Using portal metadata repository for portal content - performance impact?

Oracle provides the Oracle Drive utility as a way of moving portal content directly into the portal metadata repository. The Oracle Portal Center site (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/index.html) provides links to several demos and technical papers that describe the use of Oracle Drive to copy file-based content into the Portal Metadata Repository (e.g., http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/pdf/cm_webdav_10g_webdav_clients.pdf). My questions are: (a) is this a best practice (b) are there potential performance problems with loading up the portal metadata repository with large volumes of file-based content?

Hello
It depends on what you mean by "large volumes".
I use webdav scripts to create/update my files every night and it works fine. But it's rather slow.
Questions are :
- is it a one-time transfer to initiate Portal, and a regular one ?
- how large are your files ?

  • Expose Metadata Repository for Public Access

    All,
Does anyone have experience exposing the active metadata repository for documentation purposes?  I am familiar with how the repository works within the BI workbench, searching, navigating, etc, but what I would like to do is to expose the repository structure to the user community so they can find more information about their objects.
An example would be to allow users to browse the metadata repository to discover what the definition of a certain key figure is, such as what is the definition of headcount, or purchase price variance?  Ideally they could find what other key figures are used in a calculation, or in a formula.
The metadata repository appears to be a series of generated htm pages, but this information has to be stored somewhere in the database.  Does anyone know where? If we can access the tables, then we can build reporting objects off of them and thus expose in BEx.  Alternatively, if we can expose the metadata repository itself, could we then publish it in Enterprise Portal??
Any suggestions, advice, or help would be appreciated.
I will award points for useful suggestions.
    Thanks in advance
    Christopher

    Hi Michael,
maybe you have to check if you are running IE 7.0. That can be the problem (it was with me).
So try to uninstall IE 7.0 and try it again.

  • How to use transaction SOST & SCOT for checking Email performance ?

How to use transaction SOST & SCOT for checking Email performance ?
what exactly as CRM Functional we have to do in above transaction .
Please guide me . what is significance of these transaction ?
    Regards,
    Anup Reche

    Hi Anup,
Transaction SOST is used to view the status of the sent mails from SAP.
You cna filter the mails sent by a particular user, on a specified date range and time.
You can list the mails in the status Waiting, Error, Sent or Transmitted.
You can also go to the log of the mail and see its details and can also open the mail sent by the user.
You can add the filters as per your requirement.
Transaction SCOT is SAP Connect used to make connections from SAP to external applications.
You cna configure sending of external mails in SCOT by specifying the SMTP host and port to be used.
Hope this gives you a basic idea of the 2 transactions.

  • If we have 3 iPhones, and use the same iTunes for all content, should we use 3 Apple IDs and authorize for all 3 or just use 1 ID?

I want to enable us to share all apps, music, videos and photos, but enable each phone to keep its contacts and history separate. If I use 1 ID, all new purchases will go on the same credit card, which I'm not sure is ideal, but not horrible. Since we use the same computer and iTunes using only 1 appleID, and the phones are new to the equation since it was only iPods before, what is the best way to handle a family with 3 phones that can share all entertainment content, but not all phone-related stuff? I saw that you can use one AppleID for purchases, but another for iCloud. That may be the best solution, but I don't know enough about this yet to move forward yet- migrating from Android...
    Appreciate the help.

Thanks for the help, but a follow up question now.
My iPhone won't arrive for a little while, but my wife already got hers and she wants to set it up now. Using my Apple ID for the purchases, if she starts setting hers up, can she change her iCloud ID to something else quickly? It keeps telling us that we have to sign in with the AppleID first.
Should we just set up an iCloud account via normal internet before trying all this via iPhone?

  • Can I install Metadata Repository for 10.1.2.0.2 on Oracle 10.2.0 database

Does any one know if the Metadata Repository of OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 can be install on an existing Oracle 10.2.0 database ?

  • Using UCM as repository for Application Attachment files

    Hi,
We are building an ADF based application (with application tables and all) wherein for a few use cases there is a need to store one or more documents along with the application record. One of the use cases is that for each applicant record their educational transcripts should be captured
Though we could build an elaborate attachments functionality, I think it would be more scalable if we did this through OCS.
Are there any tutorials / blog posts which describe how we can call UCM services (?) to upload and view content. Also whether they generate any unique document ids that we can store as reference in our application tables.
    tia
    - Raghav

    Hi,
There are several UCM's integration methods possible. Please check this document: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e10807/c06_integration.htm#CACHGJBD.
Regarding RIDC and CIS integrations you can check this: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e16819/toc.htm and this: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e10608/toc.htm
It's also possible to execute directly UCM web service from your application but for version 11g this is somewhat tricky because of the deployment of UCM on Oracle WebLogic. If you decide to use this method, please write again and I'll share our experience.

  • Using .xsl in javascript for portal .html (document iview)

    Hi,
I prepared .html document has javascript code in it.
Javascript code uses activex object to process .xsl for xml operation.
I used html document in document iview but problem occured.
I think activex object cause the problem or i gave wrong address  for xsl document.
If i place xsl document in same folder with html document, how can it be addressed (xsl path)?
Is there sample html document using javascript code that uses xsl and activex object in it?
And is it tested as document iview with no problem?
    Thanks.

I just completed designing a website for my restaurant using Dreamweaver 8. I included my menu as part of the website and now wanted to print it for customer use in the restaurant. The document is in html format.
You can only print your source code from Dreamweaver. I don't have DW8 installed anymore, but i think it's: File > Print (or Print Code).
If you want to print how it looks with the HTML rendered, then print it from a browser.

  • USing XI as repository for Seeburger BICMAPPER

We are using XI in combination with the Seeburger adaptors
I want to store the BICMAPPER Meta-Data definitions into the XI repository. So far I could not find the exact procedure to configure this.
    Anybody an Idee?
    Thanks
    Raf Wijnendaele

    Hi Raf,
it's not possible to store the Meta-Data (mappings from the BIC Mapper) into the XI respository.
All standard mappings which are delivered by SEEBURGER AG are stored in the maaping_sys.sda. Don't change them.
Own (user specific) mappings have to be stored into the mapping_usr.sda.
How to create this SDA is written in the user manual of the SEEBURGER Mapping Designer.

  • Using 'Fb like' buttons for page content

I want to add a 'Fb like' button to individual photos in my site. I have a like button that links to my Fb page and 'likes' that, but what I would really like is for photos to appear in their activity instead of just the page address.
I tried adding an anchor and entering the page address with the anchor, but the button won't generate. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Yes Weblogic controls the users/groups, but it can delegate this to, for example, an LDAP, active directory etc.
Take a loot at JHeadStart if you want to store user / group access in the database.
Depending on how much you can to restrict with security, you can make fields read only or not rendered at all based on the user roles.
When using JHeadStart it provides a map with user roles to access in EL.
If you write the code yourself, which is rather trivial, you can use:
acesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().isUserInRole("role name");And just expose this as a bean on the session.
Or just create a map implementation which does the same, but thats a bit more code.

  • Help, need to change IP address on host database for Portal

    Hi folks,
Rather urgent assistance (as usual) needed. I have an installation working correctly on a pair of Win2k machines, one as the 9i database, one as the 9iAS/Portal. The app server has 2 NIC cards, one with public IP address (which is ok), one on the LAN. I need to reconfigure the LAN addresses on both the machines. Initial Portal install done without DNS, i.e. actual server/host addresses entered in the configuration.
I have tried changing all of the TNS/Listner settings and the NIC card IP addresses and restarting the machines. The likes of SQLPlus work ok, with the TNS connect name allowing over the LAN access into the database with the new LAN addresses. I cannot seem to get the 9iAS/Portal to find the repository with the new addresses.
Can someone help please? I can't find the answer in any documentation or other postings.
    Thanks in advance
    Rob

There are other modes of operation for the plasst as well. I am listing them below but the formatting will make it difficult to read. If you like I can email it to you.
    Bill G...
Configuring Portal when the HTTP server host name of the Infrastructure is changed
Run the following from the $ORACLE_HOME/assistants/opca dir
ptlasst.bat -mode SSOPARTNERCONFIG -i typical -sdad portal -host myApache.domain.com -port 7777 -silent -verbose
    NOTE:
    (1) This command would create a new Portal partner application in the SSO to reflect the changes of the Infrastructure. Before running this command please ensure to configure the SSO with the correct hostname by running the ssocfg.bat script located in the Infrastructure install (<infra_home>\sso\bin).
The value for -host parameter will be the IP address of the infrastructure server and -port will be the port where the infrastructure http server is running on.
Configuring Portal when the HTTP server host name of the Middle tier is changed
    ptlasst.bat -mode MIDTIER -i typical -host myApache.domain.com -port 7777 -ldap_h myOID.domain.com -ldap_p 389 -ldap_w welcome -pwd secret123 -portal_only -oh /home/oracle -chost myHostname.domain.com -cport_i 8001 -cport_a 8000 -wc_i_pwd invalidator -mc false -mi true -silent -verbose
    NOTE :
    (1) The -host value should match the serverName value of the httpd.conf
    (2) The -chost should be updated with the correct webcache hostname. In a default iAS midtier install the -host is same as the -chost.
The value for -host parameter will be the IP address of the midtier(portal) server and -port will be the port where the portal is running on.
    Parameter Description Default Value Mandatory
    -i install_type Installation Type
In the typical mode, the OPCA would get the Infrastructure information like the Portal schema name, Portal schema password, connect string to the Portal repository, SSO Partner application schema and password, SSO Password store schema and password and connect string to the SSO repository from the Repository Access API's.

  • Alert Mail configuration in Solution Manager 7.1 for Portal Runtime errors

    Dear Friends,
We have EP7.01 SP5  installed on windows environment with Oracle DB. Also we have  SAP EHP 1 for SAP Solution Manager 7.0.
Please help to provide steps to configure
    proactive mail alert configuration ,
    GRMG for High availability

for PORTAL services in Solution Manager.
    Regards,
    Venkat.

    Hello Venkat,
You will have to include the Portal system in the Central System administration of your Solution Manager.
As the EP system will be monitored by a sapccmsr running with -j2ee option this one can be configured separately. The agent will be started using the monitoring segment of the J2EE instance and therefore can be started more than once.
Here you should also use the latest sapccmsr agents.
The following link provides details on the required agents:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/ca/118110ff542640b7c86b570cc61ae3/frameset.htm

214247     RZ20: Questions on configuration of monitoring data
704349     Activating the CCMS monitoring for TREX 6.1 (NW2004
Note the EP system can only be monitored by using the SAPCCMSR agents. and then by implement a central autoreaction method you can generate e-mails from CCMS.
Automatic emails will get generated when certain thresholds are met. You must configure the thresholds from the central monitoring system for the nodes that you want email to be generated.
Please follow the steps in the note to configure central auto reaction.
429265 CCMS monitor architecture: Central auto-reaction
In the central monitoring system ( Solution Manager in your case ), Goto RZ20, choose the monitor for the nodes that you are monitoring. Select the node, click properties, & check the threshold values.

I guess this is a whole lot of information to assimilate and will be helpful to you to setup what you intend to.
