Using powerbook keyboard/mouse to interact with imac

i have seen similar questions to this, but nothing exactly like what i am doing.
my problem is as follows...
i have an imac (2009 edition) hooked up to my television. the imac is in a bedroom and the tv is in the living room, so whenever i want to switch what is being sent to the tv, i have to go into the bedroom to do it. one solution to this would be to buy a wireless keyboard and mouse (easy enough). what i am wondering, however, is if it is possible to use my powerbook, which sits on the coffee table in the living room, to control the imac. i dont need to see the screen of the imac since it is on the tv in front of me, i just need the key strokes i hit to register on the imac, and the mouse movements to apply to the imac and not my powerbook.
i have read suggestions about using synergy, which allows one keyboard and mouse to control two computers. this could be what i want, but i want the powerbook control over the imac to be temporary, so that when i am in the bedroom, controlling the imac, i can use the imac keyboard and mouse.
does anyone have any experience with this or ideas of what i should do. it would be nice to re-use my powerbook and save $100 by not getting a wireless keyboard/mouse.
thanks!

It would need to be running Leopard, yes - and the iMac disk will be machine-specific and won't work. You can still, however, use VNC, which is the basis for Screen Sharing. On the iMac, go back to Sharing, Remote Management, Computer Settings, and tick and set a password for "VNC viewers".
Then, on the laptop, install Chicken of the VNC, launch it and locate your computer in the Open Connection dialog. You may need to add its address manually. Enter the VNC password, and you will be able to control the iMac.

  • KVM-like device for using 1 keyboard/mouse for 2 Macs

I'm familar with KVMs but what I'd like to do is simply use the same Apple Keyboard/Mouse for both my thunderbolt iMac and my thunderbolt Mac Mini. Any recommendations for keeping this as minimalist and space saving as possible? (BootCamp/Windows7 will occasionally be used on the iMac.)

Zathrak, look into a free application called Synergy. It lets you use a keyboard/mouse on multiple computers. It works like a client/server type of environment. Both computers must be on the same network for this to work.
Check out the website and see if this serves your purpose. http://synergy-foss.org/

  • Using UI Automation Framework to interact with Flex applications

    Hi all,
I created a small flash app using Flex builder 4.
I am writing a tool to interact with flash applications using UI Automation Framework which is similar to UI Spy. I've read in so many forums that accessibility can be done using UI Automation or MSAA.
Using the tool, I am able to get all the fields that are present in the application. (button, text, edit fields etc). Now, I want to use InvokePattern on buttons from my tool so that, if I click "Invoke" in my tool, the associated button will be clicked in the flash app. Here, I find no issues to do anything.
But, if there is a textinput field on the flash application and I use ValuePattern of UI Automation to set some value in the field using SetValue(), then I am getting
    "System.InvalidOperationException"
even when I tried simple SetFocus() on to that field, I am getting the same exception Looks like, I cannot interact with flash text fields in the same way I do with other window's fields.
I used UISpy and other tools to see if they are doing any better with setting values on a text field. But, they too failed with same exception.
Can someone tell me why this is failing? Does flex/flash support UI Automation to this extent? Are there any examples or links that can help me here?

    @riatest Thanks for the info.
I downloaded flex sdk to see if there is anything that will help me. But, In flex sdk, I cannot find anything that would ease my path. I want to stick to developing in C# to talk to Flash applications. What is the best way to proceed? Are there any sdks that I can download and use for C# development to interact with the flex controls? What is the way to go? I seem not to find any good hits in the web as well
    Thanks

  • Wireless keyboard/mouse unable to wake imac

I am currently using a iMac G4, D-Link DBT-120 vers B3 and have been unable to wake computer using wireless keyboard or mouse. Once computer is awake (using wired mouse) keyboard is fine. I have tried updating bluetoothversion but am told it is current, firmware tells me it has errors and to try again. In bluetooth preferences allow to bluetooth device to wake is light grey. I have followed advice in reference article about this issue and downloaded update of 10.4.6. Since the update I have not discarded .plist as suggested in anearlier discussion. Any thoughts or am I to have some wires across my desk for the mouse?
    Thanks
    Mheader

    Hi again, Mheader —
Please accept a (belated) welcome to Apple Discussions.
Sorry for not responding to your post in diga's "Bluetooth Keyboard - Wake Up Powerbook doesn't work anymore" thread. I appreciate your initiating a new thread, so we can focus on your situation.  "Any thoughts or am I to have some wires across my desk for the mouse?"Let's hope we can make some progress toward a solution...
      (1) When you say,   "... firmware tells me it has errors and to try again" —— I think it's likely that this is the problem, or part of it. I don't have a D-Link DBT-120 adapter (your is one of the correct models), so I have to depend on the experience of others about (part of) this issue. Here are the steps for updating its Bluetooth firmware:
        (a) Download Bluetooth Firmware Updater 1.2 [11/23/04]. Note that — as with any software installation — it's very important  that the process isn't interrupted; don't work on any other activities while it runs, ensure an uninterrupted power supply, and make sure that Energy Saver is set to Sleep = "Never" while the installer is running. The download will place a file named BluetoothFWUpdate1.2.dmg into your Downloads folder or wherever your browser is set to save downloads.
        (b) When you open this, and double-click to "launch" the enclosed BluetoothFirmwareUpdate1.2.pkg, it acts a little differently than many software update installations — there's an extra step. This (the installer actually runs) creates a file in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder named Bluetooth Firmware Updater. At this point, you're done with the .dmg image and can dismount it.
        (c) Now double-click to "launch" the Bluetooth Firmware Updater application that I've just described. This begins the actual upgrade process = "flashing" the Firmware. (The Apple Installer runs again.) Since you're using a D-Link DBT-120 Rev. B3 adapter because Bluetooth isn't "built-in," the adapter needs to be plugged directly into one of the USB ports on your iMac (not a hub). Since the Firmware Update is only "flashing" the module or adapter, you should "disconnect" your mouse and keyboard during the process. The installer itself may provide an alert and do this for you. (It did this when I updated my internal module's firmware.) Follow on-screen instructions from here.
        (d) As I understand it, installing the firmware on an adapter may take a very long time  — I've even seen it suggested that you let it run overnight.
        (e) You should clearly be able to see that the update has been successful: if an alert that the device wasn't updated appears, the process wasn't successful. If this occurs, participants with a lot of experience with adapters suggest "try, try again." (Here's an example.)
      (2) You may want to read through Wake This Computer Option Is Shaded and Wake This Computer Option Is Shaded, Part 2 — which are examples where several folks were able to solve similar problems using this approach.
If the firmware update is successful, but this problem remains...
      (3) Try USB device troubleshooting: USB controller problems caused by some non-compliant devices can sometimes cause the problem you're experiencing.
    I hope this helps!
Please post back to share how it goes.
    Regards,
    Dean

  • Wireless Keyboard Will Not Pair With iMac

After installing Security Update 2007-007 and Pro Applicatiion Support 4.0.1 my wireless keyboard stopped being recognized by my computer. When I run my Bluetooth Setup Assistant it sees my keyboard but I can not pair it. I even installed new battteries in it thinking that was the problem. I had a brand new never used wireless keyboard in the closet which i got out and installed batteries in it and it will also not pair with my iMac. Any sugggestions will be greatly appreciated since I am stumped! Oh, my wireless mouse is working fine.

The model number is M9270LL/A (its the one that comes with the iMac). When the screen comes up and asks for you to enter a set of numbers to pair with the computer and I type the nembers on the keyboard I then receive an message that an error has occured. I try and try again to pair the keyboard to the computer with the same results. Thanks.

  • Mouse not interacting with panels.

I have CS6 wich I just DL a few weeks ago for school, I use no plug-ins or other add on software. The problem is my mouse will not interact with the panels, (ie layers, swatches, and the such) in InDesign. So far Photoshop Illustrator, and Bridge all work just fine it is only ID that I am having issues with. On the panels I can get it to open the group but it has no interaction with the fine details, selecting layers, double click name to rename locking viewing and open layer options, create new layer button will also not work, I can use the options button at the top right of the panel for some things but it leaves me limited on what can be done. I can not even use my mouse to switch between layers. Any idea on what may be causeing this and what I can do to fix it. (yes my mouse works, it is charged and interacts with other software and games with no problem)

Bob thanks so much for this. I had been using IdCS6 on Win7 without issues but recently got a new larger screen so had increased font size. BTW I did several searches on Adobe forum using various combinations of "indesign CS6 mouse will not work in layers panel" and did not manage to find your helpful reply.I eventually found it on about page 10 of Google search results! Have spent half a day on this search and found nothing so not a lot of info on this issue out there...I would not have found this information anywhere else. Glad I persisted! Again many thanks.

  • Can i use flash for ui and interact with c++ builder for the rest

i know flash can be used in c# in visual studio but i dont remember a thing of this interaction.
is it possible to interact with c++ builder and how?
    the scenario is simple
use flash for UI (showing-viewing data) maybe for a kiosk or something without mouse simply with touch input,
use c++ builder for the rest , database connection data proccessing etc
any info will be greatly appreciated
    thanks

I would advise proper punctuation and grammar on a public forum, but to answer your questions, yes, yes you can! Flash can be used to produce any commercial imagery or animations for the purpose of making profit, as long as you have a valid license you purchased from Adobe. You bought it, you can use it for whatever you want.
By "book", I assume you mean the "tutorial" book series made by Adobe? If so, the name of the series is "Classroom in a Book", there's one for each versions of Flash. Personally it hasn't been of much use and I would advise simply practicing by yourself and getting familiar with the tools. Look for online tutorials and publicly available projects and see how they work.

  • Logitech LX700 keyboard/mouse:  NOT compatible with Mac?

Just purchased a new iBook G4 for my daughter. I'm looking for an external keyboard/mouse (yes, I looked at the Apple) and like the features of the Logitech LX700, but it lists only Windows for compatibility and the software only is for Windows. Oddly, the next step down in the LX series is the LX500 which appears to be the same as the LX700 but without the rechargeable mouse.
Anyone use the LX700 on a Mac?

I use the LX700 mouse with my ibook and it works great, mine is not rechargable though, so I guess it is the LX500. You can download software from the Logitech web site.
The only reason I think it states it is not compatible is that the keyboard was designed for a PC, so it was the windows button, not eh command button. but besides that I am sure that it is fully compatible. And you can probably program that button to do what the command button does.

  • Possible to use powerbook keyboard for my desktop? (temporarily)

So I have a wireless keyboard for my desktop G4.
I need to do some work in single-user mode and I can't do that with the bluetooth keyboard. Is there a way to temporarily make it so I can use the keyboard from my powerbook G4 in its place?
    Please let me know!
    cheers!

I'm sure it means he owns the Zen Touch.
Phono cables are often not enough for a car stereo as it needs to detect a CD changer, but you can get adapters from a variety of stores that will fool some stereos into thinking there is a changer there. More information and some links here (but try a search in Google as well for your make and/or model of stereo).
Phono cables are also the typical cable uses to connect to a home stereo, but double check your stereo to be sure.Message Edited by SSR on 2-27-2004 02:5 PM

  • How to use one keyboard, mouse and display for two PC's?

hey guys, right now i'm using a mac mini and also another Windows PC tower. whenever i want to switch between them i need to re-plug in my headphones/keyboard/mouse/display and this is getting annoying. i've been using a usb hub for the mouse and keyboard so it's not as difficult to setup. is there anything out there that'll allow me to switch between them more easily?
    what are my options?
    thank you

If both are on your intranet, try Synergy.
I personally use the Wormhole.  You can drag between desktops.

  • Using a keyboard and cinema display with the lid closed on the laptop...

I have connected my MacBook Pro to my Apple cinema display, but what do I need to do in order to be able to close the lid on the laptop, but still work with the computer. Also, do I need a docking station?
Thanks to anyone patient enough to reply with help!

I think the Trick is to connect your Laptop to the Cinema Display. Then connect a keyboard to your ACD, then set your Laptop to go to sleep by closing it - next wake the laptop by using the Keyboard attached to the ACD.

  • How to use NI motion library to interact with the hardware in C#?

i want to interact with a motor connected to my system using ni motion board and ni motion library. Can anyone suggest how to configure velocity and acceleration settings so that the motor can be rotated ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ritesh

    Ritesh,
you should start by configuring and testing the motion control setup in MAX. In C# you can use the NI-Motion C API. Please refer to the documentation (NI-Motion C Reference help) and the shipping examples (C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-Motion\Documentation\Examples\NI-Motion Help\C).

  • Using BT Keyboard / Mouse with multiple computers

    Hey everyone - happy holidays!
I have a quick question (or so i hope) regarding the use of a Apples Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. I have two computers a Mini and G5, I currently have 2 displays and would like the option to be able to switch my second display to my Mini.
This I can accomplish with a KVM switch, the drawback is I have the BT keyboard and mouse paired with my G5 - is there a method of pairing my interface with both machines but have the ability to switch from one system to the other?
    Thanks for the help. Jim.
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I do not believe it is possible to pair devices like mice and keyboards to multiple computers. Its a security risk hence the reason behind "pairing". There may be a software solution such as:
    http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/
But I have not used it or looked much into it.

  • Wireless Mouse and keyboard have lost connectivity with iMac?

Computer turned off for a week. Restarted, and wireless mouse and keyboard no longer connected to computer. Help please

    Hello Pompoo220s,
It is certainly difficult to use the computer if your wireless keyboard and mouse do not connect or stay connected.  I found a few resources I recommend for this issue.
I recommend reviewing this article first:
Troubleshooting wireless mouse and keyboard issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3048
If the issue persists, I recommend reviewing the section titled "Top troubleshooting tips" in the article below.  Step 9 specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:
    9. Restart your computer
Sometimes a simple restart of your Mac is all it takes to get things running smoothly again. You may also want to try resetting your computer's PRAM and NVRAM.
