Using Preview's Slideshow, Add to iPhoto does nothing

Preview has a SlideShow feature under the View menu. Using it to page through a PDF file I've printed from Excel, I've noticed the tools that appear at the bottom of the screen include an "Add to iPhoto" icon. When I click it, it highlights briefly, but nothing else seems to happen, and nothing gets added to iPhoto. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm trying to get images to post to a wiki, and this seemed like a particularly efficient way to do it...if it would only work.

Got the same problem on the iMac. Seemed to work OK today in my girlfriend's account on the MBP. If I use Quicklook to try to add the photos to iPhoto on either computer, it thinks it's done it (icon changes to one with a check mark) but doesn't. If it does I can't find the pictures in iPhoto.
Here's hoping that 10.5.2. will fix this one.

"Add to iPhoto" not in menu

Strange issue. In Tiger (10.4.11, fully updated), when a Mail message has one or more photos attached, there's the "Save" button in the message that, when pressed, displays (among other things) "Add to iPhoto". This does exactly what it's supposed to do. However, occasionally I see some Mail messages that, even though they do contain jpeg photos, that "Add to iPhoto" menu item does NOT appear. I know how to work around this (dropping the jpegs into iPhoto's window) but the inconsistency is puzzling.
Any answers or resolutions? Thanks.

It is possible the system that sent the original photos was XP but I'll have to check that; the person who is complaining about this also gets some eMails (I think from the same person) that -do- show the "Add to iPhoto" menu item.
All the files are, indeed, downloaded because she's using Apple Mail and it's a POP account.
All the attachments are identified as ".jpeg"
I forwarded some of the photos from one "problem" eMail (where the "Add to iPhoto" didn't appear) to my eMail account and the "Add to iPhoto" -does- appear. Same photos (well, I forwarded about 12 of the 25).
Mime Type: "image/jpeg"
I'll check on the client's machine and see if they have different MIME types on her system.

Clicking on the bookmark toolbar does nothing

Clicking on the bookmarks in the bookmark bar does nothing. However, when I right click, I can open the bookmarks, selecting either open, open in new window, or open in new tab.
I don't know if this is related, but clicking the "Add tab" button does nothing as well.

For the annotations to display on the photo in iPhoto you must setup Preview as the external editor in iPhoto via iPhoto's Advanced preference pane.
After adding the annotations just do a Save. iPhoto will then recognize the change via a new modified version. You can revert to the original at any time if you want to get rid of the text.

Iphoto does not use the proper display profile

Hello.
I just bought a 20' Apple Cinema display and connected it to my Macbook. I have noticed a very strange behavior of iPhoto and Preview.
I will first describe the expected (right behaviour).
When I drag an image opened in Adobe LG or Aperture from the Macbook display to the Cinema display (or the opposite) after a very small delay the color of the image adapts to the color profile of the display where it was dragged. Which is the correct the behavior.
With Preview or iPhoto this adaptation does not happen and the image is displayed with the right profile only on one of the 2 display. Besides being a very annoying issue, the very strange thing is how you can choose on which one of the displays the image gets displayed with the right display color profile:
- With Preview, the display color profile used (for both displays) is selected based on which is the default display in ColorSync display settings.
- With iPhoto, the display color profile used (for both displays) is selected based on which display the munu bar is (!!!). That is, if you want to have your image displayed with the right display profile on your cinema display, then you MUST have the menu bar on that display. If the menu bar is on the Macbook display the image on the cinema display will be displayed with the display profile of the Macbook display. Crazy!
You can try all of the above remembering that after any change you need to quit and reopen iphoto or preview or ColorSync for the settings to apply.
My question is: why neither iPhoto nor Preview act in the right way like Aperture or Adobe LG? Or at least, why iPhoto does not behave like Preview allowing me to choose where I want the menu bar without having this choice affecting the display color profile used to display my images?

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Slideshow using preview

it should be so easy !!!! why cant i do it ?
i use preview to view one photo of many in a folder, i then goto VIEW and select SLIDESHOW, the photo fills the screen, fair enough, but what do i have to do to view a slideshow of ALL the files in the same folder as the first picture, none of the obvious keys scroll either backwards, forward or up and down ?
i am obviously doing something wrong !

hey captfred, i had a quick look at Frontrow, it is mighty weird that you cant use the mouse/trackpad, i could only use the arrow keys !!!!
and of course if the photos haven't been imported into iPhoto first they don't show up in Frontrow !

Calendar production in iPhoto - does anyone know how I could tag a photo to show whether it's been used in previous years?

I'm in my 5th year of producing a calendar in iPhoto - does anyone know how I can tag previously used photos to avoid having to physically check back through hard copies?

Create a keyword for each year and then add that keyword to the photos as necessary with the Keyword pane.

IPhoto Slideshow - What am I doing wrong?

Had a Mac for about 6 months and have been using iPhoto very successfully. However, since upgrading to Mavericks the slideshow will only repeat the first slide in the album. Is this a coincidence or am I doing something stupid?

Had the same problem...
Discovered a work around.
Selected all images in the slideshow and used File/New Slideshow to create a new working Slideshow.

Currently, I want to edit slideshows and burn into IDVD. But I prefer the slideshow preview from iphoto "Book" which can edit more comments and slideshow function. Is it any way to select the slideshow from iphoto "book"? rather than just using the single function from the iphoto slideshow (which is not dynamic enough)... please help

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can create an iDVD slideshow of a book. It's relatively easy. It's described in Old Toad's Tutorial #6 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.. I create one for every book I buy. A great way for a group of people to view the book at once.

How did the photos that you want to copy off get on the iPad ? To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a Mac you should be able to use iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

IPhoto does not ask to use Photo, Can't import

I option created a new library and location for Photos on an external drive from my Aperture library. Most of the photos/projects and folders are not visible. It will also not let me import from my iPhoto library now that the new Photos library is created. They are greyed out. How do you get Photo to recognize previous libraries?

Hi - I'm having the same problem with freeing up space on the HD. If I can't free space if I'm using any part of the clip, how can I split up the clips so that I can discard the part I won't use? This is crazy! I have only 4 GB of free space left!
Also, I've tried to transfer the project file to my external HD but I keep getting an error saying I can't transfer it. I've been told this is because I don't have enough space on the HD for the transfer. I tried a similar transfer with another computer with plenty of HD space but the same error occurred. Is there a way to break up the project file into small pieces for the transfer (I'm thinking the whole movie file is just too big)?
