Using "Rebuild" changes some messages from READ to UNREAD?

I'm trying to get my Mail storage in order and read that using Mailbox>Rebuild would be a good step to fix any indexing problems. All goes swimmingly, or so it seems. Save for not being able to rebuild multiple folders at once, that is!
In any event, on each folder I rebuild several messages switch from READ status to UNREAD. This happens on both POP and IMAP accounts.
So I go through and actually read them in one mailbox. And in another I select all and use Mark>As Read on them.
Looks good, so I try a rebuild again. And the same messages show up as UNREAD again.
Right, next try is to get them marked as READ, as above, and quit Mail, then reopen it. The messages still appear as read, so I try REBUILD again. And... the same messages flip back to being UNREAD.
Anyone know what's going on? And perhaps how to fix it?

Sounds like there is a problem with the Envelope Index file which stores an index of all mailboxes and messages for Tiger Mail.
Quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on your Desktop or on a backup drive for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Envelope Index. Delete the Envelope Index file and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and you will be prompted to import mailboxes. Select OK and allow this process to complete. This isn't really importing anything but is replacing the deleted Envelope Index file and reindexing all mailboxes and messages.
Test if this resolves the problem. After confirming all mailboxes and messages are available, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder created for backup purposes.

I can't change my messages from green to blue when I am sending

I can't change my messages from green to blue when I am sending a message to an iPhone. SMS has been turned off.

Check to see if iMessage is activated. Also, make sure the other party has iMessage activated. Sending an iMessage requires both parties, the sender and the receiver to have an active internet connection. If iMessage is active, the check your Send & Receive and make sure your phone number is checked. After that, you may need to delete the conversation that you have with that contact, however I've not experienced that when I have an individual send problem with a contact. It will usually pick up that they are connected to data again.

When trying to save a file under Excel 2008, ver 12.3.3, with extension .xlsx or .xlx, I am told it can't be saved because it is "read only." How do I change the file from read only?

Save the file as a new name. Close and Open the new file.
Most likely when a file transfer happens, Office makes the file 'Read Only'.
If you have two opened files with the same name, the last opened file will be 'Read Only'.

How to change a message from type information to error?

We are using a BDC to change the request delivery date of sales order lines. But we may meet the situation that for a selected line, because some inventory movements are doing, the ATP checking can not be fulfilled. But because system only hints an information type message, we can catch this problem in customized BDC program. The message system raised is "No availability check can be carried out for material NTN095UF Message no. V1082".
To improve this situation, I wonder if we can change the message type of this message to an error. Or anything else can we do? Please suggest on it. Thanks.

if you want to change the mesage type from information to an error go to OVAH , and change the category of your message to error(E). (category is the last tab with option no message/warning/error)

Change Status/Message from BE to SRM

Hello,
I have the following situation: A SC is transfered to the BE. For some special products an additional item (limit item) is added in the BE to the PO. This results in the following situation:
SRM        BE
1SC         1PO
- P1          - P1
                - P2 (limit item, cat=B)
Currently the status 'Fehler im Ablauf' is set obviously of this additional line item in BE.
My question: Is it possible to change the messages/status (CLEAN_REQREQ_UP, BBP_GET_STATUS_2) which is set while a SC is transfered from SRM to BE in this special situation? Is there a BADI in place which can be used?

in SRM7.0 this seems to be a standard behaviour although you can add items to the follow-on document via BADI.

You cannot, from within the native software.

Some message cannot be flagged unread

Hi,
I am developing a web-interface for our mailserver, and I can't mark some messages as unread.
No exception is thrown, but it simply doesn't do what I want it to do.
I used an iptrace to see what's wrong, and I see that my interface sends a request, gets an "COMPLETED" response, but when listing the folder, the flag is still set. (the \SEEN flag)
Any comments?

No, its an IMAP server and it is standing in a 10 meter distance from me, in our kitchen. I'm not behind any firewall (of course I am, but no firewall is between me and the GW). I don't even know if a pop3 server is active (we use cyrus with SSL, but also without SSL).
The important thing is:
I think I explained it, but I don't see my post now so I say it again: Some messages are flagged correctly, some are not.
E.G.:
We receive cron mails (for windows people: cron-jobs are jobs that run at a particular time, e.g. every night or every week, ...) from amavis and, and I don't konw why, THOSE mails can't be flagged.
Also mails that are put into the mailbox by fetchmail (a program that receives mail from an external mail server) can't be flagged. We use fetchmail ONLY to get mails sent to our old E-Mail address, wich is not in our domain.
So I can summarize, but I'm not sure if this is the crucial point, All mail sent NOT to the original E-Mail address can't be changed, but can be deleted.
If someone wonders how mail gets into our mailbox when it's not for the original address, I mean the two possible ways:
1. aliases - a file that describes a mapping of users to mailbox (e.g. map "webmaster@..." to "root@...").
2. fetchmail - a program I described before.
Also it can't be a pop3 server because pop3 only retreives mails and doesn't support changing mails.
We use IMAP to be able to get mails from all over the world and have a centralized mailbox. On our old ISP we had a mailbox somewhere in vienna and it didn't belong to us and - the important thing - it didn't support IMAP. So If we had received a mail from home and then went to italy we didn't have a copy of the mail there - except when we left a copy on the server (an option that most E-Mail-Clients provide), but then the mailbox got full soon.
So please help!

I'm able to see some messaging from my daughter's phone on my iPad, but not all.

I've noticed since the new 7.0.2 upgrade that I've been receiving some of my daughter's messages to her iPhone 4S. I do happen to know that it's not all of them. Is there a way to see all and also block her from knowing this? I would also like to block her from turning off her location finder so I know where she is. Thanks for helping this parent.

You are seeing her messages because you are both using the same Apple ID for iMessage. You have no further control in terms of insuring that you receive all of her messages. Also, she will probably know something is wrong because she will be able to see your messages on her phone as well.
If you wanted to ensure that Find My iPhone remains on, you would have to go to Settings>General>Restrictions on her phone, enter a restrictions passcode, then set Accounts (near the bottom) to Don't Allow Changes. This would prevent her from changing settings related to accounts such as iCloud on her phone without knowing the passcode. She will know you did this as the iCloud settings turn light gray and cannot be opened until the restriction is turned off again. Also, if you do this be sure to write the passcode down because if it is ever lost or forgotten you will have to restore the phone as new, without using a backup, in order to remove it (resulting in losing all her data).

How do I change a calendar from read-only so that I can add/edit an event?

From what I can figure out, iCal thinks that I have published my calendar. However, when I click on "Calendar", "Publish" is the only option. I have been able to add/edit in the past. I am not sure what I did to change it so that I am unable to add/edit.

2. A published calendar will have a "Broadcast" symbol to the right side of the calendar name. Is that symbol present in your Calendars Pane of the iCal window?
3. How many calendars do you have?

Change some mail from one computer to anothe

I hope that some one can help this old man (81) I am trying to send some mail (inbox) from my G4 QuickSilver 2002 (OS X 4..1 to my lap top G4 PowerBook 17" OS X 4.1.1 and still keep what mail I have on the PowerBook, than send what I am missing from the PowerBook to the QuickSilver 2002.
I have gone into the ~/Library/mail on both computers but am unable to find any that mach up with what I have on either computers, have also looked in Root/library/mail and no luck there.
The reason I need this is that I will be bedridden soon and I have a hook up from the QuickSilver to my PowerBook
I hope that I haven't confuse any one wirh the above information.

Make a copy of this folder on each computer, then transfer to the other one...
~/Library/Mail
Ten in Mail>File>Import>from Mail for OSX, click continue, then select that whole Mail copy folder, click choose, give it a bit and it should show you all your Mailboxes to choose which you want to import.

After FF update, can't tell what messages are read or unread.

When I opened my browser last night, Firefox installed an update. Immediately thereafter I went to my yahoo mail account and noticed that all my message looked bolded, like they were unread. I clicked on one to mark it as "read" and it looked no different. My gmail account has the same problem. I checked in Safari and everything looks fine. I will have to switch back to Safari I guess if this isn't fixed. It's very annoying because I get a lot of messages every day and want to know at a glance what is new.

Mail not displaying messages from self as Unread

Mails that I send to myself have suddenly stopped showing up as automatically unread in the inbox. Neither does the dock icon for Mail show the red circle indicating a new mail. Similarly with Ical mails alerts to me. Any clue which setting has got messed up?

Once upon a time, with POP access at least, addressing a Gmail message to self would not be presented for download, and only available on the server view via browser. I can't remember when or if I tested IMAP access.
Just now I sent a test, and on my two Macs it is presented as Read on both.
Gmail is neither pure IMAP nor pure POP, and it can be weird.

Upgraded to IOS 8. iMessage has changed for the worse, losing messages now. How can I force iMessage to use SMS for some contacts?

SMS works well and is generally free for most plans here. I'd like to be able to send messages via SMS from my iPhone for many of these contacts because something changed in IOS 8 iMessage and now iMessages seem to get lost. Plus as before they can end up in multiple threads. This latter issue seems to be worse as well with iOS8 but not sure why.
For example one friend set up an iPad with her apple ID and subsequently gave it to her son. She also has an iPhone. I've been exchanging iMessage/SMS's with her which worked fine until the upgrade. Then she stopped getting my messages on her iPhone. Turns out that they were landing on the iPad. While it may be that she doesn't have things sorted correctly on her iPhone that doesn't change the fact that prior to iOS8 she could get my messages. So I'd like to designate her and a number of other contacts as SMS only.
Additionally I am seeing more multiple threads from the same contacts. Not sure why but it seems to have something to do with iOS 8 sucking in additional email addresses, e.g. @icloud.com and subsequently using these in some messages even though the contact is the same person. I've tried adding the new email address into the contact card I have on file for that person and this simply resulted in two threads with the same contact name.
Really what is up with this and why does Messages need to keep track of all this info? The only requirement to direct a message between to iDevices should be valid Apple ID's on both with a means to reference this (Phone Number, Apple ID Email Address) in the respective contact. In the absence of this the message should be sent as SMS.

I have the same problem on iOS 7.0.3. With one particular friend I receive iMessages from her just fine and I can send her iMessages from Mac OS X and Messages on iPad, but Messages on my iPhone keep sending her my messages as Text messages. I send iMessages just fine from the same iPhone. SFChuch, what ios version is your recipient using? Did they sign up on iCloud? I wonder if the problem happens with recipients who are not properly registered on iCloud or some special case like that.

"Command-i" which was so useful in being able to selectively delete messages from the servers no longer works. Is their a replacement? Will it be fixed? Or should I change my mail application?

in Mac Mail command -i used to bring up the Account info pane on the server (10.8.5)
