Using Panasonic Camcorder PV-GS300 with iChat

Has anyone successfully used the Panasonic Camcorder PV-GS300 with iChat? I'd like to, but I haven't had any success.

Hi Ralph,
The ichatusbcam suggestion worked! Strangely enough, it works even if I use firewire to connect the camera. I tried it first with USB, then again with firewire and both seemed to work similarly, with ichatusbcam allowing me to select DVC as my video option. I would think that firewire would be the better choice if it works, correct? We did a quick test run between the MacBook Pro with its built in iSight and the iBook G3 900MHZ with the Panasonic PV-GS300 and a video chat was successful. Do you recommend setting the download speed in Quicktime and "none" in iChat, or selecting it in iChat? Which should yield better video results or are they quite similar?

  • Anyone using a Canon ZR 60 with iChat 3.1.1 ?

My Canon Mini DV (ZR 60) works fine with iMovie, but it is not working with iChat (3.1.1).
I'm trying to narrow down the problem:
    • is it the camcorder?
    • is it iChat 3.1.1?
    • is it the operator : ) ?
Any help is much appreciated. I'd hate to buy the iSight if DV camcorders are suppose to work with iChat.

    Hi,
This DV Cam is supposed to work in iChat. http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/camcorders.html
As iMovie can "see" TV signals, Mpeg output and DV output to name some, it may be the Camera needs it's output changed.
Some DV camcorders find this Add-on helpful http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/ Comes as a trial and is very inexspensive.

Since I upgraded to tiger I have not been able to use my dv camera with ichat. It always says "camera in use by another application." but no other application is in use. The camera works fine with imovie, but when imovie is not open ichat still says camera is in use by another application

  • Anyone successfully using Canon HV10 HD camera with iChat?

    Hello,
I'm considering purchasing the Canon HV10 camera, but need to know whether using it as webcam works. The alternative choice would be the Sony HDR-HC3, which users on this forum have confirmed as working with iChat.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

    Hi Istvan,
Some Canon cameras have a MiniDV format and do not work with iChat http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61603
Though this list is now quite old I don't know what new cameras may have been added by Canon.
Sometimes it is the Tape Anti-stretch feature that turns the camera off if the tape is left inside.

  • Anyone have luck using Jabra BT500 Bluetooth headset with iChat?

I have narrowed down my Bluetooth headset search to Jabra's BT500, and am curoius if any of you have successfuly used it with iChat.

    Hi All,
I bought a Jabra BT500 today here in Hong Kong as I use Skype to connect to colleauges and family back in the UK.
The device connected perfectly to my Nokia phone (although volume is a bit low even at highest setting).
Then I tried to connect to my Powerbook G4 using the Bluetooth set up.
All went okay until it asked for a passcode which the documentation in the Jabra box said was "0000" - at this point the set up programme rejected the device.
I then tried "other devices" from the set up menu - this did not require a passcode but still rejected the device.
Next stop Google and the Apple pages here.
Seems the problem is not uncommon and there are upteen people with the same problem.
But on reading the solution here of connecting by using iChat preference - I thought I would give it a go.
Same Bluetooth set up came up in iChat Preferences but hey presto! - this time it accepted the pass code and I am good to go.
Quick change of sound output setting in System Prerferences and I can even listed to iTunes (although only in one ear!) I can even use it in the "Voice Notes" feature of Microsoft Word.
So thanks for the solution - the frustration of the past 3 hours was getting me mad!
    Cheers Norman

  • Using two bluetooth headsets simultaneously with ichat

    Hi,
I was wondering if its possible to have two bluetooth headsets simultaneously active on the same ichat on a Mac Mini, or on aG5 with dlink adapter ?
    thanks

That's the trick, I don't want to have to keep one off. I want to be able to decide when the phone rings which headset to answer.

The answer to your question depends on which model JVC camcorder you have.
    Here are a few basics:
    1. If you have a JVC HD Everio that records in the AVCHD high definition file format (.mts file extension), and you have an Mac with an Intel processor, (sound like you do) running iMovie '08 or '09, then it should  be no problem. Simply connect the camcorder via USB and launch iMovie.
    2. If you have a slightly older JVC HD Everio that records MPEG2 high definition (.tod file format), then it is easiest if you record in the special 1440CBR mode, and transfer your video to your Mac using an i.Link (Firewire Connection) using the "Playlist Dubbing" process which is explained in your owner's manual.

  • Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X

Does anyone have any experience using Pavtube Video Converter with Final Cut Pro X for Panasonic camcorder HDC-TM90 shooting in 1080 P 60 ( mts file extension)

Don't use these generic offbrand converters to get footage into FCP X. they re-encode your video and cause loss of quality. If FCP X cannot import your video then use a utility that simply re-wraps it into a quicktime file with no transcoding or loss. I prefer Clipwrap which works great and is updated frequently but there are free alternatives like Media Converter or Rewrap.
But version 10.04 of FCP X should import it directly from camera as long as the folder structure is complete and you are not trying to merely import it from single mts files.

  • Can a NTSC Panasonic camcorder be used with OSX 10.6.7 and be converted to PAL

I have the opportunity to buy a panasonic camcorder in USA which records in NTSC and the software to install is NTSC.
As I live in Australia and the TV & Video is PAL.
Can the software be installed and allow the mac to convert to PAL in iMovie or will I require other conversion software?

You can choose to have your project be in NTSC or PAL within iMovie under Project Properties. I don't know at all what the software is supposed to do and wouldn't know if it is even compatible with Mac OS - and, I don't think you need it. iMovie will import and is compatible with many different cameras and camcorders; take a look at this article (and be sure to click on the link for supported cameras):

  • Help with using a camcorder in iMovie please?

    Hi.
I'm 17, and I'd like to create a video of a family holiday for my Nan & Grandad using their video camera, otherwise they'd have to pay some silly amount to get the content copied onto DVDs.
The camcorder they have is only meant to work with Windows - when you install all the drivers etc. I can't remember the model of it I'm afraid, but it's Panasonic MiniDV camera.
I tried connecting it to my Mac using the supplied cable (camera to USB), but it didn't work. I read somewhere that the camera they've got could work with a Mac if you have a Mini DV to firewire cable.
If I were to buy a Mini DV to Firewire cable, do you think it would work with iMovie '11? I've never used a camcorder with a Mac...
    Cheers

    Yes.
Firewire connection is required for DV cameras. The USB connection will not.

  • Use Camcorder for iMovie and iChat?

    Hi,
I want to find a way to be able to plug a video camera into my iBook to use with iMovie and iChat.
I'm having a difficult finding a definitive solution in finding a webcam to use with my iBook.
Does anyone know if a firewire camcorder will work with iMovie and iChat? (iBook, 500mhz, 384mb RAM, running Panther.
    Thanks very much,
    Ted

    Hi Ted,
In addition to Tom's good comments, here are a couple of other things that may be of interest.
I would suggest you select a Mini-DV camcorder that claims Mac compatibility with Panther (OS X 10.3.9). Some other camcorders may not work easily with at least one of the two apps you specify. For instance, if you decide to get a Canon Mini-DV, see this Apple article concerning a possible FireWire Issue With Some Canon Mini-DV Cameras.
If your 500mhz iBook has a G3 processor, its processor power falls below Apple's minimum iChat AV: System requirements (for iChat 2.1 video). (Mac OS X 10.4: iChat AV system 3.x requirements are different.)
iChatUSBCam can allow slower G3s to work with iChat AV, although you may experience less than smooth video performance. iChatUSBCam is try-before-you-buy software, so you can determine whether it meets your needs before you pay for it. See the web site for FAQs, an explanation of all of iChatUSBCam's features, and camera compatibility if you need iChatUSBCam.

  • How do I use MPL file from Panasonic camcorder in iMove?

My file type from my Panasonic HDC-SD9 doesn't show up when I open iMOVE. Doesn't iMOVE support MPL files from Panasonic?

I'm guessing your files were MTS or something else, as I've never heard of an MPL file. You should ask your question over in the iMovie forum as this one deals specifically with Final Cut Express.
Edit: As I recall we were discussing using your camcorder in FCE over here:

  • Risks when using DV camcorder for ichat video conferencing..

I have a sony dcr pc350. Bought it January of this year and havent had problems with it until recently. For some reason, the video head was damaged. When i play my DV tapes on it, thick gray horizontal lines appear, or sometimes it refuses to play the tapes completely. I just recently read one of the topics in the ichat AV FAQ and it mentioned that there's a risk that using a DV camcorder for ichat AV video conferencing can actually damage the camcorder. Now i'm wondering if that's the reason why my dv cam is damaged now. I haven't been using it to shoot some video footage for a while now, but i have been using it to video conference very often for about over a month now. And then recently, when i had to use it to shoot some video, that's when i saw that the camera needed repairs. As i've mentioned, I havent been using it for anything else (not even to shoot video) and i havent dropped it or anything. I pretty much take good care of it. So i'm thinking that it was my constant use of it for video conferencing that did the damage.
    So my question is:
Has anyone else experienced some camcorder damage that might be related to frequent video conferencing use? If it does indeed damage the camcorder, what specifically does it do to it (what does it damage, how exactly does it cause the damage, etc...)? I'd like to know so I can be more specific when I bring it to the service shop for repairs.

    Hello Albert,
I do NOT think that using your Sony with iChat AV poses any greater risk than using it for other things.
I used my Sonys (DCR-TRV17 and DCR-TRV70) for a while, but I switched to iSight before I damaged them. (I am clumsy.)
The kinds of damage I contemplated in the iSight vs Camcorder or other web-cam FAQ were:
     - dropping or tipping the camera or the tripod upon which it was mounted,
     - contamination from dirt, body oils, or dust, etc.,
     - wear on the heads and internal moving components, and
     - wear on the camera's electrical connections.
Moreover, regular professional clean and adjust is required for my Sonys based on usage hours. Such is NOT required for iSight.
Some of those risks can be mitigated by careful placement and use and by keeping the tape out when using the camera, but some risk always exists when using the equipment. My thought was that, if I wore out or damaged a camera by using it for hundreds of hours of video chat, I would rather wear out or damage iSight, which is cheaper than my Sonys were.
Please post back what your Sony Service Tech finds. I will be eager to read whether your camera needed more than a professional clean and adjust.

  • Zen Vision M:60 with USB host and Panasonic Camcorder SDR-

I own a Panasonic Camcorder SDR-S0 which stores its data on a SD card. I'm thinking about buying the Zen Vision M:60 to use it as a sort of "imagetank" for importing the videos when on vacation. Normally the data on the SD card are transferred by connecting the camera to the PC & transferring them with the Panasonic software MotionSD studio .2E. Another possibility is using Pictbridge. The resulting format of the recorded data is mpeg2.When on vacation I don't have my PC with me & I would like to transfer the data on the Vision M:60. I read that for importing photos this should not give any problems, but no trace of user experience of importing video, without passing thru a PC. I did following test to check which sort of data are on the SD card before transmission to the PC, by reading the SD card with a USB cardreader?: it contained data with .MODextenstion (which is apparently a MPEG-2 codec), .MOI?extension files (which I think is not?needed) & a .PGI file?(which I think is needed?for?graphics printers ?). I copied one?MOV00B.MOD file to my PC and tried to play it. I succeeded without any problem to play it on Windows Media Player. My question : does anyone has any experience with the transfer of this sort of data to the Zen Vision M:60 using the USB host connected either to the digital camcorder or to a cardreader and then importing the .MOD files. If so, could the data be played back on the Vision M:60 ?Thanks for your help ?[color="#ff0000"]As I want to buy the Zen Vision M:60 (bargain price :smileytongue I hope someone with experience on this matter will respond urgently as I leave on holiday next week !!! [color="#ff0000"]Please help !!Message Edited by DEEJEE on 08-03-200705:28 AM

According to the list of tested products here:?http://www.creative.com/products/pro...24&product=433?it's been tested on both Nikon Coolpix P3?and Nikon D200. So?I'd make the assumption that it probably does. It works with my Fuji S5600, and the list above shows they?only tested ?E900 and A600.

  • Ichat using my camcorder.

    Hi,
I have a Canon HV20, with Firewire connection, and would like to use it as a camera for iChat and Skype. Anyone has any information on how to do this?
    Thanks.

As Todd has implied iChat only accepts DV or Internal iSight camera input.
See this for a partial explanation http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61603
The Internal camera is in fact connected over USB internally on the Mac and the OS has a suitable converter for iChat.
External USB cameras if UVC (USB Video Class) compliant can be used on Macs with OS 10.4.9 and above with a USB 2.0 port.
Other USB cameras can be made to work IF you can get or it comes with a mac Drive and using a utility called iChatUSBCam/iUSBCam (recent Name change)
Other Apps such as iMovie can see the HDV input from certain Camcorders.
One thing to check is even if the Camcorder uses firewire that the signal over this cable is actually DV.
It is possible on many devices to output to a Video Recorder or a TV which maybe PAL or NTSC in format or even on some a Mpeg variant. (Again iMovie can "see" these as well. So check the menus on the camera about what output it is set to.
As the first link implies DV is not always DV as many manufacturers have produced propriatary variants
