Using regular Airport in a similar manner of Airport Express for xbox live
This may seem like a weird question to ask, but I am trying to find a way around spending $100 on the Xbox360 wireless adapter.
To my understanding, if I were to buy an Airport Express (in addition to my Airport Extreme), I could plug it into the power outlet, then plug an ethernet cable from it into my xbox360. Since I have an Airport Extreme, I could send the signal to the Express and via ethernet cable, "wirelessly" connect my 360.
Now, I don't have an Express. I have my Extreme, and my old regular Airport. Is there any way to use my older airport to semi-wirelessly power my 360's internet? For example, plug it in right next to my 360 and use the ethernet out to go into the 360.

Yes, this is correct. The AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) can be configured into a Wireless Distribution System (WDS) to provide wired access for the Xbox 360.
Now, I don't have an Express. I have my Extreme, and my old regular Airport. Is there any way to use my older airport to semi-wirelessly power my 360's internet? For example, plug it in right next to my 360 and use the ethernet out to go into the 360.
The older Dual-Ethernet (Snow) or Graphite base stations do not support WDS. If you have the Snow, you can connect it to your AEBS via Ethernet, and then, connect the Xbox 360 to its LAN port.

Airport Express as wifi card for Xbox Live, then connect to Extreme network
My son just got xbox Live and we're trying to use Airport Express as wifi card for xbox (connected to xbox via ethernet). We use Airport Extreme as router for the house.
We're having trouble setting up Xbox Live, keep getting stuck at getting the xbox to communicate/access the web. Error reads "can't obtain IP address from router... make sure DHCP is enabled and has a large enough address range for all devices on network.. also make sure MAC filtering allows your console's MAC address or is disabled... "
We dont' know what else to do. I'm at wit's end before giving Gates $100... Anyone know how to get connected?
Thank you!You can also perform a simple test to verify if you have an internet connection at the ethernet port on the AirPort Express.
Move a laptop near the Express, turn off the wireless on the laptop, and connect to the Express using an ethernet cable. See if you can open your browser and get a good solid internet connection.
If you can, the Express is setup correctly and you know that you have an internet connection reaching all the way to the Xbox.
If you can't then there is a configuration error somewhere and it will need to be identified and corrected. -
Time Capsule, Airport Express and Xbox Live
Recently I went out and bought a Time Capsule 1TB hoping to extend my wireless network. I knew that Apple products wouldn't usually help extend a DLINK network so it came as no surprise when I could not extend my DLINK network. My solution was to buy a new Airport Express, disable the wifi on the DLINK router and extend the Airport Expresses network via the Time Capsule.
The current situation is: DLINK <-> Ethernet <-> Airport Express Wireless Time Capsule <-> Ethernet <-> Xbox360
The issue is the Time Capsule as far as I can see. For apparently no reason it will change from a solid green status light to a flashing amber status light. Signing my Xbox into Xbox Live seems to be a trigger, but the Time Capsule goes amber even when the Xbox isnt on at all. When it does change to flashing amber I am no longer able to detect it within Airport Utility and as such am unable to diagnose the issue. Any help would be appreciated.Here it works fine. I have a Time Capsule connected to my ADSL modem. I had to buy an all new Airport Express 802.11n, though, because my old AE could not extend my network.
On an all 802.11n setup you just check the "Allow this network to be extended" on the master (Time Capsule), and choose "Extend a wireless network" on the remotes.
The X-Box is connected with an Ethernet cable to the Airport Express, and connection to X-Box Live works fine.

Hook my Airport Express to my Extreme for Xbox Live?
I have an Airport Extreme router that feeds the WiFi through my house. I also have an Airport Express that is in my living room which connects to my stereo to wirelessly stream my iTunes.
I'd also like to connect the wire from my Xbox Live to the Airport Express to get it online. Is this possible, and if so, how do I do it?Try the following:
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Wireless tab below the icons
Make sure there is a check mark next to "Enable Ethernet Clients"
Click Update to save your changes
Test first with a laptop by turning off the wireless on the laptop and connecting via ethernet. Open your browser and you should have an internet connection. Try another ethernet cable if you don't have a good connection.
If still no luck, power down the entire network.Start the modem first, then the device connected to the modem and so one at time until all devices are powered up.
Everything above assumes that you have the Express set to "join a wireless network" in the normal AirTunes configuration.

You can check by going into Settings- sounds - and see if your able to do so. I believe you will also need to have the lasted IOS version.

Can I use a D-Link DIR-505 as a repeater just for xbox 360?
Most people who have a Time Capsule and xbox 360 here, know the woes of trying to get them to play nice together. I've flat out given up and wired it. But I really would like to have it wireless.
Has anyone tried to use this D-Link DIR-505 as a repeater and/or bridge? Or for that matter, any other device? The added bonus is that the signal is boosted. I originally wanted to get an Airport Express to do this same thing, but my guess is that the internals of the AExpress and the TC are the same and I'll just end up with the same problem.
If someone can confirm that the AExpress works with the Xbox 360, I would rather get that. I've read that Apple routers get along best with other Apple products and not as great with non-Apple products.
Any advice would be great!
thanks.You would be better off buying a new router.. eg WNDR3800 netgear.. which is fully compatible with xbox.. better wireless than the TC.. has excellent third party firmware, openwrt, gargoyle, dd-wrt.
Bridge your TC and use it for backups. -

I am thinking of purchasing either an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station. I have an Xbox 360 with the USB wireless adapter. Can someone with experience tell me if the Xbox Wireless Adapter will work with either router? I have researched that it will only work if security is disabled. Has this been fixed? Please help.
I would also like to know. On the Express, would my Comcast modem have to remain plugged into the single ethernet port or not?
Thanks...In the past I had difficulties connecting xbox 360 to extreme N so my solution was to connect an express by ethernet to the extreme N and set the express to create its own wireless network. That worked fine. Security was set to WPA2.
A month ago since I updated the firmware on the extreme to 731 and airport utility to 531 I can connect xbox360 wireless to the extreme so I discarded the express.
get the extreme N its more flexible than the express. Comcast modem to wan of extreme and you still have three lan ports to connect other devices plus a usb port. -
How do I change my NAT from "strict" so I can properly use Xbox LIVE?
I am able to connect to Xbox LIVE, but the Xbox (360) reports my NAT as "strict", which means I don't have a good connection and can't even participate in some things like tournaments on Project Gotham Racing 3.
I've spent hours researching this on the net. No luck yet, but here's what I've tried so far:
One post (http://forums.xbox.com/8109385/PrintPost.aspx) said there are three ways to fix my problem: (1) Use UPnp (universal plug 'n' play, the equivalent of which on the Airport Express seems to be NAT Port Mapping Protocol), (2) Set up a DMZ (demilitarized zone, which is called a Default Host by the Airport Express), and (3) Port Mapping.
First, turning on NAT Port Mapping Protocol doesn't have an effect on my Xbox-reported NAT rating of "strict".
Second, I tried setting up a Default Host at 10.0.1.253 then assigning my Xbox an IP of 10.0.1.253. I assigned this IP only through the Xbox's network settings. It seems like I was supposed to assign the IP to the Xbox using the Airport Admin Utility, but if there's a way of doing so, I don't see it. Also within the Xbox's network settings, I set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and the gateway to 10.0.1.1 (my Airport Expres). When I tested the connection to Xbox LIVE, I failed at the DNS stage. So I manually set the DNS info to the primary and secondary DNS specified by my ISP (and shown in the Internet tab of Airport Admin Utility). I retested my connection to Xbox LIVE. Now I passed the DNS test but failed the next test, called MTU. I looked up how to set the MTU and did so according to these instructions from the Apple Support pages: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303192. I tried MTU values of 1400, 1500, 1362 (recommended minimum specified on Xbox), and 3000 but was unable to pass the MTU test on the Xbox.
I tried port mapping as explained on the Microsoft Xbox forums (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874) and further explained here: http://www.jakeludington.com/xbox/20060103xbox_live_connectionproblems.html. I tried to do this with the Port Mapping tab in Airport Admin Utility, but I wasn't able to specify all of the information given in that last link, so I don't know if I did it right.
Hours of work and no success, but this ought to be possible, right? Help?

As you already know, XBox Live requires three ports to communicate: UDP 88, UDP 3074, & TCP 3074. The AirPort Express Base Station doesn't distinguish between UDP & TCP for port mapping, so you will only need to map one port for the UDP/TCP 3074 values.
Try the following...
Port Mapping tab
- Click "Add"
- Public Port: 88
- Private Address: 10.0.1.253
- Private Port: 88
- Click "Ok"
- Click "Add"
- Public Port: 3074
- Private Address: 10.0.1.253
- Private Port: 3074
- Click "Ok" -
Okay folks, I need your help out there.
So the nerdy side of me went and picked up the XBOX ONE on release day. Its awesome by the way, BUT..... I cant seem to connect to most xbox live games and absolutely ZERO parties. At first I just thought it was something to do with the xbox itself and would eventually fix itself, but i was wrong. After looking into it on microsoft, i found out that it had to do with my NAT settings on the airport itself. I guess apple and xbox are not compatiable for xbox live and it makes it difficult to have an open NAT setting and is a huge PAIN.
I was able to pinpoint one that the airport time capsule was blocking the IPV6 something or another. Anyways, I unblocked that, and reset the modem and time capsule and jumped on the xbox and now have open NAT settings but still cant connect to multi-player.
Upon further searching, i was told to uncheck the UPNP on my time capsule as well, but have no idea how to find that.
I know it seems confusing, but thats the best i can describe it.
tthanks allBe a long long time before I see an Xbox One.. but whoever told you to uncheck the upnp in the TC.. tell them their dreamin' .. upnp is not support by Apple in any computer or router, never has been.. Apple deliberately wrote their own version called NAT-PMP to do the same thing.. dynamically open ports at the request of an application or client computer.
So there is nothing like that to uncheck.. and as a matter of interest.. there no box to check or uncheck for NAT-PMP either.. since apple do not believe in end user adjustment of settings.. they simply do not exist.
You will have to manually forward all ports required by the Xbox via the TC. For multi-player games you probably need to open more ports than the standard to allow just xbox live. You will need to check the ports required and open them.
OR
Buy a standard vista UPNP compatible router.. and use that.. and simply put the TC in bridge in the network.
I have not seen posts yet about xbox one.. but there are plenty about xbox and ps3 and the fact that Apple really doesn't give a hoot about games consoles.

Ok, a quick brief, i have the following hardware
-Bt Homehub
-Airport Express
-D-Link router (not in use, not a wireless either)
-Xbox 360
-iBook g4
-Belkin 54g Wireless Network Adapter
ok excuse my ignorance as i am not the biggest techie in the world.
i am looking to connect my xbox360 to the internet for xbox live, not a problem if i can keep it next to my Homehub (i can connect via ethernet)
The problem i have is, my xbox is to be moved into my bedroom, it is not feasable to trail ethernet cable through the house.
I have a wireless network running through the BT Homehub, currently the Airport Express is laying dormant.
I will have my iBook next to my xbox360 on my desk.
Does anyone have any idea's if at all possible that i can connect my xbox360 using my current hardware to my wireless network.

I look forward to any criticism's, suggestions etc.Your issue was double NAT.. and the lack of upnp in the airport time capsule products to open ports to those devices. With the TC in bridge you now have a single router the BT home hub in your case, which is fully upnp aware. This is so important when trying to run multiple game consoles as you cannot manually port forward in that situation.
Let me add, with some of the latest games like black ops or mw3 you may still have issues. It depends which home hub you have as there are several with latest ones now sourced from manufacturers other than Thomson. All the Thomson based devices have issues with full CONE nat and forwarding of udp packets. There are special cone bind commands.

Port forwarding is a plague on the internet and the sooner we move to ipv6 the better although I have no doubt the process will be extremely painful. NAT is a kludge that results in all sorts of errors and issues. -

Unfortunately, the AirPorts are not listed as Xbox Live-compatible routers ... so there is no guarantee doing this will get Open NAT status for Xbox Live!
The following web blog does a great job explaining the NAT issues with Xbox Live! Basically what it comes down to is that although you can get an Internet connection for the Xbox with the AirPorts, you may not get the necessary NAT setting (Moderate or Open) for the Xbox Live! on-line game that you want to play. As such, you basically have two options: 1) Create a DMZ (Apple calls this a Default Host) for the XBox or 2) Configure the AirPort for Port mapping to open the required ports to allow Xbox Live! access ... or 3) Use a compatible router.
Option 1 - Create a DMZ
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > NAT
Enable default host at: <Enter the IP Address for the XBox>
Option 2 - Configure Port Mapping
The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
UDP 88
UDP 3074
TCP 3074
To setup port mapping on an 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn), either connect to the AEBSn's wireless network or temporarily connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to one of the LAN port of the AEBSn, and then use the AirPort Utility, in Manual Setup, to make these settings:
1. Reserve a DHCP-provided IP address for the Xbox 360.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > DHCP tab
Click the "+" (Add) button to enter DHCP Reservations.
Description: <enter the desired description of the host device>
Reserve address by: MAC Address
Click Continue.
MAC Address: <Enter the MAC hardware address of the Xbox or the MAC address of the wireless depending on how you connect the XBox to the network.>
IPv4 Address: <enter the desired Private IP address>
Click Done.
2. Setup Port Mapping on the AEBSn.
AirPort Utility > Select the AEBSn > Manual Setup > Internet > NAT > Configure Port Mappings
Click the "+" (Add) button

Using regular expressions for validating time fields
Similar to my problem with converting a big chunk of validation into smaller chunks of functions I am trying to use Regular Expressions to handle the validation of many, many time fields in a flexible working time sheet.
I have a set of FormCalc scripts to calculate the various values for days, hours and the gain/loss of hours over a four week period. For these scripts to work the time format must be in HH:MM.
Accessibility guidelines nix any use of message box pop ups so I wanted to get around this by having a hidden/visible field with warning text but can't get it to work.
So far I have:

If I am going to use regular expressions to do validation I find it easier to make them text fields and ignore the time patterns (formattedValue). Something like this works (as far as my very brief testing goes) for 24 hour time where time format is HH:MM.
