Using QuickTimePro to save m4v files as different files

Hey,
I recently downloaded some episodes of Lost through itunes. I found out I can view the m4v files in QuickTime, but cannot save them in QuickTime. If I had the Pro version of QuickTime could I save the itunes m4v files as avi files that I could then use to burn a cd/dvd to play on my tv?
Thanks for any help.
Tommy

Music and videos purchased from the iTunes Music Store are protected and can't be edited or exported. QT Pro can't help.

  • Applications Crash After Use Of Open/Save/Pick File or Folder Dialog

    Hi, all.
This has been a problem since I installed 10.6 (the day it was released).
The 10.6.1 helped somewhat, but this is still a real problem.
    I'll describe what happnes:
I'll be in a program (any program: MS Word, TextEdit, Safari, anything) and I'll use any of the following dialogs:
    -Open
    -Save Pick
    --a-file
    -Pick-a-folder
    or anything like that.
Then, never during the time I'm using the dialog, always soon (there's often a delay of a few seconds) afterward, I'll get a message saying that the program quit unexpectedly. It says that an error report has been sent, and gives me the option the reopen the program or ignore the quit. (Except MS Word; it has it's own error reporting system).
Now, this is a BAD program because it happens when I save something.
It is important for me to note that this doesn't happen all the time. Some programs seem more stable than others, and some file formats (the one I select) stabler than others. Also, it seems that (at least with Safari) I can do things to reduce the likelihood of this crash happening. Sometimes opening using Rosetta helps. Sometimes 64-Bit helps. Sometimes disabling the cache helps.
    It all seems pretty random.
Bottom line: this is REALLY annoying, especially when it occurs after use of the save dialog. Apple needs to fix this.
Is there a way for me to fix this myself?
Apple Hardware Test comes out clean. No problems with my startup disk, as far as I know.
It is nice to have QuickLook available in these dialogs, but if that's what's causing the problem, it'd be worth it to me to disable it. Any way to do that, just to try?
    Anyone have any other ideas?
    Thanks!
    -Nate

Thanks for the reply and info!
All right, so I found crash reports for each recent such crash.
Here's the most recent one, caused by either an open or a save (I can't remember which) dialog. I think I clicked Cancel on that dialog, but it crashed anyway. Here's the part of the log you mentioned (Sorry for the links in that, they aren't supposed to be there, and I sure didn't make them myself):
The .crash file can be found here.

  • Using iMovie to save project files to external hard drive?

I have a MacBook Pro with very limited space on the internal hard disk drive. I also have a few FireWire external hard drives.
A friend recently gave me his Hitachi DZ-HS300A mini-DVD camcorder so I could copy footage off of it, load it into my machine, edit it and upload it (several minutes) to YouTube. He can't do this because he lives in a remote area where there is no broadband yet.
I almost never use iMovie. I was wondering if there is a way to save the project file to an external FireWire drive so that there will be no large video files clogging up my laptop's internal hard drive. Can this be done? Is there an iMove preference I have to change?

You should generally leave the iMovie Project file on the boot drive. The Project File is mainly a small text file with in and out points.
The iMovie Event file is where the video assets are stored. You can store events to an external hard drive in two ways:
    1) As you import from the camera, you will see an import screen. You can select the external drive on the import screen
    2) If the event is already on your internal drive, you can click View/Events By Volume. Now you can drag and drop the event to the external drive in the Events SOurce List in iMovie.
For your external drive to be visible to iMovie, it must be formatted HFS+ or HFS+ (journalled).

  • 2.98GB .m4v File won't import into iMove 11?

I ripped a family movie off a DVD converted from a VHS tape, using Handbrake into an .m4v file and have tried twice now to import it into iMovie 11 without success.  Is there some kind of limit that would make this fail?  It starts building a .mov file in the iMove projects directory and I can see the file size increase until the very end (2 hours later) and then it gets deleted.  Ugly.  What am I doing wrong or are my expectations of iMovie too high?

So after waiting all this time, iMovie simply deleted the file the end without adding it to my event.  No error.  No joy and almost 13GB.

  • All .m4v files only import for 1 second (PRE 9/Windows 7)

    Hi,
I'm a new PRE 9 user and am experiencing a really significant problem with importing .m4v files: Every .m4v I select ends at the 1-second mark and there does not seem to be any way to make the program see past that 1-second mark in the source file. Other file formats I've tried seem just fine, but most of the source material I want to use is already in .m4v files and have to think that this is some kind of bug.
Does anyone know what's going on here--and, more importantly, how to fix the problem so I can access the entire content of the .m4v files I want to use in PRE 9?
Thanks a lot and take care,
    Alan

    Hi Hunt,
Thanks for the rapid reply (and the welcome too). I think most of the files came from Handbrake (importing DVD content) if memory serves. All these .m4v files play just fine in Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, etc.
I opened the properties for the last .m4v I tried to use (this morning) in PrE and the properties are listed as follows....

Assuming you have all one format and would like to just open all the files and save as a different format without changing anything...
One way, using Photoshop and actions and automation, would be to define an action that just does a File - Open then File - Save As to a different file.
To define an action, in the ACTIONS panel create a new set and a new action, then just record the steps on an existing file. Once done, hit the Stop button.
Once this very simple action has been defined, use File - Automate - Batch... to set up to run the action on a whole folder full of files.
You'll likely want to use the [ ] Override Action "Open" Commands and [ ] Override Action "Save As" Commands options.  The latter option allows you to do things like specify the JPEG save quality in the action, and not be prompted for it every time.
Your Batch dialog may look something like this:

  • How do I save multiple files from database using oracle forms?

Forms [32 Bit] Version 10.1.2.3.0 (Production)
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    Hello,
I have a form containing a block of records with files set up in a tabular layout. Each row has a checkbox to indicate if that row is selected. What I want to do is allow the user to save each file from checked rows to a directory of their choice on their machine when a button is pressed. Is it possible to do this in one command at the same time using WEBUTIL_FILE to save all the selected files to the same directory, or would I need to loop through each row and call the save dialog each time?
    Thanks.

I'm not sure I follow. The SAVE_DIALOG is building the path including the filename where the files will be saved. If I have 5 different files I want to save at the same time and only show the dialog once, I will only have a path for one of the files. How could I loop through the rest afterwards?

  • Batch processing: save processed file with same name to different location without moving the original

Hi, I would like to denoise Voice Over files with help of Auditions Batch Process. However, I have to save the files with the same name as the original, so that I can simply relink them in Premiere. Since I do want to keep the originals, I would like to save the processed files to a different location.
Unfortunately, Batch Processor adds " Copy" to the processed files and moves the originals along with the processed files to the new folder (causing Premiere to loose the original files).
Can I achieve my goal with Batch Processor, and how would I have to configure it?
    Kind regards,
    Andreas

Which version of Audition are you using? The latest ones allow you to specify where the batched files are saved and also if any Prefix or Postfix are added to the file name. These are all under Export Settings in the Batch Process pane. However you must have the Export box ticked to give you access to the settings.

    Thanks !!

If I right-click on a file and choose "Download Linked File As" it asks me where to save the file. Does that work for you?
However, If I right-click on a file and choose "Download Linked File" it uses the default location.
If a file is pushed to you, it will use the default location.

  • Export HDV as .m4v file using FCE 3.5?

This is embarrassing - I did it once, but don't remember how!
Converted a 6-minute, 4.5GB, 1080i, AIFF sequence, to a 6-minute, 68MB, 640x360, AAC Quicktime movie that looked pretty good on You-know-who Tube. It wasn't Hi Def any more, but it wasn't bad...
Is there a way to extract this information from the created file? It doesn't appear to be in "Get Info." If not, I would appreciate a little step-by-step algorithm, which I haven't been able to find in any book or manual index or on the "Search Forum" database...

Letterboxing could be the culprit, but I don't know how to find out if & when I blundered into it. It isn't in the Item Properties panel for my sequences or in the Show Info panels for my .m4v files, which appear to be identical except for the aspect ratio.
The footage for the project that wound up 640x360 was shot on a Sony HDR/HC7 using the Easy Handycam setting.
The footage for the project that wound up 640x480 was shot with a different Sony HDR/HC7 which I demo'ed on a couple of dives before I bought my own stuff. It was set up for me, I have no idea with what settings.
Both were captured using "Capture Now" for HDV 1080i. I still have the DVCs.
The 640x480 movie plays fullscreen on the YouTube player, the 640x360 one is letterboxed(!?) If looking at them would help, my YT username is "sharronsuss" and these are the only 2 videos there...
I have another 51 dives on tape, unedited, and I'd like to avoid screwing up the export format again, even if it's just on YouTube. Can't learn from unknown mistakes...
Thanks for your help, I know this isn't actually about editing.

How recently did you switch?  If it's less than 60 days, then Verizon simply reinstates your previous account.  The fact that you were on the EDGE plan and mailed the devices back, and they apparently are somewhere in the system, could cause complications, and it might just work out that you just go back on the same plan and they set you up with the same devices.  I'm not sure how it will go - but since you are still being billed for the devices...
