once i click on Learn more on Ping's sidebar, iTunes 10.0.1 is giving me an error states:
+"We could not complete your iTunes Store request.+
+An unknown error occurred (-50).+
+There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."+
what should i do to login to Ping?

Script using ping for server check

Hi Everyone,
I am writing a shell script that needs to check whether or not a service is running on a server. If that services is down, then the script will run a remote script on the server to change ip and hostname, then on the local machine change ip and hostname to those of the remote server.
Any Ideas. I have the basics but need help with the ping of specific services.

My scripting is not what it should be, but the only thing I would use ping for in this scenario would be to make sure I do not try to connect to a system that is down, therefore hanging it. I think it is commands like rlogin and rsh that you are looking to run here.
The idea of changing the ip address and hostname (not obviously in that order) seems fundamentaly flawed here, as if you are connected to the server enough to do a command such as `ps -ef|grep volmgt` to see if a service is running, would it not then be easier to just start the required service in the event of an error from this check. If you are trying to do something like a cluster program, then there are a few important details that you might want to make sure about first, such as exclusive locks on shared data files, etc.
Not sure if this is helping or may get some proper input from other forum members, but I am a bit sceptical about what you are trying to achive here.

How to use ping with orb

hi,
i have an applet that registers with an orb, and a stub that mimicks a controller. the controller controls x number of machines, and has a file of the ip addresses of each machine. is it possible to use the applet to send ping messages to the controller to forward on to each machine to see if the machine is attached to the controller?

What OS are your servers?
If you are using Windows, you can have the applet call a ping() method on the server. The server's ping() meth could do a Runtime.getRuntime() and invoke the exec(String) to invoke "cmd ping xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx". It's a little bit of a pain if you want to read the response from the process though.
If you aren't running windows or you don't care about the actual response you can have a ping() method on the server which opens up a socket to port 7 (the echo port, which just returns what ever you send it). I believe (you'll have to test) that you'll get an I/O error if the machine is turned off. I sorry but I don't know of a port for ping.
Depending on what your planning, you could have each of the 'X' machines register with the controller at start up and then every so often the control calls a isStillConnected() meth which would return a message or a corba error if it's not alive. You'd also have to remove any dead entries.

I'm afraid you don't have continous play for movies etc in the current version of the tv.
If you want to play all the episodes of a DVD one after the other then you will need to encode the whole DVD as a single file, if you include chapter markers you will be able to skip to episodes further into the file if you don't wish to watch all the episodes.

ITunes Store unavailable when using Ping - an observation

When trying to edit my Ping profile I've been encountering an iTunes Store unavailable message as have other I see on these discussion list. I thought it might be related to having recently updated my iMac iTunes to 10.1. However, the same is happening on my MacBook running iTunes 10.0.1 Both have updated to OSX version 10.6.5

Configuration of ping using SNMP rw on Cisco devices

the customer would like to use SNMP RW access for configuration of ping on Cisco devices. He wants to use ping with the following parameters: destination address, length, number of packets and with DF bit set (it is very important for our customer). Is possible to use SNMP RW and which MIB (OID) is possible to use for it?

Extendeing ping with SNMP, unfortunately this is not possible at this point, the only MIB for "ping" features is
CISCO-PING-MIB and it does not contain any OID allowing an extended ping.

I can connect my cisco mobile vpn but can't ping & access internal IP

Hi somebody,
i've configured mobile vpn configuration in cisco 7200 with GNS3. i can connect VPN to my cisco router with cisco vpn client software from outside. but i can't ping to internal ip and can't access internal resources.
My Internal IP is 192.168.1.x . And IP for mobile VPN client from outside is 172.60.1.x.

Using DHCP with a cFP-20XX across a different subnet

I have a cFP-2010 that will work great when set up with a static IP or DHCP as long as it is on the same subnet. If I set it for DHCP then move it to a different subnet, MAX can no longer find it. Do I have to use a static IP when going across subnets, or is there something I'm missing?

Not 100% sure this will work for FieldPoint controllers, but for some
other NI controllers (e.g. CompactRIO) if you give a name to the
controller in MAX and set it to use DHCP, then when its IP address is
assigned by the DHCP server its name is registered as a DNS name. That
means you can use that name to communicate to it from a different
subnet. By using ping commands you should be able to demonstrate if
this works for FieldPoint or not; I believe it should.

[Solved] ping requires root privilages but only if OS run from RAM

I have an odd situation where I can use ping as a regular user from openbox's autostart if I run the OS from storage disks but not if I load the OS into RAM. It only works for a regular user with the OS loaded to RAM when I set the sticky bit.
Can this be a timing problem with systemd not activating a required service in time?

Yep! That's it exactly. I create a root file system archive to speed the loading into RAM. See the exact code below:
sudo tar -vzcf /rootfs.tar.gz / --exclude={/rootfs.tar.gz,/boot/*,/var/cache/pacman/pkg/*,/dev/*,/proc/*,/sys/*,/tmp/*,/run/*,/mnt/*,/media/*,/lost+found}
Adding the --xattrs option to tar solved it.

If you must use ping with Runtime.getRuntime().exec (and a byte input stream) then ...

Using Runtime exec() to open java on other directory

HI, I have a little problem and i hope everyone can help me out abit. You see when u use Runtime.exec(), how to you use it so that when the file you want to open is different from your program directory.
For example,
my program is in c:\windows\desktop
but the file i want to open eg. Somthing.class is in c:\my documents\
How do I open it using java and i wish to open the file using the java command. Thank a million

Can someone explain the /c start /d\"C:\Mydocuments\" java.exe Somthing.
