Using Portal Server's DS 5.1 as a general LDAP server

Does anybody use the Portal Server's "built in" Directory Server 5.1 as a general LDAP server? For instance, using the DS to authenticate workstations?
When I installed our Portal Server 6.0, I installed it on a seperate host so I could use it for other things besides just the Portal Server.
Before I went this route, I spoke with a Sun engineer and he said it was just like the "full blown" DS 5.1. I figured "Why have two directory servers when one will do the job for everything?"
Now that I am eyeball deep in this project and about to go production, a different Sun engineer says not to do this because the portal server "wants to have the dir server all to itself." That's a real technical answer.
Does anybody else do this and have you run into any problems?
The Directory Server should scale just fine for our portal server and the little bit of misc use elsewhere.
Any insight would be helpful.

Is anybody even using Portal Server 7.2 ?

We've experienced a lot of runtime stability issues in our test with Portal Server 7.2, and can't help but notice additional problems reported here on the Forum.
It does not give us great confidence, to say the least, when it comes to putting this into production..
Is anybody out there successfully using 7.2 in a production environment? If so, can you tell us what OS you are running it on?

We are not in production until now - but we are currently migrating our Portal 6.3 to 7.2.
Indeed, there are some issues open with this version. Sun support told us that there will be a "Patch 1" in the
near future, but we have no exact date so far.
A pre-release version of this patch fixed some of our problems (mainly in conjunction with certificate-based
authentication).
WebSynergy is currently not of interest to us, because it will need some time before there will be a production
release.
We need a well-supported version, new features are currently not relevant to us. Therefore, we hope that 7.2
will be a stable, supported version for some time.

Display a Calendar View in the Portale Server

Hi, we use portal server 6.2 and we want to display a view of the calendar inside a channel of the portal.
We know that portal have a calendar provider but we really didn't understand how can we use this provider to call a custom view of the calendar.
Is it possible to display a custom view of the calendar inside a page of the portal ?

Where can I find a portal server for JAVA development?

Hi, everyone:
I am looking a portal server which can be used under Windows envorinment and related development environment (toolkit or SDK).
I have done some search through IBM and SUN's web site and I can not find any portal servers that running on Windows plarform for download and related Windows development (toolkit or SDK).
Where can I find some trial versions of portal servers running under Windows and related Windows development (toolkit or SDK)? I want to use JAVA to development portal, so Microsoft does not provide any useful information.
I just want to use basic functions of portal servers so I think other portal servers other than IBM and SUN's can also be used, maybe an open source one can be used. But I do not know what are they and where can I get them. :-)
So, anyone can help me to introduce a portal server that can meet my needs. Or provide me information where to download IBM or SUN's portal server running under Windows and related Windows development (toolkit or SDK).

Do you want a server application that deploys software. For example you create a game. Someone logs into your "portal server" and downloads the game from that?
Or do you just want to know how to package a java app that you have already written, and then put it on a CD so someone can install that on their computer?

I want to use Portal server to develop portlets for .
when i will install it, would it automatically install Sun Application server with it or do i have to do it seperately.
I understand there is a Identity Server that must exist.
Will it be installed too or should i do it manually and then somehow show where app server/identity servers are?
If so , how can i show portal server where App Server is.

Hi Serge,
Just run the JES installer and select to install the portal server, the installer will automatically select the pre-requisites. When doing a sandbox installation, just install all components on one server:
- application server
- portal server
- access manager
- directory server
Be sure to read the release notes and the JES installation guide.

Portal server Installation

Hi All,
I am trying to install Portal server in my machine using BS_2005_SR3_SAP_Installation_Master.
At the time of installation I didnu2019t get the "SAP Systems" Folder in the SAP GUI list screen at the "Choose Service" step to define "Central System".
Please share your view on the issue. I'm using portal; server dumps in place of istallation CDs, which i don't have.
If possible please share installation steps and proper installation master for 32bit OS.

Configure WebSphere Portal Server to use LDAP (Oracle Internet Directory)

I did configuration for WebSphere Portal to use security with LDAP Oracle Internet Directory (OID). The script for configuring works well (WPSConfig.bat action-secure-portal-ldap)
But when i start Portal Server it cannot start successfully. I did check in log file and found a error on SystemOut.log as attachment log below. I don't know what happen with WebSphere Portal Server.
If you guys know how to fix it please let me know or point me some documents to configure this again.

There is no clear documentation available to enable custom security but IBM info center has decent documentation for LDAP based security. I would say follow the steps mentioned for IBM directory and then modify the necessary configuration parameters for OID. This should solve your issues. For better help open a PMR with IBM to get necessary quick help.

How to use the CMS functionality in Sun Portal Server 7.2

How to use the CMS functionality using the ccd.war(Portlet) which is available in the library as i could add it to my channel but not able to show the functionality as it is showing the error msg "You are currently not logged in. Please login." should I create userid and there respective roles inorder to use the CMS functionality.
Has any one used this as I could this in glass fish server.
Any Input is appreciated.

Alternatively,
1. ccd.war has 3 portlets in it:
(a) custom content definition portlet
(b) custom content portlet
(c) workflow portlet
2. Inorder to work with these portlets, user needs to be in anyone of the below roles:
(a)Consumer (b) Editor (c) Approver (d) Administrator (e) Submitter (f) Contributor (g) Publisher
3. By default ccd.war gets deployed using a default roles file (/var/opt/SUNWportal/tmp/ccd.roles.properties)
Note: In windows, you may not find this file
4. Access the portlets as a user in any of the role mentioned in the ccd.roles.properties
(OR)
you can use a new roles file which has mapping to your custom roles. For this , undeploy existing ccd.war and deploy again with a new roles.properties file

First you install a JDK6 version after which you can install your WebLogic and Forms, Reports...

can a installation of the TREX on the Portal-Server (or as separate Server) used for Portal Index/search and also in parallel for searching of Content in an SAP Records Management (means full text research of records/ dossier in the SAP RM) ? Some ideas, tips or settings to keep in mind ?

We have exactly the same problem. We installed a new SAP E-Commerce system on Microsoft Windws 2008 R2 with TREX Version 7.10.43.00. The TREX connection is okay. Also the catalogue replication works without any problems. The SAP support means it is a permission problem on the IIS. The problem isnu2019t solved yet and the message to the SAP support is in process.
What is your effect with this link?

Using third party jdbc drivers in Portal server

I have an application that runs inside the WebLogic Portal server. The portal server
is configured to work with Oracle using the default oracle driver that comes with
weblogic.
My application, however, also needs to connect to a database. I am using the oracle-oci
driver ( type 2 - provided by oracle) in my application.
However, intermittantly i am getting an exception as follows:

Another related question is can the portal server use my driver instead of its

Unfortunately there was a regression bug around using the Generic JDBC connector to a Foreign Database in this Technology Preview (3). I'm not able to give you good news as I don't have a workaround for you either.
You could use SQLDeveloper to connect to the database for live work, unfortunately that will not help if you wanted to create offline objects of some sort using JDeveloper.

I am trying to use log4j with Portal server 6.1 using log taglibs from jakarta.
Here is what i've done:
1. copy taglibs-log.jar in /etc/opt/SUNWps/desktop/classes
2. copy taglibs-log.tld in /etc/opt/SUNWps/desktop/default/tld
3. put log statements in JSPs
for example:
<log:debug>This is body content.</log:debug>
<log:debug message="This is attribute content." />
4. /etc/opt/SUNWps/desktop/classes/log4j.properties contains

Has anyone every try using the iplanet portal server radius authentication module with cryptoCard?

We are using the easyRadius server from CryptoCARD. When we run the radius server in debug mode, it appears ips is sending multiple access-request message. Also, the server is coming back with a challenge which we are not expecting.

we did basic integration where the authentication will be done using siteminder. The trick is to protect the portal server web server and not the gateway. You also need to add a new authentication module for siteminder in the portal using ipsadmin. We are protecting the login html page only. We couldn't protect the desktop because it's built using servlets.

In my jsp dyn page java application, what code would I use to figure out which physical portal server I am connected to? I realize that I could find the server node number from the saplb_* cookie, but I really don't want to mess with having to translate that.
