Using powerbook abroad?????

I will have to use my powerbook abroad where the voltage is 220V and 50hz. wanted to know if the powerbook has an inbuilt converter and if i wud need any kind of adapter? Also, if the world travel kit available int he apple store worth the purchase.
Thanks
Rekha

The PowerBook (like the iBook) has all the needed adapters built right into it. In other words it will work anywhere on earth IF you get the right plug adapter so it will fit in the wall.
As for the World Traveler kit I can't say.

  • Using powerbooks abroad

For the last two months I have been using my PB on an ungrounded socket. I guess this explained the mysterious vibration running through the hood when it was plugged in.
According to the repair shop in New Delhi is was because of this that the adapter shorted out.
Could some one with experience using their PB in India or Europe give some advise on what sorts of devices one could buy to protect against this kind of thing? Are there devices one can buy to create a ground?
I used Apple's Int. two prong adapter, but I guess this wasn't enough. Also, when I borrowed a friend's adapter, hers was also shorted out.

jamead is absolutely correct. You can use you BlackBerry in wi-fi and will be able to use BBM, email, twitter and browse without incurring any additional cost.

  • HT201328 after unlocking usa/att iphone 3gs ,  how to use it abroad with a foreign company simcard and service?

has an old iphone 3gs that was not in usage for awhle.  I called ATT and had it unlocked officially. After resetting it here in USA  I gave it as a gift to someone to use abroad  with forign sim card and phone service.
However, at the foreign company office they were told that USA iphones can not be used outside USA.
    Is that true?
So How can they   use  it abroad?

I'm fairly certain you should be able to use it abroad if it was unlocked by AT&T.
Did you restore it as a new phone and get a screen that said something similar to "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked"?
If so, it should work on just about any GSM carrier, though the other person would want to make sure their carrier supports the iPhone. I was able to use my US iPhone 4 in London just fine.
They may not have full functionality for data speeds outside the US, but that's the only issue I can think of. And I don't think that would affect the 3GS since it can't use anything faster than 3G anyway.

No.  WiFi is WiFi is WiFi.

Apple does not unlock phones. The carriers do. Once unlocked the phone can be used with any SIM that will fit in your phone. Contact your carrier.

I want buy Ipad Wi-Fi 3g in Canada Apple Store. Is it have micro-sim slot for using 3g abroad? In Ukraine being exact.

    Lets make it clear.
The thing is i know that in the US Ipad 2 Wi-Fi+3G Verizon goes without any slot for micro-sim. So i won`t be able to use 3g abroad.
In Canada store they don`t give no required carrier.Does it mean that Ipad 2 Wi-Fi+3G from there has a micro-sim slot and is ok for using 3g worldwide with local carrier?

  • Just got hold of a used Powerbook 15" notebook and need advices

Hello all and my first time in here
I'm an Engineer by trade and I know pretty much everything to do with Windows, Unix and Linux. Now, I like to get under the hood and get my hands dirty with Apple.
I just got hold of a used Powerbook 15" 550 MHz with 512MB and the version on it is 10.1.1. I know that the last FREE upgrade is version 10.1.5.
I like to install Jaguar version 10.2 and I know I can go either by upgrade or full install.
Is there a great step-by-step tutorial, visual guide on how to reset (format), install the OS and etc? You know... the basics.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Using powerbook for "airtunes".... sort of.

    Hi.
I have mac mini hooked up to home stereo.
In another area of house, I have powerbook hooked up to other speakers.
I'd like to listen to the same iTune/audiobook/CD in multiple rooms as I move from room to room.
Essentially, I want to use the powerbook (and speakers hooked to it) as an airport express "airtunes" set up.
Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks for input and ideas.
    R

Yes. You'll have to purchase an "airport express" unit. You won't be able to use the Powerbook as a substitute. Also, you'll need the latest version of Airport installed on your machine - v 6.3, which allows use of multiple speakers (available through Software Update once the base station is installed).
I have this configuration set up in my home, and it works really well - no drop offs/great sound.

  • Help using powerbook as wireless adapter for Xbox 360

Ok I need help partially opening my NAT. I have a Linksys WRT54G. And I play on Xbox Live a lot. The other day I moved the xbox into my living room where our new tv is and then I hooked my G4 Powerbook up to the xbox and did internet sharing because I have no internet connection in there besides wireless. Whenever I use a wired connection on the xbox is says my NAT is open. But whenever I use my laptop it says my NAT is Moderate, and it makes it hard to get into any games. I don't want to chip out the money for a $100 microsoft adapter because I will rarely play xbox in their. So how do I go about opening up the NAT the rest of the way.
http://www.ofzenandcomputing.com/zanswers/61 there is how I did it, but I setup the xbox with a static IP
On my router I have ports 88 and 3074 open which make the NAT open on wired connection. So I am thinking I may need to open those ports on the laptop itself? I am not sure if I can open ports on the laptop for outgoing connections.
    Thanks for the help!

A wireless router is a device which requires its own wired internet connection. A wireless router is not a wireless access point like the Linksys WAPs. A wireless router does not connect wireless to other wireless routers/APs with standard Linksys firmware. With Linksys firmware you need a WAP54G or similar. The WAPs support wireless bridging and repeater mode.
If you already have a WRT54GL then you have to install a 3rd party firmware which adds wireless bridging capabilities. Read the wikipedia article on "WRT54G" for information about which WRT models support 3rd party firmware and an overview of projects and links.
Remember, however, that you may brick your router if you install a 3rd party firmware incorrectly and you probably void the warranty if you install 3rd party firmware (it is even possible to find out after you restore the original Linksys firmware if you don't clear the NVRAM before).

  • I recently bought a used PowerBook G4. Which drive, larger than 80GB, will it accept?

According to the seller, its 1.33GHz logic board died recently and was replaced with a faster 1.5GHz board. Along the way, its 60GB hard drive was replaced with a 40GB drive, which has Leopard 10.5.8. Its model number is A1095.
This "new" PowerBook was meant to replace an older, slower one with an 80GB drive. While this "new" machine has certain defects, some of which can be corrected relatively easily, I would definitely like to upgrade its hard drive to something larger than 80GB; what larger size drive would be supported by this architecture?
Another question I have is the maximum RAM to which I can upgrade. The lower slot is dead, with the upper one occupied by a 1GB DDR SDRAM memory module. Assuming there is no way to "restore" this lower slot to operational status, how big a memory module could I use in the remaining slot, to help improve performance?
    Thank you for your time.
    Dieter

Allan, thank you for your response.
Permit me to share some background, which I couldn't do because of a character limit in the details section of the question.
As much as I would love to buy Apple's latest MacBook Pro with all the bells and whistles, I cannot do so at this time, as I do not have the wherewithal. Thus, I'm stuck buying used machines that still work.
That being said, my question regarding larger hard drives was to permit me to use this newer machine to replace the one I currently use, which plods along at 667 MHz with an 80GB hard drive. However, the biggest stumbling block is the hard drive, which has HALF the capacity of my current machine. Therefore, I want to replace it with a larger-capacity drive, so I don't get the ""Your startup disk is almost full" message, which I've encountered too often. The larger replacement drive doesn't have to be faster than the 80GB drive in the other machine, just roomier.
This "new" PowerBook - on which I'm writing this reply - is meant to replace the current machine. I don't do graphics-intensive work on it, or gaming, so it doesn't need to go to Warp 8. All i want is for it to function as it should, for my online activities and spreadsheet and word processing activities.

  • S_ARL_87012357 when using plants abroad

    Dear SAP experts,
when I activate plants abroad functionality, I have a company code in CH with plant abroad in BE. I created a PO to a German external supplier and used my plant abroad in BE as the receiving plant. All went well.
However when running VAT return report S_ARL_87012357 with reporting country BE, so the country of my plant abroad, the report shows the VAT registration of the company code country and not the VAT Registration that the Swiss company has in reporting country BE where I created my transactions. Tax codes are correct. What do I need to change in the system to display the correct VAT Registration?
Thanks a million for any help.
    Kind regards, Maria

If I don't want any data / network charges when using my 5800XM abroad for Ovi maps, do I just make sure that only "Integrated GPS" is selected in Positioning Methods ?
You are correct in your assertion. The WiFi/Network positioning method introduced in OVI Maps v3.04 is Nokia's interpretation of the similar Maps Booster application which utilises the Skyhook network where WLAN access point is logged geographically. Essentially the more users whom add data the more accurate the system becomes.
You can of course use "Roaming warning" in OVI Maps here:

  • Using N95 abroad, help?

    Hi,
I got my N95 about a year ago, and last summer I took it to France with me.
While I was there I couldn't connect to any of the French networks. All of my mates could with their phones but the N95 just didn't want to allow me to.
Is there a setting you have to adjust or do you have to notify your service provider if you want to use your phone abroad?
I'm going to Finland a week today and need to be able to make phonecalls while I'm there!
    Any help would be great!
    Thanks
    Rob

you need to notify your provider in most cases.you may be told to rome on a specific network when your away you can look at your network settings and either manually choose the network or the phone will select one.

  • WHAT TO DO WITH USED POWERBOOK G4

    Hello-
I am very new to these forums, so I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to post this. If it is not and you can suggest where to do so, I would appreciate it. But I'll give it a shot.
I have a Powerbook G4 that is about 4 years old and I would like to sell it. I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to where the best place may be to do this, whether it's via the internet, an Apple store or even someplace where I live, in NYC. Thanks.
