Using own flash button - no link option

Hey,
This is probably a really dumb question, but I cannot figure
out how to link my own imported flash button to a page on my site.
If I select a button within DW, and click the edit option I'm
presented with the option of linking the button. If I use my own
button, clicking edit just puts me into Flash.
I don't want to use the "getURL" within flash because it
insists on too many security checks which would really ruin a
visitor's experience to my site.
Even in code view there is no hint as to a link referenced,
so I can't even fudge around with the code!
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
PS.--Adobe: maybe offer a "suggested username" when
registering for your forums - not really my preferred choice of
nick, but got fed up after 20 attempts to choose one.

You cannot apply an HTML link to a Flash element. That link
must be part of
the Actionscript.

Type '''about:config''' in the Location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key. When you see a warning, click '''I'll be careful, I promise!''' button.

  • Use of flash buttons - not a good idea?

    Hi guys
I've been advised in an earlier post against the use of flash
buttons. As someone relatively new to Adobe products I'm interested
to know how flash buttons don't seem to be supported but flash
moves or indeed flash websites are in abundance and seemingly have
no problems, or personally speaking I've not had problems viewing
such websites in the past. I'm not contending the opinion I was
given but as someone on a learning curve I think it would be
invaluable to learn how one works and not the other.
Also, what would be a suitable alternative to flash buttons,
I'm considering using jpg images which change on mouse-over using
    javascript.
    Mike

sigh - i was trying to be nonjudgemental. one may have a site
where seo is a nonissue and they know that their audience has the
latest flash-equipped browser (like mine, for example. while i
choose to not use flash for different reasons, i don't rely on
search engines as a meaningful source of business and/or leads.)

  • Flash button download link

I don't think the message for people to download the flash
player is popping up on webpages. I've tried to use the button and
the link supplied by Adobe but it keeps putting the website address
that it is on in front of the Adobe address so it comes up as a, "
    not found webpage".
Is there an easier way to get the message out to download a
flash player if you cannot see the videos on this page?

It sounds like you're not including the link correctly. It
    needs to be
    the full address, including the
    http:// protocol.

Not many people will download it if they don't already have

Search for "pop up", it has been hammered in hundreds of
    posts, literally.
All methods works, search away and if the one you find does
not work, you simply do something
wrong or you have pop up blocking programs and these can't be
    work around, otherwise what the
    purpose of such program.

  • Using a Flash button and rollover captions simultaneously

    Hi,
I have a button that I created in Flash. When hovered over, the button turns a different color. I'd like to use this button simultaneously with the rollover caption feature in Captivate, but it looks like I can only get one or the other to work, depending which is stacked on top.
Anyone have any workaround ideas, besides creating each button individually in Flash and adding the text in the hover state?
    I'm using CP6.
    Thanks!

    Hi there
Why use Flash just to create a button rollover? Captivate offers Image buttons where you specify up to three images used for rollovers. And with the Captivate button you could enable the Hint caption to provide the rollover you are seeking.

getting warning messages. please can some one help

You have to do this when you create the buttons in DW, or
    when you make them
    in Flash.
If you want to use Flash for navigation, consider this -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will
    not be spidered
    3. Screen assistive devices don't parse Flash links - what
    will those users
    do?
    4. DW cannot maintain links within a Flash movie, so if you
    move or rename
a linked file, your navigation will break - what will you do?
It's usually a very bad idea for these reasons...

The last 6 hours have been very frustrating! I have created a

Combining Flash buttons with Templates *IS* going to be a
    very frustrating
experience for you. The best thing you can do is to make sure
    when you
insert the button you use a ROOT RELATIVE link to it. That
    way, the link
will work from any page in the site without management.

  • Javascript buttons and links no longer work in Firefox after latest update

Whenever I try to use a javascript button or link, nothing happens, I just get a message in the bottom bar such as: "javascript:window.close();" telling me what the command is, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I cannot close windows in social security or in any other program using javascript. This has happened since the last upgrade to Firefox 11. I even tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling (using the Mozilla instructions to '''completely''' remove Firefox) a fresh Firefox eleven, to no avail. I made sure javascript was completely enabled in tools/options/content

I have a similar problem like this. I dont know what the deal is but since some type of either add on upgrade or firefox upgrade i get notifications to install flash when i try to launch anything from google music. I did everything you can think of including uninstalling, reinstalling both the add on "No Script" Firefox itself, ran several diagnostic programs to ensure it wasnt any type of malware, reinstalled Adobe Flash 11, Verified Java version. I even tried to play music from google music in IE8 and that worked so its clearly Mozilla and its add ons. I disabled No Script and Google Music miraculously started working fine. This is pretty irritating considering I do everything in my power to ensure I dont get hit with any type of malware, virus, spyware, etc and No Script is definitely an Add on i like to use for that very reason since Firefox no longer supports the Norton Web Tracker add on. Any fix for this foolishness would be great, thanks!!

Must you use Flash buttons? You can avoid this problem
    altogether by using
ordinary graphic buttons or even CSS styled text. Besides,
    there are many
disadvantages to the use of Flash navigation -
    1. Some people don't have Flash installed - what do they do?
    2. Search engines don't parse Flash links - your site will

  • Flash button: Jump to anchor tag in iframe.

    Hi there...
I have a problem with flash button when linking to named anchor in html - iframe. I used the code below:
    on (release) {
        getURL ("calculator.html#goldvalue", "main");
"main" is name of an iframe in index.html, that opens with calculator.html.
    <iframe id="main" src="calculator.html" width="1024" height="500" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" name="main"><p>Your browser doesn't support iframes.</p></iframe>
Any idea how to fix this?
    Tnx, A.

"goldvalue" is na anchor name in calculator.html, it's not a function or anything... I'd like flash button to scroll or in another words to jump to middle of the html page. All links do work - except the ones with anchor names. As the matter of fact even calculator.html#goldvalue works as a link, it just doesn't jumps to the #goldvalue.

  • Problem with Flash Button Sticking

I am adding Handlers to Mouse Events using action Script 3.
The buttons move up and down when rolling over the button. So you
have that "wave effect" when navigating the site.
The problem I am having is that if you rollout of the button
before the button is done playing the movie it freezes at that
    point of the movie.
Has anyone had this problem before? Can anyone help?
    THANKS!

    The standard reply is -
    1. Why are you using frames since there are many compelling
    reasons not to?
    2. Why are you using Flash navigation since there are many
    compelling

Most people here don't work with (assiduously avoid) both of
