Using Pages to edit existing HTML??

How useful/user-friendly is PAGES for this: I have some pre-existing Web pages, created for me by someone using Dreamweaver & GoLive. All I want to do is edit the text and images, maybe mess with the tables? Possible?? Or more of a hassle than it's worth???

Pages can only open raw HTML files, which means that if you want to pull the web pages into Pages for editing, you won't see the images. I think this likely far more hassle that it's worth -- you'd be better off learning a little HTML, and editing the code directly in a text editor like TextEdit, or an HTML editor like the fabulous and free Taco HTML Edit.

  • Using Pages to edit document created in Word...Help!

Hi! I'm fairly new to Mac and am experiencing much frustration while trying to edit a Word-created document in Pages. This document contained page numbers in the footer that I need to edit. Unfortunately, I am unable to change the page numbers in Pages. I try to click on the numbers and it doesn't do a thing. When I bring up the footer section in Pages, the text box falls just to the left of the page number.
Any input would be appreciated SO much! I'm getting tired of borrowing a friend's computer to do work that I'm pretty sure I can do on my Mac.

    j,
    Welcome to Apple discussions.
This issue comes up rarely, but it is a known problem. There's something odd about how some Word files get translated into Pages format -- the page numbers get a little screwy. There are two things I can think of to try: 1) Click on Format > Advanced > Make Master Objects Selectable. If this works, you should now be able to select the page number ... or 2) Insert a small rectangle, wrap off, colored white, over the page number, then put a proper page number in either the header or the footer.
Just so you know, I receive Word docs all the time with page numbers in them, and they translate fine. But every now and then I hear tales of the same problem you're having.

  • Cant use iWeb to edit exiting site on hard drive.

I have web pages created with other software and would like to open, edit and publish to my ISP website. I don't se a simple open command to open an existing html page. How do you get iWeb to work with existing pages?

It appears that I have wasted my money upgrading to iLife 06 if iWeb can't do a simple thing like edit existing html. From the menu it appears Apple thinks everyone uses .Mac which cost over my current ISP provided web site. I am currently using MS FrontPage on a PC which is free and allows me to edit html. I had hoped to switch the editing to iWeb but if iWeb can do such a simple thing like import existing files then it is a total waste to me. Thanks for the info.

  • ICan you create and link Templates in DWCS4 after all the pages are built as HTML?

I used Dreamweaver CS4 to create a website(about 50 pages).  Only after completing it did it occur to me that I should have made the pages using Templates .  There are certain areas (footer, navbar, header) that will need to be globally updated occationally, but since none of the pages were built off a .DWT am I out of luck?  Is there any way to create templatized pages from my existing HTML and have them LINK so they will globally update?   The thought of going through and doing each of these over individually is daunting!

That's called putting the cart way ahead of the horse.  You would need to build a Template first, then spawn child pages from that Template.  Since you're already up to your neck in this project,  consider using server-side includes instead of Templates.

  • Are we allowed to use the Web developer function in Firefox version 5.0 to edit the html source code associated with the Firefox home page?

Locking at request of OP - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/844506
Are we allowed to use the Web developer function, under the "Firefox" tab in Firefox version 5.0, to edit the html source code associated with the Firefox version 5.0 home page ( so that we can personalize the home page )? Is this legal?
    Sincerely in Christ,
    Russell E. Willis

    Solution: (Free Download Manager)
Go here: http://codecpack.co/download/Free_Download_Manager.html and download Free Download Manager 3.8.1067 Beta 3, it works perfectly with Firefox 5.0.1
Solution: (to Google mail aka Gmail)
I have had this problem for a while since I did a previous Firefox update, where I had to force Gmail to load in Basic HTML else it's next to impossible to use it. The solution is this: simply update your Java, and Gmail will work without a problem using Standard HTML. To update your Java go here: http://www.java.com/en/ and select "Free Java Download".
And beta normally, universally, means "the not quite there yet version of the version we're aiming for" NORMALLY used during production and testing of a type of software.

  • How do I publish an existing HTML page?

    Hello,
This might sound a bit basic...possibly because I am not that smart...
I have an NT file system - with in it there is an HTML page with icons and other html pages that are linked (relative links). There are other .html pages and images needed in this area.
I have set up a community and want to point to the existing HTML page on that file system - so when a client goes to that community, that HTML page opens up automatically in a portlet.
    The path if Q:\Public\Health\Mainpage.html
I want mainpage.html to open up with the Health Community is selected.
So I made the community, and community page. The was going to place a publisher portlet on it - but do not want the clients to se e a blank page with a portlet linking to Q:\Public\Health\Mainpage.html, but instead see Mainpage.html.
What is the best way of doing this - set up a web service? If so - which one?
Suggestions for a pre-exisiting website residing on a file system?
    Thanks,
    V

I would serve up the documents with IIS or Apache and create a standard web service remote portlet to the document.
Another option is to copy and paste the contents of the document into a content item with a long text property. Then use a presentation template which just emits the html from the content item.
Create a published content portlet for that content item. The good part is that you can edit the document in the portal. The downside is that if someone edits the mainpage.html on the q drive, you will have to copy their changes back into the content item.

  • How can I edit an html file in Firefox using View Source?

I have created an html webpage and saved it to my pc. I can't edit the html file in firefox when I right click on the page and select "View Source". I can view the code but I can't edit it. I can do this in IE9.
I thought I was able to do this before in Firefox.
Did my settings change somewhere that I can no longer do this?
Do I have to have something checked in the Web Developer extensions for it to work?
    I'm using Firefox 24.0
Thank you for any help with this. :)

The View Source window in Firefox cannot be used to change computer codes. Nor can the Web Developer tools.
    Sorry for any inconvenience.
    I suggest using Programmer's Notepad.

  • What's going on in existing html page when I add animations?!!

I am working in Dreamweaver CC on a windows 7 pc, also working in Edge Animate.
I am in an existing site, and I followed the tutorials for opening an existing html file (page) and animating two elements on the page.  I did not create a separate file to save to or to publish to, since nothing in the tutorials (either lynda.com or adobe tv) said anything about creating separate folders either in the site or out of the site.  The tutorials just say "save and publish."
This works GREAT!!  BUT, but, but...nope, not so great.  It creates a "publish/web" folder inside my site root folder that has duplicates of every page on my site!  AND, while the animations work GREAT on the index page, I lose my nav bar functionality--no links, no rollover states, nada.
If I go into the html file in Dreamweaver and make changes to the page, then the animation also stops working.
Are all the pages duplicated because all of my html pages are based on a single template?  And by trying to animate the header on the index page, it duplicates all of the pages?
Why does it eliminate the nav bar functionality?  Is this again because the page is based on a template?
And finally, why do I lose the animation when I edit the page (ANYTHING on the page) in Dreamweaver???
I don't know if I am missing something?  The help will be greatly appreciated!
The site can be found here.  It is 8:00 pm pacific mountain time, and I am shutting off the computer until tomorrow about 11 am.  If you get a chance to look at the page before 11 am on November 17, maybe you can spot the problem for me?  I will start revising it again after 11 am pacific time on Sunday November 17.

  • Web Page Composer - Edit HTML Pages?

    Hi,
I'm looking at the web page composer on our SP13 NW04s portal. I'm look at it to possibly replace a few portal pages I have that are simply url iviews pointing to html pages. My question, when I put the html page in my km and place it in the wpc iviews on the layout, is there anyway to edit the html from the editor's perspective? or is the only way to edit the html pages used to give the "web content author" access to the km folder of the html pages?
If not, is there any way to for the web page composer articles to incorporate our style sheet?

    Hi Chris,
no you can't edit the html files directly in WPC Editors perspective.
You can find the style sheets for WPC articles in KM at:
Content Admin -> KM Content -> etc-> wpceditor -> css

  • How to use Contribute to edit html or java script

I have a client who use Contribute to edit web pages but they
are unable to edit the html or javascript. I have a javascript
photogallery they want to update but they can't. Is there away
around this? I tried a flash gallery but they still can't update
the xml file. Am I missing something here?

You can give your users the rights to Edit page source in
external application (both for xml as javascript):
    1. Main menu>Edit>Administer websites, pick site
    2. Users and Roles, pick role, click Edit role settings
    3. go to Editing and check 'Allow users to edit web page
    source in external application'
When your users opens (using the Choose btn next to
addressbar) a .js or .xml file in Contribute (tested in CS3) just
click the 'Edit btn' and Contribute will open the file in the
    editor you selected.
    How to select the editors:
    1. Main menu>Edit>Preferences
    2. go to File Editors.
If this does not work in your version maybe you can use Main
    menu>File>Actions>Edit page source in external
    application.

  • Is there a way to edit the html code of the page directly on iweb?

My web server gives me the error: Parse error:  syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, everytime I try to access my site after I've updated it with the FTP server.  I leanred that it was because of a bit of extraneous code in the beginning of each page that my web server just doesn't seem to like.  I can go back through once it is updated and delete the code on the web server but it is a big pain to do this each time I update my website, and I would still like to be able to utilize FTP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, you cannot edit the HTML code in iWeb. The webpages are created when you choose publish.
The parse error is caused by a misconfigured server. Here's how to solve it :
         The PHP parse error
If you cannot change it, ask your webhoster to do it for you. It's not a iWeb issue.

  • Partial page load problem when using Muse in an existing non-Muse Masterpage; how to issue a jquery

Partial page load problem when using Muse in an existing non-Muse Masterpage; how to issue a jquery args.get_isPartialLoad().
My page is loaded into a palcehold within the Ajax update panel within the current Masterpage, so page loadload doesn't occur. But if my Muse page can capture  the partial pageload then I can tell jquery to run the Muse formating routine.

Jackie,  I am having the same issue and agree that it obscures our site analytics.
I only have the "WebMarketing" subscription - so I cannot see how often people visit my site (unless I just dont know how to view that).  Here is a screen shot of how many different locations I have and how much it affects my site visitor count based on the other locations which seem "legit" because they have more page views than visits.
I hope there is a way to fix or block this.
