Using PHP mail

I am trying to send an email with php.  Here is my simple code:
$to = $email;    $subject = "subject";    $message = "message";    $header = "From:[email protected] \r\n";    $success= mail ($to,$subject,$message,$header);    if( $success== true )     {       echo "Message sent";    }    else    {       echo "Message not sent.";    }
I get the success message, but I never receive the e-mail.  Why don't I get the e-mail?

Have you sent the message from a system that has a mail server running?
The PHP mail() function usually sends via a local mail server, typically fronted by a sendmail binary on Linux, BSD and OS X platforms, however, Windows usually doesn't include a local mail server; PHPMailer's integrated SMTP implementation allows email sending on Windows platforms without a local mail server.

  • Cannot use php mail() function in leopard's localhost

    <?php
    $to = "[email protected]";
    $subject = "test subject";
    $message = "test message";
    $from = "[email protected]";
    $headers = "From: $from";
    mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers)
    ?>
    This code doesn't work on my localhost but when I uploaded it to my sever it run normaly. Then how can I use the mail function on my localhost to test it before I need to publish it to my server

    Have you started the mail server on your machine?
    By default PHP will try to use the local mail server to send the message. If you haven't started Postfix the message will go nowhere.

  • ANN: Tutorial on using PHP mail() safely

    Time and time again, I see requests for help with PHP mail() scripts that use a very common, but insecure technique: inserting an unfiltered email address into the From header.
    There are two things wrong with this:
    The From header is meant to indicate where the email originates. When using the mail() function, it's your website that originates the message, not whoever submits the form. To reply to the person submitting the form, you should use the Reply-to header.
    You should NEVER put unfiltered user input into the header argument of the mail() function.
    I have created a tutorial explaining how to remain safe by using the PHP filter_input() function to check the validity of an email field before creating a Reply-to header. It's on my website at http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/email.php.

    Thanks, CF. I've been teaching how to avoid email header injection in my books for years, but I've noticed so many people still using insecure code that I decided it was time for an online tutorial.

  • Cant use php mail command on localhost after firefox update

    I'm making a website on my desktop using wamp. And i'm working on a mail contact form. Now before Firefox updated to the new version the email was sent fine. Now after the update it doesnt sent anymore.
    So i tested using Internet Explorer. And email sents fine.

    It's hard to think of how a Firefox change would affect your PHP form processing...
    Can you tell whether Firefox is failing to submit data, or has changed any headers it sends?
    Is this a normal form submit or using XMLHttpRequest?

  • Need help with PHP mail script

    I  have created a  log in system  . In that when the  user completes the  registration process an auto reply(auto-reply@domain)  will generate and  sent this to users email id regarding about the user  name and password  (Lo gin Details). After formal approval from the admin  the user will  get a user activation mail with log in link.

  • PDF Form Using E-Mail shows same PDF

    Hi All,
    I downloaded and installed the 'TutWD_EmailInteractiveForm'.
    ("Offline Interactive PDF Form Using E-Mail" in the
    /docs/DOC-8061#47)
    I customized the readInbox method in the EmailInteractiveFormComp.
    I deleted the source of "if (message<i>.getSubject().equals("Travel Request Form"))".
    After I executed, there are 3 records in the window(ReceivedView).
    Next, I clicked the 1st row and show the 1st row's pdf.
    Then I return to the list, and click the 2nd row.
    But it shows a 1st row's pdf!
    Is there a person who became the same phenomenon?
    Please give me some ideas!!
    Regards,
    Hiromitsu

    You can submit whole PDF format as long as you enable usage rights on the PDF.
    Normally Adobe Reader users can only submit the data, XFDF, FDF, XDP, XML.
    To enable usage rights on the PDF you will need to use Adobe Acrobat Std/Pro.
    As for the PHP Script; it depends on your PHP web server capabilities.
    The script will be slightly different, if the server uses PHP Mail or PHP PEAR.
    Just attach the submission to an email and send.
    If the client is submitting the form from a standalone pdf reader app, you can also respond with a success or failure FDF \status message; otherwise, you can redirect to a success / failure URL.

    My wife has left me for four weeks, favouring to be with our son who lives 4,000 km away. I now have to cook for myself and the steaks taste horrible. What am I doing wrong?
    If you do not know what I have (not) done to make the steak taste horrible, my question is as hard to answer as your question above.

    Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

    Ok problem solved :)
    Problem was between oracle and MS exchange server. Live server oracle 9i is on linux, and testing server works on windows.
    So the problem was with configuration. Our admins corrected it and now works :). I don't know details.

  • PHP mail() function not working

    Hello, I am having a problem sending mail with php while hosting my own website with apache on my mac. First of all I would like to note that I do not have a large background with web hosting and php. Everything that I did so far was just suggestions from online articles and other forums, so please include detail with any answers.
    I have apache started, and my website hosted just fine. I can also view php pages so I know php is running too. My problem is using the php mail() function.
    I have a simple form in my site who's action attribute is set to results.php. In the results.php file I have the mail() function (along with html code displaying "thank you...blah blah blah") sending info from the form to my email address. I never get an error on the php side, but my mail never gets sent.
    Is there some type of setting in a config file that need to be turned on or changed?
    Here is what I have done/modified so far from my research from online articles. i dont know what some of them mean, but followed the steps correctly:
    Edited the /etc/hostconfig file and added the line MAILSERVER=-YES-
    Edited the /etc/postfix/main.cf file and uncommented the #myhostname = ...line and made it "myhostname = localhost" (without quotes)
    Edited the php.ini file to the following - The line under where it says
    ; For unix only. You may supply arguments as well (default: "sendmail -t -i")
    Sendmail_path = usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i
    I opened the mail.log file and here are some entries from the other day:
    Code:

    Any other suggestions on how to get this to work? I have also created a simple php file that sends mail without retreiving info from a form and also tried using several different email addresses to send to and from, but still nothing

    Edited the /etc/postfix/main.cf file and uncommented the #myhostname = ...line and made it "myhostname = localhost" (without quotes) Change that to mail.yourispname.com Then run sudo postfix reload and see if it sends mail. The reason being, is that you don't have a fully qualified domain name.
    And make that reflective in your mail() function file/template.

    I'm trying to collect data from a form and email it.  I'm using form2mail.php and the problem is that the email is not collecting the form info and it has the same email address in the From: and To: lines. I'm really stuck and would appreciate any help.

    Using PHP to process an online form and send the input by email is very simple. The mail() function takes a minimum of three arguments, namely: the address the mail is being sent to, the subject line, and the body of the email as a single string. The reason some people use scripts like form2mail.php is because they don't have the knowledge or patience to validate the user input to make sure it's safe to send.
    Rather than attempt to trawl through your complex form looking for the problems, I would suggest starting with a couple of simple tests.
    First of all, create a PHP page called mailtest.php containing the following script:
    <?php
    $to = '[email protected]'; // use your own email address
    $subject = 'PHP mail test';
    $message = 'This is a test of the mail() function.';
    $sent = mail($to, $subject, $message);
    if ($sent) {
      echo 'Mail was sent';
    } else {
      echo 'Problem sending mail';
    ?>
    Save the script, upload it to your server, and load it into a browser. If you see "Mail is sent", you're in business. If not, it probably means that the hosting company insists on the fifth argument being supplied to mail(). This is your email address preceded by -f. Change the line of code that sends the mail to this:
    $sent = mail($to, $subject, $message, null, '[email protected]');
    Obviously, replace "[email protected]" with your own email address.
    If this results in the mail being sent successfully, you will need to adapt the code in form2mail.php to accept the fifth parameter. You need to change the following line, which is a few lines from the end of the script:
    if (!mail($MailToAddress, $MailSubject, $mailMessage,$mailHeader))
    Change it to this:
    if (!mail($MailToAddress, $MailSubject, $mailMessage,$mailHeader, '[email protected]'))
    Again, use your own email address instead of "[email protected]".
    Once you have determined whether you need the fifth argument, test form2mail.php with a very simple form like this:
    <form id="form1" name="form1" method="post" action="form2mail.php">
      <p>
        <label for="name">Name:</label>
        <input type="text" name="name" id="name" />
      </p>
      <p>
        <label for="email">Email:</label>
        <input type="text" name="email" id="email" />
      </p>
      <p>
        <label>
          <input type="checkbox" name="options[]" value="boat cleaning" id="options_0" />
          Boat cleaning</label>
        <br />
        <label>
          <input type="checkbox" name="options[]" value="RV cleaning" id="options_1" />
          RV cleaning</label>
        <br />
        <label>
          <input type="checkbox" name="options[]" value="motorcycle cleaning" id="options_2" />
          Motorcycle cleaning</label>
      </p>
      <p>
        <input type="submit" name="send" id="send" value="Submit" />
      </p>
    </form>
    If that works, you can start to make the form more complex and add back your JavaScript validation.

  • Why doesn't JavaMail work, but PHP mailer does?

    I am trying to use JavaMail to send emails from my webserver. I've plugged in the host and the addresses are valid, but I am getting 550 errors. I've searched and found that I should change a setting on my mail server to allow relays from my webserver. However, we have a PHP mailer working on our webserver now, so presumably that relay is already in there. Why does the PHP work but the JavaMail doesn't?

    Can you turn on session debugging and post the protocol trace that shows the failure?
    The error codes alone are not enough, you usually need to look at the message included
    with the error code.
    Also, have you found the JavaMail FAQ?

  • Using PHP to process submitted PDF Form and Upload FDF to Server

    Hi All,
    I have a PDF form online (created in Acrobat 9.0 Pro, NOT LiveCycle Designer!) that, once a user has filled it out and clicks the submit button, I want two things to happen:
    1) I want the data from the form to be submitted to a custom PHP script, which I can do several different things with (store the data in a MySQL database, for example).
    2) I would also like to upload/store/save (not sure of the proper vernacular) the filled out form (FDF file) to the web server.
    Now what I need from you lovely people, either directly, or point me to where I can find the following:
    1) How/What options do I choose for the Submit button in Acrobat 9.0 Pro when I create the PDF?
    2) What/Where can I find a PHP code snippet to get the data from fields in the submitted form?
    3) I know you can set up an Acrobat form to e-mail a copy of the FDF file to a specified e-mail address. Instead of emailing that FDF file, I want to store it directly to a folder on my web server. However, just setting the URL in the submit button to a folder on my web server doesn't seem to do the trick. So, I guess what I need is to somehow reference the FDF file with my custom PHP script... something like $_POST["fdffile"] ???? Please if anyone knows how to do this, please let me know! Because, if I can reference the FDF file, I can then use PHP's built in FTP functions to upload it to a specific folder on my web server.
    Thanks for any input!!!

    HI All,
    can someone please quide me how I can make this code to work for me?
    Where and what folder I have to put this PHP script?
    What my http will be?( I will use localhost)
    What the name of my PDF file(create by LiveCycle Designer)
    What the name of the file I will receive and where(folder) will be send it via the server?
    I see these name below in the PHP script but I can not make out what....
    configuration.php
    administrator/xml
    administrator/pdf
    THANK you

  • Email or store submitted PDF form using PHP

    I'm using LiveCycle Designer 8.0. I've searched a lot but haven't seen any answers or solutions to submitting the filled out pdf form online and the pdf sending to an email without it having to use an email client on the users computer.
    I'd prefer to use php and either save to the server or directly send the pdf as an attachment using the php mail() function. Any language would be fine, I'm just experienced with php.
    If anyone would have a solution to this, I am fully capable of editing scripting to send the correct fields for my particular form. I've just not been able to find a way to store and attach in pdf format. Since the LiveCycle has the built-in function to open your default mail client, attach the pdf, and then send - isn't there some way that function could be edited to use the servers php mail feature instead?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. The reason this has become so important is that the new systems at some doctor's offices are requiring pdf's sent in advance that save in a program that allows the use of digital pen signing (like when you sign for a fedex package) of the documents once the patient arrives. And unfortunately, still many of the patients are not going to be avid pc users and will not have an email client program like outlook set up.
    Thanks much,
    Heather

    Thank you for your answer. I completely understand how to do all the things you mention, have been able to do them - where I can't seem to understand is posting to the web server. Maybe it's just simple and I'm overthinking it. When I set a url to post to, I've been trying to use a php script, but can't get the call right to save or grab the pdf.
    Could you help me with that part? Are you meaning it that way - to post it to a script or am I over-doing it and there's a simpler way?
    I appreciate your help very much.

  • How to get PHP mail() function to WORK?

    The topic title speaks for itself. I only want the exact following code to actually send an e-mail, just as it does on any external server:
    <?php
    mail(<i>an e-mail address</i>, <i>a subject</i>, <i>some text</i>);
    ?>
    Is it possible?
    I have the sendmail_path set to /usr/sbin/sendmail -t -i in php.ini, and MAILSERVER=-YES- in hostconfig.
    I would like to avoid using sendmail's -f option if possible (this does not work for all e-mail addresses anyway).
    Mac mini Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi Neithan,
       If, as your profile indicates, you are using Tiger, you are using postfix when you use the "sendmail" command. Sendmail is no longer installed but postfix comes with an "emulator" to keep legacy stuff from breaking. It's still a good command line method for sending mail.
       I'm not sure if setting MAILSERVER=-YES- causes postfix to listen on the smtp port or just for local connections. However, I thought that local connections were sufficient to send mail. Try it and if it doesn't work use Postfix Enabler. Just remember that changing the hostconfig file doesn't take effect until the next reboot. (or run of SystemStarter)
       Also remember that most ISPs don't accept mail from unrecognized machines anymore.

  • Configure LAMP stack to use internal mail relay without....

    Does anybody know of a way i can configure my new LAMP stack to use the companys internal mail relay without having to implement postfix, or sendmail?  I did already try to implement send mail recently, and its very confusing to me since i have never set up a mail server, and i tried to implement postfix, SOHO i think was the wiki i used, and that never got done either.  It seems incredibly cryptic to someone who even has tons of server experience, just not the email portion.  Maybe the wikis are just written for those who have more experience in making SSL certs, and being more versed in MX records, and DNS for email specific things.  etc...
    Since i have not successfully set up a mail server thus far, i dont have enough general mailer / experience to understand the wikis on setting up Sendmail, etc...
    My company asked me if i could just use their internal mail relay instead.  I would like to know if i still need to set up sendmail to allow PHP mail() function to send out mail, or if theres some configuration somewhere that i can adjust so it can use the existing internal mail relays.
    Note, the only thing im trying to achieve here is to get my apps to send out emails for login password management, and error logs.

    In my experience an SMTP server is preferable to sendmail/postfix as it is far more portable and robust... (in a web environment) many webhosts, for example, pay no heed to the configuration of sendmail - so code that runs on one host fails on another. PHP mail() can be leveraged to use any backend you like but this typically requires root access (or at least permissions beyond those offered on typical hosting services), and, as said above, does not allow for any useful level of error reporting.
    Swiftmailer is (generally) my weapon of choice - unless the particular project has additional PEAR dependencies/requirements that mean it makes sense to stay within the same codebase... not that it (PEAR) is always that consistent anyhow
    I can't really offer much in the way of help with cron integration as that is not a route I have taken - it should think it would be pretty trivial (sic )to implement as you build your script... swiftmailer has some pretty neat "live address" checking routines - have a dig through the docs
