Using public google calendars and having others subscribe on the Iphone.

I recently created a public calendar in google. I have sent the ics link out to all those who want to see it and most have subscribed to the calendar.
If the others want to get alerts when there are changes made to the calendar, how does that work? Can I do this in the google calendar? Does the iphone user do it on their end? Can this not happen with a public calendar?
Thanks for any insight.

Posted in the wrong place! I've reposted it in iCal forums.

I use iCal with Google Calendar, either on my Macs and iPhone and I am plenty satisfied.
I also need, for my job, tu use an exchange (2007) calendar. It works fin on my iPhone but it doesn't want to start on the Macs. It asks fot an echange server update. Why is it doing differntly on both platforms: OS X and iOS?
Is there a turn around method, cause my IT departement is not willing to consider this upgrade...
    Thnak you for your advices.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your phone. Only if you back up manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your device without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the iPhone for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Using multiple Google calendars through my iPhone, my work calendar treats my personal calendar like a separate account and won't let me modify the events from my phone.

I have multiple calendars on my Google account, though I mostly use my work calendar and my personal calendar. The personal calendar is the main one attached to my Gmail account. My problem is that when I create an event on my work calendar, it registers it weirdly: it says that my work calendar invited "me" (my personal calendar) to attend. This means that I'm left with limited options, either to "accept" the event, which copies it from my work calendar to my personal calendar (not what I want, since I have two separate calendars for a reason), or "decline," which makes the event visible on my computer, but invisible on my iPhone.  I also can't modify any of these events from my phone - all I can do is RSVP. Since my schedule changes day to day and I need to add notes and constantly modify the events, this is a huge inconvenience and is having a negative effect on my work because it has led to my messing up appointments.
Events have also been disappearing from my phone, despite the fact that they're visible on my computer, and I think that's because they're events of that type, where my work calendar somehow invited "me" to them, but they are hidden on my phone.  I have changed sharing permissions so that I am allowed to modify events in every way from every side, though it's really all on the same account, so I don't understand why this is happening.
Has anyone been through a similar situation?

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings.  Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account.  You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/
Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account.  (have restrictions turned off)  That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices.  Then sign in using the new ID.

  • I am using my calendar and need others to be able to book appointsments on my behalf, how can I syncronise them to ensure one, up to date calander at all times?

Hi all hope someone can help.  Just turned our small consultancy business into an Apple enterprise with 2 Imacs, an Ipad4 and IPhone 3g.  I want to run a consollidated calander where people can add appointments to my calander but if I am booking an appointment on the Ipad and my office manager is booking appointments I don't think we are sycronising properly as some of the appointments "get lost"  can anyone tell me where I am going wrong
    Wendy Garcarz

    Hi Wendy,
If I was in your shoes, I would use Google Calendar. With Google Calendar you can easily set up shared calendars. Google calendars also integrate well with the Mac OS X calendar app and the iOS calendar app so whether you are using the iMac, iPad, or iPhone you'll see all of your appointments as well as ones scheduled for you (by whoever you shared it with) on the native devices calendar (we use shared Google calendars all the time between Macs and iOS devices and it works great).
Have each of your employees sign up for a Google account. Once you sign in, click on the Calendar link at the top of the webpage. On the left side of the page under "My calendars" click on the drop down arrow. You should now see your name under My Calendars. Click on the drop down arrow next to your name and select Share This Calendar. Under "Share with specific people" you can enter the gmail address(es) of the employees who you want to grant access to. You have the ability to assign read only access if you just want other employees to see (but not schedule) your calendar, or assign read & write access for someone like your office manager so that he/she can schedule meetings for you.

There is so much that Google apps can do. Along with the calendar, we love the Goole Drive to share documents and spreadsheets. I could go on and on about Google apps but will instead give you these links:

  • ICal+iPhone Calendar+Google Calendar and mobile me

I have an iPhone 3g 2.1.... i am running the most recent version of Mac OSX and i have the newest iCal installed on my mac... My google calendar syncs with iCal through CalDAV. I also have Mobileme and it syncs with iCal. I want to be able to have a sync between iCal,Google Calendars and iPhone. I thought this would work with Mobileme. When i set up my calendar and google calendar it creates a different calendar.... I need the same calendar synced between all three..

I use nuevasync to sync my google calendar to my iphone. It is free and uses a microsoft exchange server format to automatically sync your phone calendar with your google calendar over the air.
IE: you don't have to sync your iphone with your computer. Instead, when you edit or add an event in your google calendar it will automatically update your iphone's calendar over the cell network, without you doing anything. Also, if you add or edit an event on your iphone's calendar, it will automatically update your google calendar as well. That way, you don't have to mess with ical. Just use google calendar and your iphone's calendar.
Since you've already got your iCal synching with your google calendar via CalDAV, your iCal will come along for the ride.
Thus, you can do all this for free, without mobileme, and without even having to plug your iphone into your computer to synch it.
Go to this website to check out Nuevasync. http://www.nuevasync.com/ You have to sign up for a free account, but it doesn't take long and they won't spam you or anything. Then go to "device setup instructions" and It will tell you how to set it up on your iphone. I've been using it for about 3 months now and it works great. (I don't work for them or anything, just love their service!)

I've considered using NuevaSync, but it looks like it will use my gmail contacts instead of address book? Is this true? I'd prefer to keep the address book.
Honestly, If I was able to edit calendars that I have synced with iCal from Google through CalDav(CalDev?) I'd be fine, (Right now iCal syncs with Google and my iPhone synce with iCal), but when I add an event on the iPhone, it doesn't allow me to edit any of the synced calendars. I can only edit a separate, unsynced calendar. Does anyone have any idea how to edit a synced calendar?

  • Can Icloud sync with google calendar and gmail?

We use google calendar at my office and share it with our staff. I thought we would be able to sync those calendars with icloud and google. Before icloud, I set up an exchange account on Ipad, iphone, imac and it works well for calendar and email.  I thought I could replace that sync with icloud, but it seems to not be designed that way. Should google calendar and gmail users stick with google?

    THANK YOU ithos!
I have searched and searched to try and find a way to sync my Google calendars with iCloud.
You don't exactly say how to make this happen, but you gave me enough nuggets to put it together.  Thank you for responding and helping me put it all together.
I have 5 Google calendars (Family, Work, Church, Extended Family Birthdays, US Holidays).  My wife, two different assistants and I all share and update the calendars.  I want all this to continue since it affects every aspect of my life.  I sit at a PC at work and need to be able to view all those calendars during the work week, I also need to be able to view and edit from work (pc), iPhone, wife's iPhone, assistants computers, and our home (mac).  So, staying Google - for now, is what I need.
I just upgraded to the 4S and Siri is one of the main reasons.  Without iCloud syncing with my calendars Siri is USELESS with calendaring stuff.  So, I have to have Siri able to view my calendars as well.
So, with that info, here's how I got it all to work.
For those of you who need a start to finish explanation, here it is:
    1. Computer running the OS Lion (mine's an iMac)
    2. Open iCal on the Mac
    3. Open your Google Calendar
    4. In iCal go to iCal --> Preferences --> Accounts.
Make sure iCloud is listed under Accounts.  This was my default, so I didn't have to make any changes.  If yours lists something different, sorry.  I don't know how to change it.  But I believe this is a KEY component as ithos above mentions that the subscription be 'located' on iCloud.
    5. In iCal go to Calendar --> Subscribe
This will force a pop up asking you for the URL of the calendar you are trying to subscribe to.
Where do you find this URL?    I found this article from 2006 that gives the low down:
    http://www.tuaw.com/2006/04/13/howto-subscribe-to-a-google-calendar-using-ical/
Don't worry, even though it's from 2006 it still works.  Here are the steps in a nutshell, but you should read the short article so you don't miss anything.
    6. In Google Calendar you need to dig into EACH calendar that you want to 'Subscribe to' and find the unique URL for that calendar.  This will allow you to then force iCal to look at and scrape the data from this calendar as often as every 5 minutes.  As you follow the articles steps (they are very easy) then your iCal calendar will populate with the Google calendar data from the calendar you subscribed to.  I had to do this for EACH calendar I wanted to show up on my iCal calendar.
    7.  I then grabbed my iPhone and asked Siri, "What does my day look like tomorrow?"  She responded with all my iCal / iCloud (which are all subscribed to my Google calendars) calendar data.  I smiled
This ONLY allows the Google info to be pushed to iCal / iCloud.  It doesn't allow the info to go the other way.
It won't let Siri manipulate the iCal/iCloud calendar or the Google calendar.  But at least Siri can see what's already there.  So, a step in the right direction.
    Good luck!

  • Is there a way to sync iCloud Calendar with Google Calendar and vice versa?

I have been using Google Calendar for awhile and really just like the design of Mac's calendar a lot more. I want to use the calendar feature on iCloud because I can access it online when I need to. However I use an Android so I don't think I can completely utilize the iCloud Calendar feature on my phone. Is there a way to get Google Calendar and iCloud Calendar to talk?

    Unfortunately not.

I am running Windows 8. Although my contacts and notes from my Ipod touch  show up on icloud my calendar entries do not show up even though they do show up in my Google calendar and my windows phone calendar. Any suggestions not already covered in trouble shooting articles?

As I mentioned earlier, you have to decide which calendar you want to use.  You can either use Google or iCloud, but not both.
If you want to use your iCloud calendar, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Calendar section) and set this to your iCloud calendar.  After doing so, all new events you add to your calendar will be added by default to your iCloud calendar, and as a result, will appear on icloud.com and your computer (if it is syncing calendars with your iCloud account).
If, on the other hand, you want to use your Google calendar (as it sounds like you are doing with your iPod), simply add the same Google calendar to your phone and your computer.

  • How do I sync my iPad with iCal on my Mac or when using a google calendar?

I can't seem to create a calendar on my iPad or my Mac (using google calendar and/or iCal) that will work together to show up in both places.  Any tips?

I used to use Google Calendars before I convertd to iCloud.  Using Google, you can setup a new Exchange Email account on your iPhone.   Under there, select calendars (you can also select contacts is you like, as well as email).  On the Mac, you can add the Google Account and select which calendars to sync in iCal.  This works fairly nicely, but if you enable iCloud, it will want to disable your Google sync.
As Alchroma suggests, you could also just setup yout iTunes to sync the calendars for you, but if you are like me and you don't sync your iPhone to your computer several times a day, the two get hopelessly out of sunc real fast...

  • Ical, iphone (mobileme), google calendars and sharing...

My first question is as follow: I use googlemail at work and have a work calendar. I would like to be able to see that in ical (at home) and on iphone through mobileme. Is this possible? How?
Similarly, I have a personal calendar which i keep on mobileme (and in ical). I would like to be able to see this in google calendars. Is this possible?
Second question is I would like my husband to be able to see my personal calendar (mobileme). He has ical but does not have a mobileme account.
And is it possible for him to see a googlecalendar of mine on ical?
Thanks very much for any help you can offer.

There is a brilliant little App called 'Spanning Sync' which does just that! It syncs your iCal to your Google calendar and it is very easy to set up and use. However, it only lets you sync with one Google account per licence. If you need to sync to more than one Google account, you need to buy more licences. I use it very successfully and would recommend it to you without reservation.

  • Google Calendar and Google Contacts

On a previous Android phone (T-Mobile's G2), there were two apps, Google Calendar and Google Contacts. When I first got the Incredble 2 in June, I thought I remembered seeing a Google Calendar app, but now it is no longer there.
I'm interested in the Google Calendar app because I'm wondering if my syncing issues (see earlier post) is related to this? (Verizon's Calendar app is not syncing phone created events to my Google calendar).
