Using reference monitor with master clip

I love the ability to color correct the master source rather than each timeline clip! I love it so much that I want to color correct my master clips independently of the editing process but the problem is that I cannot get the reference monitor to display a scope that is synchronized to the master source clip.
In working around this the old way, edit-first, I still find often that other parts of the master clip (not chosen for a sequence) are much better for color correction (like a good face or a color calibration card.) Thus I assume there is a way to do this that I do not understand? (Or, alternately, am I thinking about it wrong?)
Thank you!

I have identical real time TC for all 3 cameras, and two cams are continually recording. the third is roaming.
Here's a link to a past project: News & Events :: PCC's Christmas Lights Spectacular :: Pensacola Christian College
As you can see, one is locked, one is on a tripod getting closeups, zooms, and pans, and the third is moving around getting various angles. The two on a tripos are left continually recording, but the roamer starts and stops (it's handheld, so it's easier to just start/stop).
@shooternz, could you elaborate on your method a bit? You seem to indicate that you can just drop the third camera's clips in the sequence based on Time Code. I'm not familiar with TC Panels or TC Markers.
As for not all of them being used... I do have several dozen clips left over the course of a half-hour concert... :/

Yes, but we need to know exactly which year model you have? So that we can advise you on exactly which adapter you need for you iMac.

Plus, adding that Computer Monitors make better displays than TVs and comparatively cost a little less than TVs.

I am looking to buy a Mac mini, but I already have a monitor with a dvi plug in. Will I be able to use this monitor with the Mac mini??

    Here are the Mini's specs:

  • Sync multiple clips with master clip

I have a multicam shoot with two stationery cameras continually recording for the entire event and a third camera roaming around, getting dozens of individual clips from different locations/angles. ALL THREE CAMERA HAVE SYNCED TIME CODE.
I don't want to treat this as a normal multicam project, since the third camera has dozens of clips (this means dozens of "camera angles" in a multicam timeline). The best way for me to edit these cameras together in post, in my view, is to sync everything up in a timeline, and do the cutting myself.
In Premiere Pro CC 7.2.2 (33), I can sync the continual recordings no problem, because they overlap. But the dozens of clips created from the third camera have to be placed manually or timecode synced one by one.
I have found a kind of a cheat. I create a multicam sequence using all 90 of my clips (synced by timecode) then open the multicam sequence in the timeline. I then manually drag all 88 clips from the third camera down into one layer.
From here, I have two options: 1, edit as a multicam shoot with only three cameras instead of 90, or 2, Create a new, empty sequence, then copy/paste from the multicam sequence to the empty one and edit manually.
Here's my question, now that I've found a cheat: how can I better sync multiple clips with no overlapping timecode to a master clip with master timecode?

  • Using ADC Monitor with the new Mac Mini

My husband has an Apple monitor with an ADC connection. I would like to purchase the new Mac Mini, but would like to use his current monitor. I know there is an ADC to DVI adapter, but the new Mac Mini uses the Mini Display...could I use yet another adapter? I am trying to save money, but don't want to the display quality to be really poor. Space is not an issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have located that, but my concern is the DVI connection to the Mini Display connection on the Mac Mini. My understanding is that they are different.

  • How to use  two monitors with my Mac mini

    Hello,
I have a Mac mini and using a 20" Samsung Monitor with it which works well. I also have my 40" LCD Samsung telly, set up next to it. Whenever i watch a DVD using my Mac i have to swap over the cables. Is there a way of getting the right cables etc and making it so i would be able to watch a dvd on the 40" and still use the 20" surfing the net etc. I had a similar set up with my old windows laptop, but cant seem to work out how do it with the mac. Both monitors have modern sockets, the 40in has HDMI/DVI IN and AGV, the 20" has AGV and HDCP/DVI IN. Many thanks.

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to use dual displays on the Mini. You may be able to find some adapter that will allow you to physically connect two displays, but they will be mirrored, not spanned.
To do what you describe would take spanning, which the Mini is not capable of doing. Unless something has changed recently,..

  • How to use one monitor with two Power Macs

I searched this forum and was unable to find an answer. Although I believe it's probably here.
Nevertheless, I have a Power Mac G5 and a rarely used Power Mac G3. I'd like to share the G5's VGA Accusync 120 CRT monitor with the G3. I know there is a way to switch the monitor between computers without pulling plugs in and out of the machines.
Does anyone have any specific switch I could buy to solve this issue. I don't care so much for picture quality for the G3. But I don't want to compromise picture quality for the G5.

You're looking for what's called a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch.
This one should do what you're looking for. I've not used it, but it does VGA switching like you want and is inexpensive.

It depends on what the monitor actually supports, the size of the monitor, & the Graphic card capabilities.

  • Can I use 4K monitor with my MacBook Pro Non-retina?

I am considering to use 4k monitor for my MacBook. I have mid-2012 15" MacBook Pro. But I'm afraid that it will not perform as good as standard hd monitor. I'm wondering if any of you have tried using 4k monitor for your MacBook. Thank you.

Won't work - at least not with 4K resolution.
Supposedly, the late 2013 retina machines with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB GDDR5 memory will run 4K resolutions - but only in Windows 8, NOT in any version of OS X, yet.
So you'll just have to buy a new Mac Pro or wait until Apple comes out with an OS that supports running 4K on a new MacBook Pro Retina and buy that.
    Sorry,

  • Can I use LCD monitor with beige G3 233 mhz desktop?

    Dear all,
I have a beige G3 desktop and want to use an LCD monitor with it.
I work mostly in OS9, but browse and email in OS X 10.3.9.
My Mas has the original video card in it, the ATI 3D Rage II.
Could I use a 19 inch LCD monitor with my Mac? Or would it have to be a 17 inch one.
I read on here that the mac treats lcd monitors just like CRT monitors.
what is the maximum resolution and monitor screen size I could use with my Mac?
    Please help.
I only have a dinky 15 inch CRT monitor and would like a bigger monitor for Photoshop and animation work.
    thank you

    Both are probably contributing factors.
I know this will open up another can or worms, but you could consider overclocking your processor; most G3s will take a speed bump up a notch or two (266 or 300 in your case). It's relatively easy to do- search the forum for more info. As an alternative, a faster G3 chip (350-400) can be had rather cheaply from eBay (~$25). There are also a few 16MB Rage 128 cards on eBay, some as cheap as $10. Just make sure you get the Mac PCI version- AGP won't work. With the new video card and a speed bump, playing videos should be greatly improved. Just don't spend too much money on the old beast.

  • Unable to use 4 monitors with GTX 970

I used to run 4 monitors with my EVGA 660Ti. I recently purchased a Msi GTX 970 4GD5T OC and now my VGA only utility monitor on the DVI-I port (with included adapter) wont display when in windows. It displays the bios on boot but once windows 7 initializes it reads "no RGB input". I must be missing something simple that I did before with my 660Ti but I can't remember. Tried it with another VGA only flat screen I had and the same results.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean by only DVI won't display or something? four ports on vga or some ports in onboard port? Did you check NVIDIA control panel 3D Settings--Configure surround, and right click screen resolution on desktop?

  • How use third monitor with W510?

My W510 (machine code 4318) is connected to a Minidock Plus Series 3 (170 watt version). I've attachd a VGA monitor (1280x1024 resolution) and a DVI monitor (1680x1050 resolution) to the minidock. I'd like to attach a third monitor. My understanding is that my W510 has no nVidia Optimus support, so the approach described here does not apply. My sense from googling around is that there are other solutions, but I'm not clear on the simplest and least expensive way to hook a third external monitor to the minidock. Can somebody please offer advice?
In case it's relevant, I use my monitors primarily for text.  I don't play games, and I rarely watch video.
    Thanks for your help.

My understanding is that the minidock I have (model 433820U) has no USB 3.0 ports, unfortunately, so it looks like I'd have to manually unhook/hook up the USB cable from the W510 to the USB 3.0 dock each time I undocked/docked the computer. That's not terribly convenient.
At this point, it's looking like a USB-to-DVI or USB-to-VGA adapter is likely to be the easiest and least expensive way to go. (Presumably I can't go DisplayPort-to-DVI/VGA, because that would conflict with one of the two monitors I've already got hooked up to the minidock.)
Are there any gotchas I should be aware of regarding the USB-to-video approach?

  • Using External monitor with DVI kills wireless connectivity

    I recently purchased a BenQ G2400WD 24" 1920x1200 monitor, for use with my May 2007 GMA 950 2.0Ghz. Macbook.
Upon receiving the monitor, I immediately plugged it in to my Macbook, using the Mini-DV to VGA adaptor I already had, for use with projectors. The monitor was good, but a bit blurry and not too sharp, due to the analog signal. So I ordered a Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor. When it arrived, the improved picture quality was immediately apparent.
However, as time went on, I noticed my wireless connectivity was getting terrible. Extremely slow Safari page load times, and upon going to Terminal and pinging my router, I would often get response times of 21000 milliseconds, or worse! I did a lot of research, on router firmware, on wireless connectivity, etc., but to no prevail. Then, on a whim, while continually pinging my router, I removed the DVI adaptor from my monitor. The ping instantly dropped from tens of full seconds to just a stable 0.4 milliseconds! Using my VGA connection resulted in no worse wireless connectivity than without it, but upon plugging in DVI and stressing the connection a bit (i.e. downloading a large file), the connection went bonkers. The pings also immediately jump from 0.4 milliseconds to a range of 1-4 milliseconds, regardless of any "stressing".
I have done numerous research, including searching both here and on other discussion forums. It appears this problem with DVI connection is fairly common, but with no resolution so far. Any help would be great!
    A few important notes:
-Both ends of both my VGA cable and my DVI cable are shielded.
-I have tried numerous channel changes of my router, to no prevail.
-While using DVI, EVERYTHING works well except the wireless. So the monitor isn't too demanding for my computer.
And I hope my thorough post didn't scare you away!

I have this same issue with the dvi and wireless disconnect. I am using a samsung 214T. I am glad to know i am not the only one seeing this, because it is kind of one of those things that is hard to believe. Anyway, I am also curious what kind of routers people have who are experiencing this issue. I am using a wrt54GL with tomato firmware.
Also, In addition to the disconnect, my picture quality on my monitor gradually degrades over time...starting with what looks like snow flecks. After waking from screen saver, sometimes it is full static. Turning off and turning back on the monitor clears the static away.
I can use another samsung 19in monitor with dvi without any problems.

  • Using cinema monitor with top closed

A MBP C2D is driving a 30 inch Apple HD cinema monitor with the top closed.
USB KB and mouse connected to the MBP. OS 10.4.9.
Can use the power button on the display to switch from sleep (MBP sleep light pulses) to normal operation (sleep light steady on at medium). Sleep light behavior is not discussed in the MBP User Guide when using these conditions.
Can see no indication the MBP display is on.
So is this all normal behavior? And the best way to undertake daily operation when want only the 30 inch monitor as my display.
    ?

Personally, I would leave the screen lid cracked open a bit for cooling purposes. Air is drawn in through the keyboard to aid in cooling.

Yes, but not on a laptpo, since you need a third video card and port.
On a desktop like the Mac Pro, you can use the first video card to run two monitors, and install a second video card for the third monitor.
Although, I can't see using more than two monitors....
