Using Parallels and Blackberry on a Mac

Hello all,
I am running a new MacBookPro with OS 10.6.x and Parallels 5.0 to emulate Windows 7. I am trying to figure out if I can sync my Blackberry to my Outlook email, calendar and address book on the Windows side, as it is tied to my office Exchange Server. The issue is that the company has not subscribed to Microsoft's "Enterprise Server", which means that my connections would be through the USB... and RIM states that they don't support connections through a virtual USB (virtual machine).
I'm sure someone out there has figured out how to do it. Right now, I can connect, see the Blackberry and even did a sync of sorts, but it keeps crashing midway through the calendar sync and throwihg an error: 0x80040fb3.
Any ideas are appreciated!

    Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant do not restore MS Windows, it only does the OS X partition. All of your Windows stuff must be backed up and restore using a MS Windows application. If no one on this forum is able to answer your question then I'd repost it on a Parallels forum to see how other Windows users approach this.

  • If I use pages and numbers on a Mac can I save the documents as an extension that I can use on a PC?

    If I use pages and numbers on a Mac mini can I then save the documents as  extensions that can be opened on a PC?

    You can save Pages documents as Word documents and save a Numbers document as an Excel file. In Lion you can go to File>Export and then save as Word or Excel.
    I assume that there is a way to do it in SL or Leopard as well.

  • Trouble with screen resolution when using Parallels and ACT on Macbook Pro (late 2013)

    Hello, I have installed my Sage ACT 2013 software on my Macbook Pro 13" Retina (late 2013) computer that has 16GB of RAM and an i7 core processor using Parallels 9 desktop and Windows 7- 64bit.  The problem is that the screen resolution is very small and condensed to the left side making reading the title boxes and content very difficult.  I reached out to Parallels who was unable to resolve the screen resolution by either  adjusting the display settings or the Windows 7 video settings. Right now they have the Resolution listed as "Scaled" as the "Best for Retina" & "More Space" options did not help the issue.  What is even more strange is that I have Office 2013 installed on the Parallels side so that it can interface with ACT and those screen resolutions read just fine.  Are there any ACT/MAC users out there that might have any insight for me? Thx!

    See -> http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf.
    In addition to the Windows disc (or USB flash drive with the Windows installer) you'll need a 8GB+ flash drive.
    The referenced manual - on page 3, I think, gives you a run-down of what you'll need before you begin the installation. You may also want to post any further Boot Camp questions in the Boot Camp forum -> https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.

  • Using javafx and awt together in MAC

    I have read blogs about not using SWT and AWT libraries together in MAC systems. So, are their any constraints for JAVAFX and AWT as well ?
    Please refer to this link.
    I am having a similar case of writing an image to disk and I am using javafx, the line doesn't seem to work on my mac.

    The link you posted on SWT/AWT integration is irrelevant to JavaFX/AWT integration.
    To learn abount JavaFX/Swing integration, see the Oracle tutorial trail:
    JavaFX for Swing Developers: About This Tutorial | JavaFX 2 Tutorials and Documentation
    As Swing is based on AWT, the tutorial trail is equally applicable whether you are integrating JavaFX with only AWT or with the full Swing toolkit.
    In my opinion, there is little reason to integrate JavaFX with just the AWT toolkit as there is little of value that AWT would provide that JavaFX does not already provide.
    JavaFX integrates fine with ImageIO to write files to disk, Oracle provide a tutorial for that (see the "Creating a Snapshot" section):
    Using the Image Ops API | JavaFX 2 Tutorials and Documentation
    //Take snapshot of the scene
    WritableImage writableImage = scene.snapshot(null);
    // Write snapshot to file system as a .png image
    File outFile = new File("imageops-snapshot.png");
    try {
      ImageIO.write(
        SwingFXUtils.fromFXImage(writableImage, null),
        "png",
        outFile
    } catch (IOException ex) {
      System.out.println(ex.getMessage());

  • Can I install Windows 7 and Windows 8 to my MBA using Parallels and Bootcamp?

    I have a Macbook Air (latest model, 11", i7, 256gb, 8gb ram, Mavericks).
    I need to have access to Windows 7 and 8 and have been toying with the idea of getting a cheap laptop but the problem is most new machines are Windows 8 and they won't allow you to dual-boot with Windows 7 (you need W7 as your main OS and then install W8 later).
    I'm also keen on not spending a shedload extra and carrying another device, so I was thinking if this was possible:
    Buy Parallels Desktop 9 - then either using bootcamp or not, Install both Windows 7 and Windows 8.
    I'm not fussed about running everything at the same time, happy to shut one VM down if it helps performance.
    I have read that multiple OSs such as vista and XP worked once upon a time, but I get the feeling the screw is being tightened with all these cross OS installs and didn't want to drop a couple of hundred quid only to find out I'm trying something that isn't possible.
    thanks for your advice.

    I can't help you with Parallels, but I've been using VMware Fusion for quite a while and you can run Windows 95 through Windows 8.1 without difficulty, so Windows 7 and 8 on the same Mac is easy to do. I think your biggest difficulty will be the small size of your SSD. But with virtualization, you can put the virtual machines on an external SSD connected via USB 3.0 and run them quite well.

  • Using iPad and LogMein app with Mac Mini Server

    Hello everyone, I'm new to the community and I would like to ask your opinions on something I'm considering.
    I'm currently using a MacBook Air beyond its capabilities. I'm running a dual system via Parallels since some of my work programs are Windows based.
    I'm planning to pass the MacBook Air down to one of my employees but I'm stuck on what I will purchase to replace it.
    I like the new MacBook Pro, but I don't like the $2200+ price tag. So what I'm considering is buying a Mac Mini Server ($900) and setting it up in my office with a HDTV as a monitor because I use construction design programs and the laptop screen is just too small for large drawings. The Mac Mini also has 1TB storage vs 256GB on the MacPro. I already have an external disk drive so that's no issue either.
    Also, since I still need mobile convenience, I'm considering downloading the "LogMein Ignition" app ($130) and using this to log in remotely with my iPad for complete access to all of my files and programs.
    What are some pros and cons I should consider before making this move?
    Thanks in advance for the help!
    Kevin

    > If your server is behind NAT, there is almost certainly no need for packet filtering and you should disable it.
    I disagree, Linc. PF is very useful to block known bad IPs and brute force attacks, which are an hourly occurrence, especially on ssh. I use this PF configuration for OS X, which blocks brute force attacks, updates IP blocks from emergingthreats.net, and more. My logs and pf table "bruteforce" are full of attacks and blocked sites (sudo pfctl -t bruteforce -Ts). I also run snort on OS X and can see that the snort alert triggers are greatly reduced by simply blocking all these packets at the network layer.

  • Can I use parallel and multiplexed mode?

    Hi,
    I have
    a NI USB-6259 DAQ Module (Two Connectors with to Cables to two SCXI-1349, which connects the DAQ to the Chassis)
    a SCXI-1001 Chassis
    3 SCXI-1143 8 Channel Low Pass Filter Modules
    and
    a SCXI-1180 Front End Plate
    As the DAQ has 16 diff. AI Channels, I would like to drive two SCXI 1143 in multiplexed mode(connected to Connector 0 at USB-DAQ via SCXI 1349) and one in parallel mode assigned to AI 8-15 (Connected to Connector 1 at USB-DAQ via SCXI 1349) .
    The configuration is approved by MAX
    But when I run it with the software I get an error saying that a simultaneous scan is possible Error -223835. And that the selected channel is not in the task Error: -200486.
    Can one DAQ device(like NI USB-6259) be assigned with Channels 0-7 in multiplexed mode (multiplexing two SCXI 1143 8 Channel) and the rest of the channels in parallel mode for on SCXI card? NI-USB 6259 has to separate connectors but is it still seen as one DAQ card?
    What does the error say? I thought I configured for a simultaneous scan.
    Attached to this post is a picture:
    Top Left: Back view of my NI USB-6259
    Top Right: Front view of my chassis with three SCXI 1143
    Bottom: Back view of my chassis. Two SCXI 1249 are connected to two Cards. One card should be run in parallel mode, two in multiplexed mode.
    Cheers,
    Alex
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    @ Lorenz-Mie
    you are right that I need a new DAQ device, but as stated in the M-Series manual on page A-108:
    "Use Connector 0 of  your M Series device to control SCXI. NI-DAQ 7.4
    and later supports SCXI in parallel mode on Connector 1."
    Thats what I've done. I'll keep on trying.

  • Using Parallels and a Dell Windows Vista CD

    I was hoping I could use a Windows Vista CD I have from Dell in conjunction with Parallels but I keep getting a message informing me that the product key is incorrect.
    I've checked 100 times and I know it IS correct. But is this an issue concerning the Dell OEM disc and the fact it might not work with Parallels?
    Thanks

    There are two kinds of OEM Windows discs - those from a major manufacturer like Dell and those that you can buy from stores like NewEgg. Generally the OEM discs from major manufacturers are specifically tied to a computer model, the same as Apple's restores discs. Chances are the disc installation is looking for a specific component and not finding it. This is consistent with Microsoft's dubious claim that the operating system license is tied to a specific motherboard and when the motherboard is replaced you must purchase a new license.

  • Using fusion and sharing files with mac

    I am getting a Mac Airbook and am going to be running Fusion from VMWare.  I have an external Western Digital drive that I want to use to transfer my files to the Mac.  Two questions:
    1.  Will the Passport software or at least the files - be recongnized by the Mac?
    2.  Does the Mac share the files with Fusion or do I need separate folders?

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    1. Your Mac will recognize the external drive without any problem if it's formatted with FAT, NTFS or exFAT. Note that OS X can't write into NTFS drives.
    2. Your Mac can share files with a virtual machine if you install VMware Tools onto the virtual machine

  • Can i use parallels and windows 7 on my iMac

    What is the best version of Windows to use with Parallels 7 on my iMac? I am looking into 64-bit Windows 7 or XP. But I don't know which is best suited.....

    Doesn't matter, Win 7 is the newer, more secure and better one, XP is 10 years old and being discontinued.

  • HT4059 I have IPad Air. I use Drop Box. Downloaded manuscript with Ipad air does not down load completely, no images. I  used Ipages, and Files Pro. Mac IOS does it and windows XP.

    when I download a manuscript from my DropBox to My  Ipad air, it does not open Images and some contents are not aligned, yet if  I  download from MyMac or XP it works. On  Ipad air I have used the Dropbox, Pages and files Pro. What is wrong?

    There is an Apple document which specifies that key 1 should be used for WEP configuration and recommends using WPA or WPA2 for wireless security: iPad: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections. It's too bad that you didn't find this when you had problems.
    The iPad will work with WPA-TKIP or WPA2-AES. AES provides much stronger security. There is much misinformation on the Internet on this subject.
    WEP is insecure, obsolete and has been deprecated by the IEEE since 2004. There is no chance that Apple or anyone else will waste resources on enhancing WEP implementations. For more information on the tattered history and vulnerabilities of WEP read this: WEP - Wired Equivalent Privacy
    I'm glad to hear that you got your system working. Your post was well-written and might help someone else.
