Using Qosmio G40 as HD-DVD player via HDMI to TV - possible?

Is it possible to use G40 as HD-DVD player connecting it via HDMI interface to TV (Loewe Individual)?
Have tried, however starting HD-DVD player, error message stating, can't use the interface.

Yes, this is possible. I am using my G40 that way for several month now on my Pioneer plasma screen.
When I want to play a DVD I do the following:
1. Connect the laptop to the TV with a HDMI cable
2. Turn the laptop and the TV on
3. On your TV choose the right input-source
3. On the laptop change the audio output tot HDMI
4. If your TV doesn't have dolby-, dts- or wma-decoders on board, then turn dolby, dts and wma on the laptop off at the HDMI-settings (or else you will hear only a ticking sound)
5. On the laptop press Fn+F5. Best you choose the video-output to only the TV. You should now see your laptop-screen on the TV-screen
6. Start Windows Media Center on your laptop (I don't use the stand alone Toshiba HD DVD player because sometimes it gives me problems). You should hear the starting sound of Windows Media Center on your TV
7. Load the DVD in the your laptops DVD-drive
8. On Windows Media center choose play a DVD
9. Enjoy the movie on your TV screen
10. You can use your Windows Media Center Remote control to operate the DVD at the laptop. On my configuration I can also use the volume-controle of the Remote control to change the sound-level of the HDMI-oputput
Later on - if you are ready with looking at the movie - don't forget to change the audio-output from HDMI to speakers or you will hear no sound on your laptop.
Success!

  • Time capsule to tether a DVD player via Ethernet cable?

I've bought a new time capsule for my main wireless network. Can I use an old time capsule to connect to the network and then tether a DVD player via Ethernet cable?

Yes, but keep in mind that the "Ethernet" connection from the old Time Capsule to the DVD player will only be as good as the quality of the wireless connection between the two Time Capsules.....assuming you plan to connect the older TIme Capsule wirelessly to the network.
If you plan to connect the old Time Capsule to the new using a wired Ethernet connection, then things will be just fine.

  • Can my Qosmio G40 upscale standard DVDs

    Hello,
all I was just woundering if my qosmio G40-10s can upscale standard DVDs because my PS3 can and they look awsome,
I hope it does now that hd-dvd is over I have tried opening them with the hd-dvd player but it wont have any of it any help would be super
    thx

How do you mean upscale? On the external screen?
Usually this depends on the player you use, so if the standard player wont do then you can try e.g. the VLC player (www.videolan.org) or the "Media Player Classic" which is included in the "K-lite" codec pack (just google for "K-lite")
Otherwise I would appreciate to hear some feedback from you regarding that issue.

  • Qosmio G30-163: HD-DVD Player or InterVideo HD-DVD

    Hi Guys,
I am currently using the InterVideo HD DVD Player however I was told I can download and install the Toshiba HD DVD Player, is this any better than the InterVideo software? I heard it doesnt like to output via HDMI either?
    Cheers
    Matt

This question has been answered in my other thread.
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=28588&tstart=0
It would appear that both output to HDMI however the reason it didnt was because of the drives firmware.

  • Qosmio G40-108 Recovery DVD needed

Hi. I have a Qosmio G40-108. Unfortunately my recovery DVD was damaged and i am now in need of it to restore my machine. I ordered one from Toshiba 5 weeks ago and they still can't tell me when i am going to receive one.
If there is anybody who could kindly do me a copy of this i will be grateful. I will gladly pay for it.
    Regards
    martin

    Hi
This forum is not an exchange market!
I presume at the moment the G40 recovery CD is not available and the authorized service provider has ordered the Recovery CD from the Toshiba head warehouse.
This takes a little bit longer.
But if you want you can install the OS from the original Microsoft Windows CD and all necessary Toshiba drivers you will find on the Toshiba European driver page!!!
    Bye

  • Capturing dvd using DSR-11 and a DVD player

Hi.. It is probably pretty simple but I can't seem to work it. HELP ME PLEASE!
I am trying to capture a non-copyrighted dvd on FCP 5.1 (Powermac G5). I have the video output (both RCA and S-video) from the dvd player connected into the input on the Sony DSR-11. I have the input selector on the deck set to S-Video. When i play the dvd, it shows up on the NTSC monitor... but nothing shows up on the log and capture window preview. If click on capture now, it shows a black screen which says "trying to locate timecode" on the bottom.
I do not have a tape in the deck. I tried it with the S-video and Video seperately. No luck.
Thank you in advance. Hope I help some help from the wise.

    Hi:
You can use * MPEG Streamclip * to extract and re-encode the DVD footage. I don't think you'll get better quality capturing it through your deck.
    My 2 cents !
    Hope that helps !

  • Use screen saver while running DVD player?

This may seem like a silly question, but I like to watch the Simpsons while falling asleep.  The issue being that by the time the DVD has run it's course, I have fallen asleep only to wake up maybe several hours later and the screen saver isn't on.  So as not to burn out the screen, the drive, or the hard drive, is there a way to stop the DVD player from overriding the power saving settings?  Better put, can I get my mac to go to into sleep mode after a set period of time while the DVD player is running?
    Thanks for your help.

Don't mention it. You were the one who said the question might seem silly, and you were right. Actually, the question itself wasn't silly:
...can I get my mac to go to into sleep mode after a set period of time while the DVD player is running?
That was a reasonable question, and I answered it straight. My somewhat facetious response to the underlying situation reflected my perception that you want to have your machine runniing and sleeping at the same time, which is an impossibility on its face.

  • Very hard to use LR5 when connected to External TV via HDMI

    Hi
I was teaching some post processing today using LR5 connected to a 50" Sony TV via HDMI cable and could barely use LR. It took a few attempts to use the brush or gradient tools.
    Did anyone experience this?
    Thanks

  • Gx630 and problem with dvd playback via hdmi to plasma

I'm having problems playing a dvd from the gx630 while connected via HDMI to my plasma.  Without fail, the screen freezes up within 5 minutes of watching the movie.  I can watch a dvd on my laptop without a problem.  Any suggestions?

For what it's worth, I experienced the same thing recently with my GX630 while connected to a 42-inch Sharp Aquos. I tried a couple of different discs, but all of them froze just as you described and I had to reboot. I read somewhere that you have to "turn off" the laptop screen when doing this because of dvd copying restrictions, but I haven't looked into it any further.

  • Qosmio X870-F0086 - Highest supported resolution via HDMI?

    hi there

    http://www.toshibamea.com/ComputerProduct/4/Qosmio_X870-F0086/52569?pageid=4
I currently run an external monitor connected via HDMI with a resolution of 1920x1200
I would like to know if this Laptop supports higher resolutions via HDMI? 2560x1440 is what I require.
    Please can someone assist.

Good morning everyone (and Paulo ;) )
I have return to inform everyone that the specs stated on the Toshiba website are incorrect.
    Yes, I was right.
I knew I was right from the start, as it simply made no sense to stipulate that 2048x1536 was the max res for analogue, but then to also state that 1920x1080 was the max for HDMI.
I knew that was wrong, as I had a 1920x1200 monitor connected via HDMI.
The bottom line, is that I now have a 2560x1440 monitor connected via HDMI at 60Hz.
    *Works perfectly.*

My suggestion is that Toshiba update their website, to correctly reflect this scenario.
With the new generation monitors, more and more people will be asking these kinds of questions.
    Cheers! :)

  • Qosmio G40 with HD-DVD writer as compared to BlueRay

    This is my 1st post.
I just got my G40-127, and I am wondering. Didn't the internatiolnal community kick HD-DVD to the curb, and go for Blue-Ray?
Is thee any way to get a Blue-Ray wrighter to my machine or has I misunderstood this machines HD-DVD concept.
    Please set me straight. Any1.

Maybe you should take a look into this thread:

There is very interesting and useful posting created by Jeffrey.
Fact is that the CD/DVD drive in your G40 doesnt support only the HD DVD but also other formats. The HD-DVD capability is only a one part of this drive.
It is fully backward compatible and supports the DVD-RW SuperMulti (DL) standard too.
Furthermore there are more than 800 movie titles available for the HD DVD format which can be played in G40.
Anyway I didnt find any infos about availability of Blueray drives in other Toshiba notebooks. Who knows what will happen in the future

  • Using my MacBook as a DVD Player with the TV

How do I connect my MacBook to a television to watch a DVD movie? What kind of cord do I use? And how do I play the movie over the TV?

Depends on your TV. Check what ports your TV have. Normally, we have DVI, VGA and S-Video. Purchase the adaptor compatible with your TV. Here are (more or less) similar post:

  • Practicing using Final Cut Pro only on iBook via External Drive. Possible?

Before upgrading to a more powerful system I'd like to install FCS2 on an external drive and practice using only Final Cut Pro on my iBook (ok to laugh) My iBook specs: G4, 14", 1.42GHz, 1GB RAM, 10.4.9, 1024x768 display, 60GB. I do not plan on playing around with the other programs that are included in the suite. ie. Motion and Soundtrack pro etc. (They most likely would not work on my lil iBook.) I know in principle you are not supposed to put software on an external drive but I'm wondering if this temporary setup is even viable. I plan on using this set up for a couple months as I make my way through BASIC Final Cut Pro tutorials and to do a small practice run with a 5 minute miniDV project. I need time (about two months) to cobble money together before I upgrade to a more powerful system. Is this even possible? If so, what capacity/brand external drive should I be considering? I will also be using the external drive for media after I upgrade my system. Thanks to everyone. These posts are extremely helpful.

    hi there
you wont be able to install FCP to the external HDD as it wont let you, it has to be installed to the actual HDD in the machine as it uses the core system, core video, core animation, and core sound to work, you can install all the extra content on a ext HDD but not the actual application.
    hope this helps

  • How Do I Use my MacBook Pro to Watch a DVD From External DVD Player

    Hello Everyone!
While waiting for Apple TV to become available in my place of work, I want to use my MacBook Pro monitor for watching a DVD movie played on an external DVD player. The DVD player I have is an LPC-D1000, which is a new model. While Mac has its own DVD player, I'm trying to make use of my LG DVD player. If that's possible, please guide me on how to do it.
    Thank you.

You could use Elgato Systems' EyeTV product to view external video sources on your MBP.
There is additional cost involved, but it would achive what you want. You can buy the Hybrid product, and connect your external DVD player via Composite (red, white and yellow connectors) to your MBP via the EyeTV.
