Using Pages how do I export as an RTF?

I am new to pages and need to write a paper for school and the professor wants it sent in RTF file.  How
do I do that?

…or LibreOffice [free].
In fact almost anything other than Pages 5.2.2.

Does anyone know how to use pages so you can export pdfs from the internet and automatically drag words from the document into the file name of the pdf (i.e., author, title of a scientific paper). For example, if I am downloading a paper by smith called "Surgery" that was published in 2002, it will automatically set the file name in the download to smith- surgery 2002. I have heard pages is smart enough to do this.
    thank you

Pages can export only its own documents. They may be exported as PDF, MS Word, RTF or Text files.
Pages can import (ie. Open a file as, or Insert a file into, a Pages document) documents in several formats, but won't rename the document as you describe. Documents that can be Opened (eg. Text, AppleWorks 6 WP, MS Word files) are converted to Pages documents, and retain their original names, with .pages replacing the original file extension. Files that can be Inserted (generally .jpg, .pdf and other image files) become part of the existing Pages file and lose their names.
It may be possible, using AppleScript, to extract the text you want and to Save a Pages file using that text as the filename, but that would depend in part on being able to identify which text is wanted and which is not.
How will the script determine where the author's name begins and where it ends?
How will the script recognize the beginning and of the title, an decide how much of the title to use in the filename?
How will the script recognize the year of publication?
For papers published in a specific journal, with a strict format for placing each of these pieces on information, or containing the needed information as searchable meta data in the file, this might be possible. But it would require knowledge of the structure of these files, and would probably handle only papers published in a specific journal or set of journals.
Outside my field of knowledge, but there are some talented scripters around here who might want to take a closer look.
    Best of luck.

  • Using pages how to insert pdf files on ipad?

using pages how to insert pdf files on ipad?
Anybody have any idea, have pdf files in ibook do not see where to insert pdf's.
Also trying to get word files onto ipad using drop box, do these word files need to be saved in another format?
    Also for pages.
    thnx

No - the Word files do not need to be saved in any other format if you have Pages on your iPad. There are other apps that provide better compatibility than Pages but it will work for you. You have to have DropBox on your PC and the free DropBox app on the iPad to use DropBox to transfer files.
To send the file using DropBox -  make sure DropBox is running on your computer. Then place the file in one of the folders that you have set in your DropBox folder on your PC. Launch DropBox on your iPad and find the folder that you placed the file into and tap on that folder. Find the document and tap on it. It will open in the window on the right. Tap the arrow icon in the upper right corner and select Open in Pages.
If you have pdf files in iBooks that you want to put into Pages you have to email them to yourself and use the Open In feature when you open the email. You cannot send a file from iBooks other than to email it - at least I am not aware of any other way.

  • Using Pages, how do I include occasional "landscape"-formatted pages into a "portrait"-formatted document?

Using Pages, how do I include occasional "landscape"-formatted pages (for large tables) into a long "portrait"-formatted document?
I have not been able to find the solution on Pages Help.

It can't be done in  Pages, hence you don't find the solution in Pages help!
You can rotate the table on the page instead. Press Cmd and drag the right lower corner 90 degrees

You mean you want to use XML to create a flat file, right? Not that the database is using XML in some way? If so, why do you want to use XML?

  • Using Pages, how do I get out of "facing pages?"

How do I get out of "facing pages" when using PAGES ?

Hi Joanne, I don'y have Pages, but perhaps we can work backwards from this info in it's PDF on usage...
Here are ways to view facing pages:
Click View in the toolbar and choose Page Thumbnails to view facing pages in the thumbnail view.
Click the Page View control in the bottom-left corner of the window, and then choose Two Up from the pop-up menu to view facing pages side by side in the main document window.

  • When i crop a video using FCE, how can i export just the selection?

When using the cropping tool with FCE 4, say i just crop out a single square from near the top of the video. if i were to export this video now, the new video would consist of the cropped out selection surrounded by black. is there anyway i can export the cropped out selection without the black? i'm not looking to rescale the image, just to remove the selection at it's original size without all the black around it.

FCE's a fixed-resolution editor and there's no way to export at the resolution of your cropped image unless it matches one of the sequence presets.  In FCP you could set a custom resolution and export as that.

  • Using LR5 - How do I export a photo as a Jpeg at 300dpi ?

I'm making a blurb book and they say I need a photo at 300 dpi - how do I do that?
    Thanks

Most likely they mean 300 ppi (pixels per inch) not dpi
In the Image Sizing portion of the Export Dialog box

  • In the new version of Pages how do I convert files to RTF

Can I still convert files to RTFformat? If so, how?
    Jim

Try the File > Export to command. One of the formats is txt (plain text) so it might not be what you're looking for.

  • How do I export to iDVD?

Using FCEHD how do you export a movie to iDVD?
I have a 2 hour project that I need to get onto a disc and cannot figure out how to get it there without creating a huge, gigantic file that won't fit anyway?
It seems that there is no option to create a mpeg2 file. Don't even know if that is what I should do?

I was used to another pc based program that did things way differently and did not realize that iDVD did the conversion...I thought I needed to render it as an mpeg2 myself before placing it in iDVD, and since there was no way to do that...I was abit confused. Thanks Al

  • HT4641 I will no longer use pages because I can open any rtf's and that is the majority of my files.  Any ideas?

I will no longer use Pages because I can't open any rtf's and that is the majority of my files.  For years I have saved all files as rtf to allow me to open them on windows and with any word process program. Now the new version of Pages will not open them. Any ideas?

You can let Apple know you want this feature back via
    http://www.apple.com/feedback
    and find another word processor.
Are you talking about a Mac or an iPad/iPhone?

  • How can I export comments and tracked changes from Pages to PDF?

    Hello,
I would like to know how I can export my pages document to a pdf that still keeps the comments I had made in the pages version. I am using the latest version of Pages by the way.
    Thanks in advance...

Last week I printed a Pages '09 document to PDF and it carried over all the comments and marked up changes.  This week I foolishly updated to Pages 5 and it won't do this anymore.  If you need to print to PDF and get the comments in the document, you have to switch back to Pages '09, which I am doing tomorrow.  Cannot believe they gutted Pages like this.

    Hi Isk8ter,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
What version of Pages are you working with?  I'm assuming '09 since you reference OS X 10.7.4 above.
I've included the link to the Pages User Manual for you below.
Page 253 starts the chapter on Printing, Shareing and Exporting your document.

Setting the Paper Size and Orientation
Before you print, you should make sure the paper size and orientation are set the way you want by opening the Page Setup dialog.
To set paper size and orientation:
1 Choose File > Page Setup.
2 In the Page Setup dialog, choose the printer you will use from the “Format for” popup
    menu.
3 Choose a standard paper size from the Paper Size pop-up menu.
Also, see page 266 of the Pages User Manual for more specific instructions for creating a custom template for envelopes.
    Hope this helps ...
    Judy
