Using raw files with Elements 9

Is there a raw converter for a Nikon D4, that will work with Adobe Photoshop Elements 9?

You have two alternatives:
(1) Upgrade to PSE 10. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.1
Mac download click here DNG Converter 7.1
You can convert a whole folder of NEF images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • "Use RAW files with external editor" greyed out for Photoshop CS2?

I've just upgraded from iPhoto 5, and the "Use RAW files with external editor" option in the advanced preferences is greyed out when I select Photoshop CS2 as my external editor (back in the General pane).
It works fine when Preview.app is selected. I can understand that pre-CS2 Photoshop wouldn't be available, but CS2 is capable of editing RAW images.
Has anyone been able to get iPhoto 6 to send a RAW image to Photoshop CS2 using this preference? I've written an Applescript to do it in iPhoto 5, but I'd rather use something cleaner...
    15" PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Works great with Photoshop Elements, opens with Camera Raw. The issue is you can't save it so that iPhoto gets the changes.
You have to save it and then re-import. I tried all permutations of saving it in originals and modified folders in the library. No luck. The only thing I didn't try is to save it as a jpeg over the top of the full sized one iPhoto created on import.

I have Photoshop Elements 9 and am trying to display and work with my RAW files that I've taken with my Canon Powershot S100 but it doesn't want to read the files... I've tried the lateset update from Adobe but that doesn't seem to work either... any ideas?

Use the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your RAW files to DNG, and open the DNG files in PSE9:

  • Processing raw files with Elements 8

I have Elements 8 for the processing the raw files from my Nikon D40.  There has been not issue with these files.  I just recently picked up a D7100.  Now with this camera when i download the raw files to the computer I am receiving a message that Elements does not reconize those raw files and will not open them.
Is there some different setting for the newer camera's?

Every camera has its own raw format and the raw converter must be updated to work with each new camera model. PSE 8 will not open those files--it's just too old to be able to be updated far enough.
    Your options are:
    1. Upgrade to PSE 12.
    2. Use the nikon software to convert the files and just use PSE for further editing for the converted files.
    3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter to make DNG files from your NEFs. PSE 8's raw converter can read those.

  • Raw Files with Elements 9

I can't open .CRT raw files from Canon SX50 even though raw plug in is installed with version 6.5.0.

The SX50 is quite a new model which PSE9 pre-dates. You have two alternatives:
    (1) Upgrade to PSE 11. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

  • Can't open Canon 70D raw files with elements 12

Can anyone advise me why elements 12 will not open my Canon 70D raw files?  When I have tried to update elements it tells me that there are no updates available. The Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw plugin is version 8.0.0.137

The Canon 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    EOS 70D
    CS2
    8.2
    5.2
Camera Raw 8.5 should be available for Elements 12 via Help > Updates
Photoshop elements 12 and camera raw 8.5
If you have windows XP, Vista or Mac OS X 10.6.8 you won't get the camera raw 8.5 update, because it doesn't work on those operating systems.
In that case you should be able to update to Camera Raw 8.3

I have photoshop 7 installed on Visa platform and I am unable to import RAW files from my Canon EOS 500D camera that are taken in a CR2 file extn. I have tried downloading the plugins but still no success. Any ideas suggestions or download links welcome

You can try this DNG converter. not sure if it will work. Otherwise it is old software trying to open a new RAW file on Vista. Your out of the upgrade sequence for CS4 too.

  • Is there a way to open Canon 5d mkii RAW files with Elements 7?

I keep getting error messages. I have looked at the updates but wonder if Elements 7 is too old?

Yes, much. You can try downloading the free Adobe  DNG converter and using that to make files that may work in your version of ACR, or you can use the canon software to convert the files, or you can upgrade to PSE 11.

  • How do i use raw files on photoshop elements 11

i cant work out how to use raw files on pse11

Select a raw thumbnail in Organizer and click the Editor button on the bottom toolbar or go to a folder on your hard drive and right-click on a raw file and choose open in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.
A raw file opens automatically in the camera raw dialog so you can use the sliders, e.g. white balance, contrast etc. Try pushing the highlights slider to the left and the shadows slider to the right to open up the tonal range of your raw image. You can also use those not available in the regular editor such as clarity and vibrance. Vibrance is a more subtle form of saturation. It’s good for boosting landscape images and pops the green and blue tones more than other colors.
In addition to the settings under the basic tab you have a detail tab (triangle symbol) and a calibration tab (camera symbol) where you can make further tweaks. The detail tab has tools for sharpening and noise reduction. The calibration tab has drop down presets for camera styles which you can experiment with but I always leave it set to Adobe Standard. For best results the Process should be 2012. Earlier process versions will give some different sliders in the basic tab such as fill light and recovery, but they are not as effective as the latest controls.
When you have finished your raw editing you can send the image into the regular editor. Ensure the dropdown menu for depth (at the bottom of the dialog) is set to 8 Bit/Channel as 16 bit editing in elements is very restricted. Then click the Open Image button (bottom right) and when your image opens in Expert Mode you can use the tools pallet to make any further adjustments you want. To create a jpeg use File >> Save As and choose jpeg from the file formats pull down list. There is nothing to save in a raw file. PSE remembers your slider settings next time you open the file.

  • Want to use fujifilm xt-1 raw files with cs5

I want to upgrade my raw converter for CS5 so I can use raw files from Fujifilm XT-1. When I try to download camera raw 6_4_1 it won't install. I'm using OS 10.8.5.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Nothing you're doing wrong. It's just a case of software incompatibility.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

    5.4
The XT-1 was first supported by Camera Raw 8.4 which is only compatible with CS6 or later

So there is no plug-in for CS5 which will open Raw X-T1 files.
Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?

  • When i open my Canon RAW-files with preview or transfer them to another program using preview they change to color despite the fact that they where all shot in B/W... How to change this?

When i open my Canon RAW-files with preview or transfer them to another program using preview they change to color despite the fact that they where all shot in B/W... How to change this?

    I shoot only RAW - no JPEG-files except those visualizing the files on my memorycard or computer. I think i have to refine my question;
    1. I know there is possible to make B/W HDR-images.
    2. I know the best HDR images are based on RAW-files.
    3. When i transfer the images in question to a HDR software they change, so when i view them in the software (either Preview or the HDR software) they are suddenly viewed (and processed) in color.
    4. This never happend on my PC so i know it has to do  with either Finder or Preview.
    5. Do i have to make all my B/W HDR-images on the PC or is it a way for me to change how Finder/Preview show/alter my images?

  • Can't open Canon Rebel T5i raw file in elements 10

I am trying to open a raw file (CR2) in my Elements 10 program, but I keep getting error messages that it's the "wrong type of file".
I've looked around & downloaded the plug-in that was supposed to fix that, but it still isn't working.
    What am I missing??
PS - I am also using Windows 7, the camera raw plug in version is 6.7.0.339, and my camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T5i
    *edited to add*
so I just followed this link:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5316&fileID=4946
because it looked like my camera raw plug in needed updating, but I got an installation error code: U44M2P7

my camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T5i
The Rebel T5i was first supported by Camera Raw 7.4 which is only compatible with Elements 11 and later
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
Unfortunately Elements 10 is only compatible with Camera Raw up to version 6.7. It's not compatible with Camera Raw 7.4 so it'll never be able to open T5i Raw files.
If you want to open T5i Raw files in Elements, you'll have to upgrade to Elements 12.
Alternatively, if you want to stick with Elements 10, you can download the free DNG converter from Adobe, convert all T5i Raw files to DNGs. Then open the DNGs in Elements 10.

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • Opening raw files in elements 10

I can't open raw files in elements 10 from my new compact canon G15 camera on my Mac OS X version 10.8.3. the message says it's unable to open this file type. Raw files do open ok from my  50D. Can anybody please help me? I purchased this version of elements 10 from apple online so have no disk to reload from.

Every camera model has its own raw format and the camera raw plugin has to be updated to work with new cameras as they appear. PSE 10 can't use any version of camera raw 7, the current version--it's too different to be compatible with it, so you would need to update PSE to be able to use 7.3. It doesn't have anything to do with mac or windows in this case. It's the same situation for either.
However, if you are considering updating you should know that there is a problem with the App Store version of PSE 11. It comes with 7.2 for some obscure reason, and the app store rules don't allow updating anywhere but from via the app store itself, which means adobe would have to submit an updated version of PSE every time there's an ACR update, something that so far they have not done, so if you do decide to update, don't buy from the App Store.

  • I cannot open raw files in elements 10

i cannot open raw files in elements 10

The 650D wasn’t supported until ACR 7.2 that was released the beginning of October 2012.
Adobe only updates ACR for their current version of Elements, which is PSE 11, not 10.
So you’ll either need to update to PSE11 or use the DNG Converter 7.2 to convert your CR2 files to DNGs and open them in the older version of ACR.

Another alternative would be to get Photoshop Lightroom which doesn’t cost a lot more than Elements and will give you more raw processing capabilities, and you’ll still be able to do Edit in Photoshop Elements for any pixel editing with your older version of Elements:
