Using Paint Bucket Fill in Selection puts a 1px line down each side...

I want to fill a selection.  I have a simple rectangle path.  I make the path a selection and fill it with the paint bucket.  I get a line on the left outside the selection:
Then I get a line on the right inside the selection:
There's no line at the top and the bottom of the fill is at the bottom of the image.
This line is only 1px but it's for a web graphic and I am trying to get a pixel-perfect size.
Can anyone tell me why the behaviour and how to avoid it?
Thanks
Martin

Refine Edges box did it for me!
I didn't even know about that.  When I had a look it was set to 0% contrast and pushing that up to 100% sorted out the probem for me.
Thank you very much.

Next on my list is to learn about Shape Layers and Fill Pixels.  Does this never end?

Yes, the paint bucket doesn't work in 32 bit/channel. Underneath it has some assumptions about the range of the image data that will take a while to resolve.
But the Fill command works just fine.

The quickest approach that comes to mind is
    a. create 3 separate titles in the Titler (Text Menu/New Text/Default Text)....
    food, goes on Video 4
    routes, goes on Video 3
    hostels, goes on Video 2
Arrange them so that when viewed they are viewed as
    hostels
    routes
    food
    b. Move hostels (Video 2) to where you want it to start in relation to
"Today I am going to talk about travelling in the North of Scotland and give advice on how to get by. I will talk about the best value hostels " - the word 'hostels' appears first at the top right of the screen
Move routes (Video 3) to where you want it to start in relation to
"I will describe the best routes to take" - the word 'routes' now appears under the the word 'hostels'
Move food (4) to where you want it to start in relation to

    c. When all that is done to this stage, it might look like this...

  • How to isolate part of my workspace and use paint bucket to fill it with color?

Here is my situation:  I want to draw a vertical line on the left-hand side of my workspace about an inch away (to the right) from the left edge.   Then I want to fill up that inch-wide column with a particular color.  The end result being that I will have an inch-wide bar of color running vertically down the left side of my project.
I know this is probably really easy to do but it's been a long time since I had a course in Photoshop.
    I use PSE 6.  Thanks!

    Something like this:
    1. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw the rectangular selection
    2. Select the Paint Bucket Tool
        Add a new blank layer
(so it's easy to change later)
Click on the foreground color chip in the toolbox and set your color for the fill
Click inside the selection with the paint bucket tool
        Select>Deselect
You can use the rulers to see how far an inch is in your document

  • Paint Bucket Fill Pattern

Hello, I have CS5 extended.  I know with corel draw I can use a paint bucket to fill an area with a premade pattern and on CS5 I found the pattern stamp tool where I can paint a pattern but is there a way to dump or fill a set area with a pattern?  I find when I paint a pattern even the smallest mistake of painting a section twice can lighten or darken the pattern.

  • Paint Bucket FIlls

Hello, I am working on a project where I am doing hand drawn rotoscope (think waking life).  For larger areas I am drawing the outline and then filling the shape with the paint bucket.  The problem is that the fill doesn't go all the way to the edge of the outline. The anti-aliasing on the brush seems to be creating it, but I don't want to turn anti-aliasing off.  It will be a huge time saver for me to figure this out.  Any thoughts? Thanks!

Any chance you'd be willing to learn to draw with the pen tool instead of the paintbrush?
If not, you could try increasing the tolerance setting in the Options bar of the Paint Bucket Tool.  You might be able to find one that gets you to where there's not an obvious edge left showing.

  • Coloring issues with magic wand tool and paint bucket tool, leaves uncolored areas near drawn lines

Photoshop CS6 doesn't color properly.  Whetever I use brush tool or elliptical marquee tool to do the lines (with brush tool I use Hard Round, not soft), it doesn't color the whole area when i fill them with color. This happens with both magic wand tool AND paint bucket tool, there is always a small uncolored area near the lines. I have tolerance on 30,  and anti-alias, contiguous and sample all layers boxes checked. (this setting worked on my old CS3) I have tried tolerance from 0 to 100, no difference. I have also tried unchecking the boxes I just mentioned, still no difference. I hope there is a solution for this, because it is tedious to always go to the Select - Modify - Expand every time I need to color some area. So how do I fix this problem? I use seperate layers for lines and colors, like I have always done with other Photoshop versions. Even in school where they have CS5 those normal settings work.

    Hello Chris,
I don't think this is a "user error". I think Adobe should be able to program a state of the art paint bucket, which is capable to get this done right.
Other applications are able to get this done right.
Please don't fall into a programmer's ignorance ("this is done right by definition") but listen to us artists and improve this unintuitive behavior. Add something like "ignore transparent pixels", because this doesn't even work if you draw on an empty layer.
    Thank you!

  • JavaFX 2.2 TextField and TextArea use black text-fill on select.

Two of my applications--one FXML and the other UI-coded on NetBeans7.1.1--both have a problem when user selects text in either TextArea or TextField when editing. When content word is double-clicked, the selection background becomes dark blue (dodgerblue) but the text remains BLACK. According to JavaFX-CSS reference the default for -fx-highlight-text-fill is WHITE but this doesn't seem to occur, assuming that "highlight" is the correct operation name.
    I tried an explicit CSS statement: .text-medium {-fx-font: 14 serif;
         -fx-highlight-text-fill: white;
         -fx-highlight-fill: lightgreen;
} even trying to change the selection background. This also had no effect on selected text color or background.
Interestingly, other "selection" operations for a TableView or ListView cell work as specified.
I don't know the JavaFX build version. It came imbedded in jdk1.7.0_03 and was updated with "javafx-windows-i586__Vlatest.exe" download on May 2, 2012.
Please let me know if this is abnormal and, if so, how it can be fixed.

    MORE INFO:
The applications and testing is now running on up-to-date platforms: jdk 7.2.0_u4, javafx-2_2_0-beta-b10, NetBeans 7.2 Beta, and JavaFxSceneBuilder 1.0 (which is now somewhat integrated into NB7.2).
The basic problem--highlighted text-fill color for both TextField and TextArea remains BLACK when double-clicked or selected draging cursor. This should be WHITE by default and the black text is almost invisible.
Another discovery is that the legendary CTL-Z does not work within TextArea or TextField. All of the other edit keys seem to be fine. My applications have a lot of edit functions so not having an "undo" function is disappointing. Maybe there is some API disclaimer as to CTL-Z being unsupported. Anyone know about this?

  • Paint bucket tool after drawing with brush tool

    Hi,
I am just wondering if there is anyway to paint using the paint bucket tool properly after drawing something using the brush tool. Although I have no gaps anywhere within the outline , there are times where the paint bucket tool doesn't paint.  Another issue I encounter is whenever I try to adjust the shape with the selection tool it either fills a portion of the shape with color and even sometimes makes the shape itself disappear.  Is there a way to only select a small portion of the drawing (like the way it is with pencil tool) as the shapes were done using a couple of strokes instead of just one.

    Hi,
You can use use paint bucket tool to change the color of lines drawn with brush. And to be sure that there are no gaps select the line with subselection tool because visually you cannot make out as the gaps are defined in pixels. Also you can select parts of fill region with selection tool if the painting with brush is done in shape mode not object drawing mode.Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Sangeeta

  • Paint Bucket not filling entire selection (CS4/5)

Hello, I'm a professional cartoonist and have worked in Photoshop since the earliest versions.  Since upgrading to CS4 (and now CS5), I've been having trouble using the Paint Bucket Tool, so I'd appreciate any help here.
    Here's a basic example ...
    1) Imagine a single layer CMYK document.
    2) Draw a closed shape using the Pencil Tool (no antialiasing!) with a color of choice.
    3) Select the inside of this shape using the Magic Wand Tool (again, no antialiasing!).
    4) Fill the selection with the EXACT SAME COLOR using Paint Bucket tool.
    5) Deselect region.
    6) Now use menu options SELECT -> COLOR RANGE ... And click on the filled region (technically, that color should be selected by default since it's your current foreground color).
    7) Click OK
    8) Choose a new foreground color and then Paint Bucket the selected region, BUT make sure you click on the area you filled in Step 4 ... i.e., do not click on a pixel you drew using the Pencil Tool.
In CS4 and now CS5, the Paint Bucket is not including the pencilled outline when I click fill.  That is, I'm left with the original pencil outline, and the filled region in a new color.
HOWEVER ... If in Step 8, I'm lucky enough to click one of the original pencil marks, the entire color region fills as it always did in previous versions.
This has grown increasingly annoying while working with my cartoons because I use the Pencil Tool to "close" gaps in my inked lines, and then the Paint Bucket to fill.  If I decide to change the color of a character's shirt, I'm left with tiny spots in the gap regions.
    Help would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks

    Thanks for your suggestions, Charles.
Here's a better explanation as to what is happening with visual examples ...
I ink my cartoons with traditional tools, and then scan a high-res copy into Photoshop.  The black ink is converted to a 2 color bitmap so that there is no anti-aliasing.  This file is then converted to CMYK for coloring.  The black line art becomes the bottom ("Background") layer, and I add a new layer on top for the flat colors.  The flat colors layer is set to "Multiply" so that I can close tiny gaps in my lines with color, without erasing the original black lines.
    Visually ...
    1) Bottom layer is black outline with no antialiasing ...
    2) Create new layer on top for flat colors and set to MULTIPLY.  Using pencil tool (and Wacom Tablet), close the gap with red ...
    3) Because layer is on multiply, you can see that the red in Step 2 is actually this shape ...
    4) Magic Wand to select the area INSIDE of the now closed circle.  Wand is set to "Sample All Layers" so that it selects only the area closed in by the black outline layer AND the red.  Paint bucket this area with the exact same red ...
    5)  Once again, here is what the flat color layer actually looks like since Multiply is on ...
    6) Magic wand the area outside of the circle and fill with a DIFFERENT color ...
    7) Now, suppose you didn't want the circle to be red.  I now select the red using Magic Wand (or Select -> Color Range menu) and click on the red.  An outline appears around the ENTIRE red shape (i.e., you would assume that all of the red has been selected since it is the EXACT same color ... verified using eyedropper tool) ... However, if you click to fill with Paint Bucket, here is the result ...
    8) For some reason, Photoshop is "remembering" the red originally drawn using the Pencil Tool in Step 2 as a separate region ... Even though all of the colors are on the exact same layer ...
I hope this better explains what I'm experiencing here
    ANY IDEAS???

  • Paint bucket and Pencil color fill problem

    Hi,
I'm coloring a comic book and I'm having an annoying bug with CS4.
Say I want to color these bushes:
I put the color on another layer set to Multiply. Using the Pencil tool (no anti-aliasing), I close all the gaps.
Then fill it with the Paint bucket (anti-aliasing off, contiguous, sample all layers) using the same color.
Now say I later decide to change that color; naturally I'll use the Paint bucket.
    This is what happens:
As you can see the pencil strokes are still there, as if they were a different color, even if they're not!
But on closer inspection, it turns out the CMYK values are off by 1%. I have no idea why this happens. The tools are all set at the exact same color and opacity.
Someone posted a thread 9 months ago about this problem but it wasn't solved: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/781035
He says it also occurs on CS5.
I can only assume it's a bug. Help?

I just tried with the pencil set to Multiply, and it happened. And contradicting what I said earlier, the problem happened with Normal as well.
Well, here's another update: the real culprit seems to be the paint bucket tool. I experimented with color samplers to precisely measure the CMYK values. This is completely bizarre:
The paint bucket will occasionnally fill with a color that is off by 1% from the intended color. It seems to happen randomly, but more often with darker colors.
    Check this out:
Sampler 1 is where I closed the gap with the pencil. Sampler 2 is the paint bucket fill.

  • How do I "Select pixels" on more than one layer, then "Paint bucket" ?

    Hi
    Using Photoshop CS4.
I have a document with several layers.
If I right click a layer in the "Layers UI" and then click "Select pixels" then the pixels in that layer is selected.
Then I can use the "Paint bucket" to e.g. set another color for the selected pixels.
Is it possible to "Select pixels" from more than one layer, and then use "Paint bucket" once to change color for all the selected pixels in one go?

You wont be able to FILL more than one layer at a time.
But loading seections can be done by holding control SHIFT and clicking on the layer thumnail in the layers panel. Each click will load more area depending on which layers you load
