Using POP not iMap for Gmail in Lion

I set up Gmail using iMAP and I find it utterly unusable. It's trying to download all 100,000 messages onto my new MacBook Air. NO!!!!
I want to use POP—as i have on all my other machines—to access my Gmail, but I can't seem to get the new version of Mail to cooperate.
Can anyone please step me through how to set up POP access to Gmail? Just changing imap.google.com to pop.google.com does not work. If I try to create a new account, the moment I enter gmail.com it automatically set up as IMAP.
So frustrating!

Words almost fail me regarding why this option is not only hidden from view, is not explained in the help text accessed from the '?' button, and needs secret knowledge to get to (or did I miss something basic somewhere?) but thank gawd I found your answer, albeit after an exasperating significant amount of wasted time...

Converting POP to IMAP for Gmail

I've been using the Apple Mail app for many years, to access gmail. I almost never access gmail with a browser. But the gmail account is a POP account, which, now that I have an iPhone, is pretty frustrating.
I understand how to convert the gmail account (disable account on Mac, change account type at Google website, create new IMAP account on Mac). But this will sync my Mac to the mail Google now has. And since I've been managing the whole account from the Mac, and email deletions on the Mac have no effect on Gmail, Gmail has vast amounts of mail that I've deleted from the Mac.
How do I switch to IMAP and get the server to match what's on my Mac?

The basic idea in the article is that you take your whole inbox, drag it to a folder "On My Mac", then switch the account type and set up the IMAP account on the Mac. Then drag all the messages from the folder you created back into your new inbox. You do the same for your sent folder and drafts folder.
It seems that the article implies that when you put the mail back into the new IMAP account in Mac Mail, that the server will sync with it.
Or … I could drag everything into folders "On My Mac" as an archive, delete everything from gmail (is there a way to do that?), then switch and essentially start over.
Or … I could start forwarding all the Gmail POP mail to my icloud mail account and stop checking gmail.
Does any of that make sense? Any other ideas? The idea of going through 4 1/2 years (and 2.5 GB) of mail via googles web interface and making sense of it seems pretty daunting to me.

CUCM 9.1 in VirtualBox - The hardware you are using is not supported for this product

I'm trying to load CUCM licensed through my work onto an oracle VirtualBox running linux redhat, and its unpacking linux fine onto the vbox, and passes the hardware test on boot but when it goes to load I'm getting the error "The hardware you are using is not supported for this product."
I have dedicated to the VM:
4GB ram
4 CPU's (tried 2 and 4)
80GB Hard Drive
What in the world could be jamming this up? Anyone else ever run this or know what the deal is?
Any input is appreciated, thanks!

Push mail is not working for gmail and hotmail on ...

i have been using my nokia e72 since february 2011. i had two mailbox configured, gmail and hotmail. Until last week, everything was fine. but suddenly my push mail stopped working for both gmail and hotmail.
when i noticed this, i removed both of my mailboxes and tried to create a new one. when trying to create a Gmail mailbox, it goes fine upto "downloading terms". after that, when i choose to connect to "nokia messaging service", it creates a mailbox named "HOTMAIL" instead of "GMAIL". it takes only my user name for Gmail and rest of the settings are for HOTMAIL.
if i choose not to connect to "nokia messaging service" then it works quite well. but thats not real push mail. it will check my email every 5 mins. but when tried to create a "HOTMAIL" mailbox, i had no luck. no matter how i try, hotmail mailbox can't download my mail. and as hotmail don't support IMAP, its very disgusting to use "POP3" if i choose not to connect to nokia messaging.
i have tried to reset the phone using *#7370# and *#7730#, but no luck. i also tried reinstalling the firmware using ovi suite, but i didn't had any luck either.
please help me, i am very disappointed with this kind of problem specially from nokia.
someone please do help. i m in a huge mess.

Password not showing for Gmail

I am using Mac book pro 10.8.5 and safari browser
For Gmail, the saved password ,not showing in the column.
Pass word needs to be entered, manully -------every time you log in.
Other mail accounts working well .

Changeing the username from xyz to [email protected] in the account settings solved this problem. Just adding in case anyone else searches for, and finds this question.

Do you have to switch to IMAP for Gmail?

Can I continue using my gmail as pop? I never had a problem with it before as POP and would like to continue that way. When I try to use it as POP it never downloads my messages even if I turn off IMAP in the gmail account settings.
Thought if I setup IMAP on my iPhone and on my macbook mail 3.1 (which I'm new to) I would have no problems. didn't work right on either, so I would prefer to stick to POP which worked just fine on both before the update. So if anyone knows if I can still use my gmail as POP on my iPhone it would be great to let me know

You can stay with POP by creating a new gMail account on your iPhone and specify Other and use POP.
But you are giving up some truly great features, like ability to mass delete emails on your phone, ability to get your messages back if the iPhone mail account gets corrupted and you have to delete the account, and very useful synchronizing between your phone and computer(s).
One tip to get IMAP working properly is to shut off POP via gMail's web site.

Chat is not available for Gmail for Firefox 14.0.1. Other browsers and lower version of Firefox works.

I have installed the Firefox 14.0.1 version. Since then the Chat for Gmail is not popping up. I checked with other internet browsers and the chat works perfectly on Gmail.
Is there any special plug in needed for this version?
Is this a bug in the new Firefox version?

Using WHERE NOT EXISTS for a Fact Table Load

I'm trying to set up a fact table load using T SQL, and I need to use WHERE NOT EXISTS. All of the fields from the fact table are listed in the WHERE NOT EXISTS clause. What I expect is that if the value of any one of the fields is different, that the whole

I don't have any issues with the initial insert, but records are not inserted on subsequent inserts when one of the WHERE NOT EXISTS field values changes.
What am I doing wrong?

so I set up a WHERE NOT EXIST condition as shown below. I ran the query, then updated Slot_Duration_Min to 5. Some of the Slot_Duration_Min values resolve to 15. What I expect is that when I run the query again, that the records where Slot_Duration_Min resolves
to 15 should be inserted again, but they are not. I am using or with the conditions in the WHERE clause because if any one of the values is different, then a new record needs to be inserted:

Using another from address for Gmail account in Mac OSX Lion's Mail app

Hi,
On my iPhone I've set up gmail as an Exchange accout and when I send an e-mail, my from address appears to be the one I select as default address in gmail preferences.
Is there any way to achieve this in Mac OSX Lion's mail application?

Hmmm, not sure what is going on, but from the Mail log, neither of those IPs have a name associated with them, 1st one is in Netherlands, 2nd one is iin Africa!???

Retrieving e-mail in Japan via WIFI using imap for gmail

For some reason she can send out e-mails, but can not retrieve them. She is using WIFI so that she doesn't have to deal with data roaming charges. Why would she be able to send but not receive. She was told that the iPhone can't receive e-mail in Japan because of it having a different chip (believable if it was over the cell network but it is over WIFI.) Would it be possible that they would have the port blocked for receiving but not sending at the WIFI hot-spot?

I don't quite understand what you've posted. Have you cancelled your Gmail account?
If you've just connected Mail to Gmail, and you've used IMAP to connect to it, you'll probably have an "All Mail" mailbox towards the bottom left of the screen (under the GMail mailbox). In there should be a Sent Mail box. All your Sent mail should be in there. To have it appear in the Sent mailbox at the top left of your screen, highlight Gmail's Sent Mail mailbox, click the Mailbox menu at the very top of your screen, and click "Use this Mailbox for - Sent".

Yeah, try deleting the account and setting up GMail again.. OR you could download the Gmail app from the appstore and use that app instead

..Basically the fan almost never came on before, now it seems to run continuously an dthe body feels hotter. I noticed this from Day 1 of using Lion!

Never heard the sound of the fans before updating to lion on the MPA 11" (1st rev)!!
Sure I dont use the Air for heavy work, as I have a working station for that, but come on, reeder+safari+mail, and fans are ON!!!! and I noticed it's running hot too!
iStat menu says it runs most the time around 48%, and SystemUIserver Windowserver are the 2 top process I see most of the time in the list!
I suspect something is up with full screen app, multiple desktop.
It i definitely Lion related. Really annoying, as the MBA feels not snappy at all as it used to be under 10.6.8!!
I will downgrade if things doesnt improve quickly.

IMAP for Gmail

somehow my IMAP Gmail stopped working so I deleted and tried to recreate. The setup in 2.0 is weird and I can't figure out how to set up Gmail as IMAP. With lots of piddling I got pop to work. Any suggestions?

I updated my old iphone to 2.0 today and suddenly gmail stops working. I deleted the old account, and went thru the steps to create a new one, but each time I try I get an error message saying it can't connect using SSL, and asks if I want to set up the account without SSL. I try that, but "account verification" still fails.
