Using phone in Europe

What do I need to do to be able to use my phone in Europe, I have a plan with Verizon.

If you aren't able to unlock your phone (as wjosten suggested and his idea of using local sims would be the cheapest way to travel), can you see if Verizon offer international roaming plans to add to your phone service to reduce the cost of the bill. Please note that if you do use an international roaming plan, there are usually voice plans and data plans. On the whole, it is difficult to track just how much data will come through from email so I'd be cautious with applying a data plan. What I request people do (I manage a fleet of phones) is turn off data roaming so that they use data only in wi-fi zones. This can save you a great deal of money.

I'm sure it is important to be able to stay in touch with family and friends while you are visiting abroad, so I would like to further assist!
As Jon_Doh already mentioned, you would've needed to activate global features on your account before leaving the Verizon Wireless coverage area in order for your phone to be able to make calls while roaming. I would also need to know what country you are in to ensure your device is capable of making calls in that particular country.

Use phone in Europe

I want to use my iPhone 3 in Europe. I went thru the process of unlocking it with AT&T in the US. But I put in a European SIM card and it says "no service." What else do I need to do?
It is model#MB715LL/A
I do not know if it is 3G or 3GS but AT&T told me that it would work in Europe.

Did you get the message in iTunes when you restored your iPhone that your iPhone is now unlocked? If not, I suggest you go through the unlocking restore again following ATT's instructions. If it is unlocked, it should work in Europe and recognize the Sim from a European carrier that the iPhone supports.

Tough question: Can I purchase an off-contract iPhone 5 from Verizon and let my brother use it in Europe?

I have an iPhone 4S with Verizon, and I wanted to know if it would be possible for me to buy an iPhone 5 for the off-contract price just as if I was purchasing it for myself, and then ship it to my brother in Austria and let him use it there on the GSM network.
The reason I think this might be possible is because the GSM part of the Verizon iPhone 5 comes unlocked out of the box (or so I've been told)
One obstacle that might stand in the way is if I have to activate the iPhone 5 with Verizon before I send it to him.
Let me know if this would be possible.

If it is truly unlocked (versus the sim slot being unlocked), then yes you would be able to do this. I have no way of actually verifying if my VZW iPhone 5 is truly unlocked (I don't know of a local iPhone 5 AT&T customer to use their sim to see if my phone will work) but maybe someone on here has been able to verify this further than just what some articles state. Otherwise, if it's just the sim slot being unlocked then you would need to keep the phone active on VZW and your brother can use simcards on Europe to roam instead of paying the VZW roaming charges.

You are quite correct. However I think it's a pretty strong "may" given that Apple is marketing the unlocked version as "When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier.". During travel there's no less opportune a time for your phone to go down. Apple understands this. While my 3G (carrier unlocked) has never required service. On other iOS devices Apple has been more than accommodating to the point of honoring their 30 days return policy in another country but pleading with me to save them the paperwork and sending it back to the US as a return myself. The fact they knew the paperwork routine suggests they would have accommodated me had I insisted.

So the US Apple store appears to operate differently from the UK store (where I've just bought 2 new iPhones unlocked and taken SIM only contracts with 2 different service providers). I'm sorry if I've caused any confusion.
To be clear, you need to find somewhere you can get an unlocked phone to be able to bring it back to Europe and use it.

That's up to you. Honestly, unless you're saving hundreds of dollars...you are not...I don't really understand why you'd want to do this. By the time you pay import fees, I doubt you'll be saving much money at all. Not to mention, no warranty/support in Europe for this phone. Any issues, you'll have to physically return the phone to the US...you can't mail it back. Regarding LTE, that's one of the biggest features on an iPhone 5, & you won't have any LTE support in Europe...none.
Doesn't make much sense to me, but hey, its your money.

If so then getting it directly from Apple would be a better option - since the Apple store has unlocked phones now

The only officially unlocked iPhone 5 model, sold in the US, is the A1428 GSM model. Not only will your warranty support only be valid in the US, but the phone will not support LTE anywhere other than North America.
Doubt you'll save much, if any, money by the time you pay tax & duty fees. Seems like a poor idea to me.

Unable to select 'Use Phone for audio calls' on Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for Windows

Hi,
I have recently deployed Cisco Presence Server and integrated with Call Manager 9.1.2. I have successfully deplyed 6700 users on IM & Presence. Some of the users requested for Cisco Jabber with phone control.
I have added CFS client on the Call Manager and associated it with the same extension numbers from their desk phones. I am currently able to make audio and video calls for these specific users. I am currently using Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for windows. I have users both daisy chained to their desk phones and who are not. Can you please confirm if it does make any difference.
Problem Faced -
I am not able to use to option use phone for audio calls. The phone comes down with a cross sign on it. At the same time Cisco Jabber by default uses the client and it works as expected.
Can you please let me know if any of you guys have faced a similar issue.
Please let me know if you need any information regading the configuration used.

It works nicely over home wifi, but for example, i am sitting in my car, phone is in my pocket and I'm using the iPad, call comes in and i don't want to start digging for my phone.

well yes, but it basically makes wifi for the other devices, it basically mimics wifi.

it would be common sense to make it work this way also. directly from device to device. no bounce between WiFi router

I have gone through the below sample and am able to stream the live content using wireacst camera.

But i want to use Phone camera to stream the live video rather using wirecast camera.
How can i use that? How to get the published URL from the C# code, is there any API to get that?

Hello,
There are no in box components that will allow you to transmit captured video from a Windows Phone device to Azure Media Services. You will need to create you own implementation. You can do this by creating a custom Media Foundation sync that can plug into
the MediaCapture element's pipeline. You will then need to modify the captured and compressed video to align to one of the two protocols that Azure Media services can use. At this time Azure Media services can use either Smooth Streaming or RTMP for ingestion.
You will need to create your own packager (or find compatible packager code from a 3rd party) to package the MP4 encoded data into the necessary format.
Here is an example of how to create a custom Media Foundation sync (please note you must write your Media Foundation components using C++ MoCOM. We do not support Media Foundation components written in managed languages):
