enabled speakers, or AirPlay speakers or something simple I'm not aware of that will give me sound easily.. I don't want a messy 5:1 system, my house is very tidy, and I want to keep it that way. .  Only having this optical out is frustrating, and I need to get my head round the options I have.   Anyone understand from experience how to use the optical apple tv out.  Also, not  using anything but apple tv, no dvds, or tv , just apple tv and my ipad.. Is very quiet in my home right now though.  Ric

  • Dreamplug, 16 bit DAC, relevant when using optical out?

I am looking at this baby to use as an MPD server. The plan is to connect it to my amp through the optical out. The plan, of course, is to put Arch on it in due time (I don't know the status of the ARM port).
I assume the fact the DAC is only 16 bit does not matter when you use optical, but I just want to be sure .

.:B:. wrote:It has an SD(HC) slot as well . If I get it it'd just be running MPD, and NFS, nothing more. Should be able to squeeze that onto 1 GB (although it will probably be Debian).
Yes in that case you are probably better off putting a Slug on it instead of Arch, you'll have an mpd server up and running in no time. However, for a music station / fileserver, wouldn't an ARM NAS be an interesting alternative? They're not much bigger or more expensive, but you'll have the storage as well then.
