Using password protection

I am novice level.
I have a web site built with Dreamweaver CS3 and have
family-related pages with pix of the family. I want to make pages
within the "family" group of pages available only to selected
people who have a password. I have learned that the site has been
indexed by Google and this has raised alarms by family members.
I need a simple way to make all of the "family"-related pages
password protected. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Chris

  • Cannot use password protection in documents

    Hi
I cannot use the password protection I have for Acrobat documents.  Worked fine before today, but now when I go to apply a password protection, I get this error message:
    Support Information:  CPasswordLockbox-152
Not only can I not secure using a password I already have create, I cannot create any new ones!
Nor can I alter the ones I have.
I have downloaded the newest reader today.
    I am using Acrobat 7.
Someone please help because I cannot send out our product without it being protected.

That could be the problem (no promises).
Having both on the same Windows system is non-supported nor recommended. It can cause any number of problems and is unpredictable.
Remove one, reinstall or repair the other and see if that clears things up.

  • Can the iOS version of Numbers use password protection yet?

We have the whole iWork suite on our macs, but (so far) just Keynote & Pages on our iOS devices.  Before buying Numbers for iOS, I'm trying to figure out if Apple has gotten around to adding an option for password protection for Numbers documents.  I know the earlier versions of Numbers for iOS did NOT have that capability, but I haven't found anything about the current version.  Thanks!

Yes, it has! I opened up my new iOS version of Numbers and noticed a new Set Password option on the Tools popover list. I loaded one of my password protected spreadsheets into iCloud, and opened it in the new iOS Numbers. It prompted me for a password and let me in.
I made some changes then opened it on my Mac using the new version of Numbers there. Again, I was prompted for a password and everything worked as expected.
Also, on the iOS version, the Set Password option changes to a Change Password option if you're working with a password protected spreadsheet.
    Thanks Apple!

  • InDesign Data Merge using password protected PDFs?

I am trying to print postcards with Data Merge and I've run into a problem. The source files for one of the images are password protected PDFs. They all use the same password, and I do know the password, but InDesign wants me to enter the password every time it processes a record.
If I'm printing 10,000 postcards, I would have to enter the password 10,000 times to make my merged file!
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to enter the password once and, maybe hold down [command + option + control + kitchensink] or whatever, while clicking "OK" to apply that password to all future password dialog boxes? Is there a script I can run that could automatically enter the password?
The original source PDFs need to keep the password protection, so removing the security en masse isn't an option. Making non-secure copies of all the possible PDFs that could be used seems really unwieldy and would take up a lot of network storage resources, so I really hope there is a more elegant solution out there.
I'm using CS5 on a Mac and I would LOVE it if anyone has any suggestions at all on how to fix this. Thanks!

Your path needs to use a colon instead of a forward slash. Also you might need to add the name of your hard drive before Users.
The easiest way to get the correct path is to manually place one of the images, then go to the links panel, right-click on the image name and select Copy Info > Copy Platform Style Path.

  • Machine freezez/lock ups when using password protected certificates in IE 11 Windows 8.1 Pro

When using certificates that have a password enabled and private keys we find the machine hangs up competly with the memory usage jumping to 99%. The main process being the Local Secuirty Authority Process that causes the machine to lock up. The work
around we have is to remove this certificate and import a new certificate making sure we un-tick the check box for private key password.
    Not sure if this
KB2813237 is linked, but this hotfix is available for Windows 8.1 Pro OS.

    Hi  Simon,
You can try that suggestion and check whether it is solved and give your result, if there is any other issue, you can post it back.

  • How do I password protect a webpage in adobe muse?

I want to create a webpage in which I can password protect it so only people with a username and password can get in. How can I do this. By the way, I am new to adobe muse and I am only 12 (I just have in interest in computers). Thanks!

    Chech this out
    What is Password Protection
There are many websites that cause a box to pop up asking you for a username and password. If you don't know the password, you can't enter the site. This provides some security to your Web pages and gives you the chance to choose who you want to allow to see and read your Web pages. There are many ways to password protect your Web pages, from PHP, to JavaScript, to HTAccess (on the Web server).
When Should You Password Protect Pages?
With HTAccess, you can password protect any page or directory on your Web server. You can even protect the entire website if you want to. HTAccess is the most secure method of password protection, as it relies on the Web server, so the valid usernames and passwords are never shared with the Web browser or stored in the HTML like they can be with other scripts. People use password protection:
Hiding new versions of your website from the public until they are ready to launch.
Protecting private sections of your website so that only people you know and trust can read them.
Providing paid content to your customers and only allowing access via a password.
Creating a private forum for select readers.
It's Easy to Password Protect Your Web Pages
You need to do two things:
Create a password file to store the usernames and passwords that will have access to the directory.
Create an htaccess file in the directory to be password protected.
    Create the Password File
Open a new text file called.htpasswdNote the period at the beginning of the filename.
Use a password encryption program to create your passwords. Paste the lines into your .htpasswd file and save the file. You will have one line for every username that requires access.
Upload the .htpasswd file to a directory on your Web server that is not live on the Web. In other words, you should not be able to go to http://YOUR_URL/.htpasswd - it should be in a home directory or other location that is secure.
    Create the htaccess File
Open a text file called.htaccessNote the period at the beginning of the filename.
Add the following to the file: AuthUserFile /path/to/htpasswd/file/.htpasswd AuthGroupFile /dev/null AuthName "Name of Area" AuthType Basic require valid-user
Change/path/to/htpasswd/file/.htpasswdto the full path to the .htpasswd file you uploaded in above.
Change"Name of Area"to the name of the site section being protected. This is used primarily when you have multiple areas with different protection levels.
Save the file and upload it to the directory you want protected.
Test that the password works by accessing the URL. If your password doesn't work, go back to the encryption programs and encrypt it again. Remember that the username and password will be case-sensitive. If you are not prompted for a password, contact your system administrator to make sure that HTAccess is turned on for your site.

  • I can not seem to password protect a pages document

I created a document with pages.  I thought I had password protected it.  However document is not requiring password to open.
I used password protect from the file menu of the document.  I even changed the password but nothing sticks.  What am I doing wrong?

When you choose File > Set (or Change) Password… if you always want a password challenge, even on your own machine, then do not check Remember this password in my keychain from the drop-down Pages password sheet.
If you did, you may have to remove the password, and subsequently re-add it following the above guideline.

  • Wifi and Password Protected Hot Spots

I'm one of the many who will be buying an iPod Touch!! But I just wanted to know if you will be able to access Wifi in places where you need a password to access the Internet, such as in universities. I saw the unveiling of the new iPods and I'm pretty sure he mentioned something about him not liking the fact that you need a password to access the Internet in certain places. So did he say that you will be able to use Wifi on the iPod touch even without a password? Thanks!!

So then why did Steve Jobs even mention him not liking having to have a password to access Wifi networks if he wasn't even going to fix the problem?
Go back an listen to what Steve said again, because you did not listen carefully.
He said that many devices that use the internet have issues because you need to enter passwords to access hotspots and because these devices don't have a full internet browser you can't enter the details. What the iPod touch provides is a full internet browser (Safari) and that allows you to enter the login details for internet hot spots. See the difference?
So you can use password protected hot spots, you need to enter the password and the iPod touch using Safari allows you to do that.

  • Mavericks and password protected WiFi

I upgraded to Mavericks on early 2011 MacBook Pro 13 inch.  My basic WPA(2) is working fine.
However I tried to connect to password protected WiFi on inflight GoGo internet and the hotel internet and neither would bring up the webpage to login.
The WiFi in the menu bar showed it was connected and NO ! mark so no apparent problem. I tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox.  I had not previously tried to connect to GoGo but had previously used the hotel WiFi

  • Newbie to acrobat password protection

    Hi!  All,
I am writing technical specifications for distribution among vendors.  I used password protection to make them not printable, unable to copy or taking screen shot.  However, I was told that there are many third party software, which can 'crack' the password protected PDF files.  I was told that "Advanced PDF Password Recovery by ElcomSoft can 'crack' anything.
Is there anyway that I can 'truely' protect them?  Does Adobe have a solution to address this type of concern?
    Thanx!

Thanx for the reply.  I will look into this.
Interestingly enough, this article addresses exactly my concern about PDF, http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Adobe/Gallery/PDFsecurity.pdf.
    Thanx!

  • Password-protected Sparse Disk Image Bundle remembered after eject

I use password-protected Sparse Disk Image Bundles to protect some files. Every now and then, when I open the image, it doesn't ask me for the password and opens immediately.
At first, I thought I may have inadvertantly agreed to save the password in Keychains. But that is not the case. After running some tests, I noticed it may take up to 3 ejects before it asks me for the password again. It seems to happen more when I modify files in the disk image, but not when I simply read files. I suspect it is not completely unmounting the image.
This is potentially a security issue. Any suggestion on what I can do short of re-ejecting images until it asks for a password again?

You may have successfully increased the sparsebundle's potential capacity while failing to resize the contained partition. That seems to be what happened when I tried this myself. A resized sparsebundle containing the same files would not occupy much more space on disk than it did before.
*Provided you have a backup*, you could try the following:
Remount the image, then run Disk Utility and select the .sparsebundle (non-indented icon) in the left pane. Click on the Partition tab, and then see if you can pull down the lower right corner of the disk image partition to increase its size. If you can, then drag it to the bottom and click Apply.
Again don't try this without a backup. It may not be worth doing in any event - it's easy enough just to make a new, bigger sparsebundle and copy your stuff over.

  • Bug re password protected sites in wordpress

In 29.0.1 i discovered this 'bug'.
I manage a WordPress site http://www.mainehomelessplanning.org/ we use password protect or limit access to documents access for some documents under development. When testing these this past week I discovered that the documents which should show a password request, just showed the document. Testing this in Chrome, IE, an Safari the password request shows up correctly.
I know when we rolled out the site this functionality was working as expected. I am assuming that some change in FireFox in an update introduced this problem. I use a plain FireFox with the stock theme and not many plugins. Given it works correctly in the other browsers, I have to see this as a FireFox Bug.

  • Password protected remote panel empty after login and connecting

    Dear Ladies and Gentleman
We like to access our front panel by web (to be able to see what is happening) which works fine. We need also password protection in order to assure only some people have access. For this case we installed LabView 2009 SP1 32bit together with the Internet Toolkit. After following How to Setup Security for the G Server? we are forced to enter a password when opening the URL in firefox. If the correct password is entered the web site opens BUT the plugin which is needed to open/show the embedded LabView panel applet does not work!! There is a grey box indicating that something is actually going on, but nothing appears...
If we do not use password protection (i.e. G Server but the default LabView Server) everything works fine.
We are using an evaluation version of the Internet Toolkit but if this issue can be solved we would like to buy it.
Thanks a lot for your help and time

    Hello Joseph
    Thanks for your reply - actually I remember to have read the document you mentioned. I read the note also... but I have to admit that I did not understand what's the point;
    - I do not want to 'Import' something but to 'share' / 'publish' / ...
    - I do not understand what a Web Services are and what I do they need for
    - I do NOT have any CGI code (just a simple VI)
    - I JUST WANT TO PROTECT A WORKING REMOTE VI WITH A PASSWORD (e.g. instead of showing the VI to me, ask first for a password and THEN show it)
Sorry but as I can see this should be easy since it should be a quite common task, doesn't it? In early LV versions (before v8 or may be v6) this was simple and
    described in several documents:
    - http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/427FE409FB11575686256DFF0008BBE4
PLEASE HELP ME! In about 1 week the evaluation period of the Internet Toolkit is over... Do I really have to write my own code for this? Is there no simple
    built-in solution?
    Greetings

  • How to PASSWORD PROTECT eps files

i want to password protect files that i am giving to a client. i know they have attempted to alter my artwork in the past and though they are probably within their legal rights do so i do not like it! i would like to discourage this by using password protection. they are not art people but like like to fiddle around with files. is there a way to do this? a 3rd party program that can help me do this? anything? please??
    thanks
    erika

    Erika:
    Depending on your contractual stipulations
(you do have some sort of contract, right!), the odds are they have every right to mess up your art. If you work directly for them or are under some sort of work-for-hire arrangement it is their artwork to screw up.
(Imagine you hired a builder to build a house for you and he wouldn't give you the keys because you'd start living in it!)
If you are under a work-for-hire contract it should also be clearly spelled out that you are not responsible for changes made by the client and any fixes / alterations following from their changes are not covered by the current contract.
(Think about the builder again you are playing football in the house and knock someone through a wall. Who pays for that? Not the builder!)
In other words, you give them their art
(which is theirs), they screw it up, they have to pay you under a new contract to fix it back up. You, being the resourceful type, have your own clean files which you will put on a CD for them and deliver them by day's end after telling them it will take a day or two to get the items together.
    NEVER work without a contract
(unless you're a employee of theirs, then you're out of luck).
    Cheers!
