Using Photo Elements 5 on 8.1 tried opening received message "Attempt to access invalid address"

Been using PE 5 for several months on my new computer running 8.1.  Tried opening today and received the above message.  Uninstalled it and re-installed, still getting same message.  Please advise.  Thanks

What is the size of your hard disk?  PSE 4 is a very old program and I suspect it is not able to access the entire hard disk on your machine.  Just a thought here.

  • Elements 5 won't open, error message "attempt to access invalid address" any solutions please.

I have been using this for years with other problems, however now it refuses to open. I have uninstalled and re-installed after restarting the computer twice. I also deleted every folder I could find with elements in the name to no avail. If I read a camera card elements get photos opens them into elements organiser but if I click the edit photos tab it refuses to open. I have windows vista 32 bit.

    Hi Garry,
Yes, I did download PSE 8 and it did work.  However, the trial period has ended.  I have uninstalled PSE 8.  I have also unistalled PSE 5 and then reloaded it.  Upon completeion of the PSE 5 load, I tried to open the PSE 5 and the invalid address error message continues to display.  I am very sad that I cant get PSE 5 to work.  Can you help with more things I can try?  Please let me know
    All the best
    David

Make sure your user account has full administrative permissions.  Then, at this stage of the game, I would take the following steps:
    - Re-create the Preferences file following these instructions:
Re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences file to eliminate problems that a damaged preferences file might cause.
Note: When you use this solution, Photoshop Elements will create a new preferences file and you will lose custom settings associated with your current preferences file. However, the file you rename in step 2 is your original preferences file. If you determine that the preferences file is not causing the problem, then you can restore your custom settings by undoing the instructions below.
To re-create the Photoshop Elements preferences file:
    Quit Photoshop Elements.
Locate the Adobe Photoshop Elements preferences files. In Photoshop Elements 5.0, there are two preferences files, one for Organizer and one for Editor:
    Users\[ user ]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Organizer\psa.prf
    Users\[ user ]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\5.0\Editor\Photoshop Elements 5 Prefs.psp
Rename the extension for the files (for example, to psa.old).
Start Photoshop Elements. Photoshop Elements creates a new preferences file.
I doubt that this will fix your problem, however, it is always the first thing to try.  If it does not, take these steps:
    - Uninstall Photoshop Elements
    - Run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301)
    - Reinstall Elements
    - Reinstall the 5.0.2 patch
    Good luck,

  • Adobe Element 5 will not run if a firefox browser is open, give meassage "attempt to access invalid address" however it runs fine if browser closed

I had this problem with Google Chrome and had to uninstall it completely. The problem occurred even if Chrome wasn't running.

Sounds like a problem with Adobe Element, since it caused a problem with two different browsers.

  • Elements 5.02 - Attempt to access invalid address

When I try to launch Photoshop 5.02 the welcome screen is displayed and I can open the Organizer, but when I attempt to open the Quick Fix or the other editor programs I get a dialogue box "Attempt to access invalid address"
This problem is on my profile only as Photoshop works when another user is logged in to the PC ( OS: Vista Home 32bit) and was working ok until a few week ago.
I have tried the following with no success:
    Reinstalled the s/w.
Deleing the Photoshop folder from the AppData in my profile folder.
Deleting the Photoshop registry entries from Current User.
Searched the web for a solution
I know that I could delete my profile and create a new one, but I would only do this if all else failed as I would loose other settings just when I have all setup the way I want it.
Could anyone give me any pointers to where I might look to resolve this please.
    Thank you. Niall

  • Elements 4 "attempt to access invalid address"

I had to re-install Win XP and when I re-installed Elements 4 I can no longer open a .jpg file by right clicking "open with photoshop elements". Instead I get the msg: "attempt to access invalid address".
    Assistance would be appreciated.
    Thanks

After further search on the internet I was able to find out the cause of the problem -- there is a conflict with my anti virus security BitDefender 2010. A solution can be found here: http://forum.bitdefender.com/lofiversion/index.php/t15247.html
Most of the post refer to a problem with Elements 5 and 5.1 but the solution worked for my verison also.

  • Hi everytime I try to open elements 5 I get " attempt to access invalid address" message.

I have to uninstall the program and reinstall it every time I need to use it if the machine has been shut down between installs. The repair option makes no difference either. It's on a vista 32 bit machine with the vista update installed, any ideas please.

Try deleting the prefs which will get re-built to the default status.
    Go to:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 13
Find PhotoshopElementsEditor (see image below) and hold down the three keys Ctrl+ Alt+Shift (not Ctrl+Alt+Delete) then right click on the editor application and choose Open.
Keep all three keys pressed until you see the settings dialog and then release.
Click on Yes and the program should launch.

  • Photoshop Elements 5.0 Attempt to access invalid address error

Everytime I try to open Photoshop Elements I get this error message
and the application refuses to load. I had this issue before and solved it by deleting Chrome (which irked me as it remains my favourite browser to use) however it appears to have come back. I'm not using Bitdefender and my operating system is Windows 7. I have tried deleting my preference folders and uninstalling and re-installing. Any help? I really don't have the money to upgrade and I like this version.

Have you applied the 5.0.2 update for Vista/W7? If not download it here:

  • Error message when trying to receive messages

    hi
i am unable to send or receive messages.
when trying to send an email i get this message: 'An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: Cannot connect to SMTP server 213.8.196.24 (213.8.196.24:25), NB connect error 1460.'
when trying to receive messages i get this message: 'An error occurred with the POP3 mail server. Mail server mail.print-city.co.il responded: '
the problem has just started, i didnt change anything from what was before. internet connection looks ok.
i am attaching the error messages and my account settings.

I finally solved my problem by deleting both accounts and then adding them back via tools - account settings - account actions. It was actually pretty simple... all I had to know was email addresses and passwords. Trying to correct the account settings didn't work for me or for the ATT tech I contacted.

With my my I phone as I try to choose a picture from the photo gallery to send it via email using my Iphone, I can't seem to send nor receive messages anymore. It is asking for my yahoo password. What password will that be as I have forgotten it. I know what my personal password on my yahoo address when I go to a regular laptop or desktop but with Iphone I am unable to to retrieve this password because it does not give you an option to change a password. What shall I do to correct this problem?

It's the same password.  Go to settings - mail - yahoo - enter the password for your incoming and outgoing mail server.

  • I am having probs. using photo elements 10  opening i-photo files

I cannot open i-photo files with photoshop elements 10. It gives me a program fault message. Can anyone help?

The only solution we were able to come up with is mirroring screens (where everything seems to work ok) as a temporary work around - they are sending the issue to their engineers and have scheduled a followup with me for 4 days from now. The only other option seems to be to revert back to 10:10:1 if you have Time Machine set up. I'll followup when I know more.
