Using QT Pro to strip .mov files

I've connected my eMac to my pc via ethernet, so that I can send uncompressed .mov files to my pc, which has a huge HDD and a dual-layer burner, and burn them to dual-layer Disk there.
I've been told that QT Pro can remove the "packaging" from a .mov file, leaving a pure dv video file, which can then be edited and/or burned to disk.
Before I send away for QT Pro, can anyone tell me how to do this? Is it 100% effective? Does it result in full dv- quality burns?
Thanks,
Kurt

Maybe "stripped" isn't the right word. KS pointed out that iMovie places video files in a "container" called .mov. Which is simply to say that they have the extension "mov".
What he means, I guess, is that QT Pro can Save .mov files as pure DV files.
If that's the case, then I don't need an answer to this question. I guess...

Yes it is. I have the HC1's bigger brother the prosumer HVR-A1U and I just received my universal final cut studio yesterday and just played a little, but yes it can. I have the 17" MBP and have both played high def. H.264 quicktime movies on it and have also imported some HDV content and that too plays fine. The only problem I have is that I went with the 7200 RPM drive so that I can edit on the go with just my laptop, but between the system software, and my document from my current machine, I was down to barely any space available. What I'm gonna do now is keep my old machine and the documents on that, and so I can keep the majority of my HDD open for video editing.

  • Streaming video using Frontpage 2003 and Quicktime .mov files

What is the proper way to stream video files. I created a .mov file using iLife and I use Frontpage 2003 to upload to my website.
I read in Microsft's official book on FrontPage2003 that all I had to do was to insert a movie file into a web page, just like inserting a picture. I was also told that I do not have to have the file on a streaming server, I could just keep it on the regular web site.
The file does download to the browser, but it does not start the video playing.
Do I need to do something elese? Or do I have to have the file on a streaming server.
    Thanks
    George

"Streaming" QT files requires Streaming Server software.
Your files probably just "download" via http protocols.
And, since the recent update to Internet Explorer for PC's, the page code syntax has changed from that used in your FrontPage files.
Your "page code" tells the plug-in what to do with your file. If you're directly linking to QT content then it is bypassing the plug-in and your entire file must download before playback can begin.
    Some links for you:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61011
Explains the structure needed for embedded files.
And now, the new news from Microsoft regarding Internet Explorer:
    http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html
You need to change the "tags" to include autoplay="true" (and a few extra tags for the new M$ update).

  • Quick Time 7 Pro not displaying .mov files

I just purchased Quick Time Pro to make movies that were transferred from my video camera in a .mov format.  Prior to purchasing and installing I had an older version of Quick Time and I was able to view the movies with no problem.  Now the screen is simply black but the audio is still playing.  I downloaded a file to a thumb drive to double check on my lap top with an older version of Quick TIme and was able to view with no problem.  What am I doing wrong with the new install?
    Thank for you help.

The files are in MPEG-4 format. And they do play perfectly in player. However the dimensions are wrong for my Ipod Nano 3rd gen. The edges are cut off. I am under the impression that if I export the file from QT7P i will be able to convert the file type to fit the screen of the Ipod nano.

  • Premiere Pro not accepting MOV files

I'm running Premiere Pro CC for the first time today since the most recent update and am finding that it won't let me import MOV files. When I try to drag them in PP tells me that file type is not supported. Does anyone know why this happened and how to fix it?

    Good point.
Running PP CC 7.1 (looks like there's an update for 7.2 but CC says I'm up to date)
    Running Windows 7
    Trying to load H.264 MOV
The error says that file type is not supported
This is the first time this has happened
Attached is a photo of what file types PP says I can import.

  • Can Final Cut, use XML to cut a movie file?

I am looking into how to cut a movie file with a XML file that has in and out points in seconds.
Is this possible to do if not, what program can?

FCP can read a properly formatted XML file and produce a sequence, but FCP is a non-destructive editor, so the original movie will simply be referenced, not actually altered by FCP's interpreting of the XML.
I must admit, with the dearth of information in your query, that response is a total shot in the dark. If you could elaborate, you might get a better answer.

  • Using adobe pro 9 to move photos out of jpeg into a word doc and keeping name of file as well

    Hi
I had an issue at work today and I wanted to move 300 jpeg photos into word.  The file became very large and I query whether adobe pro 9 can reduce size of the picture and also the size of the file before putting it into word.  I also wanted the name of the file to appear.
    Thanks
    marie

Sorry I may not have been clear.  With adobe pro 9 there is a function to combine files which is what I did.  I selected all the jpegs right hand click to convert to adobe (in windows).  This was sufficient for my purpose but I wanted the name of the file to also appear on each of the jpeg files.  I heard it is possible.

  • Use a preset, but encoded .mov file is different bit rate... why?

    Hi,
I have a few 2mins sequences from FCP5.1.4 exported to compressor and choose the preset web download .H264 800Kbps.
In the Inspector it shows the file info as:-
    File Extension: mov
    Estimated file size: 7.42 MB
    Audio Encoder
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    Video Encoder
    Format: QT
    Width: 480
    Height: 270
    Pixel aspect ratio: default
    Crop: None
    Frame rate: 23.976
    Frame Controls: Off
    Codec Type: H.264
    Multi-pass: On, frame reorder: On
    Pixel depth: 24
    Spatial quality: 50
    Min. Spatial quality: 50
    Key frame interval: 150
    Temporal quality: 50
    Min. temporal quality: 50
    Average data rate: 0.688 (Mbps)
    Fast Start: on
but when it finishes encoding, the data rate is far less than what it was suppose to be?
now the fun starts... this hasn't happened to every sequence, some are perfect.
I can shorten this particular sequence in FCP to say 10seconds and quickly try the preset in compressor and everything is good, I then go back into FCP and undo the shortening to give me back my full length clip and export to compressor using the exact same preset and I'll not get the data rate I want... it shows no error either.... it looks like everything worked as the preset says but checking the info it hasn't.
Sorry for the long winded explaination but it's driving me crazy, been sat here over 4 hours, keep redoing everything but no luck.
    Any help?
Could it be a bug in compressor I'm not aware of?
    C.

sorry, the above post has some text missing when I copied and pasted...
    it should read as follows:-
*I choose a preset and the inspector reads:*
    File Extension: mov
    Estimated file size: *7.42 MB*
    Audio Encoder
    AAC, Stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
    Video Encoder
    Format: QT
    Width: 480
    Height: 270
    Pixel aspect ratio: default
    Crop: None
    Frame rate: 23.976
    Frame Controls: Off
    Codec Type: H.264
    Multi-pass: On, frame reorder: On
    Pixel depth: 24
    Spatial quality: 50
    Min. Spatial quality: 50
    Key frame interval: 150
    Temporal quality: 50
    Min. temporal quality: 50
    Average data rate: 0.688 (Mbps)
    Fast Start: on
*But the file that is created reads as follows:-*
    Data Size: *2.13 MB*
    Data Rate: *198.31 kbits/sec*
    Duration: 00:01:30:54
    Normal Size: 480 x 270 pixels
Anyone know why it's coming out different?
    Thanks
    C.

  • Using QT7 pro to convert.mov to MP4 to post to Vimeo, but movie comes out out of sync

Just bought QT 7 Pro so i could convert a .mov I created in iMovie into a MP4 so i could post on Vimeo etc. Resulting video looks perfect but all a the music tracks and the audio portion of the video (which run perfectly as a .mov) are shifted about 5 seconds early.

Did you check that the easy setup is matching properly with the audio/video settings of your material (once converted)?
The audio file should be AIFF 16 bits, 48KHz if you chose one of the 48KHz easy setup. Have you tried exporting only the audio with those settings and see when applied to the timeline if rendering is still needed?

  • Will using Myriad Pro help keep filled files small?

I am a newbie as far as LiveCycle goes and have a problem with a form I created growing to 10 times the intial size because I used our company standard font Century Gothic throughout the document. If I change all the fields to Myriad Pro (the default), will I run into the same problem? I have some users with Acrobat Pro X, but more who would just be using the latest version of Reader to fill and save their forms. Any/all guidance welcomed.

Fonts should have nothing to do with file size.  But, try it and tell us if it still happens w/Myriad Pro.

  • Quick Time Pro and exporting movie files

With Quicktime Pro do you have to purchase Flip for Mac for people with Windows Media Players or Realtime players to be able to view it?
I've heard of something called AV files. Does Quicktime Pro export a file in some version that can be read by other players, or do I have to purchase some software?

People with Windows can get the free QT Player for windows and view your QT files that way. One version of Flip4mac will allow you to start with QT and output WMV files. Those would play in Windows Media Player. AVI files might or might not depending on the codec used inside the AVI container.
There is lots of QT media on the internet, and Windows users just download and install the QT player at no cost and then can watch downloaded or streaming QT media.

  • Cant use trash, make folders or move files

Everytime that I try to move a file to the trash, move a file to a new folder or create a new folder the finder asks me for my password. I proceed to type in my password and nothing happens. How do I fix this problem?

Try recreating the Trash file, because this is a problem related to permissions. Open Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities) and type:
    sudo rm -ri ~/.Trash

  • Using the command key wont move file

when i click and hold the command key and try to move any folder to another location, it copies file.
    what am i doing wrong?
    thanks

try  the different keys, command, option, control ?
To Move the file or folder from the source drive to the destination drive, click and hold down the mouse button on the file or folder.  The file or folder will be highlighted. Then, while holding the control button on your keyboard, drag the file or folder from the source drive window to the destination drive window and let go of the mouse button. The file or folder will disappear from the source drive and will now only be found on the destination drive.
