Using Printer via Time Capsule for Windows

Hi,
Could you please guide me how can I use printer connect to my time capsule from windows based PC. I can do it from my mac but unable to print it from Windows PC.
I have also downloaded Bonjour, it detects my HP printer 1018 but when it comes to driver it is not able to locate also tried so many different option for the driver but unfortuntely no luck so somebody please guide me to print (HP Laserjet 1018 printer) from windows connected via Time Capsule 2TB.

When you setup the printer choose a local printer.. then change the port to TCP/IP and type in the IP of the TC.
Complete the setup.. and choose the 1018 HP printer drivers.
That should be all there is to it.
Download the airport utility for windows and see if the printer is there.
Ensure you have the TC setup in WORKGROUP for file sharing.
Make sure the computer is in home.. not work or public.
Make sure you do not have homegroup activated.
If that doesn't work turn off the firewall and try again.

  • My HP8000 ptr will not print via time capsule showing problem as "...short read".  I've reset the printing sys on both MacBooks and the iBOOK?  Can you help?

I have been using a HP8000 printer via the USB connection on a TimeCapsule using wifi from a MacBook, MacBookPro and an iMAC (ethernet connected to Time Capsule) for a couple years before the printing stopped with a message of ".....short read" The printer still functions when directly connected to a Mac via a USB cable. Help???

Suggest that you work your way through Apple's Printer Troubleshooting Guide to see if you can get things going again.
The last item....reset printing system....will often work when all else fails, but try the other steps first.

  • 10.5.3: can't print via Time Capsule

This week, I bought Time Capsule for at home, replacing the AirPort Express we had. I also upgraded my iBook G4 to Leopard (and installed 10.5.3, via ComboUpdater) to by au par with my wife's MacBook (which came with Leopard, and was also upgraded to 10.5.3, via ComboUpdater).
Our printer is a HP LaserJet 1300, connected via USB to Time Capsule (was connected via USB to the AirPort Express).
On my iBook G4 and now with Leopard, I installed the printer (System Preferences) - and now I can't print. I've spent the last couple of hours Resetting printing systems, Resetting Time Capsules, browsing these forums - all to no avail. *Utter frustration!*
Can anybody *especially from Apple* shed a light on what the problem is?
We had two Apple notebooks with 10.4.11, a laser printer and AirPort Express - and it worked fine (printed with no hassles). Now we still have two Apple notebooks, both with 10.5.3, and our laser printer connected to Time Capsule - and we just can't print.
While delving into this mess now, I also connected my iBook straight to the printer (via USB), and could print. But I cannot imagine this to be the solution!!!
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Jan
My TC had to be replaced by apple because it wouldn't show any printers or external hard drives connected via usb. I ended up spending hours on the phone to apple ts and in the end I took my printer and lacie hd to a friend who had a tc and he connected both up to his tc straight away. Apple finally had to replace my TC. The replacement works fine.

  • Time capsule for window pc

I was wondering if the time capsul can backup the pc program as well and the backup can be use to re-install correctly on the pc, because the document creat in Mac may altered in pc.

Unless you dragged them there yourself or used a third-party product capable of backing up to network drives, they won't be there. There is no Time Machine for Windows, and the Mac OS X version of Time Machine won't back up a Windows drive or partition.

  • Hard drive networked through Time Capsule for Windows and Mac

My previous setup was using an old Dell laptop with Windows XP to network share both my Samsung laser printer and my Seagate GoFlex 2 tb drive formated to NTFS, and all Windows 7, Windows 8, and OS X 10.6+ machines in the house were successfully able to connect to both. My wife replaced her old Macbook Pro she got in 2008 and decided to get a Time Capsule as well to backup her iMac and new Macbook Air. I decided to take advantage of the "features" of the Time Capsule, and hubbed the single port, just as I had done with the old Dell. After installing Bonjour on the Windows 7 machines I was able to share the printer just fine, however I'm still unable to share the drive for some reason.
The Airport utility on both the Macs and Win 7 machines see the hard drive in utilities, the box in Airport for file sharing is checked, guest access turned off, secure disk sharing with device password, and workgroup matches my workgroup. However the hard drive still doesn't appear. I tried formatting it to FAT32 based on some older forums posted in 2008-2009 range, but then realized the hard drive is too large for that, and I'm not looking to have a bunch of smaller partitions. I tried exFAT, but that failed too. Now I'm back to NTFS, but still with the issue that none of the machines recognize hard drive via the Explorer/Finder.
The Time Capsule is functioning as a backup with Time Machine for her Mac's, but I'm looking to use the external drive connected more as a media center storage and storing selected individual files (think networked thumb drive/USB stick) from my machines.

Put the seagate drive onto the Mac and format it Mac OS extended journaled. (HFS+ for short) and you will also need to change the partition over to GUID from MBR.
TC has very limited formats it can recognise.. FAT32 and HFS+ (well FAT16 but that doesn't count). exfat no, ntfs no, Really with FAT32 being hopeless.. you have one choice .. HFS+.
The Windows machines can handle files to the drive just fine.. because it is a network drive.. it is offered to the network as SMB protocol.. in windows it will look like NT server. The precise format of the drive is irrelevant and is handled by the firmware of the TC.
But do reset the partition scheme to GUID.. not MBR.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ph5845
You can even put 2 or more partitions on it.. but only one is fine.

  • Connecting PC to Printer VIA Time Capsule?

I have an HP Printer that's running Windows 7, I have it connected via ethernet cable to my Time Capsule. I also have an HP C5180 printer connected to the Time Capsule via USB cable.
I have the printer connected to the Time Capsule so I can also access it with my Macbook Pro. That part is working fine, BUT... Windows is not detecting the printer. How do i set everything up so I can use the printer with the PC?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do a google around for that printer and airport usb.. (since airport is more common).

Not all printers work or work well through usb print server.. often the drivers are just not written for remote usb connection. Or the printer is GDI type and actually needs direct connection to process the job.
Proper network inkjet printers are cheap.. keep the Canon connected to a computer if you want.. and get a wireless or ethernet network printer.. do not use the USB.. use the printers own internal print server.. and these days make sure it does airprint if you want to use iOS devices.
Remember the printer is cheap.. the companies make all their money on blades ink cartridges. Which they now add chips to, to prevent you cheating and buying OEM types.

  • TS1253 Print via Time Capsule without being connected to my router

My router and my printer are in two different places.
It all prints well when the TC (Time Capsule) is connected via Ethernet cable to my router and printer connected via USB to TC
Can I use Time Capsule to print even if it is not connected to the router via Ethernet cable?
My TC is connected via USB to the printer but TC is not connected to the router because the TC and the router are not in the same place. Why can't I print via wi-fi?
    Thanks,
    l.cello

If I want a fast backup I use the Ethernet cable.
The Ethernet ports are not enabled when you configure the Time Capsule to "join" the network using wireless only.  You can only backup using wireless, whether you have Ethernet connected or not. Apparently, the "support" folks did not tell you about this.
I just do not see why this setup would take longer.
    You are kidding, correct?
    Gigabit Ethernet is 1,000 Mbps.
With a fantastic wireless connection, you might get 200-250 Mbps.  Most users see about 100-130 Mbps.
As for why your Time Capsule setup will take twice as long as normal wireless .....
Backups have to make a wireless "double hop".  Hop one is from your Mac to the wireless router. Hop two is from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule.  Two hops = double the time.
Since you can only use wireless, your actual backup speed will be in the range of 100-125 Mbps, maximum.  When you try your first backup on a Mac, it will likely take days, not a few hours as it should.
Since you have another hard drive attached to the Time Capsule, any copies of transfers to this drive will be exceedingly slow as well.
Unfortunately, the support folks did you no favors by providing the steps to this type of installation.
At least, they could have told you about the downsides.....which can all be avoided by connecting your Time Capsule to your modem/router using an Ethernet cable as the Setup Guide recommends.
thought that another reason to have and use a TC is to be able to use USB peripherals connected to the TC in wi-fi, like printers. This was the center of my question to start with.
Easy to do if the Time Capsule is connected to your modem/router using an Ethernet cable.
If you will, let us know how long that first backup of your Mac takes using your setup.

  • Can you print to an Ethernet only printer via Time Capsule

Hi all, I'm hoping to get some help before buying a Time Capsule.
I run a small home office, I have Pro Mac desktop and an 17" Macbook Pro, my wife runs a Powerbook. We output to a A3 colour Epson Aculaser AL 8600. Our current set up is to print share back to the Pro Mac which is beside the big laser printer in the attic.
Can we all connect the printer to the ethernet port on the Time Capsule and have a reliable access to print wirelessly? Or can you only print via USB?
Many thanks in advance of any help received.....

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking the same too, however any searches or posts here indicate you can only print via the usb port, plus, to confuse me even more, my local mac store suggested I buy an airport express with the time capsule and connect the express to the printer so it can talk to the capsule! Yeah! even though the capsule has ethernet ports....
I still need opinions form users who have done this?

  • Using two connected time capsules for backup: How?

    Hi,
After a big i-Mac problem, I had to reinstall OSX from disc and after, 'restoring' my backup from Time Machine, I discovered that my time machine backups were my data only, NOT software or programmes. :-(
So I had a new imac with no progrmmes at all installed. Long story..... 2 or 3 days of reinstally and restoring work later my imac is 'back to new' with all programmes installed and data all safe.
It's a 2TB imac so I have bought a new 3TB Time Capsule and used time machine to back up the ENTIRE computer this time.  Seems so far so good.
My question is what to do with my older 2TB time capsule?
At the moment I have it 'daisy-chain' connected to the 3TB via an ethernet cable and with its internet switched off and in bridge mode, trying to use it just an an external 2TB hard disk.
The new 'main' 3TB one is ethernet connected to my cable modem/router (SBG900)
In addition to my time machine backups to the 3TB, I wanted to backup my entire 2TB imac using Carbon Copy cloner or ChronoSyncon to the second Time capsule, the 2TB one as a 'second' double-safe backup.
I can 'see' both discs using finder and both have 'green lights' and seem to be working well but I can't' 'see' or select the 2TB TC using Chronosync when I try to select that as the destination disc for  left-to-right' backup or creation of bootable disk.
I noticed also on the CCC site that it can't backup to a time capsule and that time capsure can't be used as a bootable disk?
Basically, I want to make sure that come my next 'imac crash/failure. that I don't have to spend 2 or 3 days reinstalling everything.  I'd love to be able to just 'restore' relatively "easily" from a safe, external disk somewhere and have the computer back to exactly how it was 'pre-crash'.
Am I expecting too much?  And what would be the best way to use my older 2TB time capsule?
    any help appreciated
    Philip

It can.  Click View all under the Example Backup Scenarios in the help.
and that time capsure can't be used as a bootable disk?
That's correct.  But you can back up to it and restore from it.

You can do that with Time Machine backups no matter where they are.  But you don't boot from them; you start from your Recovery HD and use its installer to restore them to your Mac.
You can also do it with CCC's backups.  You just can't boot from them if they're on a network drive.
See Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #14 for the gory details.  In step (f) you can choose a Time Capsule (3rd sample) or a CC or SuperDuper clone (not shown in the sample).

  • I want to download software for airport time capsule for windows

please informe me how to install time machine application for windows 8.1 OS?

Time Machine is an application that will only run on a Mac.
If you might be asking about AirPort Utility, which is used to setup and configure a Time Capsule, we need to know which version of the Time Capsule that you have.
Please check on the bottom of the Time Capsule to locate the model number.

  • Can't connect macbook to wireless printer via time capsule

I recently installed time capsule as my lan router. i use a 10.6.8 macbook; i use a brother mfc-6490 printer wireless. the printer was working fine on my previous setup, which used just a normal wireless router. the printer sees the wireless network but i can't print to it from my macbook. i've reinstalled the drivers. any suggestions?

Did you delete the existing printer in System Preferences > Print & Fax, and add it again?
I realize you reinstalled the printer's drivers, but deleting and subsequently adding the printer is certain to be a requirement as a consequence of changing your router. As far as your MacBook is concerned, the printer no longer exists where it had been accustomed to finding it, so you simply have to tell it where it "lives" now.

  • How do I manage to setup my Canon to print via Time Capsule

    Dear MacGurus
I've got a Canon MP520 printer/scanner that I've connected to my MacBook Air (OS X 10.8.1) and works well with printing & scanning. Just received my 2TB Time Capsule and want to set it up as a printerserver. I've joined it to my local WLAN that connects to Internet and set it up with Time lapse for backup.
Now, plugging the MP520 USB into the back of the TC I go to System Preferences -> Print & Scan. Here I naturally see the MP520 being unplugged from my McBook Air (as it is now plugged in to the TC...) Anyway, I click the small [+]-icon and selects "Add new printer or scanner". Here I now see the "Canon MP520 series" listed as a "Bonjour"/printer with Location on my TC. Selecting it and clicking "Add" a pop/says "Setting up Canon MP520 series-2, downloading software" and the progress par reaches some 30% progress when I get the following error message:
"Can't install the software for the Canon MP520 series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
What is the problem? The printer works fine locally, but not over the air. Is it not supported by Bonjuor?
    Kind regards
    Niclas

Much more likely they don't have network drivers for ML.. try downloading whatever software is required directly and then installing it instead of allowing auto install.

  • USB connected printer won't print via Time Capsule

When I go into my Airport Utility, the Time Capsule says that the the printer is connected, but whenever I try to print I get a "Printer Offline" error message.
Any suggestions for what I can try to remedy the situation? Is there anything else you need to know?
    Thanks in advance.
