I'm editing a DV Pal sequence, 16:9
I've got to incorporate some PDF,s no problem. When I view the in canvas they look OK. However when I make freeze frame form each slide, they go a little fuzzy, any way round thi, the aspect ratio isnt aproblem as I'm using a white background to overcome pillarboxing issues.

Final Cut Pro's User Preferences window provides a function to set the duration of a still image file.
If you have never changed it, then it will look like this:
As you can see in the above image, each still that you import will have a 12 second duration.
If that is too long, you have the following options:
• Import anyway and set a shorter duration for that clip in the Browser or in the Viewer by setting in and out points.
•Edit the full 12 seconds into the Timeline and drag the end to set a new duration.
•Change the duration in the window pictured above before you import the images.
If 12 seconds is too short, you have the following options:
•Change the duration in the window pictured above to a larger value before you import the images.
•Edit the 12 seconds into the Timeline multiple times and drag the end of the last one to set a final duration. (this one is actually a little bit silly, humor me).
Note that changing the Still/Freeze Frame duration has no effect on disc space. It is merely an instruction to re-use the image a certain number of times.

Any Tutorial / Sample to create Single PDF from multiple source files using PDF assembler in a watched folder process. I have a client application which will prepare number of source files and some meta data information (in .XML) which will be used in header/footer. Is it possible to put a run time generated DDX file in the watch folder and use it in Process. If possible how can I pass the file names in the DDX. Any sample Process will be very helpful.

If possible, make use of Assembler API in your client application instead of doing this using watched folder. Here are the Assembler samples : LiveCycle ES2.5 * Programming with LiveCycle ES2.5
Watched folder can accept zip files (sample : Configuring a watched folder to handle multiple input files and write results to a single folder | Adobe LiveCycle Blog ). Use pdf.ocx or AcroPDF.dll to open a pdf file in a form

I have this kind of problem.
I need to open a pdf in a form, just for reading.
Even if my project is written in VB6, this is not the problem. It could be also in .NET, so I hope you don't reply anything about the development platform.
In a couple of threads, I found two ways to open a pdf in a form: using pdf.ocx or acropdf.dll.
In both cases, this solution works for me in debug, but not in deployed release.
I have two kind of problems:
- if the computer where I execute the program HAS NOT Adobe Reader installed, I have an error "missing dependencies" concerning acropdf.dll or pdf.ocx
- if the computer where I execute the program has Adobe Reader installed, I have an error concerning dll or ocx file version.
The solution works only if the AcroPDF.dll file included in my project has a version equal to the Adobe Reader version installed on the customer's computer.
How can I solve these problems?
The best would be if I could use one of this components without installing Adobe Reader.
If this is not possible, my further question is: if the Adobe Reader version installed on the customer's computer is greater than my AcroPDF.dll, will my project work?

PDF.OCX was an UNSUPPORTED COMPONENT that stopped being included as of Adobe Reader 7. Also, VB6 support stopped with Reader 7 as well. As Adobe only supports Reader 8 and later, there is no need to worry about either.
AcroPDF.dll is part of Reader - it isn't available separately. So yes, your users will need to have Adobe Reader 8 or later installed on their computer.
As long as you target Reader 8 or above, and AcroPDF.dll - you'll work with Reader 8, 9 and X...

How to get the Bookmarks in pdf file by using pdf.js library

In my application i am using PDF.js library to view the pdf files. Now i want to fetch the bookmark details which was already set in the pdf page. How could i get the those bookmark details by using pdf.js library. is there any specific methods available in pdf.js library to get that?

I asked #pdfjs and we would need you to clarify what you mean by "bookmark"
This is where the bookmarks in a pdf are populated [https://github.com/mozilla/pdf.js/blob/master/web/viewer.js#L1032] however you will have to customize what to do with them.

Problems viewing PDF documents created on a scanner using PDF version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x)

We multiple Xerox scanners and not all of them operate on the same version of software/firmware. 1 of our scanners uses PDF Version 1.4 (Acrobat 5.x) when scanning a doucment to our network and 1 of our scanners uses PDF Version 1.6 (Acrobat 7.x). When using Adobe Reader 9.x both documents open properly and are 100% visible. After upgrading to Adobe Reader X, the scans created using the newer version of PDF (1.6) have some missing text/images on the pages and have a grey "overlay" on the page. Again, Reader 9 will view both files properly, but Reader X will not. Any help is appreciated. I have fiddled around with several of the view settings to no avail. Thanks.

That is hardly a solution, the whole purpose of upgrading to Adobe Reader X is to avoid potential threats. There is obviously a problem with Adobe Reader X and veiwing certain documents that needs to be addressed and the way to address it should not reside with "Use Adobe 9 and Adobe 10 and pick whatever version works for your document"

Generation of report in landscape mode using PDF template

Hi,
I am creating a report using pdf template, I have used the repeating group i.e I have used the code <?rep_field="BODY_START"?> and <?rep_field="BODY_END"?> as the repeating area and with the field which needs to be repeated i have used the code <?rep_field="T1_G1"?> in order to display data in the loop.
But finally when the report is displayed, the report acts strange ...sometimes it fails to open says that an internal file read error occured , whereas if I remove the <?rep_field="T1_G1"?> code it works fine , other times if at all it displays the report, the values in the repeating field operlap each other and they are vertically oriented wheras for landscape mode it should be vertical, I tried setting the properties and locking the fileds but all in vain.
Kindly help ASAP!!

I have had the same problem for a year. I never got my TAR answered so I tried again. I am waiting...again. Portrait works fine for me. I am using it to generate po's with custom headers. The only part that does not work for me is the total appears on every page, not just the last one. If I get an answer, I will let you know...

Using pdfs in iba files

Ok I have a client that has a book in pdf's Obviously these will be treated like images so I took 5 pdfs and sis a test .ibooks file and I notice a few things.
I will not need a table of contents or sections, since I did this as a test I used one of the sections templates.
Should I just use a blank page?
next is I notice that if I add a pdf page to any chosen page template looking at the view in landscape it looks fine but I see that there is another view in portrait, with that mentioned, if I want the book to have two views I assume I have to do add the same pdfs to the portrait view am I correct? If so I'm using the same pdf pages twice for each page which will make the book heacy ( is this a problem as there are 80 pages in the book?)
last question, I'm not an epub guru but I can see that iba is more for text heavy books then using pdf files. Would you suggest I use pages, where I did a test fiel there and it outputs to epub which is fine but I do not have any templates with TOC's or sections.

OK, doing some tests and I see the following
In iba the pages which are pdfs are too small to read the text in either portrait or landscape
In pages even though the epub looks a bit more like a book the text is too small to read.
now with that mentioned, should I have the client send me the files which were originally done in microsoft publisher?
( problem there already as they have to convert the file to word as publisher cannot be opened, only by the app that created.
But, if this is the case I would assume that I should use iba as I believe since I have to reformat all the text should be a bit easier than doing the reformatting in pages?
Here is a screenshot of one page so I would have the header, fotter then body text styles to do. If I have to do this we are looking at a load of extra time to do this, correct?

As one of my menu options in a current iDVD project, I have a series of illustrated documents in TextEdit which I have converted to PDF (Problem is, I can't find the orig. TextEdit file, so must use the PDF) that the viewer can click through using the screen arrows. I haven't built the disc yet, so am not sure if the PDF will be accessible to someone watching on a set top player, or, for that matter, on a computer that hasn't got Acrobat Reader. If using PDF is going to be a problem, I thought of converting the pages to jpegs in Photoshop or redoing the pages in TextEdit(a lot of work)...any successful suggestions for having a text slide show?
Other Question: My 2003 G4 came with a Superdrive that doesn't support DVD-RW discs. I heard there was a workaround to fool the burner into accepting them - something to do with putting in a DVD-R disc and then removing it and substituting the RW one. I'd appreciate clear instructions for this procedure, please.

You can use Photoshop to convert the PDF files into TIF/JPG files that you can use. Remember that 'all you have to play with' is 640x480 pixels so I hope your documents aren't too detailed.

Yes, that's what we did with versions prior to iDVD 5. When asked to insert a DVD, insert a DVD-R, AS SOON AS IT IS RECOGNIZED, hold down the disk eject key, immediately remove the DVD-RW and replace it with a DVD-RW disc.

"use pdf reader name" choice is not shown even after deleting "mimetypes.rdf" file

Multiple tabs open when attempting to open PDF files. Have updated Acrobat Reader to latest version X. Have followed trouble shooting instructions to select from drop-down menu the choice "use pdf reader name" (tools-options-application- Adobe). Followed the additional instruction to delete the "mimetypes.rdf" file if the "use pdf reader name" choice does not appear. I have changed the product because it seems that you are taking about the Firefox for Desktop Browser. If this is incorrect please post back with a correction.
I also understand that you are downloading songs, and instead of the save dialogue, you are being taken to a black page to play the song. Please see if this happens in Safe Mode, as well when you troubeshoot any default programs if you are using Windows.

# Select, Save Audio as
# Select the file to download it in and click save.

Using PDF files in books

Does anyone know how I can use PDF files when creating Iphoto books? I am doing various photo books and want to add a few image/design pdf's to the book.

Here's how to get any file into iPhoto as a jpeg file:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3 - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
NOTE: If you don't have any of those options go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I know this sounds dense, but I can't figure out how to get the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th copies to populate....I can get the one to print the correct size on 1/4th of the sheet if that makes any sense.
