Using quicksizer

Dear All,
I have a problem using SAP tool quicksizer for server sizing. We want to do server sizing for FI module to be implemented. I just want clarification that when we have number of documents that are being transferred from FI to  CO-PA-FI, do we need to consider no of line items generated using T code KEU5 for Assessment and KE 28 for Top Down Allocation. Because in help it is being said that we should not consider them but I want clarification from a person who has done it practically.
Thanks

Hi Gautam,
Just start a Quicksizer and it will open a new window..there  select the option
"for beginner" where you will get a detailed understanding of QuickSizer tool.
Basically it is helpful when you are going to do a userbased or throughput sizing.
Please have a look at the documentation on service.sap.com/quicksizing ->
Quick Sizer tool -> Using the Quick Sizer -> Beginners ->
The buttons inside the project are shelf explanatory.
Let me know if anything is not clear.
Thank you,
Tilak

  • Quicksizer for ADS 7.02 and SLD 7.02

    Dear all,
We have installed a 2 systems, an ADS and SLD, both on a SAP NetWeaver 7.02 platform.
Now, we have to install both of them on QAS and PRD environement.
    Question :
Using QuickSizer tools on http://service.sap.com/quicksizer, I can see that there is no specific option to analyze
    ADS and SLD hardware requirement.
    Any suggestion is welcome

You are right. Then why you want to do sizing for ADS and SLD. Could you please explain the reason for doing sizing of ADS and SLD ? I would do sizing of portal system based on usage scenario like BI, ESS/MSS etc. not for ADS and SLD.
    Thanks

  • Hardware Sizing for EBP, MDM Catalog

    Hi,
This is for an SRM implementation project in extended classic scenario. The plan is to use all 3 components EBP, MDM Catalogs and SUS.
We are sizing hardware for a mid size company with around 10,000 employee base and USD 350 million of spend to be processed. With not more than 50.000 (X) Purchase orders annually, and therefor assumed Goods confirmation document and invoices to be 100.000 (2X).
We are using Quicksizer tool for sizing. Here are some of the areas which we need to validate-
    1. Is there a benchmark or a recommended or empirical percentage (%) of total employee strength that will be concurrent users.
    2. What can be the SAPS number range for EBP for a typical mid size company as described above. Any experience with respect to this would be helpful.
    3. Quicksizer doesnt suppoer MDM catalog sizing. Any inputs on the same would be useful.
    4. We are using EBP sizing template in quicksizer for SUS sizing with object data with respect to SUS. Is this the right approach.
Thanks for the assistance in advance.

  • BO 4.0 production deployment recommendations

    Hi All,
We would like to understand what would be the good approach to segregate the different services into different physical machine.
When we do the sizing using quicksizer, the output is in SAPS and Memory size for four different tiers.
    a) Web App Server
    b) Inteligence Tier
    c) Intelligence DB Tier
    d) Processing Tier
    Coming to the questions,
    1) The processing tier is expected to consume lots of memory so it is recommended to be put on it's own physical server.
    2) Combining the processing server with Intelligence tier - Will this impact the performance of the normal activities like navigating and scheduling in case of processing server getting overloaded?
    3) Merging Web App Server and Intelligence services - Will this have any impact in performance of the overall user experience?
    4) Do we need to have a separate server for the repository database? Can it not be co-hosted with the other Oracle production databases. What are the things that we need to consider to co-host the database?
    5) Usage of VM servers for all these tiers - Any issues in using virtual servers to host all these different services?
In short, we need to be able to bring down the number of servers without compromising the performance and usability. We are looking at deploying BO 4.0 on 100 concurrent user license with all the client tools such as Crystal, WebI, Analysis OLAP, Dashboard and Explorer.
    6) Am thinking of proposing one virtual server for (web apps + intelligence) and another for processing server. And recommend to co-host the database repository. The processing server to have 32 GB RAM on 8 or 16 core machine. The web + intelligence services to be hosted on a 8 core 16 GB RAM machine.
    7) The processing server - is it good to split them to two different physical server so that we can host different client related services on the different physical server?
I know that I am asking too many questions but I do not find deployment options and recommendations anywhere.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Mohanraj

Have you looked at the Business Intelligence Platform Planning Guide and Admin guide ?
They have information that will allow you to answer your questions.
This sort of questions fall under what SAP Services do and is almost impossible to answer without intimate knowledge of your requirements, business neeeds and resources available....
    In general :
    1) The processing tier is expected to consume lots of memory so it is recommended to be put on it's own physical server.
    Yes
    2) Combining the processing server with Intelligence tier - Will this impact the performance of the normal activities like navigating and scheduling in case of processing server getting overloaded?
It might, depends on resources available to it.
    3) Merging Web App Server and Intelligence services - Will this have any impact in performance of the overall user experience?
Usualy yes, again - depends on resources available, the bottleneck  will be in disk and network I/O
    4) Do we need to have a separate server for the repository database? Can it not be co-hosted with the other Oracle production databases. What are the things that we need to consider to co-host the database?
Recemended way is to have repository DB separare, iside your production Oracle DB's.
    5) Usage of VM servers for all these tiers - Any issues in using virtual servers to host all these different services?
Possible, if you fully understand limitations and benefits of VM environments.
    6) Am thinking of proposing one virtual server for (web apps + intelligence) and another for processing server. And recommend to co-host the database repository. The processing server to have 32 GB RAM on 8 or 16 core machine. The web + intelligence services to be hosted on a 8 core 16 GB RAM machine.
co-hosting repo DB is bad idea, the rest migth work.
better to have web tier, intelligence and processing separate...
    7) The processing server - is it good to split them to two different physical server so that we can host different client related services on the different physical server?
Yes, usualy it is a good idea...

  • SAP Landscape

Currently we are working on Entire SAP landscape using single SAN storage where database of DEV,QAS and production will be stored. Whether the SAN should be used for all databases or it should be for production database only?

This is something only the hardware vendor can tell you. "Usually" you do a sizing using Quicksizer (http://service.sap.com/quicksizer) and your chosen hardware vendor will suggest the best matching hardware for you (machines + SAN).
You can put all instances on one SAN technically, keep in mind that the performance of the production may be impacted if someone is doing things on the other two systems. However, there are SAN systems, that can do I/O class priorization, we don´t know if you SAN can do that. Check with your vendor.

  • BW-SEM hardware sizing question

Hi all, please help me with sizing process
Now I'm doing sizing of the big BW-SEM system.
I'm using quicksizer and document "Sizing ASAP FOR BW ACCELERATOR" (https://websmp102.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001951182003)
There is such phrase: "In a comparison of SAP BW benchmark results with SD benchmark results we have obtained a factor of 2.28" (page 11)
what type of SAPS I obtain from quicksizer - SD or BW?
So,  should I result from quicksizer tool multiple by 2,28?
Are there any official documents for this question?
    Thanks in advance,
    Best regards, Elena

    Hi;
Currently our current 11.5.10 Production is running on a Two node architecture on HP-Unix PA-RISC with the 128 GB of RAM on the Application Server and 256 GB RAM on the DB Node.
For R12 the servers will be on HP-Unix Itanium and the sizing has been factored as 128 GB for the Application server and the DB will be on RAC with 128 GB of RAM each on the DB Nodes.
I want to know is the sizing correct?
When sizing a RAC Env is it ok to just split the current configuration into two and size the same on two nodes?
Please share your experiences. We do not know how your machine has process which mean we do not know your activiy on your system. You can check some benchmark
    http://www.oracle.com/us/solutions/benchmark/apps-benchmark/ebs-standard-benchmark-overview-192676.html
Its also important how mch cpu you have.
Let me give you example from our system. We have 2 node apps server, 2 node rac and db size is almost 18T and our system is working nonstop. Our db has 30CPU and 120g RAm for each node. For apps cpu count and ram count are not like that.10 CPU and 20G ram.
We are happy wiht apps side, but we still working on better performance issue for our db side

  • Database Sizing Question for 11i

I am looking to see if there is a spreadsheet or tool that would tell me the optimal database size, for 11i.
I understand there was one for 11 that would tell you the best size after you told it the number of suppliers you have, the number of inventory items available, number of accounts, etc...
    Thanks
    Sanjay

    Stefan,
I guess both of us were writing at the same time and hence I missed your post edited part. Let me explain the user part. You can think about them in 3 different roles:
Named users - Number of users in the system which may or may not have "Guest" users. Not much useful for hardware sizing.
Logged On Users - Users currently logged on to the system not yet logged off and user logged on to the system but killed the browser. But they are still in the J2EE system holding memory with session info. They are useful for Memory sizing.
"Active Users" - They are doing sometime with some "think-time". They could be "high/medium/low" users based on the "think-time". They contribute to both CPU and Memory sizing.
Based on the above definitions (which may vary with different models) sizing will vary. Once you know your user profile (how many of them and how they use), you can use quicksizer to have some initial estimate. In case you have access to SAP fields and/or support, you can contact for some additional information. Those are useful for initial stage. If you have your system available, run some load tests to verify your initial estimate and refine them.
    Thanks,
    Swapan

  • BI-users,cubes,ODS...

    hello  guys
Iam sort of curious about BI PROJECT as I didnot work on BI yet.I just had training .thatsall.
Can anyone who are working on BI implementation/production environment please let me know
1.for how many users is your system built?
2.how many cubes,ODS,Multiproviders,Infosets are there in ur project?
3.how many process chains are built for your project?
4.whats the Size of your BI team?
    Thanks for your time,
    S

it is fully depends on your project.
The number of users are depends on the business of  your client. The size of your BI team depends of the tasks which are coming in.
The cubes, and other objects which has to be created based on the records and the areas where the client is working on.
The process chains are fully depends on the number of loads which are required for the business of your client.
you can size your BI server by using quicksizer tool, which is available in the service market place.
This would help you to understand the situation.

  • Build daily Big flat file using SAP R/3 material master data

    Hi all,
I must build an interface between SAP R/3 4.7 and an external application
Daily a flat file must be generated contaning Material data in full exchange mode
    (volume 100 000 materials, <10 fields => ~ File of 30Mo)
No complex mapping, only format mapping (Ex : Price quantity...)
I don't know yet if I will use Idocs or BAPI to extract data. However, I'm sure I must use multiple inbound messages because of volume
After reading documentation, I consider the both following solutions to manage it :
    1) A simple asynchronous interface with a file adapter in construction mode APPEND to build flat file progressively with arrival of SAP messages
    =>
    viable solution ?
Is there problem of concurrent access to file in such a solution  ?
(idocs or bapi data will be processed ones following the others )
    2) BPM Collecting and Bundling Messages - One Interface
(Unlimited Loop with Deadline trigger correspondint to time I must build flat file)
    =>
Each SAP message is a small message but the outbound XML will represent a 30 Mo flat file => Is it a problem ??
Which solution do you advise ?
    Is there another ?
Last question : (more general one)
In such scenario, I can't see XI-value added comparing a creation of flat file directly with R/3.
I will generate a big number of idocs, use a big part of XI memory ...
Can you give me your opinion about it ?
    Thanks a lot
    Best regards

    Hi Jean-Charles,
    >>>volume 100 000 materials, <10 fields => ~ File of 30Mo
    You have a performance task...
    >>>Is there problem of concurrent access to file in such a solution ?
No, the adapter framework has its own queueing, the message would be stored and executed later. If sequence is important, you can use EOIO as well.
    >>>BPM Collecting and Bundling Messages - One Interface
BPM is not required in your case, you should avoid becoz of performance task. You can append at file adapter, no problem. Bundling and splitting is even possible at Integration Server without BPM.
    >>>Each SAP message is a small message but the outbound XML will represent a 30 Mo flat file => Is it a problem ??
    Avoid using BAD words

  • Performance Impact When Using SNC Communication

    Hello,
Does anybody know if and how much performance impact there is if we use SNC for communication between the SAP Server and SAPGUI?
I think there are two areas that may be impacted; Network and server CPU.
For network load, I did find a part in "Front-End Network Requirements for SAP Business Solutions" document saying "overhead of roughly 350 bytes per user interaction step" but it does not specify the type of encryption.  I wonder if there is any other info on this?
For CPU impact, how much overhead should I consider for sapgui access?
I see no field for this in the quicksizer and I can't seem to find any white papers on this subject.
    Thank you in advance.

Let me know, if you need help finding it. My contact information is in my SDN business card.
Just so Kan is clear - It is not legal to use the SAP cryptolib provided by SAP for SNC between SAP GUI and SAP servers, so if x.509 is the desired mechanism you need to purchase additional software from the company which Peter works for to provide SAP GUI SNC-based SSO. I think instead, Kan might be using the free SAP supplied SNC Kerberos library, which is why I asked him to confirm this in my last post. I doubt he is interested to buy any third party software.
    > As to the performance discussion: first of all, yes, there will be a small performance impact if SNC is used (no matter which type or implementation), but from our experience with many actual SNC implementations, I can state that this is practically not relevant. It is not noticeable by users. There were never any performance discussions with customers. See also SAP Note 1043694.
I agree with this - the performance impact is not noticed by users, but the system managers who look after the servers where SAP is installed, and the team responsible for the network need to be aware of any differences (if any) when SNC is turned on and when SNC is turned off. I think this is why Kan is asking these questions, not because he is concerned about users noticing any difference when they logon to SAP.
    > Just a first quick comment on certain statements above: Tim's arguments for proving his overall statement are not conclusive from my perspective. Nor do I think his overall statement itself is correct.
The facts I mentioned are well known facts, e.g. symmetric crypto is far better from performance point of view than asymmetric. I know the examples I have shown which I found when doing a quick google search were not conclusive, but they were shown as initial examples, not necessarily the best examples. This is why I specifically mentioned that if you search in google yourself you will see many more references where comparisons are done between Kerberos (e.g. symmatric) compared with PKI (e.g. asymmetric).
    > First of all, he only selects one aspect of performance - CPU impact of encryption algorithms.
No, I didn't. Some of the examples I referred to also discuss other differences. I also mentioend other differences such as memory and what protection level is used when configuring SNC.
    > But for a true comparison, you'd have to look at all relevant aspects (latency, network overhead, ...).
Yes, I agree. No doubts here.
    >Network performance overhead is usuallly worse with Kerberos than with PKI.
This is not true. When SAP is using SNC, the GSS-API standard is used and so the only network communication involves SAP software sending a standard GSS token from the workstation to the SAP server, and this GSS token is often about the same size, regardless of which mechanism is used, so any network performance differences are not related to the mechanism, but more related to the complexity of the cryptography used on each end (mostly on the server side).
    >Second, you need to look at the specific usage scenario. For example, the first report referenced by Tim is an analysis about different Token Profile mechanism for WS Security, for one specific implementation. This does not allow to draw any conclusion for the SNC use case in general, and for sure not for a specific implemenation. It does not take the overhead for the encryption of the message content into account. Third, Tim associates PKI exclusively with asymmetric encryption. Yes, it is well known that asymmetric algorithms are slower than symmetric ones, but it is also well known that the encryption of the message content (by far the majority of the data) happens with symmetric encryption algorithms in the PKI scenario. With PKI-based SNC, you can even select a symmetric algorithm and use a more performant one that the ones that Kerberos prescribes.
Kerberos works with many different symmetric algorithms as well, so mentioning that the alg is selectable is not relavent to any comparison.
    > To summarize, I will try and collect facts that will support the opposite point of view. From our practical experience, the performance overhead is not relevant, and criteria like consistency with SAPcryptolib, strength of security, ease of administration, choice of authentication and encryption mechanism, etc. are much more important.

  • BI quicksizing for BPS

I'm new to BI. I've been requested to do a quicksizer for BPS golive.
In the "Throughput - User Groups Business Plan" it asks for the number of Concurrent Users, # of planning steps per user, # of records per planning step etc... Is there anywhere in particular that I can look inside my SAP System to locate that information: Config, tables, job logs?
I've read the documentation for quicksizing but it doesn't guide you into where to find that information within SAP.
    Regards,
    Peggy

    Hi,
    Here are my answers:
Q: Is there any difference in the way we handle variables in IP Vs BPS
My answer: Yes. In IP, variables that are used in queries are the same variables that are used in IP. In contrast, BPS has its own set of variables.
Q: Can we use same Function modules and same FOX for planning functions in BPS and IP and vice versa
My answer: Yes and no. This depends on the specific function module you are using. IP has different architecture than BPS.
Q: Can we have drill down capability in IP queries and if so what are the dis advantages
My answer: Yes, you can. Allowing usersto drill-down only means that you will allow users to input data in a lower level. You will need to make sure that the drill-down characteristic is consistent with your disaggregation strategy.
Q: How do we place breakpoints in planning modeler
My answer: It depends. What action do you want your break-point to act on to? You can place external break-points in your ABAP code (e.g. in planning functions) and processing will stop once it reaches that point. You can also put a session break-point and execute your planning sequence in RSPLS_EXECUTE.
Q: Can we use mulitprovider for input quereis in IP , if so what is the diff between using multi pros
My answer: Yes, if your multi-provider contains a planning cube.
    Hope this helps you,
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ravi.
