Using OS 9 on PowerBook G4 running OSX 10.5.8

I have a PowerBook G4 in good working order running OS 10.5.8.
I am trying to migrate upward Pagemaker 7 files from a MacPlus running  OS 6.  I have Adobe InDesign 2 on my PowerBook and this should open Pagemaker 7 files.  I can put my Pagemaker 7 files onto a 1.4 diskette on the OS 6 system.  Now I need to connect a 1.4 disk USB drive to my PowerBook to bring the Pagemaker 7 files into InDesign.
I have bought an Imation SuperDisk complete with its original installation disk.  I have installed on my PowerBook G4 the Mac OS 9 support files from the original G4 installation disc.  However, when I try to run the installation file, I get what I believe is an Apple message (not an Imation install message) that says:  "You can't open this application because the classic environment is not longer supported."  I suppose this is because I have upgraded from the original G4 OSX installation.
I suppose I could wipe the G4 clean and start over by installing the original OS that came with it with the OS 9 support files.  However, even if I then get the Imagion disk drive working, I probably won''t be able to run InDesign in that original OS.  Can you guide me?
Perhaps there is another way to move the Pagemaker 7 files from my MacPlus to my Powerbook G4?  At the moment it is not connected to the internet and I do not know how to set that up.  Or perhaps there is a computer to computer file transfer option?
Help greatly appreciated.  I really want to move these old elaborate Pagemaker 7 files up into InDesign 2, thence to 3, 4 etc.that I have on my iMac and MacMini.
Thank you thank you!

Careful what you call Classic.
Classic will not run under 10.5.
You have four options:
1. Firewire dual boot Mac OS X 9 & Mac OS X 10.5 on Macs that support Mac OS 9 booting:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1757
2. Firewire dual boot 10.4.11 & 10.5 installing Classic on the 10.4.11 drive.
3. Dual boot two partitions in 10.4.11 and 10.5, installing Classic on the 10.4.11, or just installing 9 on a machine that supports booting into Mac OS 9.
4. Dual boot two internal drives in 10.4.11 and 10.5, installing Classic on the 10.4.11, or just installing 9 on a machine that supports booting into Mac OS 9.
Booting is controlled through Apple menu -> System Preferences.
Classic has very limited driver support, whereas 9 booting supports the full array of Mac OS 9 drivers.

I think you're out of luck with PPC & 10.5, or in luck by my view of iCloud.
Some features of iCloud require iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2, or a Mac computer with OS X Lion or a PC with Windows Vista or Windows 7 (Outlook 2007 or 2010 recommended). Some music features of iCloud are available in beta now in the U.S. only and require iOS 4.3.3 on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 (GSM model), iPod touch (3rd and 4th generation), iPad, or iPad 2, or a Mac or PC with iTunes 10.3 or later.

Did you just delete the Safari icon from the dock? If so, bring up Finder, choose applications, and drag the Safari icon back to the dock.  However, if you really deleted it (dragged it to the trash and emptied the trash) ... you can download it from the OS X 10.5 Leopard install disk, using the optional installs. After clicking on optional installs, click on applications, and choose Safari.

Is this music purchased back in DRM days? I don't actually have any iTunes music so I can't test with my iTunes 7.5, but I know that without iTunes 10 you cannot even connect to the store anymore.  I wouldn't think that would require an active connection to the store all the time, otherwise how could you play music on a computer in the middle of nowhere?  Did you do something to trigger iTunes suddenly wanting to connect and check on machine authorization?

Can I set up a RAID 5 format for redundancy?

I'd like to store my Aperture /IMovie Libraries on an external hard drive.
That is fine and recommended.. use the fastest disk you can afford.. ie Thunderbolt>USB3>FW800>USB2.
In addition, I'd like to partition the external hard drive so that Time Machine can use it to both back up my IMac and the external library drives.
Let me be clear.. you want to partition the one disk.. use it for TM and move your files to the external disk.. and then backup to the same disk.. You can do it.. but that is not a backup.. that is an experiment in how long you can get away with running files and backups on the same disk before you lose everything.. like Russian Roulette.. pull the trigger enough times and laws of probability will do you in.
You must have backups on a different disk .. otherwise it is pointless.
Can I set up a RAID 5 format for redundancy?
No.. you can buy special USB and Thunderbolt external drives that support RAID..
BUT that is still not a backup.. let me show why.. you make a silly move and corrupt your file in aperture.. it is not that rare.
Raid will corrupt all copies of the files.. it is replicated across all disks.
Delete a photo it is deleted across all disks.. you have no recovery.
Alway, always consider RAID system one disk.. backup onto another disk.. and if the photos or movies are at all important to you.. ie your family .. make another copy and store in a relatives house.. There is no such thing as too much redundancy.

  • When using a Foscam FI8910W IP Camera, how do I get the 2-way audio function to work? I have VLC as a video app in my applications folder. I am running OSX 10.8

Again, I am on a 2011 MBP, running OSX 10.8.4, and I use VLC as my default player. I bought a Foscam FI8910W Pan&Tilt camera, which has 2-way audio capability through the browser. I have looked online and the only people who have this camera who can also use their audio functions are those individuals who are on a PC running IE. The Foscam website says to fix this issue I must download VLC player. I had VLC before I ever heard of Foscam. Still no audio. When I sign onto my IP camera by inputting the IP address, the user name, and the encryption password, I can then view the camera. At the bottom, it has a URL that says (audio). Clicking this does only one thing - it tells me that I need a plug in to have audio support. The plugin is the VLC player. So I am back at square one. Please help.

I just went to the IP address to access my camera's software; however, there is no mention of audio settings or anything called ADPCM. The included software (CD) does not work with 10.8 - a fact left out by the manufacturer
In regards to .wav files as you had previously mentioned, I have only 6 (.wav) files on my Mac that could be located using finder. They are all involved with my MacMail application. I could not find any other .wav file.

Unfortunately, Safari cannot be updated past 5.1.10 on a Mac running v10.6.8.
So, the options are to upgrade to a newer OS X or use Firefox or  Chrome.

Hi rbcjoker76, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Sounds like some needed System Fonts wre replaced by bad ones. Y also have Font Book in Applications for validating fonts & checking for duplicates.
Required Fonts from 10.3, much the same in 10.4...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2444?viewlocale=en_US
You may have to get Pacifist...
    http://www.charlessoft.com/
then intall the Fonts what you need from your Install Disk.
Or do a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

  • Using Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8) to host web sites on LAN

I would like to know how to use a Mac Mini running OSX Server (10.8 ML) to host web sites on my home network (LAN).
I am developing web sites and previously (before ML) I used my Mac Pro to 'host' the sites I was developing to test them out before publishing them to my hosting package.  That was when I was using 10.7 Lion and theer was an option in the System Preferences to turn web sharing on.
I have since upgraded my Mac client to 10.8 ML and have configured it to do the same - even though there is no System Preferences option for web sharing any more.
I also have a Mac Mini running on my LAN and its been upgraded to OSX Server 10.8.
Im now trying to configure it to host the web sites I am developing but with no success.
I thought it was just a matter of adding them as sites in the Server's Websites panel (see screen shot)
but so far Ive had no success.
On my Mac client I can simply add a folder in the Sites directory and then open the web site by putting http://myhost/~myuser/name-of-folder and it will load the default file in the folder e.g. index.html
How do I achieve the 'same thing' on OSX Server?
