Using PSE 9 Organizer Mac

I have all my images stored in various folders with the folder names being events or whatever. Is there any way to retain this structure in Organizer as I import photos? Perhaps albums can be used instead of instead of events. I tried directly importing into an album but apparently you cannot do this. Adobe Bridge retains the file structure.

Elements Organizer supports iPhoto version 8.0 - 8.1.2.
Select Files > Get Photos And Videos > From iPhoto.

    Hi Cody
Sorry to hear about your difficulties.
It should be very uncommon for Pages to crash. I've been using it for years on a daily basis and it's only happened to me once except when I was trying to replicate a bug for someone.
Your experience might be a symptom of an underlying problem with your system. I recommend that you back all your stuff up now.
Whilst trying to isolate the issue, I recommend that you manually create frequent backups of your documents using the Finder after a successful save until you can trust it.
Next, use disk utility to do a repair permissions on your hard drive.
Also, after quitting Pages, try trashing your ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWorks.Pages.plist file (back it up first if you want) and restarting Pages.
If this doesn't work, there are loads of troubleshooting tips here: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/faqs.html. I also recommend that you read the tips on system maintenance.
In case you didn't already know this, Pages files are actually packages. Control-click on the icon and select Show Package Contents to see what's inside. You may be able to recover some text from the files in there. I don't believe there are any repair utilities. Nor is the file format available.
    I hope this helps you.

  • Catalog DVDs in PSE organizer

    Hi folks,
I am looking for some search terms to find recommendations on how to use PSE organizer to catalog several hundred hours of personal video footage on DVD.
I've tried searching Adobe's forums, Google and Elements Village to find some clues if Organizer can be used for this.  Ideally, I would grab a screenshot from DVD, store it as a thumbnail reference the DVD name, and then be able to use tags (ideally, I'd like to use my existing still catalog tags) to lookup scenes for editing in Premiere Elements.
Again, not looking immediately for the answers in this thread - just how to find the answers if they already exist.
    thanks
    -j

    James,
    Interesting question.
You say you have searched on the Adobe forums and Elements Village, so my first suggestion is that you add another source. Muvipix.com is a site formed by several book authors and Adobe Premiere Elements forum participants.   It has free forums and also subscription offerings. It has been a great source of Premiere Elements information for me.
    My expereince -
I have taken a screen shot of a .mpg file (containing SD MPEG-2 video from a HD camcorder) and used it to represent the video by saving the screen shot using a file name that correlates to the video file. I also used the Organizer command to modify the "date taken" field it uses for Organizer sequencing to be the same date in this screen shot jpeg as the video file from which it was taken. (Ideally this is the date the video was originally recorded.)  The screen shot can be captured from the video using either Premiere Elements or the Photoshop Elements Editor.
My interpretation of your post is that
your DVD disc is of a video DVD format: it probably has a folder structure with DVD menus and several files which contain the video. You want to effectively tag the contents of this DVD disc with Adobe Elements Organizer tags.
Because you are working with a DVD video disc (rather than my single video file on the hard drive), there are additional questions for your scenario.
So I suggest that you also post your question over on the muvipix forums at
    http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/index.php
Those forums are divided into sections and despite that fact that this started here as a Photoshop Ekements question, I recommend that you post in the muvipix Premiere Elements corner. If you don't currently have Prem Elem installed, I suggest choosing the most recent version subforum - PE version 8: otherwise choose the version that you have installed.

Perhaps try the Editor top menu:
    File > Process Multiple Files
Then choose an output folder on your hard drive or CD/DVD etc.
    Otherwise use iPhoto:
File -> Export, Kind: Original etc.

Hello alltogether! I use PSE 7 on my PC with windows XP and now want to change to a new Mac with the newest version PSE . Is it possible to move all my albums and tags to that new version? Thank you very much for your kind answers! Candyapple111

    1. Install PSE 11 in windows, upgrade your catalog, then make a full backup  to a removable drive, like a usb drive, using the organizer's back up command. If you buy the boxed version you get discs for both platforms.
    2. Install PSE on the mac.
    3. Restore the backup to the mac. Point the restore to the .tly file in the folder, not the enclosing folder.

  • Organizer will not open on PSE 8 Mac, how do i access?

I just installed PSE 8 for Mac. I chose this version of PSE for the organizer which I was trained in and intend to transfer files from I -Photo (someway) to PSE. Anyway the issue now is that there is no organizer tab to set up organization. There is an essential tab but it does not respond. Can anyone help ?

I read the intro to new PSE 8 which specifically indicated
that it had Organizer...the first time for Mac.
No, not this time, I'm afraid. Still no organizer. Where did you see this?
I don't use either organizer or iphoto much, because I just don't love asset management programs, but to use iphoto with PSE, you have two choices:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor and send your photos from iphoto. Save, not Save As, without changing name or format (you may need to go into the PSE preferences>On First Save to be able to do this) and iphoto will remember one edited photo version plus original.
    2. Export your photos from iphoto before editing, then use File>Open in PSE, reimport the edited photos under a new name. This allows you to save as many different versions and formats as you like.
I mostly use bridge and my own folder system for organizing photos.
In PSE 8 it is technically possible to open photos in iphoto using the Open command in PSE, but since their thumbnails never update in iphoto and you can't right click to choose any editing options after doing this, I'd advise against it, since evidently iphoto doesn't like it much.

  • Standard Picture Packages using PSE 10 with a Mac.

I am unable to print out a standard picture package using PSE 10 with a Mac.   I like to print 3 4" X 6" Pic Package with different images.  It is impossible. I had a PC and Elements 8 before with no problem.  I followed all the help instructions to no avail.  What can I do?

With Mac, I am unable to find a 3 4" X 6" (example) picture package in PSE 10 Edito
File>Picture Package>choose 8x10 for the working area and you should see:
Then go up to the top and choose an image. It will appear in all the zones. Just click a zone in the preview to change to another image. It's actually a more robust package than in organizer--you can save it as a file, for one thing, instead of having to recreate it each time. All printing in the mac version happens from editor, so that's where they put the picture package and contact sheet. You can also create and save custom layouts via the Edit Layout button. This is the same picture package and contact sheet that came for many years in PS, so if you look for PS tutorials (pre-CS6) you should be able to find very detailed instructions.

  • Switched to MAC and can't figure out how to use PSE 4.0 for MAC photo bin

I have been using PSE 3.0 and PSE 5.0 but switched to a mac and now am using PSE 4.0. I can't seem to get the photo bin to work/behave as it does in 3.0/5.0. I use PSE for digital scrapping and used the photo bin to drag images to/for and to store layouts I selected for use in my pages. On the MAC I can't seem to drag anything to the photo bin. Sorry this is a basic question I'm sure...I am not so savvy w/ the MAC environment yet. Please help. Thanks in advance.

I use PSE 11 on a PC with Windows 7. I have around 40,000 tagged jpg files in a catalog in Organizer. For the past several months everytime I have tried to back up the catalog, Organizer freezes. I add and tag new items all the time, but haven't been able to back up Organizer since last December. Please help me figure out what to do. Thanks!

I'm happy to report that I've managed the resolve this issue of mine
After a little discussion with customer support through online chat today, I was still advised to try the uninstall and install to see what happens.
So I used the CC cleaner tool first, restarted then started by installing CS2 then CS5 using my serial numbers and made sure that I selected 32 and 64 bit programs to be installed
Anxiously, I restarted my laptop to see if it would reboot okay and thankfully it did *relief!*
Now I can open avi files using 32 bit of Photoshop CS5 without any problems (thank goodness!!)
I think I probably didn't install the 32 bit program when I first bought the installation CD, since I thought I didn't need it but never knew it was still required for editing avi files!!
Surprisingly, I still got to keep both versions of CS2 and CS5 this time around, as CS2 was simply replaced by CS5 when I first installed it two years ago....hmm.
    So thank you again gener7!

  • Using PSE catalog/organizer with CS5

I have been using PSE 7 for a while and have just transitioned to Photoshop CS5.
I would like to use the catalog from PSE for organizing photos, and PS CS5 for editing.
In the PSE preferences I have tried to notify PSE that I want to use PS CS5 as the supplementary editor. All I get is a message that says I do not need to choose PS as the other editor as PSE already supports using PS from the edit menu and edit toolbar (which I can`t see how that would happen).
It is my guess that PSE catalog/organizer and PS CS5 do not interact, and that I can use both but independently.
    Is my guess correct?

Thanks, MTSTUNER. I now see that option in PSE Edit menu. However, when I select it there is a message that Thumbnails are being updated, and a copy of the photo is made in the organizer. PS does not launch, and if I launch PS first, the photo still does does not appear in PS.

  • Help needed with PSE 9 Organizer - Mac Version

I downloaded the trial version of PSE 9 and when I created a Catalog of my existing pictures in the Organizer, all the pictures were duplicated in my hard drive, in a subfolder where the catalog was saved. I don't want duplicate pictures, is there a way to uncheck the "copy files on import" option when creating a new catalog in the Organizer? On my Mac, that option is greyed out in the "Get Videos and Photos" window and is set to "copy only". Is there another way to uncheck it?
    Thanks,
    Mike C.

    Hi Mike,
PSE works with refrences to the files . The files are not duplicated on your system. The 'Copy Files on import option' comes to play and is enabled only when you are importing files present on external drives like CD/DVD/USB, etc. Then you have the option to either copy files to your hard drive or simply work with low resolution previews. Read more at http://don26812.wordpress.com/2010/01/24/handling-offline-media-on-cddvds-in-pses-organize r/ to know more about working with previews of files present on external drives.Hope that clears.
    Thanks

  • Using PSE 7 Organizer with other editors?

I use NX2 for most of my editing but want to get PSE7 to catalogue my photos across folders. Does PSE7 allow right clicking to "open with" another editor? I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that it will update thumbnails if edited and saved in a another editor designated as "supplementary" but I haven't been able to figure out if you can easily open the file for editing in another editor directly from the organizer.
    Thanks
    Chris

The PSE Organizer does indeed support supplementary editors. You select a file in the Organizer, do Edit > Edit with
    editor.

  • Relocating (moving) pictures in an Organizer Album using PSE 6.0

I am using  PSE 6.0. I have my pictures in the Organizer as an album. The pictures are currently in Date (oldest first) order and that is the order I generally want. However I want to move some pictures before others, for example, PIC 10 (dated Jan. 23, 2010) to be in front of PIC 5 (dated Jan. 17, 2010)? Also I want to duplicate a picture and move its copy to another place in the album. Is there a way to move pictures around in the order you wish once that have been brought into PSE from your hard drive? Thanks for any help.

You must first choose the album from the panel on the right. The thumbnails contained in that album can then be dragged around and form the new running order. Change from newest/oldest to Album Order (the third choice only becomes available within the album; not the overall catalog which has just the two sort options).

  • PsE 8 Mac, ACR 5.7, no "Open Image" button in ACR?

A forum search was unproductive, so I apologize if this question has an obvious answer.
I've been a user of the full version of Photoshop for many years.  Now I find myself temporarily using PsElements 8 and ACR 5.7 on someone else's iMac.
After editing an image in ACR from Bridge CS4 (the one that comes with PsElements), I don't see an "Open Image" button in ACR.  How do I open the image in PsElements 8?
Puzzled.  Is this a sign that ACR is not installed properly?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your reply, Barbara.
I am fully familiar with the full version of ACR that comes with the real Photoshop.  That's what I use at home on my desktop machine.
It's the PsElements version that I know nothing about.
The last paragraph of your post may hold a clue, but there's more to the issue I'm seeing here.  As you well know, the Mac version does not come with the Organizer, but with Bridge CS4.  I followed the PsElements-specific instructions for the ACR 5.7 download, as follows:
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8:
NOTE:  You must follow all of the new instructions in order to
successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge
    2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.dmg and follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 8/Plug-Ins/FileFormats/
    5. Copy the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new
folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need
    to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4, and overwrite the exiting file.
    7. Launch Photoshop Elements or Adobe Bridge.
That works fine for PsE 8 but does not let Bridge see, preview or open RAW files.  I had to go ouside the instructions and put another, additional copy of the ACR plug-in either in ./ Library/ Application Support/ Adobe/ Plug-ins/ CS4/ File Formats/ Camera Raw.plugin or, alternatively, in ./ Applications/ Adobe Bridge CS4/ Plug-Ins/ , otherwise Bridge shows me only generic icons for the raw files.
    The
    Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 8/Plug-Ins/FileFormats/
location does work as advertised for PsE, regardless.
My guess is I should uninstall PsE and Bridge, re-install both and then update to ACR 5.7.
If that still doesn't work, I'll see if there is a PsE version 9 for the Mac.  The computer owner barely uses PsE as it is and does not want to mess with the full version of the real Photoshop.
Personally, I'll be happy to go back home on Monday and forget this ordeal with PsE.   :-/
With the above instructions—taken from the Download page—there is no way to see thumbnails and/or previews of raw file in the Bridge provided with PsE.  Adobe has definitely gone down the tubes—and I know you're not Adobe.
    Barbara B. wrote:
…Basically in bridge acr, you use the save button to save in the format of your choice and then open that file into PSE if you wish.
Wow! That is certainly NOT the case with ACR hosted by Bridge in the full version of the real Photoshop!
Thanks for the help.  Much obliged.

  • Multiple Offline Images in PSE 10 Mac

    Hi there,
I am using PSE 10 on Mac, never used prior versions so no risk of mix up there.
I have always added my photos using the Organizer, and backed up my catalog to an external drive.
Have never deleted or moved photos using anything other than the Organizer.
Yet I open organizer and a HUGE proportion of my files have a red circle in the corner flagging them as Offline. My backup drive is still connected, and obviously the hard drive is still there, so why would it think files are offline? More importantly, how do I bring them "online" into my catalog and keep them there so they are always available and located where PSE thinks they should be? I don't want to risk losing any so I haven't yet restored from backup or repeated backup yet.
    Help!
    DR

    Barbara,
Thanks for the information about the SD card. But as for the DVD I created, it WAS done in PSE6 -- through the Burn DVD command in Bridge, which I assume is there expressly to provide a way of burning JPEGs onto a DVD. The DVD that resulted did display correctly on my TV -- but as I said, only for the images straight out of the camera, not the ones modified in PSE6. I will try using iDVD, but I'm not clear why the result would be any different.
