Using Raid and enabling use of second sound devic.K8N/SLI 7100 mobo.I'm lost

My specs are in my signature, question is should I configure my hd's in Raid, will I get a performance increase? and what is the actual process in doing so? I have a floppy that came with my mobo titled raid configurator something, Keep in mind these hd's are Ultra ATA/100 with 8mb cache and not sata or scsi, and I have two sound devices, the onbard sb live and a pci sb ls.....can i use ls for my mic?....how should I do it? I heard someone mention doi9ng the same thing before i just can't find the post....thank you

RAID is worht the speed.  Just configure it in the BIOS and instal Win like on a regular drive.  XP SP2 needs a 4K cluster size to instal IIRC.

  • Using two different sound devices for in and out

    Hi,
I want to do the following:
For speakers I have the Logitech Z-10 that have an internal usb sound device. Sadly it hasn't a connector for a mic.
Nevertheless I'd like to use a microphone for teamspeak or ventrilo.
My mainboard has an onboard sound chip that I used before I had the Logitechs.
So my question is, can I use the usb speakers and the onboard chip simultaniously - one for out and one for in?
I alread adjusted my modprobe.conf so that every device has its index number but I don't know how to proceed.
    Regards
    Barghest

You're right. In ventrilo I can chose different devices.
TS2 is not working att all. I can't neither hear nor use the mic. There's no option for selecting the device.
\edit: Ok, I installed TS via wine. Works like a charm. What a pitty that TS doesn't work under arch

well unfortunately i have a 20 pin power supply but i took the 20pin to 24pin device Doesn't it work correctly?
The 24 pin spec requires the -5v pin to have no connection. If you use a 20 to 24 pin adapter lead the -5v pins are not connected. You can try plugging the 20 pin plug into the 24 pin socket offset to one side. Many report having no problesm doing this. Alternatively you can try adding you own lead to the adapter to connect the -5v pins.

  • Using a second-hand device

I'm using my husband's old iPhone and the device is still set up on itunes for him (his apps, music, photos etc). How can I tell itunes to use my iTunes account for his device - my iPhone has been lost/stolen.

On your husbands's iPhone, turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account. Then, Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You can then restore it from your most recent iPhone backup & sync your stuff to it.

  • Use system default sound devices in Skype

    Hi,
Basically, I would like Skype to automatically select whatever device is set as default here in the Playback options:
so that I don't have to manually change it in the Skype options each time I switch from headphones to speaker and vice versa, which I do a lot.
And the "Automatically adjust speaker settings" option doesn't seem to help.
Is there a way to do that on the latest version on Winodows 8.1?
    Thanks in advance.

Microsoft removed the system default device from the options list.

  • Are there any bios conflicts with using a 7800GT/ NF4 SLi 7100 mobo?

Simple question, does anyone know of any problems with runing a 7800GT with a MSI NF4 SLi mobo/bios version-V.6.00PG-V9.0 031505(W7100NZ1)?, Thanks!

for anyone who reads this thread although my new 7800gt/co are non MSI, I wanted to list a stern warning to beware of what bios these cards are shipping with, I have never had so many problem swith a set of cards in my entire life, the vendors are playing russian roulette with the delta clock settings in the bios, effectively makeing the cards auto throttle  40mhz  when dettecting a high performance app running, which causes a lot of problem when you have already overclocked the card manually without taking this auto +40mhz into effect, I finally got some resolution with a revised bios release, but be on the look out for this fluffing scheme the are doing with this cards.

  • How to set Flash Player to use alternate sound device?

How is the Flash Player configured to use a different sound
output device? The default sound device goes to small speakers on
the computer. There is an alternate sound device that connects to a
high quality audio system via SPDIF. I don't want to set the
system-wide default audio to the output going to the audio system
because it is not turned on all the time. I have configured
specific media appications to play through the audio system, but I
want the "default sounds" from the computer to use the computer
    speakers.
I can't find the settings in the Flash Player to cause it to
use the alternate sound device. There is a settings dialog that
includes exactly the necessary settings for a microphone (allowing
a choice from any devices). Where is the setting for speakers?

I filed a bug report to be able to change the audio output device in flash player under Key: FP-6588.

  • Sound device problem in ZONE

I created a solaris zone for my desktop use, but the sound device was not avaialbe. I tried to export it from the global zone:
    device
    match: /dev/sound/*
then rebooted the zone, login it, found there were several files added in /dev:
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root           7 Sep 17 14:50 /dev/audio -> sound/0
    lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     root          10 Sep 17 14:50 /dev/audioctl -> sound/0ctl
    crw-------   1 root     root      34,  0 Sep 17 14:50 /dev/sound/0
crw-------   1 root     root      34,  1 Sep 17 14:50 /dev/sound/0ctlThe problem is: how to change the /dev/sound/* files for all users to read and write, permanently?
I tried the following methods but failed:
    1. Change manually these files' mode to a+rw as root. But once I logged out the zone or rebooted the zone, the changes were lost.
    2. Create a script in /etc/init.d/ and link it to /etc/rc3.d/ to let it auto execcute when boot, as below:
    #!/sbin/sh
    /usr/bin/chmod a+rw /dev/sound/*
    echo `date '+%D %H:%M:%S' > /var/tmp/enable.audio.log
ls -le /dev/sound/* >> /var/tmp/enable.audio.logthe content of /var/tmp/enable.audio.log is something like:
    crw-rw-rw-   1 root     root      34,  0  9月 17 14:50:30 2005 /dev/sound/0
crw-rw-rw-   1 root     root      34,  1  9月 17 14:50:30 2005 /dev/sound/0ctlBut oddly, the permissions of these files would always be changed back to the original state soon, automatically.
    3. I added an entry in /var/spool/cron/crontabs/root to change the permissions every 10 mins, and it did work, strangely. However I think it's not a good method, because I have to wait for 10 minutes before I can login it (if I login the zone before the permissions were changed, the sound device will never work)
    Thanks in advance.

It's probably /etc/logindevperm that's fighting you. Read the comments in that file, then you can modify /dev/sound in it.
The idea is that only the user logged in on the console would normally have access to the audio device and the frame buffer, so the permissions are reset at login.
If you're having folks login through a separate zone, this changes that assumption.

  • OS X 10.6 Sound Device Labels

I have one little annoying issue with sound devices on my Mac Mini. I have external amp and speakers hooked up to the audio out, and I have a Plantronics USB headset. When I go to select output devices, the audio out port is called "Headphones", while the USB Plantronics adapter is called "C-Media USB Audio Device"
This confuses my wife and kids when selecting what sound device to use. Can the devices be re-labeled in OSX, so the "Headphones" output device is called "External Speakers" and the USB device Just called "Headset"?

AFAIK the name of an audio device is hard-coded in the device itself, and so not alterable.

  • Allow user to select default sound device.

Currently Spotify defaults to using the default sound device under windows when launched, it would be neat if you could choose which sound device you want to use isntead in the options screen, Thanks

I really need this feature. I use multiple soundcards to split outputs into different sets. For example. I do not want Spotify to playback using my headphones but my speakers while I play a game or anything else for that matter. I also tend to Stream some of my games and don't want Spotify to be recorded- This is the whole reason I had to set up another soundcard by the way.
Please, just add this small but essencial feature like any other Audio related product.

  • K8n SLI Platinum+Serial ATA II support? and 16 or 8mb cache?

hello... i want to buy a new HD i have got: 'K8n SLI Platinum' mobo  can i buy a Serial ATA II? does my mobo support this? ive got normal SATA in there now.... and what should i take a 8mb or a 16mb cache ...16mb better right? ... probably sound realy stupid.. hehe
    but plz help thanks!!
p.s i was thinking of buying this one .... WD Caviar Special Edition 250 GB, 7200 Rpm, 16 MB, Serial ATA II/300....

Yes you board does support SATA II, though I doubt in real life if you would notice the difference in everyday operations. As for the Hard Drive the 16mb is the better one to go for as it gives you more onboard memory to use before you need to use the system memory. The WD is a good choice  , Would shy away from Maxtor (New versions) at the moment as they seem to be having some issues with the nvidia chipset.
Also although you can use any SATA cable, WD also make a version that is more of a secure fit to the Hard Drive itself, I use them myself and in my opinion they are well worth the small extra cost. Just remember not to use any tight turns on SATA cables as that can lead to problems with it transmitting the data.

  • Sound device selection

a feature i would like is for sound device selection. i have my pc connected to a usb headphone audio device and my surround amp through onboard soundcard. having to go into windows sound settings and change the default sound device through control panel is a slow task. thus changing all programs that do not handle sound device selection to operate on the windows default sound device and then needing to change it over and over. simply changing the sound device within firefox then starting the audio/video playback will initiate the new sound device.

Unfortunately as we forum-dwellers aren't Mozilla employees ( for the most part ) we can't do this for you. Try contacting Mozilla for feature requests.

  • Using the 'java.sound.*' libraries and classes

    Hello,
I am a complete noob to Java. So please forgive me if I seem a little stupid in the things I ask.
I would like to know which development kit I should download to be able to gain access to the 'java.sound.*' and midi libraries and classes.
I downloaded the Java SE 6 SDK but I could get access to these classes.
I use JCreator as my compiler and I kept getting an error along the lines of 'java.sound.* package does not exist'. I have tried compiling the code with NetBeans and also wiuth Eclipse and I still have no luck and I get the same message. I am guessing the compiler is not the problem and it is the SDK as I can access other classes such as javax.swing and java.awt etc.
If you could give me a link to the relevant SDK and maybe a good compiler, it would be greatly appreciated.
Also I am using Windows XP and Windows Vista so if you could provide me with support for either of these operating systems then that would be great.
    Thank You
    Lee
