Using part of the 1TB TC Drive

I want to get TC to backup to Mac computers. I don't, however, want TC to use the entire 1TB for just two computers. I want to manually backup certain files. Is it possible to set TC to only use a certain amount of the hard disk and then be able to create folders and backup other files manually?

Since you can't partition the TC's hard drive, one option is to create a Disk Image on the drive, then mount this disk image from the computer that you want to copy files to the TC. The TC will "honor" this image and not use its space for backups.

Go with the flash and use usb3 or thunderbolt for storage. Google flash vs fusion and you'll get plenty of articles to help with your decision.

OK, it now sort of works. A couple of problems here:
After updating IOS, Safari iCloud was "automatically" switched off
Switching it on had no effect
resetting my iPad automatically switched off safari iCloud again
after switching it back on, it said "turning off safari data"
switched it off and on again, now it said : "turning on safari data" and the sync worked
On IOS 7 no problems
The bookmarks not being displayed was because after pressing the book icon, it defaulted to showing the history and I had to press "Back" to get to the other options

Can I use part of the TC as a general external HD

My Mac Mini is out of HD space. Can I get a TC and use part of it for backups and part as an external HD for things I don't need to have on the Mini all the time?

It is better not to, as the TC has no means to backup data on the disk.. Time Machine cannot backup a network drive. Much better to get a USB and better still a FW hdd and plug it straight into the Mini.. and also good to upgrade the hdd in the mini...!!

Used part of the tablespace

When I check the used space of this tablespace:
I notice that
1-)Even the tablespace is empty, it shows 10M as a used part ?
2-)When I create an empty table in this tablespace, the used part becomes 20M ? Since the table is empty why used part increase? It should increase after the rows inserted into the table? I know 10M of extent allocated for the table, but it should be free for inserts, why does it occupy space in used part?

so the below script doesnt show the free blocks inside the extents of segments.
Even it shows there is not available space in the tablespace, there might be space available inside the extents of the segments....

You might consider this since you will need another drive anyway......
Place the extra files on the external hard drive and connect it to your Mac using USB or Firewire.
Then Time Machine will backup both the Mac and the external hard drive.....so you have backups of everything.

Apparently I cannot use this brand new 1TB G-DRIVE Mini in the USB port of my AirPort Extreme?

Even though an Apple "Genius" said I can. Seems to not be getting enough power, maybe. Why do they feature pictures of these G-Drives as examples for using this feature??? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong? When I connect it directly to my MacBook Pro it works fine, but when I plug it into the USB port on the AEBS it makes kind of a weak clicking noise and never shows up. I have a 500GB Western Digital PassBook that works fine for this purpose, so at least that one is getting enough power from the USB on the AEBS.

Thanks Bob, I actually found some of your advice for someone else with a similar issue during my research! I can see where a powered USB hub would probably help, considering it does seem like insufficient power (the weak clicking). And I do have it formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I guess I was just wishfully thinking the problem would be something else, because I know it supplies enough power for a lot of other external drives, including my WD.
But as a final rant...seriously, why do they have a nice picture of an airport extreme with a G-drive where they advertise this feature. That's just annoying and misleading. And the people at the Apple store need to be better informed and more knowledgeable on the products they recommend and sell to customers.

HT2426 How can I explore the 1tb hard drive

My Mac Book Pro died and I want to explore my Time Capsule 802.11n Wi-Fi hard drive.
All I have is a windows 7 machine and I want to explore it with this computer but, I don't know if its possible because of the format difference.
Could someone please tell me if its possible and how to do it.

If you mean a time machine backup, that is not accessible to a PC. You will have to have a Mac to extract the files.
Buy a USB hard disk and visit a friendly Mac equipped neighbour who will let you do some recovery.. Plug in the TC and the USB drive and recover the whole backup to the USB disk. You can then access the files from a PC using HFS explorer. Note the USB drive still should be formatted HFS+ on the Mac not on the PC.
Better still buy a new Mac.

How can I back up project with just the used part of the clips?

Hello all... I have a FCPX project that I would like to back up.
Duplicate project is copying all of the event and all of the original clips...
In my case the original clips are 1-2 hour interviews... I use about 2-3 minutes of about 30 of them...
Back up is ridiculous...
I'm looking for more of a media manager type of back up where it just backs up the clips from the timeline and gives me maybe a bit of a handle on each clip...
Make sense?
I hope so... cause I've spent about 3 days trying to get this project on an external drive...

I'm fairly sure Apple assumes most people want to keep their original footage... "forever." Media management in FCPX has received quite a lot of praise from professionals.
Everything comes down to prep and organization.
Projects are just pointers into media clips and render files. If you want to trim down your projects, go to the File menu and select Delete Project Render Files...
Deleting Event clips will kill a project no matter what. Archiving a project without the associated Event media is pointless. Best advice is to always keep your original media. That way you can reconstruct an Event later for the clips your project requires. As far as I know, there is no way to delete (to the trash) Event clip ranges.
If you know that you won't be using 90% of your footage and want to delete the extraneous original footage, I would recommend using Quicktime 7 Pro and selecting the ranges you think you'll need beforehand. This is easily accomplished by opening your original clips, setting an In and Out point (just like in FCPX) -- select Copy, then File > New and Paste. Save as a Self-Contained clip and import it into FCPX. QT7Pro does not alter the original footage (as much as possible, I imagine it has to occasionally build an intitial i-frame if your original is something like H.264, but other than that, you can't tell the difference.)
To preserve a project entirely, you will need to back up the associated Event clips as well. Those are the clips you need to worry about trimming. You should use Copy files to Final Cut Events folder on Import. You should be able to delete any transcoded media (High Quality and/or Proxy) before archiving (don't take my word as an absolute on that -- Tom probably knows for sure.) For simplicity, you should create an Event for JUST the clips you will be using for the project to backed up. That way, at the end, you can group the Event folder and the Project together for archiving (and with the smallest footprint).
You could also simply Export your (trimmed) project as H.264 (FCPX uses the highest quality settings) without titles, effects, generators or transitions to retain the portions of clips you want to save/archive and delete all the original media — and forego everything stated above. You will still have an exceptional quality source for any subsequent projects using the same material and it would be compact enough. I wouldn't archive with ProRes (except maybe Proxy... it's about the same bitrate as the H.264 generated, except I think the H.264 would still be a better choice.) Using ProRes kind of defeats the purpose of archiving.

Can I order a recovery disc for my HPG72 259WM and use it on the new hard drive?

My hard drive crashed on my G72 259WM and I did not have a recovery disc. If I order a recovery disc can I load that on my new hard drive to get my computer up and going?
