Using remote with I tunes

Hi. I had an iMac with a remote control(the little white one with black tip) that when i pressed PLAY(not menu) it played my music, EVEN WHEN ITUNES WAS CLOSED. I now have a diff. iMac that requiers iTunes to be open to play music. Is there any way to make my remote play music even when iTunes is closed? Like in a game?
Before i was playing Diablo2 and pressed PLAY on the remote and my music started to play. Now my mac makes me either turn on iTunes or press MENU. It was very convinient before. Can some one tell me how to turn the option on?

Ayuda, I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). It's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread, It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.

Can i use remote with different computers? It works fine on mine but if i try to use it with another computer in the house it doesn't show up in itunes.

If you want to connect and use an iPod (other than a shuffle) on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
Note: When changing from automatic to manual, check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. "Don't" uncheck Sync Music in the Music tab, it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting, if you uncheck it without setting the iPod to manual first you'll erase all the songs from your iPod
Something else to be aware of when using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on your desktop or check this link: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Using REMOTE with a mac

    from the apple website:
    Using Keynote Remote with Bluetooth
When a Wi-Fi connection is unavailable you can use Keynote Remote with Bluetooth to control your Keynote slideshow from one iOS device to another (iPad, iPhone, iPod touch). However, slides may take longer to appear on Keynote Remote when connected via Bluetooth. You cannot use Keynote Remote via Bluetooth with a Mac.
really???........ what is the point? Can i use it with a PC? who's million-dollar idea was this?

I'm not sure that Tuttle's answer is quite the answer you're looking for. Sounds like you sometimes want the remote to control the iPhone in the dock, while other times you want it to control the MBP. If that's correct, there's really only one decent option: two remotes. Both devices should have come with a remote, so you should already have two. You can [pair one with the computer|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1619] and [pair the other with the dock|http://support.apple.com/kb/TA23708?viewlocale=en_US]. You'll need to label the remotes somehow so you can tell which is which.
Alternately, of course, you could just change the pairing every time you want to switch devices, but that seems like a bit of a pain to me.

  • Populating a Combobox using Remoting with AMF and PHP

    Hello all
I am using Zend framework and Flex 3.4 to create a webapp. I am stuck at how to populate a combobox dynamically using the service I created in PHP.
In some of examples I saw that result of database query was being converted into XML and then sent to Flex. This seems a little too time-consuming if I have to do it every time. I saw some examples in Adobe Docs about Remoting with AMF and PHP. That seems like a better approach although how it would be applicable here is beyond me right now.
Can somebody guide me in correct direction?
    Thanks and Regards
    Shivik

Try this: http://code.google.com/p/as3flexdb/ is very easy to use and it
    will help.
All you need to populate a combo is:
    <mx:ComboBox dataProvider="{query.Records} /

  • Using Remote with other Applications

Okay, so I want to use my Apple remote to control VLC (a media player) so I can use it whenever without having to get up and pause, skip forward, or skip backward with my keyboard. So anyway...I downloaded this program that looked very promising
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23518
But it doesn't seem to let me add new applications which is a real bummer. Has anyone figured out a way to do this, or something similar to customize the uses of the Apple remote? Any help is greatly appreciated

I think you may want this,http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/productivity_tools/mira.html it cost money for the full version but the demo works just fine(it seems to last forever).

    yes.
with the drive connected to the TC and mounted on your desktop, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) to the external.
next, launch iTunes while pressing option, click on +choose library+ when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
this setup requires that the external is mounted before you launch iTunes. you can have the drive mount automatically at startup by adding the drive to your login items via system preferences > accounts > login items.
if you are comfortable with AppleScript, you could edit this script to suit your need.
    try
mount volume "afp://<devicename>.local/<volumename>" as user name "<accountname>" with password "<accountpassword>"
    end try
this script just places the drive's icon on the desktop.
save it as an application and add that to your login items.
credit for the script goes to Tesserax.

  • Using IPOD with stereo tuner

I've been using my IPOD with my stereo system through a basic tuner. When I recently had to move the system, and re-hooked up things, my IPOD no longer comes out of both speakers, even though the FM-AM DOES. I tried a different cable from the IPOD to the tuner, but it still doesn't work. Am I nuts that it once did come out of both speakers? What should I do? I KNOW it worked before! I also tried it into various jacks (i.e. CD, phono, t.v. etc.) and it's the same on all of them; just 1 speaker.
    Thanks! Ellie

    ek,
You probably would be better off posting in the iPod Discussion.
Gently wiggle the cable plug at the iPod. Any change?
Try a different pair of inputs on your receiver. Work any better?
Reverse the left and right plugs on the tuner input - does the dead channel switch sides?
If you plug some earphones into your iPod do both earpieces have sound?
Play same songs directly from iTunes. Both sides working on computer speakers?

  • Use remote with Apple TV and a second computer but not third

I can't seem to figure this one out. I have an imac and a macbook pro, the imac connected to the extreme modem and my itunes library is accessible from the apple tv remote control. When I use the remote for the apple tv, Front Row on the macbook pro opens up and when I use the up or down buttons on the remote, Front Row responds. Somehow the remote is sending a signal to the macbook pro/Front Row. How can I stop this from happening? Any ideas are welcome..
    GH

The macbook pro is responding to the tv remote. You can fix this by disabling the infrared remote receiver on the MBpro.
Go to System Preferences > Security > General Tab > Click the padlock and supply the admin password > Check "Disable remote control infrared receiver.

  • How to set up my elderly parent with Mac so that I can use remote access to help her?

I want to set my elderly mother up with a new Mac mini so that I can use remote access to show her how use email, browse the internet, share photos.  (She lives in KY, I live in OR)
She has had an iPhone and an iPad for about 6 months and she can barely use them without becoming frustrated.   I want to be able to see her screen with her and show her how to do things.
My plan is to set her up with a Mac mini and I'll use my MacBookAir to remote into her system.  I'm buying the mini to configure and then I'll mail it to her.
My question is whether to try to use Back to My Mac or Teamviewer for remote access
I have broadband with comcast and she has broadband with Access Cable.  Each have their company modem/routers--neither of us have Airport Express.
I have my own iCloud account and she has her own.   If I use Back to My Mac, it seems that I would need to set up a separate account on my Mac that would sync to her iCloud account.
Teamviewer seems easier because I don't have to use a separate account.   Any advice?   Anything that I'm not thinking about?

As Linc says, you can establish a Screen Sharing session via iMessage and Facetime.  The advantage of these 2 approaches is that once your Mom gets used to using them, she will be more comfortable using them to communicate with you.  I've talked to my Mom via iChat (aka iMessage) more since she learned to use them, then in all the years before that (including when I was a child ).  And just being able to see your Mom via Facetime can be useful when you want to gage how she is doing.
However, if you are any distance from your Mom, they you want backup methods incase something goes wrong.
So beside iMessage/Facetime, the next best would be Back-to-My-Mac via iCloud, however, you will want to establish her Mac as using your account so that you have the right to take control remotely.
An alternative that does not mix up your iCloud acounts would be to use TeamViewer.com (which has an unattended mode so you can do off-hour maintenance when your Mom is not around; or check up on her to find out if she is dating - Turns out if I had been paying attention, I would not have been blind-sided by my Mom getting Married again last Summer - she is in her 80's! ).
LogMeIn.com, as dwb says, can be used the same was as TeamViewer.com
Both LogMeIn.com and TeamViewer.com are very good at making it easy to get through the home router and if you are having any problems connecting using other Methods, TeamViewer.com or LogMeIn.com will most likely not have any issues.
Back-to-My-Mac allows screen sharing and file sharing so you can transfer files as well as control the screen.
Screen Sharing via Messages allows cooperative file transfer. That is to say, you can try pushing a file to your Mom, but she has to accept each transfer.
TeamViewer.com has an unattended file transfer mode.
LogMeIn.com requires the paid version to transfer files.  However, there are other ways to transfer files, such as downloading them from the original source on your Mom's system while using screen sharing, using Dropbox (or similar), emailing them, etc...
Of course if you are really network savvy, you can roll your own via ssh tunnels, port forwarding routers, getting dynamic DNS names, transferring files via scp, or tunneling AFP file sharing, tunneling your screen sharing sessions.  Lots of fun and excitement playing with terminal commands

    Hi ,
I have a macbook connected to LCD TV with HDMI connection .
Is there a way to use Apple remote with display closed .
examples of using apple remote with display closed would be
    (1) waking the macbook with apple remote
    (2) putting the macbook to sleep with apple remote
    (3) Shutting down the macbook with apple remote
    (4) accessing front row (using LCD TV as Display )
while doing this should I connect the macbook to power source.
please point me to any documentation / solutions available .
I don't have any external keyboard or mouse connected to macbook . I just want to use Apple remote to do the above functions .

    Hi suresh,
    as mentioned here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86286
    and
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300562
you must have to have a keyboard or mouse to trigger the macbook wake up from sleep when you close the lid.
usb mouse is not that expensive and you can start with that.
    Good Luck

Have you logged in and reviewed your account and entered payment details ? Unless the instructions on this page are followed when creating an account : Create an iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store account without a credit card or other payment method - Apple Suppor…
then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
You could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you review your account without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054#24303054
If not then you will either have to enter card details (you should be able to remove them after entering them), or create a new account (using the instructions on the above link).

  • How can I use apple remote with Mountain Lion? Any Front Row alternative?

    Hi All,
I recently upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion.
All great except for my Apple Remote control.
Before, I could effectively control my iMac media with Apple Remote by using Front Row (music, photos, videos, good integration with iTunes and iPhoto).
Now, as I understand, Front Row is expired.
So, my Apple remote still works but with very limited options (just music, forward, backward and volume), and it's a real pity.
Any of you Guys know how to restore Front Row?
Otherwise maybe suggest an alternative (sth similar, should allow iMac media control by Apple Remote)?
So far I tried to restore all Front Row files by a Time Capsule Snow Leopard backup (as indicatred on some other Communities).
To restore was easy, but then, no way to launch it.
    Any advice will help!
    Thanks in advance/all the best.
    Marco

Thanks Klaus1 for your prompt answer, although I went again through a dated discussion.
I also got the feeling that somehow they want to push Apple TV..
But, respectfully speaking towards our Friends at Apple, is it fair to promise what you don't deliver?
I have choosen apple because I percive it's different.
    At currently published link: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC377Z/A/apple-remote
    they do promote the following:
    Apple Remote with Mac
The Apple Remote gives you total command of your music, photos, videos and DVDs from anywhere in the room. It works with Front Row - a menu-based, full-screen interface - to make accessing the digital content on your Mac as simple as navigating your iPod. When you press the Menu button, your desktop fades and the sleek, Front Row interface takes its place, to give you control over your music in iTunes, your photos in iPhoto, the videos in your Videos folder and your DVDs. Turn up the volume. Shuffle. Skip to the next chapter on your DVD. Play a slide show, a home video that you made in iMovie, even a film trailer.
Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in infrared (IR) receiver. Not compatible with MacBook Pro with Retina display.
Cost for this is 15£ (19€).
Now, I have iMac and Mac Book Pro (no retina display) both with Mountain Lion installed, and I understand both of them are not compatible with Front Row.
Actually I adore apple tv and I got 2 at home nicely working on 2 different TVs.
So I accomplished twice their wish of selling this product to me.
Why shall they deceive me (and many others, as I read) by killing a still promised service?
Should I read all forums before buying a trusted-brand-product like apple, to ensure that id does what declared?
Don't get me wrong, I'm an enthusiast user of the whole apple family, since many years, and still I am.
Just politely complaining for this decision, which creates to Many an easy avoidable disservice.
    Cheers
    Marco
