Using Razor Tool decreases video's quality ?

Hi everyone,
I'm having this problem that I've been struggling with for 2 days now
I record a screen tutorial with BB Flashback Recorder, the output video from it is perfect (1920 x 1080), very clear!
When I put it in PPro CS5.5, the video becomes a little pixelated, but still acceptable. But just when I use the RAZOR TOOL, or a Video Transition on it, the resolution immediately becomes so bad that I can hardly read texts from the video!
I've also tried to record with other Frame size (1280x1080, 960x720...), set the Playback Resolution and Pause Resolution to Full, make the clip Square Pixel, Progressive Scan... but nothing works.
Please anyone have any idea about this problem ?

The footage format I use is .AVI, framerate 24 fps, and the sequence setting is DVCPROHD 1080p 24:
Editing mode: P2 1080i/1080p 60Hz DVCPROHD
Timebase: 23.976fps
Video Settings
Frame size: 1280h 1080v (1.5000)
Frame rate: 23.976 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: DVCPRO HD (1.5) Fields: No Fields (Progressive Scan)
I play the initial video with Window Media Player (by "clear" I mean it looks exactly like the screen without recording) , I also try to play with Media Player Classic, not as good, but still ok.
I've tried setting magnification to 100%, RAM previewing it, and rendering a short part... like you said, but it’s the same…

How to use razor tool to cut multiple grouped clips?

When I group (for example) a audio/video clip with an additional audio track and then take the razor tool to the group of clips, the razor only cuts the original audio/video clip (not the additional one). They appear to be grouped correctly because when I select one, it selects all 3 grouped clips, or if I move one, it moves all of them. Anyone got a lil help? Thanks.

Make sense because you have "razored" the group. eg Cut through the clips at a point.
Not sure why you have grouped them if you are in a synching . FWIW Grouped items only act as a single entity as far as moving them around together or Trimming.
Show us your Sequence ( screen grab) so we can se what you are doing.
Meantime...Ungroup the clips"
and Lock or un target the track you dont want to "cut through" with the Razor Tool.
or. make your Cut and Drag the end of the audio back out to where you want it to end.
or Select the clips you want to Cut ( Shift Click) and use a Trim tool instead of the RAzor.
or....

Premiere Pro CS6 - Keeping last frame when using Razor Tool - Help!

Hi Everyone,
A amateur editor here, I've had a bit of an issue after my cat decide to walk across my keyboard when Premiere was open!
Now every time I try and cut a clip with the razor tool it keeps the last frame and adds it on to the end. I imagine there's a shortcut to switch this off? But I have no idea what the shortcut is called...
There is now a beige strip after the selector, which wasn't there before! Does anyone know what my cat has managed to do and how I can turn it off?

The beige or yellow stripe has always been there.
You can only see it when zoomed in.
It represents the duration of 1 frame.
In this case you are on the last frame of the left clip.
Cannot turn it off.

Video quality deteriorates when using title tool or color.

hi there, I'm currently editing a HD project in FCE 4,0,1. All goes well, except when I use the title tool (lower thirds) or when I use color to adjust a certain shot. When using color, the movements begin to jitter. When using the title tool, the video in the background + the title itself becomes pixelated, meaning that the quality drops far below the original HD quality. The bad quality remains when exporting the movie. When I move the title just a tiny bit, the quality goes back to regular HD, but when I render it, it goes back to inferior video. Any ideas, suggestions, insights, ... ? Thank you

IChat uses better Video Compression than Skype does.
On a top flight Mac you can send a 640 X 480 pixel frame up to 30 frames a sec.
Skype can't match this.
iChat in Video is Peer to Peer. (you can actually Log out of the Buddy list)
Skype seems to borrow something from everyone's bandwidth to make connections.
What do you mean by Business account Tracking ?
iChat Adds (or can add) the First Name, Last Name of your Buddies and create an Address Book Entry
Whether you mark those cards connected with a company is up to you.
(I have heard of issues with earlier version of iChat and the Address Book that "saw" the Company Name as the part of the Name and linking several Screen Names to the one name
Audio on a Mac using Skype tend to be the same as the streaming needs are less.
However you have to rely on any PCs audio abilities from PCs which may not be to the same standard.
Mac to PCs in iChat and AIM can be difficult though. (It should work but it rarely as simple as Plug and go)
Skype may suit your needs better on ocassions.

Horrible Lag when using certain Tools - Have great video card

I hope you guys can help me.
Whenever I use any of the Blur tools or the Brush tools i have *incredible* video lag. It's to the point I don't even have enough control to get the job done. Everything else works flawlessly.
I have a ATI Radeon HD 5870 with 2 gigs of RAM. I'm assuming that card is more than enough..
This is with version 9 if that helps.

What Julianne said at first about re-linking made perfect sense and I followed it easily, had actually already been there. But in my situation now, it didn't have any effect. The directory of folders which had already been added were still just as they were, and the outstanding balance are not in the desired position. And the folders which had been brought in earlier today when I clicked "synchronize folder", were still missing all the metadata.
Maybe this means I need to start over, and I'm fine about doing that that, but I don't know what it takes to accomplish that. I'm concerned now that any changes I make out of guesswork could only make the problem harder to resolve. It just feels to me like something I did at the beginning just wasn't right, and now it's a tangle.
Can you advise?

Satellite L300 - big decrease in graphics quality using Win 7 64bit

I have done this clean install (from Vista 32-bit to Win 7 64-bit) for someone and loaded (I think) all the relevant drivers.
There seems to be a big decrease in graphics quality.
Is this something to do with Vista vs. Windows 7 or does it make any difference which of the three display drivers are installed?
Unfortunately, the laptop isn't with me now so I will have to look into this remotely as well.

What format should I use to archive camcorder videos.

I've seen many different variations of my question on the forums, but nothing answering all my questions. So, here goes.
I have a minidv camcorder and I've been ripping the video to dv files using imovie hd 6. I then put together the clips that should be together and tell imovie to convert those clips into one. My question is the format. I have been using dv, but for an hour minidv tape, it's over 10 gig. I then copy these dv files to my external drive and back them up with mozy.
My question is what format "should" I be archiving them to? I plan on keeping them forever of course. And there might be a day that I go to mess with them, maybe add some effects. I'm no video editor, but I'm finding that the mac has such awesome (and easy for a beginner) tools that I actually want to mess with video.
There are so many formats, but I don't want to lose quality to save hd space. If I were to convert them to mov or mpeg4, would the quality be as good. What about size, would the size be much different?
Sorry for the large post. I'm a little lost when it comes to this stuff, but I'm trying to learn.

Images still there after cutting (razor tool)

I've used the razor tool to cut out some frames from a single video track. This creates two tracks, which I've pushed together. I then applied the video transition affect cross dissolve. I noticed that only in the dissolve, the cut frames were bleeding through some how. After removing the dissolve and expanding one of the two video tracks, I can see the cut frames are still there. The razor tool didn't do anything different than if I had just manually compressed the track (grabbed edge and slid back). I can't find any info in the help about this behavior.
What am I doing wrong that these frames are still present?

Great news!
Once one has fought Handles for the first time, it will become second nature.
One thing that also throws people is when they have used the Razor to "cut" the Video. In the days of film, if one used the splicing block, the Frames were physically cut off. With an non-destructive NLE, like PrPro, those Frames are NOT cut off. They are still there in the source video in the Project Panel, and what one has on the Timeline is but a set of instructions. Add the Transition and the instructions are rewritten to read "OK, he needs more of those Frames for his Transition - go get 'em."
Now something else, very similar, that can be a tripping point is when one Trims Clips, Exports those as an AV file and Imports then into another Project/Sequence. All Handles are now gone, unlike having used the Razor. They are no longer there. This is something to consider, if one is Exporting for later Import, or if they are using the Project Manager, and choosing to Trim Clips. If any later editing will be done, involving Transitions, then use the option to Include Handles.

Using blade tool in timeline seems to be altering stabilization??

I have a clip that I'm using that is stabilized and retimes and I want some effects to blend into eachother. For example, it is a small feature about my grandfather and it's a long clip of him sitting in a rocking chair. I want the effects to start in sepia with a aged film look then blend into a 50's TV style then blend to normal. There is audio of him talking about some memories in background. I retimed to slow it down with optical quality and I stablilized it. I figured I would use blade tool at the points I would want the look to change, but when I cut the clip with the blade, the video seems to zoom out a bit in the first frame of the next created clip, and then the style's don't blend because the video jumps. Is it messing up the stabilization? Any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

Yes, it is.
Don't cut the clip. Use keyframing to animate the effect values. usually there is an amount value that can be animated to change the effect.

TV Anywhere poor video capture quality

I have a Celeron 1.7, 20 and 60 gig hd at 7200 rpm, 512M of ram. My capture is of very poor quality. I have used the MSI software and also Virtual Dub. Still poor video capture quality. Anyone tell me what I can do or how to do this right?

If you use a compressing codec in real time, you need lotsa CPU.
Try using a lossless codec such as Huffyuv (you'll need lotsa disk) for the real time capture and then compress afterwards.

How to Setup FCP 6 to use Canon 60 D video

Trying to edit video from my Canon 60d on Final cut Pro 6. Need to know video setting to edit with. Video is very choppy.

960x720 is standard DVCPRO HD - pixel aspect ratio is 1.333.
The issue here is the PPC Mac can't use the Log and Transfer plugin. MPEG Streamclip can get the job done.
• Open it up and select List -> Batch List
• Add all files you're going to edit
• Pick "Export to Quicktime" but leave the boxes unchecked
• Set your destination - this needs to be different than your source folder
• Use these settings:
   - Compression - Apple ProRes422
   - Quality 100%
   - Sound Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz
   - Frame size: whichever option is unscaled
   - Frame Rate: leave it blank; it will automatically select the rate of your video (59.94 for 60p, 29.97 for 30p and 23.976 for 24p)
   - Deselect the "deselect for progressive movies" boxes, interlaced scaling, reinterlace chroma, and deinterlace video
   - Field Dominance: doesn't matter as there won't be any dominance
• Hit To Batch
• Hit Go
• Make coffee.
• Return to computer.
If you don't have a lot of editing done already:
• Import the new clips into a new Final Cut project
• Drag a clip onto the timeline - when it asks you about changing settings hit YES.
If you have a lot of editing done:
• Move your original files so they go offline in Final Cut
• Open your project in Final Cut - it will tell you your files are offline
• Reconnect using the new clips Streamclip made
• Make sure your Sequence settings match the settings you plugged into Streamclip. You can change everything after the fact except for the Editing Timebase. If your editing timebase is wrong you'll have to restart. The Pixel Aspect Ratio should be square and Anamorphic 16x9 should NOT be checked, and Field Dominance should be None.

Hello. I got a problem with InDesign CC redrawing the screen too slow while using Zoom tool. Sometimes it takes more than a secong to zoom in or out. However InDesign CS6, Photoshop CC, Illustrator CC works just fine. What could be the problem, videocard or something else? Below is my PC configuration: OS Windows 8 Pro (x64); processor Intel Core i7 2600k CPU 3,40GHz; video adapter NVIDIA GeForse GTS 450; monitor NEC PA271W (2560x1440).

Yes it’s a bug. The trick is to select the tool and then left click the photo information strip and hold for a few seconds until you see the windows bar at the top of the screen (not responding)
The lasso tool should then work normally.
