Using Pages as a slide show

In a lecture class the other day I wanted to show photos of Aztec and early Spanish Christian architecture ..... I couldn't seem to drop images purloined from the web into iPhoto ..... so I created a Pages WP file and dropped the photos there.
In class I hooked my baby up to a video projector, opened the Pages file, clicked on 'Print' then selected 'Print preview' --- et voila ..... there was the file and a list of thumbnails that I could move through in any order, or jump around in at my need while talking about the images ......
Easy. Effective.

  • Using downloaded songs for slide show background music

Maybe I am naive, but I just joined iTunes and downloaded some music to use as background for slide shows of family pics. I am using Microsoft Plus! to put the slide shows together. The iTunes songs downloaded in MPEG-4 and the Plus! code will only recognize MP3. I am also concerned that the copyright protection will make the songs not useable for the slide show compilations. Any ideas? Thanks!

In iTUnes you can burn the song to CD then reimport it as a MP3. Goto edit>preferences>advanced tab>Import sub tab, and set it from "AAC" to "MP3" then hit OK
Now burn the songs to CD in itunes. Put the CD back in and hit the "Import" button in the top right corner of itunes

  • My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show.

My photos are sharp but become soft when used in and IDVD slide show. How can I prevent this from happining??

    Hi,
I suggest that you try unchecking both of the crop options - landscape & portrait.
To re-create your situation, I had to check the crop for landscape pictures option.
I prefer to have control over any cropping so I tend to crop each image first before creating the slide show.

  • I am using IDVD to make slide shows.  The pictures are clear and of good quality.  When I burn the slide show to a disk, the pictures are blurry and of poor quality.  Is there a setting for quality of picture in burning a disk?

I am using IDVD to make slide shows.  The pictures are clear and of high quality when viewed on my computer.  When I burn the slide show to a disk, the pictures are blury and of poor quality.  Is there a setting adjustment to correct this problem?

I would re-post in the iDVD forum.  You are likely to get a faster answer there.  Good luck.

The Mac software - iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD are not the best with the Ken Burns effect (zoom in/out effect), so you might want to minimize that effect; also, if your subjects are wearing stripes for instance, that will have an effect if you zoom. There is better software available for slideshows; however, I do not know of any that is free (and does a good job). I've used Photo to Movie for some time; it does a fine job even in HD, but you have to pay for it. I use iDVD extensively, but only to add a menu, theme, special effects, etc. and then to burn it.

  • How do I add an image already in the page to a slide show ?

It seems so simple: I have a couple of images already spread out on a page, but later on I decide to collect them into a simple slide show after all. So I drag this Slide Show widget into place, and now ? Yeah, I know, I should use the button to select new images into it, or drag them as files from my Finder onto the Slide Show. But I already have them sitting on my page ! Isn't there a quicker and better way ? I tried copying and pasting in a lot of ways, and I can change the existing (three) sample images, but it's not even so easy to do it. Anyone ?
BTW, I know I could use Compositions, and at least they offer a simple + button to add extra instances to the widget. But I'd like to these plain vanilla Slide Show widgets in this situation.

    Hi,
I used a blank slideshow, and then I dragged an existing image from the page and drop to the slideshow, it works absolutely fine, check this screenshot
is that what you are referring here, or did I miss anything

  • Formats for movie clip used in PSE 4 slide show

Still finding it difficult to find documentation of what formats are supported for using digital camera movie clips in PSE 4 slide show.
The movie file from my Canon camera is 640 x 480, 30 fps Motion JPEG and has a .AVI extension. I am able to use it "as is" in a PSE 4 slide show. However, sometimes I need to trim the movie clip in Windows Movie Maker 2 in order to keep only the best part.
My question is what parameters can I specify to save my movie clip in Movie Maker 2 so that I can use it as a movie clip in a Photoshop Elements 4 slide show that will be saved as a WMV file?

    Karin Sue,
    >Also, are the projects saved in a folder somewhere, or only as part of the Catalog?"
The definition of the "project", which is the "Creation" in Organizer terms is saved only in the Catalog.
    >If you publish your creation as a pdf or wmv they are saved in the folder you designate. Once published, I don't believe there is any way to edit. If you save the creation, you can go back and edit and republish if you like.
Yes, the WMV or PDF file is saved in the folder that you designate. You are correct that if you save the Creation, you can go back and re-edit. When you Save the Creation gets a thumbnail within the Organizer photo well and you can click on the thumbnail to go back in to the Creation process make modifications and save a new WMV or PDF file.
Note: that the Save window documents that the PDF choice does not support some options such as Pan and zoom, videos, and certain transitiions.

  • Unable to use  transition options in slide show

I am unable to get the transition options to function properly on iPhoto 6. I always use the "effects" control box for each individual image, setting speed of transition and the picture's length of time on screen. The only one that works is the default/dissolve. The other transitions seem to work when I choose to set the slide show to music but that sets one transition for the entire slide show. Surprisingly, I sometimes can get those other options to work when I used the control at the bottom of the screen, the one right below my choice of converting the image to black and white or sepia. But it worked for the first few slides before it stopped. When I played the slide show, it defaulted to dissolve. When burn slide shows to iDVD, only dissolve transitions are enabled. How can I get the other transition options to work?

Have you tried deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, found in Users/Library/Preferences? First quit iPhoto, then delete the pref file, then restart and see if the problem resolves itself.

  • Using FC Express for slide shows???

I would like to produce "slide" shows of my photography set to music with voiceovers to show with digital projector and to put on DVD. I really like the capabilities of ProShow Gold and ProShow Producer, but those programs won't run on a MAC. Can I do a slide show using Final Cut Express? Will it distort my photos because of rectangular pixels vs square pixels?
    Thanks for any help.

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

iDVD will do this. Basically you create an album in iPhoto, then open iDVD and import the album (Media pane > Photos, then drag the album to the DVD menu). You can change the sequence, add, delete images, change buttons, etc. (I think you can only apply one transition type, though, for the entire slide show.) You can also add an audio track and have iDVD adjust the slideshow timing to automatically fit the length of the audio.
I suppose you would have to call it DVD quality however I've done this and the results look great, at least for the intended audiences/purposes.
With regard to varying the effects/transitions between slides, we had to use iMovie or FCE for that. (That is, we had to build the slide show in iMovie or FCE then add the different transitions where we wanted them, then export to iDVD).

  • What format should I use for new  FCP slide show to DVD project?

I want to edit a slide show movie. I have all of the high resolution images. I plan on authoring the project to DVD 16:9 anamorphic with DVD SP. Later I would like to author to 1920 x 1080 HD on Blu-Ray. ( I can't afford Adobe BR authoring software at this time, I want to start with the DVD) I am looking for advice. I want the quality of DVD and future Blu-Ray to be best possible quality. I'm thinking there are two options I might use:
    1. Edit the FCP project in HD 1920 x 1080. Use Compressor to convert the sequence to 16:9 anamorphic for DVD SP input. I am thinking I will have the HD sequence ready for the Blu Ray in the future. I like this approach. Is the conversion possible with compressor? What exact format and frame rate should I use for the FCP project?
    2. Edit the FCP project in 16:9 Anamorphic. Compress for DVD SP input. I am not fond of this option. I don't look forward to making rectangular pixel images in Photoshop for one. That will be a lot of work for this project. I won't have an HD sequence ready for Blu Ray in future, I will have to start a new project from scratch to make the HD version.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Edit in a 1920x1080/30p Pro Res sequence settings.
Export that to a self contained movie current settings, and use which ever SD DVD preset to encode for use in DVD SP.
The self contained movie can eventually be used in Adobe Encore for blu ray authoring.
But having "high resolution" images/photos means nothing in video.
1 dpi is sufficient at 1920x1080 unless you plan to pan and zoom, in which case double the pixel size, not the dpi.
300 dpi produces no better image than 1 dpi.

  • How to use video in a slide show

I've created slideshows in iPhoto and incorperated a mizture of photos and videos.
I've now made one using Aperture but the video does not play - it just shows the first frame. The video will play if I select it alone in the browser.
    Any suggestions.?
    Thanks.

Thanks Frank, I had watched that some time ago but it was good to be reminded of it.
What I was having problems with was running the slideshow in 'manual' mode ie starting it using the Play slideshow option and then moving on from slide to slide during my talk which has no set time for each slide.
What I discover is that using the keyboard or mouse, in effect, puts the show on pause. Using arrows or mouse moved the show forward but to show video it is necessary to press space to cause it to run and then pause it again - or set slides to a very long display time.
Anyhow, unless there's a neater solution this is workable.

  • Using Keynote to make slide shows and then expoert them to Quicktime.

I saw a post from Gary Scotland who was responding to a question about how to export a Keynote slide  into Quicktime AND get the audio to link up correctly with the video.  He advised:
    "File > export > QuickTime
    Playbqack Control:   Fixed Timing
    select:   enter full screen mode
    select:   include audio
    Formats:   custom
         video: full size
         video settings:   H264
         quality:   best
         encoding:   best quality multi-pass
         audio:   mix audio"
I get the first line, so In Keynote I do that.  However, to what do the next 9 lines of text refer?  In other words how do I get to these playback controls, are they in Keynote (I can't find them), or in Quick Timer (I can't find them there either)??
I have trouble negotiating this Apple Communities thing, so can someone please respond to my email which is [email protected]?  Thenk you.
    I use
    OS X  10.8.5
    Keynote '09 Version 5.3
Quick Time Player: version 10.2 (607.13)
    Quick Time Player 7:  "Version 7.6.6(1709)  QuickTime™ Version 7.7.1 (2599.41)"
Can anybody clue me in on how to find these playback settings and in which program they live?

  • Spry Slide Show-how to use one size photo for large photo and thumbnail?

    Hi all,
I'm am using Adobe's Spry Slide Show. I can only use one size photo 640x480px for both the large photo and the thumbnail.
I changed the size of the small thumnail on the html:
                     <li><a href="Photos/TestPhoto640x480.jpg" width="490" height="367"><img src="Photos/TestPhoto640x480.jpg" width="63" height="47" alt="photos-1.jpg" /></a></li>
The thumbnail looks fine until you hit Live View or Preview in Browser then photo comes in full size and you can only see the upper left hand corner.
I assume that the java is doing this. But I have no training in Java.
How can I change the Java Code so the thumbnail comes in at 63x47px?
    Many thanks.

Wish I could use scaled down versions of the thumbnails-but I can't.
    Why not?
        img.src = info.src;
        img.style.width =  "490px";<!--Large Photo size on internet-changed from info.width + "px"; to "490px";  *********-->
        img.style.height =  "368px";<!--Large Photo size on internet-changed from info.height + "px"; to "368px";  *******-->
You're shooting yourself in the foot with this.  It's overriding your HTML and CSS  values.
As an FYI, Adobe Abandoned the Spry framework late last year.

  • Protected song used in slide show?

If I use a song bought from the iTunes store (hence protected) and use it in a slide show, burn it to disc as a movie with iMovie or iDvd will unauthorized computers playing the disc be able to play the audio track?
    thanks

Image> Resize> Image Size is the way to go. You may need to resample though. I don't recall what resampling algorithms are in v10, but in v12 'Bicubic Smoother' is recommended for enlargements.
I also have a fallback Scott Kelby (a prolific Photshop / Photoshop Elements author) tip from an early version of PSE that recommended gradual upscaling by 10% at a time to avoid 'jaggies'. It sounds weird but it often works.
Note that for screen display you don't need high pixel per inch counts. 72 or 96 are typical common ppi resolutions.

  • Can you make an exe file for a slide show using PS Elements?

Although I use ProShow Gold for slide shows, I need information on other programs that can provide an option for an exe format. I am not too technical so I can't tell from my Elements and couldn't find anything here. I will be running a competition in which exe files are needed so they can be played on any computer. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I hope your competition goes well. I suggest though that you thoroughly scan each submitted file for virus and malware on an isolated machine first. While not suggesting your competitors would deliberately infect their entry but if their own machines were unknowingly infected by (say) a trojan that could potentially infect the executables they create for your competition.
If it was me I'd request files in a standard format (e.g. WMV) that is readable by just about any media playing software such as Windows Media Player.
