Using Photoshop over RDP

Hi,
I'm asked to install Photoshop to a number of people.
I'm looking for advices/opinion/experiences about using Photoshop over RDP served by a W2008R2 (virtual) and accessed by  Wyse ThinOS box, over a 100Mb/full, wired network.
Is it total nonsense, due to lossy RDP compression ?
Thanks

Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry for late response. You can use Photoshop though RDP serer 2008 R2 but as you know that there is specific consideration which need to take place for RDP to any system and working with such kind of software. We need to have good network bandwidth, screen
solution and many different aspects need to consider. For more details you can go through below article for performance tuning.

Hope it helps!
Thanks.

  • Error message when using Photoshop over the network

I am currently working with Apple Aperture. My library is on my computer and references files that are saved over a network on a hard drive connected to another computer. I open an image that is within Aperture having set my primary editor as Photoshop. This creates an automatic duplicate of the image within Aperture so that any changes I make in Photoshop will be a second image and will not affect the original. Normally what is supposed to happen is that once I have made my change in Photoshop, I hit Apple+S to save and then it will update within Aperture. However, when I hit to save, I get the following error message:
Could not save "file.tiff" because the file is already in use or was left open.
I know that on my computer and the other computer I connect to that is definitely not open. Not even in Finder. I tried closing Aperture and then saving and I still get the error message. I am not sure what is going on and why I can't save it. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Try to save in different location and different format not in tiff like PSD. close the photoshop and repon once and open PSD file and save as into tiff in different location.
    just try with this...

  • Lightroom to Photoshop Over a Network

I use my Macbook Pro as my main computer and have been testing out keeping my files on an HD connected to my old G4 with the catalog on my laptop. It seems to work out OK except for when I try to edit files in Photoshop. I get a dialog box that says that the files are in use or left open, and I can't save them. Is there any way around this?
I'm using 10.4.11 on both computers, and I'm connecting over ethernet.

Be very careful trying to use Photoshop over a network. There are some major bugs in how PS handles files on network servers that can corrupt your files entirely. The bugs used to be fixed but came back recently. Not everybody has them, but it is dangerous enough to not do it. In my experience Lightroom itself works fine if you have images on a network server. You just need you catalog file to be on a local harddisk.

  • My Adobe trial for Photoshop Elements 10 for the Mac was over and I wanted to buy the application. The screen message was "Your trial has expired...but the fun doesn't have to end! Buy now to continue using Photoshop Elements 10 without having to download

My Adobe trial for Photoshop Elements 10 for the Mac was over and I wanted to buy the application. The screen message was "Your trial has expired...but the fun doesn't have to end! Buy now to continue using Photoshop Elements 10 without having to download or re-install. " and then the button "Buy Now". When I hit the Buy Now button I am put in a field to buy Photoshop Elements 13, with no way to change to Elements 10. I do not want to go through the hassle of reinstalling etc. In fairness, it's been over a month since making the decision to buy. Still, I consider this a nightmare. Any ideas on how to buy the app I've got withou having to purchase a whole new one? Thanks.
If worse comes to worse, will I need to uninstall the trial if I buy a new version? Can I use part of it lime download assistant?

Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.  If you wish to purchase an older version you will have to find and take your chances with a third party vendor.

  • When to use Paint over Photoshop?

Im newer to Photoshop so its easier for me to throw my images into Paint to resize and crop them.
I was curious if other community members ever use Microsoft Paint for tasks and if so what?
Also, should I be doing this or would it benefit me to use Photoshop for resizing and croping images?  I plan on using Photoshop but I rarely have it open since I mostly use the development programs within CS5 and it takes magnitudes longer to open Photoshop than Paint.  But even with Fireworks running and the image attended for Fireworks I still through my image into paint because it seems faster.  Am I dumb? Should I give up the paint? Some hot keys for this task probably would be better ahhhh... any insight?
    Thanks,

I do not think that I have used MS Paint, since about Windows 2.0. I did not even realize that it was still around.
I just use PS for everything, with the exception of JPEG's, with bum header info, that PS will not open. Then, I just use either ThumbsPlus, or IrfanView, to Open, then Save with proper header info.
I do not have any data on the Scaling (Resizing) algorithms in Paint, but would think that those in PS would be better. They do offer you a good range of choices, but maybe Paint has similar? Same when Cropping. What part of those operations do you find easier in Paint?
Though I use PS a lot, and have for a very long time, image editing software is but a tool in a process. Using the right tool, or the one that the artist is most comfortable with, is the trick. I use Painter (now Corel) for a lot of treatments, but almost always finish up in PS. Over the decades, PS has become closer to Painter, than in days past. Still, there are treatments that I want to apply in Painter, and part of those choices will be my personnal comfort level. I might have something very similar in my newer PS, but if I know every step by heart in Painter, my comfort level rises.
Use what you like for different operations, but I would do a visual check with an operation, like Scale/Resize. Do the same exact operation in each program, using the same base Image, and the same exact settings. Compare the results of the two programs critically.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Pass Through Auth Not Using Novell eDirectory Over RDP - Virtual Desktop

    Hi,
I have installed and configured SGD and the Virtual Desktop Adapter to a Virtual Center server. So far that whole side of things is working great. Machines are cloned, prepped and connected to by users through the My Desktop link in SGD. Now that I am attempting to perfect the master template I have encountered some issues. The network here is Novell eDirectory and at the moment when the desktop is launched the username and password used to authenticate to the SGD webtop are passed through to the Virtual Machine, but it seems that they are passed through to the Windows Authentication System/GINA even though the Novell client is in place.
The virtual machines are Windows XP and by default none of the user accounts exist locally, so of course the login fails. This drops the user back to the login box where it can be seen that the Workstation Only tick box is checked. Settings in the Novell client to always default to eDirectory authentication, forget last setting used etc has all been set properly. Even when hiding the Workstation Only tickbox the username and password are passed to local system authentication still.
I need to get the username and password sent to the Novell eDirectory authentication system/GINA in order for Zenworks to create the user on the local system. When dropping back to the login box and manually unticking the Workstation Only box login proceeds normally. Drives are mapped and the local user account is created by the Zenworks agent.
Is SGD specifically targeting an authentication subsystem within the virtual machine, regardless of your installed authentication handler/GINA preference order? Can I get SGD to pass the details to the Novell client? Barring that is there some way I can prevent SGD passing the details? I tried turning off some of the authentication details caching etc but some of that is needed to rename the virtual machines after the user connecting. For the time being having users authenticate twice would be acceptable, having them login in, then get an error message, then manually unticking Workstation Only then relogging in is not acceptable.
I have been searching these forums, Novell forums, Terminal Server forums for answers but so far nothing has been of any help. Please note that the login box is not the cut down/windows only login box that users are seen when they connect over RDP to a machine that already has a user logged in locally. There is no user logged in locally and the full login box is presented once the login failed message is cleared.
Any help, or even a nudge in the right direction would be great.
    Thanks
    Russ

    Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I tried the full context user name path as well, but its defiantly just being passed to a different GINA. The only credentials that determine if you have RDP access to a server is the local machines credentials, so Microsoft have the service pass authentication straight to the Microsoft GINA non-interactively instead of honouring the installed GINA's. So it will fail no matter what I put in since the account doesn't exist locally yet. People have implemented solutions that depend on Active Directory domains, but that's what I am trying to avoid.
In that situation the AD Domain would allow access to the local machine based on Windows permissions, and a registry setting TSAutoLogin or something would trigger the Novell log in in parallel to map the Netware shared volumes. With no domain you can't get the initial log in triggered for the Novell client to kick in.
Connecting to the virtual machine using an RDP client without pre-entering authentication information does show the Novell Login (NWGINA) with all the right settings in place, so I have modified the expect (login) script for SGD not to automatically pass log in information through with the RDP connection it makes. The result is a clean Novell login box without any errors that a user can just enter their details into a second time.

  • Has anyone experienced there computer freezing up when useing Photoshop CS4 or SC5

My two computers both freeze up when I am useing Photoshop (working with a large file 82-120 megs with  multiple layers, channels and paths) it only ocurred when useing Photoshop. Otherwise the computrs works fine for every day tasks for buseniss and personal use, admittedly, I do not have any other resource intnsive applications other then QuickBooks or maybe a large Excel spreadsheet but I have no problem with these large files. I am not a gamer or I could try a game I hear that they can be resorce intensive.
My first computer is used for personal and business. this computer has a number of programs on it, including Kaspersky internet security but it is not lacking in resorces, It is a Intel based computer, sporting Intel quad core 2.5 GHz CPU. running on a  32 bit Windows 7 operating system, its list of components are 4 gig ram, Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT graphics card (on the Adobe approval list sporting open GL) 4 sata hard drives, 750 watt power supply, Asus P5N-D SLI motherboard, the tower case has 7 fans and the CPU is water cooled.
I run Photoshop CS4 on this unit.
after I experienced this loss of critical files I call the tech support line to see if they could help with recovery of the file and to ask if they had a way to prevent this from occuring again.
They said that I could wave bye bye to the file and the work, additionaly they said if I was working with large files like that, I should be runing a 64 bit system that could utilize additional memory.
I really like working with the large files so I bit the bullet and spent the money for the 2nd computer that I would use as a dedicated Photoshop workstation.
the second system has many of the same components because they have worked admirably. the key difference is as followes. 8gig ram, 64 bit Windows 7 operating system, Photoshop CS5 and the only other software is the drivers for the wacom intos4 tablet. I desided not to install any type of antivirus program because I will not be useing it on the internet except when it needs to connect to Adobe for whatever. my decision not to install antivirus can be reversed but I did not want any questions about it slowing up the computer.
This system with Photoshop CS5, freezes up faster then the CS4 system.
When I say Freezes up what I am referring to is the mouse and keyboard will not respond. Control/alt/delete will not bring up the task manager. Eventually I give up and have to force a shut down by pushing and holding the case start button for about 5 to 8 seconds.
when I restart the system I check the file that I have been working and several times the file that I was working on is corrupted beyond Photoshops ability to open.
I have used the windows 7, on board, memory diagnostics and it claims that all of the memory is fine I have reviewed the event logs and the only critacal errors are about the system being improperly shuting down. I even went to the trouble to click on the link for each error that will take you to Microsofts website and will serch for anything they have about that event and they had no help on the event.
People with mac computers have had a similar problem that had to do with there fonts and plugins, but I do not have a mac and I have not installed any plugins. The CS5 is as it came from the factory and the Mac people kicked me out telling me to get over on my side of the street where the rest of the windows outcast are but that was only after they thought they had there problen solved. Its so funny, but losing these files is not, Please Help

Thanks everyone for jumping in with both feet.
Let me review what I have already done.
(1). I have already witnessed how the wround driver for the tablet will wrack havoc. when I first started the 64 bit version of CS5 it would not recognize any PSD files at all and if you went to the file and right clicked looking for the (open with) dialog box forget-about-it the option for Photoshop was not an option.
I called Adobe tech support and they told me that I was not going to be able to use the Wacom tablet with the 64 bit versionof Photoshop. I found that a little suspicious seeing how Wacom tablets  are the most preferred pen tablets for professional illustrators.
I contacted Wacom and they explained that I needed to uninstall the Wacom tablet, reboot the computer, go to the website, download the new 64 bit drivers and then reinstall the tablet. after I did that. Photoshop found all of my files and opened just fine.It was only then that I found out about the freezing proplem with the 64 Bit version.
A number of the helpful people here have tried to advise this to me but I have already be down tha road.
(2). I have the latest drivers for the BFG Nvidia Geforce 9600 Gt, released in April of this year and I had already new that the were necessary for the open GL so this is one of the first things that I tried.
Some one from our cousin Mac's side of the famaly and (Noel just suggested) that I try turning off the open GL. As soon as cousin Mac asked us to try this I did it (Them being famaly and all).
I was able to give it a try on the 32 bit system on Thursday 7/8/2010.
I was able to work on a very large file with a multitude of layers, channels and paths for about 5 hours before if froze. after the reboot I found that the file was fine and retained everything up to my last save.
But this test is only good as circumstantial evidence because the freezes are somwhat random. They mosly happen after I have been working with a large file for quite some time but some times it can happen very quickly, maybe 25 or 30 minutes.
Bye the way I really enjoy the humor, the Mac people are very serious people.
the Mac users are just grouchy because they expect their computers to "just work", and of course they don't.
We PC users have been given no such expecatations. THANKS NOEL
Oh, don't worry about them mean old grumpy PC wanna be Mac peoples. Gota luv it THANKS dec9
and Eight thousand dollar papper weight says it all. THANKS $8000paperweight.
    (3) the memory, CPU and mother board can not be ruled out  completly, just yet
As for the memory I have used the on board windows 7 diagnostics and it passed. but this is a unreliable test for hevy-resource dependent applications and a load or stress test would need to be done to be confidend.
I have a number of computers with the same kind of ram but after swaping them around I can not say that I have had any lasting results and it is compecated by experiences like what happened to me after turning off the open GL. What if I had of only worked for 4 hours? I would of thought that the problem was solved thats what would of happened
Do any of you work with files like I have been talking about? and if so do you experience any problems?
The motherboard can not be rulled out by any tests that I know of other then process of elimination which is at the heart of all sound diagnostics.
I downloaded a utility that is helpful called (Cupid Z) that gives real time monitoring and idenification of components. All the voltages seem fine.A.
I hope I will be able to up load the screen shots so you all can have a look see.
The CPH is more than likely not the problem.
I do have the option to install Photoshop on a third computer that has most of the same components but has a different Intel CPU. this would rull out any compatability issues (CPU with the Board) but if that were the case I dought that every other progrem under the sun works fine except Photoshop.
dec9, I did delete the prefs on the 32bit system but I have not had time to test the operation of Photoshop as of yet.
Lastly I will try to upload the screen shots of (Cupid Z) you will see that the latencys and the frequency are correct. Under the SPDscreen the plausible timinigs for verious common frequencies are given,, all seem to be with in range. The lantency are inside the spec.given by Corsair;s website
Asus provides a utility that allows you to monitor Temptures and voltages and I hope to send you a screen shot of this and you can see that they all are correct.
I would like to send the event log but I am not sure how to do that if someone could give me the 411 on how to do this I will send them to you I have saved the errors in several file formats but I cant see how you cold read them on this little page Thanks again POBOX119 signing off

  • Can I use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with creative cloud photography?

I'm really confused by this subscription pricing. If I purchase the $9.99/month, do I get the full desktop app of Photoshop and Lightroom? But I see on this page Products they list something called Photoshop CC that costs twice as much. How is that different from the Creative Cloud Photography?
My main question is whether I can use photoshop text styles and photoshop actions with Creative Cloud Photography, since I just purchased a bundle that includes these and I want to be able to use them. But I'd also like to understand what comes with all of the various products and how they are different.
My other question is how is Lightroom different from Photoshop? I have a sense of what you can do in Photoshop but I don't know much about Lightroom at all.
One more question: the free trial -- is it limited in any way besides the time length? If I do that, will I get a clear idea of all that I will be able to do once I subscribe, or are the functions limited in the trial?
I tried to just send an email to Adobe to ask these questions but apparently they are not interested in responding to emails from people who are not yet paying customers, so I was directed here. Thanks very much for your help!

I always like to trot this bit about Bridge once in a while or in the voice of the "Two Bobs" from Office Space,
"Can you tell us exactly what it is you do around here?"
    What Adobe Bridge does:
Bridge is the coordinating hub of the Creative Suite. Synchronizing color management settings for all suite programs is done from Bridge, and can only be done from Bridge, to take one important use.
Bridge displays actual thumbnails of many more file types than Finder or Explorer. It also allows instant play of sound or video files more readily than the native OS file managers.
Bridge allows direct access to file metadata, to embed copyright information  and keywords where appropriate (e.g., for corporate logo vector and raster files). It also displays the fonts used in an InDesign file, the swatches in an INDD or AI and the output plates (including spot color plates) they use.
When managing the assets for a design project, Bridge allows quick and simple sorting, rating and custom labeling (with color flash indications) of assets. I can rate images according to whether they are rejects, possibles, for review by client, or approved. The filters built into Bridge allow instant isolation of only the approved images or designs in a folder, only the rejects (for deletion) or only files with certain ratings, no matter how many files it contains. It recognizes aspect ratios, so if I only need a landscape or a 16:9 image in a folder of hundreds of images, I turn off the aspect ratios I don't need.
Once filtered, the remaining visible files can be selected and copied, moved, or deleted without affecting the rest of the contents of a folder.
Collections are a massively useful feature. One of my clients is a performing arts center, and in a season we turn out dozens of ads, flyers, brochures, web banners, playbills, billboards and other collateral using the same assets over and over. These assets are organized by artist and/or show on disk, but I set up each season's repeating assets as a Collection in Bridge, so that I just have to open the collection and drag and drop these assets into new INDD, AI, PSD, HTML (in Dreamweaver), FLA or AE projects without having to navigate from folder to folder picking up individual files.
Bridge's Favorites is another place I stack frequently-accessed folders, such as stock photography, backgrounds, and top-level folders for active projects.
Assets can be divided into subfolders, but a quick toggle of "Show items from subfolders" exposes all of the assets in a single view while maintaining their organization. I will typically keep AIs, PSDs, EPSs, stock photography and client images in separate subfolders within a project. When I'm ready to start pulling assets into an InDesign layout, I toggle this on and simply drag what I need into the layout.
Bridge comes with Adobe Camera Raw built in, which is many times faster than using Photoshop to adjust jpegs or tiffs for things like tonal range, white balance, cropping, spotting and sharpening, and is non-destructive.
One tremendously useful Bridge function for InDesign CS5+ users is the "Show linked files" feature, which opens all the linked files in a layout into a single view, regardless of where they are physically located. I often use this when doing alternative layouts from a client-approved mockup for a campaign, to be certain the same assets are used in each piece, or when creating a motion graphic or interactive piece for the campaign in After Effects or Flash.
The batch and image processing scripts built into Bridge automate things like creating web-ready small jpegs from multiple images, renaming large numbers of files in place or by copying to an alternative location, creating sets of PSD, png, jpeg or other file types from an assortment of image files, and so on.
Bridge is so much a part of my daily workflow that on my main workstation I have one monitor dedicated to it almost 100%. Bridge just sits open 24/7, ready for use. I would run at half speed without it, no question.

Want to edit image using photoshop elements
    Did the following
IPhoto>Preferences>Advanced>Edit Photos: In drop down menu chose in Photoshop Elements
Also control click and chose edit in external editor
Drop down menu edit photos in external program>photoshop Elements
Go to to the image I'm working on  --- selected the image, the clicked on edit. When nothing happened I double clicked the image. Still elements didn't open. Then I opened the Elements editor, went back to iphoto and tried the entire process again. the photo still didn't open on Elements 13 for editing.
I have 3 Elements 13 books as well as looked on line--all my references say the exact same thing ---- iPhoto>Preferences>advanced>edit in external program>photoshop Elements
I uninstalled and reinstalled both iPhoto as well as Elements.
I spoke with application technical support.  There appears to be nothing wrong with my copy of iPhoto.  However there is no support from Adobe.  I waited for over 1.5 hours for chat support several days ago, and finally gave up.

You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

  • Using Photoshop Elements to edit raw.  Doesn't recognize file type

I recently downloaded photoshop elements to use as my editor within Iphoto. I've set it up as the default editor in preferences, and made the appropriate change in the advanced settings within Iphoto so that it exports edits in RAW. When I attempt to edit by double clicking, Photoshop Elements gives me a msg that it can't open file because it does not recognize the file type. Does anyone know why this would be? I am using a Nikon D60. I haven't downloaded the Nikon software onto the computer (not sure if that has anything to do with it). Does photoshop elements need anything additional? Any help appreciated.
    Thx
    Richie

    Richie:
As Terence mentioned we can help with using PSE within iPHoto but why PSE doesn't recognize the D60 files is an Adobe issue. I believe there are Adobe plugins available to handle RAW files. Check the Adobe site for those. For using PSE to edit jpgs within iPhoto this may be of some help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Editing a DNG file and saving it again as DNG using Photoshop

    Hi everyone,
I have a set of .dng raw images which I would like to edit using Photoshop and save back out as .dng files.  It sounds like a very simple task, but I have been struggling with this for half a day.
To give a concrete example, I have two dng images from the same camera. I want to copy an object from one image and paste it to the other, and then save out the output as a .dng file.  This should take me like 2 minutes in Photoshop, right?
Well, when I open the files, it first brings up the Adobe Camera Raw tool, but this only lets me do very basic edits (I can't figure out how to copy an object from one image to another, let alone perform the necessary edits to blend them seamlessly.).
So I click "Open Image" to get them into Photoshop, where I can do all of my necessary edits (copy and paste, brushes, etc.).  However, after I am finished and I try to save my edits, Photoshop only lets me save the output in .psd (along with other formats) but not dng.  I need to save it back out as .dng, as the next program in our workflow pipeline requires .dng files as input.  So how do I do this simple task?
Why can't I save my resulting image back out as a .dng file?  I tried saving as .psd and then using Adobe DNG converter to turn it into a dng, but it doesn't seem to be able to do that.  I also tried saving as Photoshop RAW, but for some reason the converter can't convert from Photoshop RAW to DNG.  It doesn't make any sense to me.
I know that Photoshop knows my camera parameters because it was able to read the original dng files properly in the first place.  So why can't I read in the .dng image make some edits and then save it?  How are people editing dng files?
    Thanks for your help.

Also, there is no way to turn an image back into raw image data after it has been edited in Photoshop. It would be as difficult as uncooking an egg.
I understand that this is difficult if I am doing arbitrary image editing operations, since those operations may not be properly defined in the RAW space.  But in this case I am cloning pixels from one .dng image to another.  Shouldn't this be possible?
For example, assume we have 2 dng images and we want to take the left half of one and paste it in the same position over the other.  I am not familiar with the dng spec, but at some level it should encode the values at each pixel (perhaps with the appropriate camera curve).  So I just simply want to overwrite the values of one .dng image with values at the same pixels of the other, and since it's the same camera with the same settings used for both this should be possible, right?  In the worst case, I could write a program based on the DNG spec that parses the two dng files, overwrites the necessary pixel information simply using the second image's data, and then writes the dng back out.  But this seems like a complicated way to do something that there should be an Adobe tool to do.
Perhaps it would help if I tell you exactly why I need this for.  We are capturing raw video using the Blackmagic Cinema Camera which outputs a directory full of 2.5k dng images for each take.  We were doing a take of a scene using a tripod, but an otherwise great take was ruined because at one point a crew member poked their head into frame.   So I want to use information from the other dng frames to overwrite this portion of this image to hide this problem.
If these were regular images (.jpg, .tif, .exr) it would take us no time in Photoshop to use the information from the other "good" frames to fix this problem seamlessly.  However, we would like to keep everything in dng format so that I can then read everything into DaVinci Resolve for color grading correctly.   Any idea on how I can do this, if I can't use Photoshop?
Thank you in advance for your help!

  • No Soundbooth Playback Playing Audio over RDP Connection

    Hello...
After searching in vain for a solution to this problem in a multitude of different places and coming-up empty, I thought it worthwhile to try asking everyone here to see if you can please help me. Here's my dilemma:
My company purchased Adobe eLearning Suite 2 which comes with Adobe Soundbooth. We installed it on a high-powered PC that I share with other eLearning developers. I am using Microsoft RDP to remote-into the PC with eLearning Suite and am attempting to perform some simple edits on an existing WAV file using Soundbooth. I am not interested in recording via RDP as I understand it is not possible to do this via Windows XP. Playback of audio files works perfectly fine from other applications on the remote PC with eLearning Suite. I can even play-back and make very simple edits of audio directly via Captivate 5. Just not from Soundbooth.
When attempting to play an audio file over RDP, the playhead refuses to move. If I go to Edit / Preferences / Audio Hardware, I see that the Default Device shown is Soundbooth 3.0 WDM Sound, with Output Mapping of Microsoft RDP Audio Driver (emulated) - 1 and Microsoft RDP Audio Driver (emulated) - 2 for left and right channel, respectively.
    I have tried the following:
    1. Changed default device to Soundbooth 3.0 DirectSound. This changed the Left and Right output mappings to "no audio device - 1 and -2" respectively. In this configuration, the playhead moves and the audio level meter shows activity, but again, there is (of course) no audible sound.
    2. Under the original Soundbooth 3.0 DirectSound device, turned-off Device 32-bit Playback. No change in the problem. The playhead refuses to move when play is clicked.
If someone can provide some suggestions on how to resolve this issue, I would really appreciate it! For now, whenever I need to edit a file, I have to hoof-it to the Adobe PC and perform my edits "in-person".
    Thanks!
    Chris

The sound does playback locally.  I decided to use YouTube to reproduce the issue (with success).  I then decided to hit other sites using other similar plugins to see if audio playback would work and they did (for Shockwave and QuickTime).  As far as if this worked before?... I can't say that for sure.  Where I work, we use a lot of VM technologies to perform testing and I usually use Fabulatech's USB over Network client/server solution to have access to audio devices from a VM, but that's when I'm not using a Remote Desktop Client (using RDP) and use a different remote interface (like a browser plugin: e.g., VMware's Lab Manager) for viewing the operating system screen.  Lately I have been using the Remote Desktop Client more and more because it's just a better tool for getting to VMs remotely than the other less primitive options (which require extra utilities tp support such things like audio).  I will post a new bug report, thanks!

  • Cannot open Photoshop CS4 files using Photoshop 7

Hi - I would be very grateful if anyone has solved this problem before and can help me.
I am trying to send a smallish (5 Mb) layered CMYK Photoshop file from my version (CS4) to someone who is still using Photoshop 7 but they are completely unable to open it. I have saved it using 'Maximize Compatibility' and there are just 3 layers, no fancy layer effects, no layer sets, and each layer has a transparent background. Every time the other person tries to open it (via File -> Open), their Photoshop hangs and they have to force quit. It will open in Graphic Converter but it is then saved as a flattened image which is no good. I'm at my wits' end what to do to get this to open in PS7 - does anyone have any ideas?
    I am using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac Pro, OS X 10.6.3; they are using Photoshop 7 on a G4 867 DP, OS X 10.4.11.
    Thanks very much -
    Deb.

If anyone else should come across this sort of problem, here's the scoop:
It's a metadata parsing bug in Photoshop 7 and CS/8 (version 3-6 no problem, version 9-12 no problem).  It is caused by the history metadata in the file, possibly because of the length of the history, possibly because of the InDesign history bits.  I don't have a MacOS 10.1 system avaialble to debug Photoshop 7 any more, so I can't be positive about the exact cause.  But we know that Photoshop CS2 and later work just fine.
If you wait 30 minutes, Photoshop 7 does eventually load the file.  But that hurts productivity.
The history metadata can't easily be deleted in Photoshop (or ImageReady, Fireworks, etc.).  But if you copy the layers to a new document, the history metadata won't be carried over.  Save the copy, and that copy will work just fine in Photoshop 7 and CS/8.

  • Photoshop over-saturating images when saving for web

I've spent most of the day recalibrating my monitor.
I now use a gamma setting of 2.2, and target white point of D65.
My color workspace is sRGB IE661966-2.1.
    I'm using Photoshop CS3.
So I've tried converting an image (even though I am already working in the same color workspace) to sRGB IE661966-2.1 and when I do a Save-for-web, Adobe gives me an over-saturated image.
Now, while in Photoshop I move the save-for-web window lower so I can visually compare the image in photoshop to the one presented in the save-for-web dialog, and they are still different.
    I am at loss.
I could understand if I went to another computer and viewed the image, or went to another browser and viewed the image, but even in Photoshop, I'm seeing oversaturation.
To compensate, I've been desaturating my images, but this is frustrating, as I feel it should work.
Can anyone shed some light on this matter?
    I'm running OS X v. 10.4.11
    a dual processor Intel dual-core 2.66GHZ zeon
    2 GB RAM
    Monitor is a Dell 2407WFPHC

    >> I wouldn't want the other apps to assume sRGB for an untagged image, because
That's a fair opinion...[I] would want an option to set an RGB Default profile in ColorSync, though, because the 'high-gamut' monitor I had here whacked out Finder, Preview, iPhoto color, and that setting would 'fix' the problem across the Mac OS.
The last time I saw this ColorSync RGB Default option was in 10.3x
    http://www.gballard.net/psd/cswfi/panthercs.jpg
But according to Apple's John Gnaegy, when I asked him WHY that setting wasn't working here:
He said, "The ColorSync panel> Default Profiles tab headline is wrong.
"I certainly understand why you would think (that ColorSync's RGB Default setting is Assigned to iPHOTO documents that do not contain embedded profiles), but that's not what happens. Untagged images are instead represented by the profile of the preferred (Default) display," said John.
It appears some people at Apple understand the issues -- default 1.8 gamma, default monitor RGB, trying to set up ColorSync option to set a Default RGB -- but it also seems like Apple is very slow and stubborn to change...
