Using PC to open up documents via Phone Browser - ...

I naturally assumed I could dbl-click on a document in Phone Browser, open it up in Word, edit it, and save it back to the phone. I was very surprised when the document opens up in Read-Only mode! Surely this can't be right, and I'm doing something wrong - how do I open up a document on the phone, but using my PC? I'm connnected to the phone via Bluetooth...

I do not have 9300i any longer, but if you first move the file to another folder in PC (Suite will ask for "would you like to convert" if I remember right), can you edit it normally after that ?

  • Different behaviour between IE6 and IE on opening Office documents via KM

    Hi all,
    we're in the process of rolling out Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and noticed something unexpected when opening non-html documents from a KM navigation iview. When clicking on the links in the ivew the documents are all opened in a new window because the hyperlink / href contains "target=_blank". When the document itself is for instance an Excel document, the browser will ask wether you want to open the document or not. When you choose to open the document, Excel launches and the blank IE6 window is closed in the background. When the user is done with the document he or she will return to the portal screen.
    This nice behaviour does not occur with IE7. The blank window remains open so when the user closes the Office document they are looking at an empty IE7 screen.
    Is there any way to fix this by customization or even by code change? It seems to me that this is more a SAP issue because for all HTML pages and for all documents that have IE plugins such as PDF'syou want to open a new window but for the others you want only the application to be lauched, not an empty IE.

    I found the solution on another site, superuser.com, so I can't claim the solution as my own, but it worked for me. Kent Ng says:
    I face the similar issue with Excel 2003. If you have installed Skype-Click-to-Call, just removed it to resolve this issue.

    Hi Rick,
    Did this issue occur with all the files?
    If yes, I recommend to verify the things below:
    Check if the Office Web Apps feature is activated on the site collection.
    Check if the Office Web Apps service applications and proxies have been created.
    Check if the Office Web Apps service applications and proxies are associated with the proxy group of the Web application that the site collection belongs to.
    Check if the service account permissions for the Web application and the Office Web Apps services are appropriate.

  • I cannot open pdf's via any browser links on my macbook running leopard 10.5.8.

    Hi, I cannot open to PDF's via any browser links on my macbook (1 yr old) running leopard 10.5.8. I have latest adobe reader installed but when I click a link to open a pdf from various sites no matter what browser it just opens a blank tab. Any thoughts?

    Here, it has to be there, but it may be minimised. You just have to press the grey arrow. I took a before/after screenshot for you.

  • HT4759 Is it possible to open icloud from any phone browser?

    Nowadays our smart phones has replaced our PC. So is it possible to use iCloud from any phone browser, better than running to find a PC which's not always close by, to find or retrieve our lost/stolen device.

    You can access your data on icloud using the various apps on an iOS device.  There's no need to use a mobile browser to access icloud.com unless a friend is using your device to check his/her data - that's the one negative to the system.
    As for a lost device, download the Find My iPhone app to your device.  This is used on iOS to track devices.

  • Adobe Reader 10 gets focus when openning a document via SAPGUI

    Hi
       I have SAP GUI application where is displayed PDF file. When PDF is open it gets the screen focus and function keys are not active. I found this http://forums.adobe.com/thread/392940 but it's from 2007. Anybody know if there is something new about this issue?

    Thank you for the reply :-)
    Unfourtenetly we cannot just restore focus afterwards. Our command window sends messages asynchronsly to a mainframe system, to find the documents we want to display. The mainframe system posts the documents one after another to a message queue. Our application displays the documents when they arrive on the message queue. This can take up to 10 seconds, if we have to display many documents. Therefore we cannot switch focus forth and back for each document. Also we do not know when Adobe Reader have finished displaying a document, so we do not know how long time to wait, until setting back the focus.

  • Adobe Reader 8 gets focus when opening a document via DDE

    We have an application that incorporates Adobe Reader. The application consists of two windows. In one window the user can enter commands, which causes Adobe Reader to display a document in the other window.
    Until now, we have used DDE commands to call Adobe Reader 6. This worked fine for the user, as focus stayed in the command window, which meant that the user could issue a number of commands, without having to regain focus.
    We have just installed Adobe Reader 8 on our machines and now Adobe Reader steals the focus, every time a DDE command is sent.
    Is there a setting we can change to stop Adobe Reader from stealing focus or is there a work around that we can use to avoid the problem?
    Thank you in advance :-)

  • "Open with" command tries to open a document via Firefox, even though I have reassociated the file type numerous times.

    Some time ago after installing the new Adobe Creative Suite 5, my indd file extensions lost their association to InDesign. I mis-clicked when trying to correct this and accidentally selected Firefox from the list of programs. But now I can't seem to correct the problem. I've reassociated the file extension with InDesign, but when I try to open the file, a dialog box pops up in Firefox asking if I'd like to open the file in InDesign. If I click OK, a new tab and new dialog box pops up -- endlessly. I've tried editing the registry but nothing seems to work. How can I erase firefox from this file extension's memory?

    This is actually based on how the site handles different file types; Hotmail gives it to the browser as "application/octet-stream" or something like it, whereas sites that properly open it in the browser tag it as "application/pdf". Unfortunately there's nothing you can do about this without setting up a proxy to rewrite the HTTP headers. Complaints to Hotmail in the past haven't worked, and it's not possible to override the behavior in Firefox.

  • Opening word document in a browser

    Hi Friends,
    I am working on a web application which has a websphere as a web server.
    I want to open a word document or any other MIME type file in a browser. I know how to open a word document by setting the content type in a response. But I dont want to use that.
    I have the same code, on the other server which works absolutely fine without any issues.
    In the same code, no content type is set for response as the file is called direcly using "config.getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("FILE PATH")".
    web.xml are identical on both the server.
    Can anyone please suggest what is the other thing that decides the content type for the file to be opened in a browser?
    Thanks & Regards
    Ketan

    To open an Microsoft Word document, you would set the response object's content type to "application/msword" instead of "application/pdf":
    // MIME type for MSWord doc
    res.setContentType( "application/msword" );
    For an Excel document, use the MIME type "application/vnd.ms-excel". In that MIME type, vnd refers to application vendor that must be included to open the file.
    In some cases, the browser doesn't recognize the file's MIME type. That often happens when the required plug-in hasn't been installed for a certain file type. In those cases, the browser will pop up a dialog box, asking the user whether he or she wants to open the file or save it to disk.
    Content disposition
    An HTTP response header named content-disposition allows the servlet to specify information about the file's presentation. Using that header, you can indicate that the content should be opened separately (not actually in the browser) and that it should not be displayed automatically but rather upon some further action by the user. You can also suggest the filename to be used if the content is to be saved to a file. That filename would be the name of the file that appears in the Save As dialog box. If you don't specify the filename, you are likely to get the name of your servlet in that box. To find out more about the content-disposition header, check out Resources.
    In the servlet, you want to set that header as follows:
    res.setHeader("Content-disposition",
    "attachment; filename=" +
    "Example.pdf" );
    // attachment - since we don't want to open
    // it in the browser, but
    // with Adobe Acrobat, and set the
    // default file name to use.
    If you were opening an Microsoft Word file, you would choose:
    res.setHeader("Content-disposition",
    "attachment; filename" +
    "Example.doc" );

  • Opening linked documents in separate browser tabs

    How can I configure Adobe Reader to open a secondary PDF in a new tab from a primary PDF instead of the secondary replacing the primary in the same tab/window?
    If I use Foxit Reader with the same PDFs and the same IE the links from the primary PDF open in new tabs in IE.
    If I use Adobe Reader the links from the primary PDF open in the same tab and replace the primary.
    I'm using IE 8 and Adobe Reader 8.

    Hi,
    PCs with Internet Explorer are effectively opening Word within the browser using a Windows-only technology called OLE.
    There is a Word plugin but it's not a full featured Word document viewer.
    There are a couple of things that can be done to make life easier though. The simplest thing is that you can double click the icon in the Safari downloads window to launch the file, so there's no need to hunt down the file on your Desktop.
    Another more technical thing that can be done is to attach a Folder Action to your Desktop to instruct the Finder to automatically launch Word files as they are created there. I use the same idea to launch certain files from a work website.

  • Opening a Document (.doc, .xls, .pdf) in the browser using an action

    Hello
    I´m using JavaScript to open a document in the browser using the property Onclick from Command Button: onclick="#{backing_archivos.rutaArchivo}"
    and in the backing_archivos.rutaArchivo I have the String window.open("file://c://tmp/document.pdf", "title page", "top=100, left=100")
    but the browser doesn't open anything.
    What can I do?
    Thank.

    You can do an external file by using a stream and and the response object. I have this in a backing bean, and it gets called with a command button.
    public String runQCReport_action()
    BindingContainer bindings = getBindings();
    OperationBinding operationBinding = bindings.getOperationBinding("PromotionRequestQCReport");
    Object result = operationBinding.execute();
    FileInputStream bis = null;
    ServletOutputStream bos = null;
    FacesContext context = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    HttpServletResponse response = (HttpServletResponse)context.getExternalContext().getResponse();
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    response.setHeader("Content-disposition","inline=filename=file.pdf");
    try {
    File fileName = new File("applications/reports/output/PromotionRequestQCReport.pdf");
    bis = new FileInputStream(fileName.getAbsolutePath());
    bos = response.getOutputStream();
    byte[] buff = new byte[2048];
    int bytesRead;
    while (-1 !=(bytesRead = bis.read(buff,0,buff.length)))
    bos.write(buff,0,bytesRead);
    //response.getOutputStream().write(yourdata[]);
    response.getOutputStream().flush();
    response.getOutputStream().close();
    context.responseComplete();
    catch (IOException e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    return null;

  • Problem with opening Archivelink document because of wrong MIME type

    In transaction OAD2 we have a document type FAX which is currently connected to MIME-type application/pdf. This works fine for opening documents having document class FAX and are actuallty a PDF. However, in the past this document type FAX has also been used to store documents, which refer to a MIME type 'image/tiff'.
    When opening FAX-documents that are actually a PDF-file, this currently works fine. When  trying to view these FAX-documents that are actually a TIFF-file, it won't be shown in e.g. SAP Document Viewer, because the extention is unknown. You you have to save the file locally in order to be able to see it.
    Is there a solution to look to the actual document type when opening a document via ArchiveLink, instead of looking to the ArchiveLink document type?
    Thanks for any input in this one!
    Regards,
    Joost

    I've been looking at the file, and it is indeed a puzzlement.
    There is some good news, however. I don't know why it is happening (perhaps a bug, and maybe John would like to take a look at this, too), but it looks like the Paper-filled rectangle from Hinweise layer on the right of Master Ee is being copied to the left half of the actual document spreads on random layers. The pages that seem to be blank are easy to spot in the Page panel (22, 24, 26 & 32) and you can simply Cmd-Shift click on the rectangles on those pages to override and your text and graphics will be revealed. I'm not immediately picking up any other problems scanning quickly through the pages. For a quick and dirty get it done solution, I think this will work, though I would use the .inx file rather than the .indd for the conversion in CS5.5.
    I've looked through the file history, and it is long. This started out in 2007 in CS2 and has gone through updates in CS3 and CS4, and been recovered from crashes at least 4 times (which might have something to do with the strangeness). I also think there are a lot of extraneous unused frames on many of the pages. If it were my project, I'd probably clean it up as much as possible in CS4, even going as far as recreating the master pages in a new document and then going page by page and doing a copy/paste in place of all non-master objects into the new file if you don't want to spend the time to place everythign again from scratch, which in my opinion would be a better idea (I tried moving the pages to a new file, but that didn't make any difference in the CS5.5 conversion). You could also rebuild from Scratch in CS5.5.
