Using preview files from Pr 5.5

I use the Suite 5.5 and this question is about Encore when using the Dynamic link from Premier Pro (Pr).  I have always used the automated way to import from Pr to Encore.  It automatically compresses as needed to fill the DVD.  And because my video is almost always under 2 hours that works great.  Even for videos that are over 2 hours long.  Now here is the problem:
Sometime I use several effects in [Pr] and render so I can better see what I am doing without all that skipping.
I would like to use the render files (previews) for making the DVD in Encore when transcoding.
Yes, I understand you go to Edit Quality Presets and at the bottom you checkmark the [Use Previews] box.  But now it is nolonger automatically compressing the file to fit the DVD, or I don't it so.
So the question is:
How can I use the preview files (rendered files) from [Pr] to speed up the transcoding in Encore and automatically size fit the Video to fill the DVD.
Thank you,
Tom

I don't think you can get both aspects - automatic or use previews.
The settings for a dynamic link transcode are in Encore. When a preset is selected, "use previews" is not selected by default, but can be selected by customizing the preset. But you have no control over the settings used for the automatic setting, beyond the default transcode setting, which for DVD is basically the max bitrate.
A "bit" of bitrate calculation and you'll still be good to go.

  • How to use .mod files from a JVC camcorder?

    Hi All,
I'm trying to find the proper workflow for using .mod files from a JVC Everio model camcorder. I was able to transfer the files onto my system by simply using the included usb cable from the unit. It simply mounted the camera's flash card on my desktop and I was able to drag all of the files from it.
As others have posted, the .mod files are not accessible using the Import function in FCP. I am able to open them with MPEGStreamClip as other have suggested. My question is, how should the files be converted to use with FCP and/or DVDSP? In MPEGStreamclip the file shows the video stream as: 224 MPEG-2, 720 × 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps, 8.40 Mbps, upper field first. I tried a few of the demux functions. The straight demux to .m2v & .ac3 yields a file that opens in QT, but it shows up as a 640x480 file and is noticably squeezed. Using the demux unscaled yields a file that opens in QT as a 720x480 file and looks somewhat better. And using the demux to headed yields as file that opens in QT as 720x404 and presumably is the correct 16:9 ratio.
Trying to use those same files in DVDSP didn't get me very far. If I create a new HD project in DVDSP I can import the straight demuxed file and the headed file. The unscaled file won't import. If I add the imported files to tracks the straight demuxed one will play in the simulator but the headed one simply shows a green screen.
I'm hoping that since MPEGStreamclip can play the files, its just a question of figuring out the proper export/conversion settings. My end goal is to produce a dvd of the footage (not exactly sure if I should be using an HD project or a SD project set to letterbox). I also need to produce a web-ready version of the footage. I haven't tried this yet but I'm assuming that one of the QT exports from MPEGStreamclip will get this done correctly.
Hopefully someone has a workable solution for these files.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi all,
I looked further on this forum and found others that had the same problem. One suggested connecting the cam corder first, then start iMovie, then wait for a few minutes. I did this and it worked!!!!!
    Problem solved.
    Thanks.

  • "Use Preview Files" works in CS5.5 but is "Useless" in CS6

I'm a heavy user of the "Use Previews Files" option when exporting files. This has worked great with Premiere CS5.5 but using the same method in CS6 no longer works and reverts back to rerendering the original files in the timeline and rerendering all the effects on them which is very time consuming since the original files are HD and are being downscaled in a DV widescreen timeline.
Anyone figure out how to get Premiere CS6 to correctly find the preview files when exporting using the "Use Preview Files" option?
In the meantime, I had to load all the preview files I had rendered back into a new timeline and reassemble them in the correct order. Once I did that, I exported this 1 hour 38 minute timeline to an MPEG-2 file which only took 19 minutes instead of the 7 hours it would have taken even with the "Use Preview Files" on and with a fully rendered timeline.
Again, it works great in CS5.5 so something changed in CS6 to make the "Use Preview Files" useless now.

OK, decided to do a simple project and test the preview files. One HD AVCHD video clip, 24 minutes long. Dropped into a DV widescreen project and the video clip downscaled to match the project. Added a color correction filter, Shadow/Highlight filter and Sharpen filter. Cut the clip into 4 pieces and adjusted the color correction on each. This will generate 4 preview files. This is basically what my larger project involve but with many more video clips.
Did not render timeline or make any preview files then exported an MPEG-2 file. Took 35 minutes.
Rendered timeline which produced 4 preview files in the DV AVI format. Took 1 hour.
Exported an MPEG-2 file again but this time selected "Use Preview Files". Took 35 minutes.
Exported a DV AVI file (same format as the Preview files) but this time selected "Use Preview Files". Took 35 minutes.
Imported the 4 DV AVI preview files and put into a new sequence. Exported an MPEG-2 file using no preview files. Took 3 minutes.
Imported the 4 DV AVI preview files and put into a new sequence. Exported a DV AVI file using no preview files. Took 1 minute 30 seconds.

  • Settings when using mp4 files from Samsung GS3

    Hi,
Does anyone know the settings I should select when creating a New PE10 Project and using mp4 files from a Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone?
    Thanks

    Ms Spielberg
If you are using video files from the Samsung Galaxy S3, from what I have read, it offers 1080p up to 30, that being 1920 x 1080 @ 30 progressive frames per second. Is that correct? If so, please consider.
The project preset should match the properties of your source media. In setting the Premiere Elements 10 Windows project preset (new project dialog), the choice of one of the FIip project presets range from frames sizes 640 x 480 to 1280 x 720. So, they would not be a match.
Consequently, I would ask you to consider the project preset if your source media from this Samsung Galaxy S3 are as I have read 1080p30.
NTSC (or PAL as the case may be)
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30 or DSLR 1080p30 @ 29.97
In Premiere Elements 10 after you set the project preset, then you import your media with Get Media.
    a. If you can connect your phone to the computer, you could explore Get Media/Flip/AVCHD/Cameras, Phones or Removable Drive as I think SG is suggesting.
    or
    b. If your phone files are saved to a hard drive location, then Get Media/Files and Folders.
Are you also asking for export suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Can I use mp3 files from different domain as the feed?

    Hi..
I have just created a new podcast here:
    http://artistsofliving.com/?feed=podcast
I would like to submit the podcast to iTunes sometime soon...
However, I'm wondering if they will reject it because the feed lives on 'artistsofliving.com', whereas I keep the media mp3 files on 'livinginthepresent.com'... a different domain.
I own the mp3 content and both domains- I'm splitting the media from the website for bandwidth reasons.
Is this ok? If this causes a rejection straight out is there a way to indicate that I own the material fairly?
    Thanks!
    -rich

There's no problem about using media files from any source: the feed just has to reference them (the URLs have to be 'absolute' - i.e. including the http:// and the server name - even if the file is on the same server as the feed anyway). I don't see the fact that some files have different URLs leading to accusations of copyright breach.

  • Use preview files unchecked, but uses preview files?

Premiere Pro CS4 running on Windows XP MCE SP3 on a core two duo processor (Yes, I know it is underpowered, but it works well enough for my current projects) and a three internal HDD setup.
When exporting to mpeg2 - DVD I make sure to check "maximum render quality" and uncheck "use preview files".
I noticed that if the timeline is rendered before export, then a one minute video will complete export in about one minute.
If the timeline is left unrendered before export, however, the export will take about twenty minutes.
I thought that the export is not affected by whether or not the timeline is rendered as long as preview files are not used.
Am I mistaken, or is something not right?

If Use Render Files is unchecked, then the program should not be using them. With MPEG-2, there is not really that much that can be gained, as the Render files are AVI.
Also, what are the specs. of the Clips on the Timeline?
I would check things like the WAB (Work Area Bar), just to make sure that you are seeing apples vs apples, so to speak.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Rebuild PremierePro project using Preview Files?

I'm using PP CS6 on a Mac and I have lost my original video files (long story but they are gone).  The timeline still has the audio but instead of the video, I get a red screen missing media message.
However, in the Preview Files folder, I can see the full res previews from the entire project.  Is there a way I can ask Premiere to use these preview files to rebuild and export the project?

    Unfortunately, no.

  • Re-Using XML file from decode barcode + extract xml process

I was hoping someone could put me in the right direction here. I am decodeing the information stored in a 2D Bar code and sending this information to an XML file, then I am trying to combine that xml file with a blank PDF template but the process is failing beacuse there are some additional tag fields the XML data from the  Decode->Extract XML process.
The XML file from the decode process gives the structure below..notice therer some extra tags (lines 2- 4)
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xdp:xdp xmlns:xdp="http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/" xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/">
    <xfa:datasets>
    <xfa:data>
    <form1>
The XML structure that is expected by the PDF template is as follows
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <form1>
So the xml output of the Decode barcode + Extract XML process has three extra lines of tag. Is there a way I could use a process within liveCycle to clean out those three lines in real-time before sending the xml to be recombined with the PDF template.
    Thanks

    Hi,
What you may do is to use the SetValue and its xpath builder functions to "serialize" the xml into string, "substring" to remove the extra tags, and "concat" to add the extra tags and then "deserialize" it again to an xml to be merged with your form.

  • Best workflow using DNG files from Odyssey 7Q in Premiere 8.1

Finally, the magenta highlights issue has been fixed in this new 8.1 version of Premiere - lovely! :-)
I'm wondering though, what the best workflow is when using 2K/4K raw dng image sequences from the Odyssey7Q? In this case, shot on the Sony FS700.
Is there a simple and easy way to batch import a bunch of clips?
The behavior of the Media Browser in Premiere is a little different than the last version... When you choose the individual dng clip folders it now shows one single dng sequence files instead of a bunch of individual png images. But you still have to browse to each clip folder and choose the dng sequence file. If you just choose the root that contains the clip folders or if you choose multiple clip folders, it will import the content of those folders as individual dng image files! Pretty annoying...
Does anyone know of a better way to import where you don't have to choose each clip manually?
Also, how do you bring a PP edit sequence into AE for ACR processing? You can't copy/paste the files and you can't choose "Replace With After Effects Composition" - those two methods will just import one single DNG frame into AE.
You can import a whole PP project into AE but that will just show the entire PP sequence as one single file. You can't access the individual clips or open it in ACR.
The best method I know of is export all the DNG sequences as proxies, edit the material using the proxies on PP timeline, copy/paste that into an AE comp and then manually replace each of the used proxy files with the original DNG files, which will open up the ACR. But that's a bit of a hassle...
Is there any way of taking advantage of the full dynamic range of the DNG files in Premiere? When I bring down and overexposed image using either fast color correction or by right-clicking on a clip and choosing "source settings..." and using the exposure slider, the image looks "flat" but when I do the same thing using the ACR, I can reintroduce the details otherwise lost in the overexposure.
Any info or advice on this will be greatly appreciated

    Hi EyelightKasper,
See if this method will work for you: Re: How to import multiple DNG files into Premiere
    Thanks!

  • Does the new firefox work when previewing files from Dreamweaver?

I use Dreamweaver CS3. I always preview my pages that I build in Firefox. After just downloading the newest firefox version (3.6.10), I could no longer preview files in Dreamweaver. When I go to preview the file, it just opens a firefox the application, not my webpage within firefox. Any ideas? I even edited my browser list within Firefox, removing Firefox as one of my browser options and replacing it again.

Dreamweaver CS3 doesn't work correctly in any Firefox 3.6 version.
There is a fix for Dreamweaver, so it works in Firefox 3.6+ versions:
    http://solutions.marketingmedley.com/
There is a $5.00 fee for that Dreamweaver fix. That website and the fix are not associated with Mozilla in any manner. Support for that fix is provided by that that website via email.

  • Using music files from DVD

Hey everyone, I was wondering how I would be able to "rip" the music files from a Dvd. I own the Korn Greatest Hits which includes a bonus DVD of their live concert at CBGB's. I absolutely love it, but I do not know how to take the audio files off of it. Is there a way to do this? Thank you for your help.

The best approach for this would probably be to import the dvd into your computer as an mpeg 4 or something similar, then use specialized software to extract the sound from it. Check out hand break for the dvd ripping, and look on versiontracker.com for something which maybe able to extract the audio. If this doesnt work, then im out of easy ideas...

  • Is it possible to use a file from CS6 in CS5.5

I'm hoping to buy CS6 but I use CS5.5 at college. Is it possible to bring a file from CS6 into CS5.5. If not, where can I get CS5.5?

PS files are backward compatible if you save them with maximum compatibility enabled. likewise, AI files can be saved back to older versions. Of course in both cases specific features from CS6 will be lost or rasterized to pixels, so they are not editable in CS5.5. In Design might be a bit more tricky. It supports saving back to CS5.5, but this may completely ruin your documents, if you use the new dynamic layout features, Arabic text etc., so it's less useful to go that route.

  • Can't preview files from a network drive to a local CF9 server.

    Hi,
I have the following set up:
    CF9 Local Dev version
    CF Builder 2.
Project files are in a network drive N:\project
I have RDS set up and everything seems to work ok, view DSN, files, etc on my local server.
In the URL prefix section I even created a map:
    Local Path: N:\project,
    URL prefix: http://localhost:8500/project/
There is no FTP set up on the CF9 server.
The problem is that when I try to preview a file that I am working on from N:\project, it doesn't show on my local server. The previewing part works if I manually move the file to CF9. But it is the automatic uploading (or moving) of the file to the local CF9  that doesn't seem to work.
BTW, I have a similar set up in DreamWeaver, where I am editing the same project (or site in this case) off of  N:\project, uploading to the same local CF9 server through RDS, and it works fine.
I know that if in CF Builder you move the project to under the web root it will work but that would not work for us, since we need to keep the project source files on a network drive for sharing/backup purposes.
Has anyone been able to successfully preview source files from a network drive on a local CF9 server?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi again,
After doing some more googling I realize that for files to be previewed the MUST be under wwwroot. This wasn't too clear in the CF documentation.
    So my new question is:
Is there are way, once I save a file to automatically copy it from one location(N:\project) to another (c:/ColdFusion9/wwwroot/project)?
I think there is a way to do it with Ant or some sort of Eclipse feature, but I am not too familiar with either. Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,

  • How do I use MPL file from Panasonic camcorder in iMove?

My file type from my Panasonic HDC-SD9 doesn't show up when I open iMOVE. Doesn't iMOVE support MPL files from Panasonic?

I'm guessing your files were MTS or something else, as I've never heard of an MPL file. You should ask your question over in the iMovie forum as this one deals specifically with Final Cut Express.
Edit: As I recall we were discussing using your camcorder in FCE over here:
